The prevalence of PPNG among pretreated gonorrhea cases isolated at the STD clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul has been studied and reported annually since 1981. In 1991, 123 strains of N.gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 58(47.1%) were PPNG. In 1992, 98 starains of N.gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 51(52.0%) were PPNG. In all, 109(49.3%) strains were found to be PPNG among 221 strains isolated between 1991-1992. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul showed increased tendency till 1989, thereafter, it has been stationary or slightly decreasing.

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

It has been rapidly given to the importance of the embodiment of the efficient computer systems in university education. Since the recent trend of the adoption of the openess policy in university education systems significantly affects on the realization of the embodiment of the efficient computer systems which is very essential to promote the international competition in many areas of university education. So it is greatly needed that our Soonchunhyang university must have the following principles for the embodiment of the efficient computer systems. (1) It is required that the appropriate computer education and the good quality of research environment must be given. (2) The establishment of the synthetic computer network system for efficient the university administrations is needed. (3) It is needed to establish the computer system for the consideration of the future performance. (4) It is also needed to improve the organization and the administration systems of the university computer center. (5) It is required on the establishment of the local area network(LAN) systems in the Soonchunhyang university, and the LAN must be connected to other outer national and international computer systems. And we propose the following requirement for the establishment of the convienent computer systems in our university and we have been greatly though about the significant change of the environment in university computer system. [1] The subject of the basic computer must become as the required subject for the all students in the curriulum. [2] The new computer systems both in hardware and software must be introduced. [3] It is needed to the change of the present name of the university computer center into the university information and computer center. And its organizations must be furthur developed [4] The training center for the university emploee is also needed. [5] The establishment of the database systems for the automtion of the university administation is needed. [6] It is strongly required on the establishment of the local area network system in the Soonchunhang university to connect the Bitnet and the Internet through the Hankook communication. [7] The computerization for the central library is needed. The indepent local area network system for the library is also needed to establish the own database system. Finally we hope that the LAN will be connected to the national wide library computer system.

알코올 의존 환자의 Tryptophan Hydroxylase 유전자 다형성

연구목적 : 알코올 의존 환자에서 세로토닌 합성 조절 효소인 tryptophan hydroxylase(TPH) 유전자 다형성 빈도를 정상 대조군과 비교함으로써 알코올 의존의 유전적 요인을 추적하고, 임상변인과 이 유전자 다형성과의 관련성을 알아보고자 하였다. 방 법 : DSM-IV진단기준에 부합되는 알코올 의존 환자 100명과 정상 대조군 100명을 대상으로 TPH유전자 다형성을 증합효소 연쇄반응과 제한효소 처리법을 이용하여 동정하였다. 여기서 분리된 대립 유전자와 유전자형에 따른 빈도의 차이를 서로 비교하였으며, 알코올 의존 환자군의 여러 임상 변인에 따른 차이를 비교하였다. 결 과 : 알코올 의존 환자군과 대조군 간에 TPH의 A216C 유전자형 및 대립유전자 빈도에서의 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 관찰되지 않았으나, 조기 발병한 환자의 경우는 유전자형의 빈도가 AA,AC,CC형이 0.57, 0.39, 0.04, 후기 발병한 환자의 경우 0.34, 0.45, -.21로, 조기 발병한 환자군에서 대조군과 비교하여 통계적으로 유의하게 A 대립 유전자의 빈도가 높은 것이 관찰되었다.(by chi-square test, p<0.05). 결 론 : 이는 조기 발병형 알코올 의존의 경우 TPH유전자 다형성과 관련이 있으며, 일부 알코올 의존 환자에서 유전적으로 세로토닌계의 이상이 있다는 사실을 시사한다. Objectives : This study was performed to explore the association of tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) gene with diagnosis of alcohol dependence and/or clinical characteristics such as age of onset, family history, and severity of symptoms in Korean alcoholics. Methods : The genotype and allele frequencies of TPH in 100 male hospitalized patients who met DSM-IV criteria for alcohol dependence were investigated using polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length plymorphism and were compared with 100 age-matched healthy male control subjects. And the associations between gene polymorphisms and clinical characteristics in alcoholic patients were explored. Results : The distributions of TPH genotype and allele in alcohol dependent patients were not different from control subjects. However, the frequencies of TPH genotype in early-onset alcoholic patients, which were 0.57, 0.39, and 0.04(AA, AC and CC, respectively), were significantly different from those of late-onset alcoholics(0.34, 0.45, and 0.21, respectively). "A" allele was found more frequent in early-onset alcoholics. Conclusion : The result suggests that TPH gene polymorphism is associated with early-onset alcioholic patients possibly related with inherited abnormalities of serotonin system.

