Hypoxia-Responsive MicroRNA-101 Promotes Angiogenesis <i>via</i> Heme Oxygenase-1/Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Axis by Targeting Cullin 3

<P>Aims: Hypoxia induces expression of various genes and microRNAs (miRs) that regulate angiogenesis and vascular function. In this study, we investigated a new functional role of new hypoxia-responsive miR-101 in angiogenesis and its underlying mechanism for regulating heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression. Results: We found that hypoxia induced miR-101, which binds to the 3 ' untranslated region of cullin 3 (Cul3) and stabilizes nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) via inhibition of the proteasomal degradation pathway. miR-101 overexpression promoted Nrf2 nuclear accumulation, which was accompanied with increases in HO-1 induction, VEGF expression, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS)-derived nitric oxide (NO) production. The elevated NO-induced S-nitrosylation of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 and subsequent induction of Nrf2-dependent HO-1 lead to further elevation of VEGF production via a positive feedback loop between the Nrf2/HO-1 and VEGF/eNOS axes. Moreover, miR-101 promoted angiogenic signals and angiogenesis both in vitro and in vivo, and these events were attenuated by inhibiting the biological activity of HO-1, VEGF, or eNOS. Moreover, these effects were also observed in aortic rings from HO-1(+/-) and eNOS(-/-) mice. Local overexpression of miR-101 improved therapeutic angiogenesis and perfusion recovery in the ischemic mouse hindlimb, whereas antagomiR-101 diminished regional blood flow. Innovation: Hypoxia-responsive miR-101 stimulates angiogenesis by activating the HO-1/VEGF/eNOS axis via Cul3 targeting. Thus, miR-101 is a novel angiomir. Conclusion: Our results provide new mechanistic insights into a functional role of miR-101 as a potential therapeutic target in angiogenesis and vascular remodeling. Antioxid. Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

Azithromycin으로 치료한 임신 중 쓰쓰가무시병 1예

We report a case of tsutsugamushi disease in a 26 year-old pregnant woman who was treated with azithromycin. Her gestation period was 27 weeks and she admitted with fever, rash, and eschar on the right shoulder. Currently recommended medications for the treatment of scrub typhus are doxycycline or chloramphenicol. But, these drugs are class D drugs according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Fetal Risk Summary, so they couldn't be used to treat pregnant women. Recently, a few case reports suggested that azithromycin, a relatively new macrolide antibiotic, was effective and safe for the treatment of scrub typhus in pregnant women. And, there is no evidence that azithromycin causes harmful effects to the developing fetus or to children. On the basis of current in vivo test that confirms the effectiveness of azithromycin, it may be the drug of choice for the treatment of scrub typhus in pregnant women and children. 치내치는 치아 발육 중에 석회화되기 전, 치아의 법랑상피가 일부 함입되어 설측에 깊은 소와를 형성하는 발생학적 변이이다. 주로, 상악 측절치에 호발한다. 치내치는 형태학적으로 다양하며, 종종 초기에 치수괴사에 이르기도 한다. 치내치는 복잡한 해부학적 구조로 인해 치수 치료시 많은 어려움이 따른다. 따라서, 치내치는 초기 진단이 중요하고, 예방적 치료가 추천된다. 이에 본 증례는 치내치를 가진 환아에서의 치료에 관해 보고하고자 한다. Dens invaginatus is a developmental variation resulting from invasination of the tooth crown of root before calcification. Teeth most affected are maxillary lateral incisors. The malformation shows a broad spectrum of morphologic variations and frequently results in early pulp necrosis. Root canal therapy may present severe problems because of the complex anatomy of the teeth. So, the early diagnosis of such malformation is crucial and a preventive approach has been recommended. This report describes three cases of dens invaginatus treatment.

외과적 노출술을 이용한 매복된 하악 제 1 대구치의 자발적 맹출 유도

하악 제 1대구치 매복의 발생 빈도는 전체 인구의 0.01%로 드물게 나타난다. 매복의 원인으로는 맹출 공간의 부족, 과잉치, 치성 종양이나 낭과 같은 맹출로상의 장애물, 유전적 요인, 내분비 질환, 외상 등이 있다. 하악 제 1대구치의 매복으로 인해 하안면 고경의 감소, 낭의 형성, 치관 주위염, 인접치의 치근 흡수, 부정 교합 등의 부작용이 생길 수 있으며, 치료 방법으로는 외과적 노출술, 교정적 견인, 외과적 재위치술, 발거 등이 있다. 다음의 두 증례는 하악 제 1대구치의 미맹출을 주소로 내원한 환아에게 외과적 노출술을 시행하여 원심 경사 매복된 하악 제 1대구치의 자발적 맹출을 유도한 증례들이다. Impaction of mandibular first molar is relatively rare and its overall frequency has been reported to be 0.01%. The etiology of impaction are lack of eruption space, physical obstacles such as supernumerary teeth, odontomas or odontogenic tumors, hereditary factors, functional disturbances of endocrine glands and traumas. Impaction of mandibular first molar can result in a short lower facial height, formation of a follicular cyst, pericoronal inflammation, resorption of the roots of neighboring teeth and malocclusion. The treatment options available for impacted teeth include surgical exposure, orthodontic forced eruption, surgical repositioning and surgical removal of unerupted molar. This report presents two cases of distally tilted and impacted mandibular first molars which were treated by surgical exposure. In these cases, we could observe spontaneous eruption of the impacted mandibular first molars after surgical exposure.

