In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

In order to grasp the nature Dochaetang effects of Dochaetang on the intestinal movement of rabbit, the transport faculty of meal in small intestine of rat, experimental gastric and duodenal ulcers in rat, and the several intestinal bacterias were investigated by using its water and methanol extract. Dochaetang water extract(DWE) and methanol extract(DME) exhibited the contractile response and augmentation of spontaneous movement in the longitudinal muscle strips of jejunum, ileum and colon also circular muscle strip of colon, which were isolated from rabbits. Augmentation of spontaneous movement and contractile response of jejunum and ileum strips to DWE and DME were inhibited by cyproheptadine or diphenhydramine, but not affected by Ca^+2 free in bath solution. Atropine suppressed the above contractile response, but did not effect the augmentation of spontaneous movement. Atropine markedly decreased the spontaneous movement and contractile respone of longitudinal and circular muscle strips of colon to DWE or DME however cyproheptadine showed a significant inhibition on above two actions of longitudinal muscle strip, no remarkable effect on the two actions of circular muscle strip, and them diphenhydramine inhibited the two actions of longitudinal muscle strip and contractile response of circular muscle strip, but had no effect on the augmentation of spontaneous movement of circular muscle strips of colon to DWE and DME. Ca^+2 free in bath solution did not affect the all actions of longitudinal and circular muscle strips of colon to DWE and DME. DME given orally exhibited a significant increase of transport rate of charcoal meal in digestive organs of rat. DWE(p.o) potently inhibited the development of indomethacin of serotonin induced gastric ulcers and histamine-Carbachol induced doudenal ulcers in rats. DWE showed antibacterial activity against several intestinal bacteria in vitro test.

Corynebacterium hofmannii에 依한 전신감염 1예

Corynebacterium of hoffmannii is a part of normal pharyngeal flora. Human infection caused by C. hofmannii is very rare. All reported cases involve prosthetic or native cardiac valve. This patient sufered from chronic alcohlism, diabetes mellitus, and acute suppurative inflammation of brain, meninges and soft tissue. And he failed to show any clinical response to various antimicrobial therapy and died after discharge.

Lupus vulgaris, which is a progressive form of postprimary tuberculosis in patients with a moderate to high degree of immunity and tuberculin sensitivity, is the most common, most serious, and most variable type of cutaneous and mucous membrane tuberculosis. Domonstration of M.tuberculosis directly or in culture in some of these eruptions can be difficult. It is essential to demonstrate the presence of M.tuberculosis in a clinical sample for a definitive diagnosis of tuberculosis. With the discovery of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the DNA diagnostic approach for infection has developed in a short period. With the dual purpose of definitive and rapid diagnosis of tuberculosis, this study examined the usefulness of a nested PCR for detection of M. turberculosis. Compared with a single-step PCR, the two-step PCR was able to enhance sensitivity approximately 1,000-fold on the basis of bacterial counts and DNA quantity. We concluded that two-step nested PCR appeared to be the most useful PCR protocol for early and sensitive diagnostic method detecting M.tuberculosis in acid-fast stain negative specimens.

We propose SKKU Multimedia Distance Education System for distance education between nature science campus(Suwon) and social science campus(Seoul) in Sung Kyun Kwan University on DooRae (Distributed Object Oriented Multimedia Application Crafting Environment for Collaboration) framework (or platform). We support ONE : N study mode for a group lecture and discussion between two campus, and also we support mediation for floor mode of a group lecture and brain storming for floor mode of discussion. The communication portocol of this system is composed of TCP/IP and UDP, and the network type is composed of WAN(El line)for between the Suwon campus and Seoul campus, ATM LAN for each campus(local site). And, this system supports the application development of the collaborative multimedia environment connected with the various network in the CBM (Computer based Multimedia) based. Also, it does not restrict on space between a teacher(s) and a student(s) into cyberspace which made by network. This system has an interaction, late comer, a question and an answer, multi-session, application sharing and whiteboard which resembles chalkboard. Also, various supplementary functions such as video conference and voice conference for this system are what makes face-to-face education effective. Also it supports real or non-real type. The operation system developed on windows 95.