두 dystopia에 나타난 대조적 dilemma Lord of the Flies와 A Clockwork Orange를 중심으로

William Golding's Lord of the Flies and Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange are the anti-Utopian novels. They have many things in common-the theme of dystopia, the form of fable, and the element of science fiction. In spite of these similarities two authors present quite different levels of intrpretation about the nature of evil in the dark world of dystopia. For Golding without civilized restraints life becomes nasty and brutish because of the evilic part of man's mature. The only alternative to civilization, therefor, is savagery and moral chaose. It seems clear that Lord of the Flies should be read as a moral novel embodying a conception of human depravity. While moral choice by reason and rule is Golding's main concern, its significane is purpolsely ignored by Burgess. He rathe tries to deal with the theme of man's free will in opposition to a clockwork orange society, where totalitarian social institutions cause a loss of a human being's will and his soul. The most devilish thing, therefore, is the inhuman social institution, which tries to condition the humans. He evasively suggests that the chaotic violence is inevitable and that it can be justified to some extent. In Lord of the Flies Ralph, as the leader of the boys, tries to establish and preserve an orderly, rational society. He provides for good and shelter, and suggests to light a signal fire. But this rational society begins to break down almost at once by the hunters led by Jack, who create their own primitive, savagery, orgiastic tribal society. They accidently kill Simon, the symbol of the supernatural world, and also kill Piggy violently, a scientific-minded raationalist. When Ralph, at the end of the novel, weeps for "the end of innocence," "the darkness of man's heart," the reader assumes that "darkness" here refers to the dark of evil side of man's nature. Alex, the narrator of A Clockwork Orange, is a fifteen-year-old boy who enjoys violent crimes-muggings, rapes, burglaries and so on. He tells his story in a teenage slang, Nadsat, a language invented by the author from Russian and from English cockney slang. But his violence is a desperate gesture of display of free will. He actively resists the sterile, mechanical life under a totalitarian society, where man's surrender of freedom is inevitable. Caught by the police, he becomes the object of an experiment of the Ludovico technique. As a result, he associates sickness with violence and reduces to automation. But his natural reflex of elation in the face of violence is revived by that technique at the end of the novel. Lord of the Flies and A Clockwork Orange present horrible visions of man's mature and of his life, and we are left in a mad, lost, loveless, brutal, sterile world. The reader gloomily sees acceptance of the violence as an innate part of human nature, for both writers imply that we are all violent by nature. In addition, the unanswerable paradoxes and dilemmas still remain: Golding is silent about man's salvation and Burgess avoids the answer about the question of responsibility for our moral choice.