Schwann cells(SCs), an important component of the peripheral nervous system, intract with nerous to mutually support growth and replication for the peripheral nerve regentation. Recently, ading SCs to the lumen of guidance channel is widely tried to improve regeneration or to make regeneration possible over otherwise irreparable gaps. however, it is not easy to isolate and multiplicate SCs as much as enough to help the axonal regeneration. For the allogeneic SCs source for tubular nerve guidance, we developed a little bit improved technique of harvesting and multiplicating SCs. by culturing dispersed dorsal root ganglia in specially designed medium with growth factors and serial processing, we repeatedlly generate relatively homogenous SC cultures. Our technique was compared with other methods of literature using immunostaining methods such as GFAP, S100, BDNF and the total SC count assessment at different time interval after primary culture.

정인섭 동요와 악곡 연구

이 글은 식민지시대 울산 출신 정인섭의 색동회 활동과 동요 창작의 현황을 파악하고 악곡을 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이 시기 동요는 신문이나 잡지 등 근대 매체를 통해 창작되고 향유되면서 대중적으로 빠르게 보급되고 안착하였다. 즉 동요는 어린이잡지의 독자투고란이나 일간지의 학예면을 통해서 독자와 만나고 점차 자기 위상을 확립하게 된 것이다. 당시 어린이잡지인 『어린이』의 경우 ‘동요란’을 개설하였으며, 일간지 『동아일보』의 경우에도 학예면의 가장 많은 부분을 차지하는 장르는 동요였다. 그만큼 동요에 대한 독자들의 열망이 높았다. 그만큼 매체가 동요의 대중화에 큰 역할을 수행했던 것이다. 이러한 현실적 토대에서 전문적인 동요작가들이 등장하였으며, 울산에서도 정인섭을 비롯하여 서덕출, 오영수, 신고송 등이 등장하였다. 이들이 남긴 ‘동요’의 문학사적 위치를 실증적으로 추적하는 일은 매우 중요하다고 하겠다. 특히 정인섭은 ‘색동회’와 ‘녹양회’의 회원으로 활동하고, 어린이잡지 『어린이』의 필진으로 참여하는 등 어린이문화운동에 앞장선 인물이다. 정순철 동요집 『참새의 노래』에 수록된 <참새>, <꿈 노루>, <코끼리 코>, <처마 끗헤 새 한 마리>, <굴뚝쟁이>, <가을 나븨>, <설날>과 강신명이 엮은 『아동가요곡집』에 수록된 <봄노래>, <보건체조가> 등은 어린이들을 위한 동심천사주의와 교훈주의, 계몽주의를 잘 드러내고 있으며, 가사의 운율을 음악적 선율로 살려 가사의 의미를 자연스럽게 표현하도록 하였다. 이러한 정인섭의 동요 보급은 어린이문화운동에 기여하였고, 그의 가곡은 아직도 연주회에서 불리는 등 예술적으로 가치를 인정받고 있어 음악사적으로 의의가 크다. The purpose of this article is to analyze the current situation of the creation of songs and the activities of Jeong In-seop’s Saikdonghoi(색동회) movement in Ulsan during the colonial period. The most important part of the media was that the agitation quickly settled into the modern genre. The children’s song, which was created and enjoyed by the previous oral tradition, began to be created and enjoyed through typed media such as newspapers and magazines in modern times. The popular distribution was also made by such media: children’s literature magazines’ readers’ comments or daily journals’ academic section, which led to the meeting with readers and gradually establishing their own status. At that time, readers’ desire for children’s songs was high enough to open ‘swaying’ independently in the case of children, and the genre of Dong-A Ilbo, which occupies the largest part of the curriculum, was children's songs. Therefore, this media plays the biggest role in popularizing agitation. In this realistic foundation of the time, professional children’s songs were born, and Jung In-seop, Seo Deok-chul, Oh Young-soo, and Shin-Go-song were born in Ulsan. It is very important to empirically track the literary history of ‘single’ about them.,In particular, Jung In-seop has been a member of the ‘Saikdonghoi(색동회)’ and ‘Nokyanghoi(녹양회)’ and has led the children's cultural movement by participating as a writer for children’s magazines. The songs of Jung Soon-chul's song of the sparrows include “Sparrow”, “Dream Noru”, “Elephant Nose”, “A Shrine Bird”, “Chimney”, “Autumn Na”, “New Year” and “Spring Song” and “Health Gymnastics” It shows the meaning of the lyrics naturally by utilizing the rhythm of the lyrics with musical melody.,This spread of children’s songs by Jung In-seop contributed to the children’s cultural movement, and his songs are still called in concerts, and their value is recognized artistically, which is of great significance in the history of music.
