Prediction of retained austenite fraction is quite important in designing advanced high strength steels since retained austeniteis the source of transformation-induced plasticity. The present study investigates the phase constitution of a medium-carbonQ&P steel by comparing various approaches to the transformation stasis of bainitic ferrite and applying them to the partitioningprocess. Among them, the modified GEB approach gave the best agreement with the experimental observation, includingthe effects of heat-treatment condition and chemical composition on phase constitution. This indicates phase transformationduring partitioning can be effectively described by the physics of Gibbs energy balance approach.

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

The purpose of this study was carried out an epidemiological survey on the prevalence rate of the canine heartworms in Seoul City and the districts of Pa-Ju, Seong-Nam and Po-Chon in Kyonggi province of Korea from September 1994 to the end of September 1995. The blood samples from 292 male and 193 female dogs (pet, 363 ; fighting dogs, 60 ; working dogs, 62) were examined for the adult heartworms cuticle antibodies using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELSA) kits. The test was designed to detect the antibodies of the host against the specific cuticle antigens produced with the adult heartworms.
난소절제후 Estrogen을 투여한 흰쥐 대동맥에서 Protein Kinase C-α와 Fas 발현의 변화

Estrogen is believed to decrease coronary artery disease. Protein kinase C-α(PKCα)appear to be important in signal conduction pathways. Estrogen treatment increases catalytic activity of PKCα,and activation of PKCαcan modulate estrogen receptor levels and responsiveness. And it was reported that activation of PKC can protect cells from apoptosis induced by Fas ligation. But the beneficial effect of estrogen on PKCαwas not clearly demonstrated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of PKCαafter ovariectomy and estrogen therapy in rat aorta. The results were summarized as below: 1. The significant pathological changes were not observed in the rat aorta irrelevant to ovariectomy and estrogen therapy. 2. The expression of Fas was decreased in the aorta of estrogen-treated rats than that of ovariectomized rats without estrogen therapy. 3. Increased expression of PKCαwas more marked in the aprta of estrogen-treated rats than that of ovariectomized rat without estrogen therapy. In conclusion,PKCαmay be important in signal conduation pathway on the effect of estrogen. Activation of PKCαby estrogen reduced Fas expression, suggesting that PKCαactivation may play a role in protection against atherasclerosis. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of PKCαafter estrogen therapy.
Pseudomonas putida SM 25의 Catechol 1,2-Dioxygenase의 부분정제와 이에 의한 cis,cis-Muconic Acid의 생성

Pseudomonas putida SM 25 로부터 catechol 1,2-dioxygenase를 ammonium sulfate precipitation, DEAE-sepharose A-50 CL-6B ion exchange chromatography, phenyl-sepharose CL-4B hydro-phobic chromatography 및 preparative gel permeation chromatography를 통해 정제배율 806.2배, 정제수율 10.6%로 부분정제하였다. Phenol, benzoate, catechol 및 salicylate가 효소를 유도하였으며, 그 중 5mM phenol이 가장 좋은 결과를 나타내었다. 이 효소는 catechol에 대해서는 우수한 효소 활성을 보였으나, 4-methylcatechol, pyrogallol 및 protocatechuate에 대해서는 거의 활성을 보이지 않았으며, catechol에 대한 Km 값은 7.8 M 이었다. 이 효소는 pH 7.5, 40℃에서 가장 높은 활성을 보였다. 이 효소는 pH 7.0∼11.0에서 안정하였으며, 열에 불안정하여 50℃에서 15분 내에 활성을 완전히 잃었고, thiol기 저해제에 의한 영향을 받지 않았다. 이 효소에 의한 catechol의 반응산물을 UV-visible spectroscopy, HPLC-diode array spectroscopy, GC-mass spectrometry로 분석한 결과 cis,cis-muconic acid로 확인되었다.

Focusing on benzene, a representative of volatile organic materials resulting from oil pollution, this paper studies the effects of photocatalytic oxidation and photo-sensitized ions, when TiO₂photocatalyst is added to photo-sensitized ions ; persulfate, sulfate, nitrate, nitrite, and chloride ion. This study found that the benzene in aqueous solution was efficiently removed through photocatalytic oxidation. In case of photocatalyst- sensitized-oxidation that the wavelength less than 330㎚ was intercepted by the use of Pyrex filter, an addition of persulfate ion, and sulfate ion showed some elevation of dissolution rate of benzene, whereas an addition of nitrite ion and chloride ion lowered the dissolution rate of benzene. The coexistence of persulfate ion and nitrate ion showed the same dissolution rate tendency as the result of photocatalytic oxidation of benzene. However, the coexistence of nitrite ion lowered the dissolution of benzene.

To help middle school students understand concept of tide, we developed a model of tide, and applied it to students in a middle school in Daegu city to find its effectiveness. The subjects consisted of 136 students of the 7th grade, divided into the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group (N=68) were given a learning cycle model, and the control group (N=68) were given a traditional lecture. The formative evaluation of the experiment was as follows: the average score of the experimental group was 6.43, and that of the control group was 5.68 (its full score 9), The result shows that the teaching method using the tidal model is more effective than the lecture-centered traditional one in helping the students understand the concept of tide. 이 연구는 조석개념에 대한 중학생들의 이해를 돕기 위해 수업에 사용할 조석모형을 개발하였다. 이 조석 모형을 활용한 수업이 중학생들의 조석의 이해에 얼마나 효과적인지 현장에 적용해 보았다. 이 연구의 적용은 대구 시내에 있는 한 중학교의 7학년 136명을 실험집단과 통제집단 의 두 집단으로 나누어 실시하였다 실험 집단(N=68)은 조석 모형을 순환학습 모형의 수업으로 실시하고 통제 집단(N=68)은 전통적 강의식 수업으로 실시하였다. 수업 후에 실시한 형성평가의 결과는,조석모형을 적용한 실험 집단의 평균점수는 6.43점(9점 만점),전통적 강의식으로 수업한 통제집단 은 5.68점으로 실험집단의 평균점수가 더 높았다. 그러므로 조석모형이 7학년 중학생 들의 조석현상의 개념이해에 효과적이었음을 보여준다.
GC-ECD를 이용한 유기염소계 및 Pyrethroid계 농약 동시 분석법

Pesticides were extracted from samples with 70% acetone and methylene chloride in order, and then cleaned up via open-column chromatography apparatus packed with florisil, and finally analyzed simultaneously the organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticides using GC(ECD). An ultra-2 fused silica capillary column was used to separate and identify the products. The resolution between the last isomeric peak of cypermethrin(59.987min) and the first isomeric peak of flucythrinate(60.043min) was not satisfactory. The last isomeric peak of fenvalerate(62.344min) and the first isomeric peak of fluvalinate(62.397min) were overlapped. Recoveries of soybean sample for the most pesticides were 73.3% to 102.4%. Detection limits were between 0.004 and 0.063 ㎍/㎎ when this method was used.