The separation of rare earths minerals is verb difficult because of their similar chemical properties. The rare earth minerals are used as the mixed rare earth minerals or the misch metal without separation to each element. However, the high purity rare earths are recently produced commercially to each element so they there are used as the materials for high tech. Based on the characterization results for the raw minerals, we have developed a combined process containing gravity seperation, magnetic severation and flotation. The result obtained from this study is monazite concentration of TREO grade 69.11% and Recovery 56.02%.

左金丸이 腸運動 및 胃液分泌에 미치는 影響

Effects of Joakeumwhan(左金丸) extract on the gastrointestinal tract were investigated in rabbits and rats. Treatment of Joakeumwhan extract caused an increase of contractile response of the isolated rabbit ileum. Generally the magnitude of increase was related to the dose of Joakeumwhan extract. The contracting effect of Joakeumwhan extract was not changed by pretreatment of Atropine. The contracting effect of Joakeumwhan extract was inhibited by pretreatment of Pheniramin maleate. The contracting effect of Joakeumwhan extract was inhibited by pretreatment of Cyproheptadine. The contractile response of the isolated lieum was reduced by retreatment of Joakeumwhan extract. The gastric secretion of rat was increased by treatment of Joakeumwhan extract. The gastric acidity of rat was not changed by treatment of Joakeumwhan extract.

黃酸銅溶液의 電氣傳導度에 關한 硏究

To study the electric conductivity of CuSO₄·5H₂O solution using the U. C. current, the measurements of U. C. current have been made with the changes of concentration, length of solution column and Temperature of solution. The changes of resistance, specific resistance and equivalent conductance have been researched on each condition. The follows are summarized as the results of research. (1) In the U. C. current, the equation R-R₁=ρ' l/A may he proposed to calculate the specific resistance of solution. (2) The changes of the equivalent conductance have been increased with decreasing in concentration of solution. (3) The equivalent conductance values of CuSO₄·5H₂O solution mixed with H₂SO₄ solution are larger than that of pure CuSO₄·5H₂O solution. (4) The changes of drift velocity of ions have been decreased with increasing in concentration. (5) The changes of equivalent conductance have been il]creased with increasing in temperature.

전국 응급의학과 수련병원의 응급실 병력지에 대한 분석

Background: This study was designed to analyze the current emergency department(ED) medical records of teaching hospitals in Korea. Methods: The five-item questionnaires were mailed to the EDs of 40 hospitals. Among them, 27 questionnaires and 35 ED medical records were returned for reply rates of 67.5% and 87.5%, respectively. Results: 1) The actual number of data elements in the ED medical records used by each hospital varies widely. It ranges from 1 to 15 data elements with an average of 7.5 data elements. 2) Thirteen data elements, signature of nurse, checklist style in review of systems, checklist style in physical examination, neurologic examination, figure of face, Glasgow coma scale, trauma scale, treatment plan, mode of transfer, condition on transfer, documents sent with patient, condition on discharge or discharge instruction, use of pediatric chart and vaccination history are used by less than 50% of the medical records examined. 3) There was no difference in the total number of data elements or in redesign and computerization of ED medical record based on the location of the hospital, the type of hospital administration, or the number of years since the start of EM residency program. 4) There was a statistically increased number of data elements in redesigned medical records. 5) In the survey, 89% of the residents replied that medical records needed to be redesigned. With respect to uniformity, 58% of the residents disagreed. A well-designed checklist chart rather than a descriptive chart was preferred by 89% of the residents. Conclusion: The currently used ED medical records have much room for improvement. The age of the ED had little impact on the quality of ED medical records. More attention and effort in this field are needed. In addition, The Korean Society of Emergency Medicine should provide guidelines for ED medical records.