실리카흄을 흔입한 고강도 콘크리트 개발

콘크리트 구조물이 대형화됨에 따라 설계단면이 증대되어 상대적으로 많은 경제적 손실을 부담하게 된다. 따라서 단면을 감소시키면서도 소요의 하중에 안전한 구조물을 건설하기 위해서는 우선적으로 구조물 건설에 기초가 되는 고품질, 고내구성의 고강도 콘크리트 개발이 절실히 요구된다 본 연구에서는 일정 시멘트비 및 혼화재 비율하에서 소요의 워커빌리티가 확보되는 고강도 콘크리트를 시간과 온도의 변화에 따라 증기 양생하여, 압축, 인장, 휨강도 뿐만 아니라 파괴특성을 실험적으로 연구하였다. 시료 제작시 시멘트 입자 사이의 공극 및 불연속 영역을 충전하여 고밀도화하기 위한 콘크리트용 혼화재로 시멘트 비표면적이 상당히 작은 초미립 분말인 실리카흄을 이용하였다. 또한 AE감수제 및 고성능 유동화제를 사용하여 혼화재의 첨가에 의하여 발생될 수 있는 워커빌리티의 감소를 방지하였다. 실험결과에 의하면 일정 양생 지속 시간하에서 온도의 증가에 따라 콘크리트의 압축, 인장 및 휨강도가 전반적으로 증가하였다. 동일하게 일정 온도하에서 양생 지속시간이 커짐에 따라 강도들이 증가됨을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 상대적으로 높은 온도와 긴 지속 양생 조건하에서 파괴에 대한 저항력이 크게 나타났다. The compressible, tensible, and flexibleresistance of the high strength concrete is analyzed by the experimentation in the present study. For the test, we cure several samples with the silica fume as a mixture being become dense the spaces between the particle of cement under the variation of both the temperature and the curing-interval. Then, the superplasticizer and the ezcon are also used to satisfy the required workability for construction. The compressible, tensible, and flexible resistances to a stress are increased as increasing the temperature and the time interval for the curing. Therefore it is concluded that the overal fractural and mechanical properties is improved by mixing the silica fume into the cement.

In Interior design, light is the most important factor in deciding color, texture and illumination level which are the basic factors of spatial design. To apply computer graphic technologies on prediction of illuminating effect, it is important to understand and analyse the basic properties of the illumination models that are local illumination model and global illumination model. The illumination models in computer graphics express the factors which determine the surface color, texture and light distribution through the reflection. The purpose of this study is to propose the best way of shading algorithm in interior space provided by the computer, based on the experimental analysis that 5 shading methods are applied to the interior space. The results of this study were as followed. 1) Local illumination models that are lambert shading, Ground shading and phong shading are not suitable to the prediction of interior illumination effect. 2) Raytracing that is global illumination model could be adopted to interior illumination effects. Ray tracing is a very versatile algorithm because of the large range of lighting effects it can model. 3) Neither radiality nor ray tracing offers a complete solution for simulating all interior illumination effects. 4) Radiality excels at rendering diffuse-to-diffuse inter-reflections and ray tracing excels at rendering specular reflections. By merging both shading techniques, that offers the best of both. Using computer technologies to simulate lighting in preliminary design stage which will provide information for designers and occupants to determine the effect of using artificial light sources at each stage of their design process. Further study in illumination analysis, prediction of illumination effect, and lighting calculation is required as computer media expands. Milton의 Lycidas에 나타난 재생과 부활의 패턴

John Milton's Lycidos is a conventional pastoral elergy, which is written for the expression of grief at the death of his friend, Edward King. Its structure has every element of the pastoral elergy -the invocation of muse, an expression of the grief felt in the loss of a friend-shepherd, a digression on the church, and, finally a consolation in which the poet declares the immortality, the resurrection of his friend. As the poem progresses, the imageries of rising and falling have been repeated in turn. While the sections of lamentation and protest descent to a falling tide, the consolatory sections take a rising tone. This pattern of rising and falling, the inevitable consequece caused by the elegiac structure of loss and compensation, reaches its peak in Lycidas'resurrection. The theme of loss in Lycidas is also related to the elegist's maturing ego. In lamenting his loss, the poet asserts that Lycidas far surpassed him as a poet. But soon he identifies himself with Lycidas, so he makes us see Lycidas's rebirth as his triumph of an aesthetic experience. At last he becomes a mature poet-priest who celebrates his immortal poetry, overcoming the undertone of doubt and fear.
