낭종성 부갑상선 선종과 심한 골병변을 동반한 부갑상선 기능항진증은 매우 드문 질환으로서, 저자들은 양측 고관절의 통증을 초기 주소로 내원한 환자에서 고칼슘혈증과 부갑상선 호르몬 증가, 골병변의 방사선적 소견을 통해 부갑상선 기능항진증을 진단하고, 경부 초음파와 컴퓨터 단층 촬영, 부갑상선 스캔검사 및 수술중 부갑상선 낭종액 검사 등을 통해 기능성 부갑상선 낭종의 한 종류인 낭종성 부갑상선 선종을 진단하고 수술적 제거를 통하여 정상화된 1예를 경험하였다. A cystic parathyroid adenoma is rare. A case of primary hyperparathyroidism, with the cystic formation of a parathyroid adenoma and a severe bony lesion, is reported. A 52-year-old male was admitted due to pain in both hips and for evaluation of hypercalcemia. The plasma level of the intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) was elevated to 1424 pg/mL. Ultrasonography and the computed tomography revealed a parathyroid cyst on the left thyroid lower pole. Parathyroid scintigraphy detected a parathyroid adenoma. A radiograph showed a subperiosteal bone resorption on the phalanges, and a brown tumor (osteitis fibrosa cystica) on the femur shaft was noted. A surgical excision of the parathyroid adenoma was performed. The PTH level in the cystic fluid was increased. A histological examination confirmed a cystic parathyroid adenoma. The PTH level was normalized after the operation (J Kor SOC Endocrinol 18:214-220, 2003).

This paper presents a new adaptive friction compensation technique for stabilized platform of a first order plant with nonlinear friction. Nonlinear friction torque is a major source of tracking and stabilization error in precision pointing servo systems. The proposed compensator is composed of nonlinear feedback controller and reference model of a plant without torque friction. Gains of friction compensator are adaptively adjusted to variation of the friction torque of plant. Simulation result shows that the proposed compensator can significantly reduce the nonlinear factors.

This study is from August lst. of 1987 to Nat 25th. 1988. The subjects of study consists of students in general who are in attendance at university and all samples are selected at random. The total number of subjects counts to 282(male : 122, female : 160) and the researcher measures and analyses the subjects' physique, physical strength, the test of dominance eye, the functional tests of hand, foot, body and eye. The results as follows: 1. Physical growth and development Mean values of body height are 172.86±1.37㎝ for male and 160.99±1.33㎝ for female and superior to standard values of Korean. Mean values of body weight are 65.86±1.50㎏ for male and 52.54±0.81㎏ for female, and the mean values of chest girth are 94.93±1.50㎏ for male and 52.54±0.81㎏ for female, and the mean values of chest girth are 94.93±2.04㎝ for male and 83.83±0.91㎝ for female. Mean values of sitting height are 93.24±1.19㎝ for male and 85.83±0.71㎝ for female. 2. Physical fitness Mean values of grip strength are 46.77±6.41 for right and 45.18±0.91 for left side in male and 28.26±1.78 for right and 30.12±2.46 for left in female. Mean values of arm strength are 26.08±1.99 for right and 28.41±2.34 for left in male and 19.08±0.75 for right and 20.54±0.87 for left in female. Mean values of leg strength are 43.37±1.58 for right and 47.50±5.26 for left in male and 26.73±1.37 for right and 28.84±1.60 for left in female. 3. Functional rate of foot, trunk, eye and hand As considered according to its function, the rates of right foot, left foot, both of feet in both of male and female, the total rates are each of 39.1%, 46.1%, 5.1% for male and 53.0%, 32.1%, 4.3% for female. The rates of right eye, left eye, both of eyes in both of male and female, the total rates are each of 53.3%, 20.8% 22.7% for male and 51.5%, 23.95%, 15.2% for female. The rates of right eye, left eye, both of eyes in both of male and female, the total rates are each of 84.5%,10.4%, 2.2% for male and 83.3%, 11.9%, 2.0% for female. 4. Tests of dominance eye As considered according to tests of dominance eye, the results of right eye, left eye in both of male and female, the results are each, 30.3% for male and 57.5%, 42.5% for female.

