In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.
Primary intraosseous carcinoma of the mandible

A very uncommon tumor, primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC), is a carcinoma arising within the jaw. The definite diagnosis of PIOC is often difficult as the lesion must be distinguished from alveolar carcinoma that may invade the bone from the overlying soft tissues or from the tumors that have metastasized to the jaw from a distant site. A case of PIOC arising in the mandible is presented. The clinical, radiologic, and histologic features are described. This rare lesion should be considered in any differential diagnosis of a jaw radiolucency.
스트레칭운동에서 온열요법이 요부의 유연성에 미치는 영향

스트레칭(stretching)은 최근 신체 각 부위를 적절하게 움직이게 하여 긴장과 피로를 풀어주어 신체 발달을 꾀하고 유연성을 향상시키는데 좋은 운동방법으로 평가되고 있다. 온열요법(heating therapy)은 신체부분에 국소적으로 열을 가하여 혈액의 순환을 증가시켜서 손상의 빠른 회복을 기대하여 물리치료학에서 현재 많이 이용되는 방법으로 관절 경직의 완화, 동통 완화, 그리고 근 경련의 감소에 효과적이다. 본 연구에서는 20대에서 40대 사이의 신경학적 제한이 없는 정상인을 대상으로, 스트레칭 운동을 시행할 때 혼합되는 온열요법이 요부의 유연성 개선에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 20대에서 40대 20명(남10, 여10명)을 10명씩 두 집단으로 나누어 한 집단은 8 동작의 스트레칭 시행하는 스트레칭 집단으로 하고, 다른 한 집단은 온습포(hot pack)와 8 동작의 스트레칭을 혼합하는 열-스트레칭 혼합 집단으로 하였다. 각 집단은 주 4회 6주간 실시되었으며, 유연성 검사를 위해 체간 굴곡(trunk flexion), 체간 신전(trunk extension), 그리고 요부의 유연성을 나타내는 Schober-test를 측정하였다. 두 그룹간의 차이를 연구하여 요부의 유연성 개선에 미치는 효과를 검증하였으며, 나아가 본 연구는 요부 안정화 프로그램의 중요성과 산업체 근로자와 장시간 같은 자세로 작업을 하는 장애자들에게서 흔히 발생하는 요부의 통증에 접근하기 위해 고안되었다. The purpose of this study is to verify the difference of effect between group and period in order to find out effect on lumbar flexibility of treatment modality(stretching, heat - stretching) and period. The subject was chosen from the mild physically normal person who range from 20 to 40 years old without any neurological problem. Among these subjects, 20 persons(10 male, 10 female) were selected to two different groups. These were classified as stretching and heat- stretching groups. In stretching group, 8 different kind of stretching exercises were performed. In heat-stretching group, hot pack and stretching were performed together with 8 different stretching exercises. For the measurement of flexibility, trunk flexion test, trunk extension test and Schober-test were used. Pre-test was performed before treatment test, post-test was performed after 6 week of treatment test. As a result of this test, the following fact was shown 1) In trunk flexion and trunk extension test, effect between groups did not occur but effect of treatment period showed significance statistically. In addition, interactive effect between treatment period and each group showed the biggest difference in heat and stretching group. 2) In Schober-test, effect of treatment period showed significance statistically, effect between group and interactive effect did not occur.
엔로플록사신 액제의 닭 호흡기 및 소화기 감염증에 대한 예방 및 치료효과

We evaluated the efficacy of the liquid form of enrofloxacin against poultry respiratory and digestive infections, the major problems in the poultry industry, from diverse diagnosis viewpoints. Results obtained through this study were as follows: 1. The liquid form of enrofloxacin showed good acceptability to poultry owing to no abhorrence to the drug by chickens, which indicated its suitability for mixing in drinking water. 2. The application of the enrofloxacin formulation improved the productivity of the chicken farm to a great extent by lowering the death toll of chicken raised in the farm. 3. The use of the drug shortened the days to the market, and increased the body weight at the time of marketing. 4. Preventive and therapeutic effects of the liquid enrofloxacin were observed higher than ampicillin, a major antibiotic used in poultry farming. From above results, the liquid form of enrofloxacin would find its use for the prevention and treatment of digestive and respiratory infections, let alone the growth promotion and feed efficiency, especially in the chicken farming practice.

In this study the antimicrobial spectrum and sensitivity of a liquid formulation of enrofloxacin against the major six pathogenic bacteria isolated from the diseased poultry in Korea were evaluated in comparison with ciprfloxacin (CFX), gentamicin (GM) and penicillin (PC). A liquid form of enrofloxacin, a test material and ciprofloxacin showed at least 83% antibacterial activity against all of six test pathogenic microorganisms at the fixed concentration of 10 ㎍/㎖. Gentamicin and penicillin revealed much lower antibacterial activity at the same condition. We evaluated the liquid form of enrofloxacin as having widespread antibacterial spectrum against poultry infections. The liquid form of enrofloxacin showed potent antibacterial activity, with the MIC range being 0.12∼2 ㎍/㎖ against Gram positives, 0.06∼2 ㎍/㎖ against Gram negatives and 0.5∼2 ㎍/㎖ against Mycoplasma spp. These values were equivalent to or somewhat higher than those of ciprofloxacin, but much lower than those of gentamicn and penicillin. This new liquid form of enrofloxacin would find its way in application of mixing with drinking water for the prevention and treatment of diverse infections in chickens.

Pythium species (Pythiales, Oomycetes) are well known as the algal pathogen that causes red rot disease in Pyropia / Porphyra species (Bangiales, Rhodophyta). Accurate species identification of the pathogen is important to finding a scientific solution for the disease and to clarify the host-parasite relationship. In Korea, only Pythium porphyrae has been reported from Pyropia species, with identifications based on culture and genetic analysis of the nuclear internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. Recent fungal DNA barcoding studies have shown the low taxonomic resolution of the ITS region and suggested the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene as an alternative molecular marker to identify Pythium species. In this study, we applied an analysis of both the ITS and cox1 regions to clarify the taxonomic relationships of Korean Pythium species. From the results, the two closely related Pythium species (P. chondricola and P. porphyrae) showed the same ITS sequence, while the cox1 marker successfully discriminated P. chondricola from P. porphyrae. This is the first report of the presence of P. chondricola from the infected blade of Pyropia yezoensis in Asia. This finding of the algal pathogen provides important information for identifying and determining the distribution of Pythium species. Further studies are also needed to confirm whether P. chondricola and P. porphyrae are coexisting as algal pathogens of Pyropia species in Korea.

<P>This paper presents an efficient instruction scheduling algorithm which generates low-power codes for embedded system applications. Reordering and recoding are concurrently applied for low-power code generation in the proposed algorithm. By appropriate reordering of instruction sequences, the efficiency of instruction recoding is increased. The proposed algorithm constructs program codes on a basic-block basis by selecting a code sequence from among the schedules generated randomly and maintained by the system. By generating random schedules for each of the basic blocks constituting an application program, the proposed algorithm constructs a histogram graph for each of the instruction fields to estimate the figure-of-merits achievable by reordering instruction sequences. For further optimization, the system performs simulated annealing on the generated code. Experimental results for benchmark programs show that the codes generated by the proposed algorithm consume 37.2% less power on average when compared to the previous algorithm which performs list scheduling prior to instruction recoding.</P>