The prevalence of PPNG among pretreated gonorrhea cases isolated at the STD clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul has been studied and reported annually since 1981. In 1991, 123 strains of N.gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 58(47.1%) were PPNG. In 1992, 98 starains of N.gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 51(52.0%) were PPNG. In all, 109(49.3%) strains were found to be PPNG among 221 strains isolated between 1991-1992. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul showed increased tendency till 1989, thereafter, it has been stationary or slightly decreasing.

The distribution and localization of somatostatin(SOM), neuropeptide Y(NPY), vasopressin(VP), and oxytocin(OT) were studied with a immunohistochemical technique in the canine hypothalamus. The SOM-immunoreactive perikarya were concentrated in the anterior periventricular and the arcuate nuclei. Immunoreactive terminals were observed in the arcuate, the ventromedial hypothalamic, the suprachismatic nuclei and the external layer of the median emmence. A great number of NPY-immunoreactive cell bodies were found in the arcuate nucleus and NPY fibers were located throughout the hypothalamus with the highest concentration especially in the paraventricular (PVN) and the acuate nuclei. Moderately or densely stained fibers were also observed in the median eminence, the suprachiasmatic. the periventricular, the ventromedial hypothalamic, the dorsomedial hypothalamic and the medial preoptic nuclei, and the stria terminalis. Both VP-and OT-containing perikarya were found mainly in the PVN and supraoptic nucleus(SON). but a few were seen in the perifornical area, the lateral hypothalamus, the dorsal hypothalamic and the periventricular nucleus. The fibers originated from the PVN were projected to the SON via ventral or dorsal area of the fornix.

Many of the growth-promoting properties of growth hormone(GH) are mediated by insulin-like growth factor-I(IGF-I), a highly conserved circulating 70-amino acid peptide. Recent studies have shown that multiple mechanisms influence IGF-I gene expression, including transcription from two promoters, alternative RNA splicing, and variable polyadenylation. In thyroid tissue, thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) and IGF-I are the most possible candidates for follicular cell proliferation and hypertrophy. Actually IGF-I had autocrine and paracrine effect for tissue growing. We prepared thyroid tumor tissue mRNAs using single step method for detecting IGF-I levels according to different tissues, i.e., thyroid adenoma or papillary thyroid carcinoma. We used Northern blot analysis for IGF-I mRNA and RNase protection assay (RPA) for IGF-I transcription start sites. For Northern blot, we used whole human IGF-I cDNA as a DNA probe and for RPA, we used IGF-I exon 1 containing noncoding promoter 1 as a riboprobe. We got good RNA bands from Northern blot analysis around 1 kb (IGF-IA) and 7.5 kb (IGF-IB) region. To clarify the amount of both IGF-IA and IB mRNAs, we measured autoradiographied signal of IGF-I mRNAs bands using densitometer. In IGF-IA signals, there's no change among liver and thyroid tissues, but in case of IGF-IB mRNA bands, the signal was markedly increased in thyroid carcinoma tissues than that of normal thyroid tissue (85% vs 14%). In the study of RPA, all thyroid tissues used the same transcription start sites as those of liver's. We concluded that that this different regulation of IGF-I mRNA was originated from tissue specificity. That meant some tissue specific transcription factor/s were related to tissue IGF-I expression.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

Chitin is exists in the exoskeleton of crustaceans and chitosan can be obtained by deacetylation of chitin. As chitosan has a chelating characteristics, it was used radiostrontium chelator in the rats and mice. It also can be used as a healthy food and medicine. The purpose of the prsent study is to investigate the chitosan distribution and excretory route of 14C-chitosan in the animal body. 14C-chitosan was prepared and intravenously administered to the vein of mice and also intraorally ingested. The body distribution of chitosan was studied by autoradiography and the urinary excretion was counted. C-14 label chitosan was showed high distribution in the liver. And 10~20% of chitosan was excreted to the urine through kidney within few days. Chitosan was gathered into gromerulus in kidney and excreted from three hours. It was concluded that chitosan has no target organs and liver distribution is a sort of only passing route for the urinary excretion by way of kidney.
