The present study was performed to elucidate the effect of canine electroacupuncture anesthesia on vital signs and blood gas values. Groups were divided into experimental (electroacupuncture: EA) and control (ketamine) groups. The vital signs (body temperature, respiration rate and pulse) and blood gas values (pH, $pCO_2$ and $pO_2$) of venous and arterial blood were determined. Body temperatures of EA group were significant higher than than of ketamine group at 15 min., 30 min., 45min. and 60 min. (p<0.05) after anesthesia, respectively. The respiration rates of EA group were higher than those of ketamine group, however, significant differences were not observed between both groups. The pulses of EA group were significant higher than those of ketamine group at 5 min. (p<0.05), 10 min. (p<0.01), 15 min. and 30 min. (p<0.05) after anesthesia, respectively. The arterial and venous blood pHs of ketamine group were slightly higher than those of EA group, respectively, however, no significant differences were found between both groups. Significant differences were not observed between both groups in the arterial and venous blood $pCO_2$, respectively. The arterial blood $pO_2$ of EA group was significant higher than those of ketamine group at 5 min. (p<0.05) after anesthesia. No significant differences were observed between both groups in the venous blood $pO_2$. These results suggest that the changes of vital signs and blood gas values of EA group are similar to those of ketamine group with the exception of changes in the body temperature, pulse and arterial blood $pO_2$.

Background : Despite rigorous investigations, the etiology of community-acquired pneumonia remains unknown in about 50% of hospitalized patients. The diagnosis of the etiological agent is becoming more challenging and more critical as number of newer pathogens have been recognized in recent years. In the 3-year period prospective study we investigated adult patients with community-acquired pneumonia for Legionella, Leptospira, Hantaan virus and Orientia tsutsugamushi as potential etiologic agents. Methods : A prospective multicenter study was performed from May 1997 to April 2000. A total of 431 patients with community-acquired pneumonia under the inclusion criteria were examined for specific microbial diagnosis; sputum culture and PCR, and serologic teats including indirect immunofluorescence antibody (IFA) test for Legionella, and hemagglutination tests for Leptosoira, Hantaan virus and O. tsutsugamushi. Etiologic diagnosis was determined on the basis of the review of case record forms and specific laboratory diagnostic criteria. Results : During the study period a total of 385 sputum and 283 serum samples were examined. Legionella pneumonia was diagnosed in 2.3% (10/431) of the cases examined : 1.4% cases with PCR-positive (5/367) and 2.1% with positive IFA test (6/283). Leptospirosis and scrub typhus were diagnosed in 0.4% (1/252) and 2.0% (5/252), respectively. All 5 cases with scrub typhus occurred in late fall, and rash or eschar was not found. None of cases was Hantaan virus infection. Conclusion : The results suggest that Legionella, Leptospira, and O. tsutsugamushi should be considered in the etiologic diagnosis and empirical antibiotic therapy of community-acquired pneumonia. Metagenomic Analysis of Fungal Communities Inhabiting the Fairy Ring Zone of Tricholoma matsutake

Tricholoma matsutake, an ectomycorrhiza that has mutual relationships with the rootlet of Pinus denisflora, forms a fruiting body that serves as a valuable food in Asia. However, the artificial culture of this fungus has not been successful. Soil fungi, including T. matsutake, coexist with many other microorganisms and plants; therefore, complex microbial communities have an influence on the fruiting body formation of T. matsutake. Here, we report on the structures of fungal communities associated with the fairy ring of T. matsutake through the pyrosequencing method. Soil samples were collected inside the fairy ring zone, in the fairy ring zone, and outside the fairy ring zone. A total of 37,125 sequencing reads were obtained and 728 to 1,962 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were observed in the sampling zones. The fairy ring zone had the lowest OTUs and the lowest fungal diversity of all sampling zones. The number of OTUs and fungal taxa inside and outside the fairy ring zone was, respectively, about 2 times and 1.5 times higher than the fairy ring. Taxonomic analysis showed that each sampling zone has different fungal communities. In particular, out of 209 genera total, 6 genera in the fairy ring zone, such as Hemimycena, were uniquely present and 31 genera, such as Mycena, Boletopsis, and Repetophragma, were specifically absent. The results of metagenomic analysis based on the pyrosequencing indicate a decrease of fungal communities in the fairy ring zone and changes of fungal communities depending on the fairy ring growth of T. matsutake.

This study was conducted to optimize the processing of high quality surimi gel from unmarketable cultured bastard halibut Paralichthys olivaceus. According to endogenous enzyme activity and processing optimization, high quality surimi gel from unmarketable cultured bastard halibut was prepared by mixing 3.0% (w/w) salt, 2.4% (w/w) starch, 5.0% (w/w) egg white and 4.8% (w/w) ice water in a Stephan mixer, set at 5˚C for 24 h, followed by boiling for 30 min, and finally cooling for 30 min. The strength of the surimi gel from unmarketable cultured bastard halibut prepared by the above processing method was 1,257 g×cm, which was 33% higher than that of a commercial surimi gel from Alaska pollock, grade SA.

수종의 광중합기를 이용한 고정용 광중합형 글라스 아이오노머 시멘트의 전단 결합 강도에 관한 연구

본 연구에서는 세 가지 서로 다른 광원(할로겐 램프 : Elipar Trilight ; 3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany, Light Emitting Diode (LED) : Elipar Freelight2 : 3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany, 플라즈마 광 : Flipo ; LOKKI, France)을 사용하여 브라켓과 광원사이의 거리에 따른 광중합형 글라스 아이오노머 시멘트(Fuji ORTHO LC : GC, Japan)의 전단 결합 강도를 알아보고자 하였다. 1. 광중합기에 따른 전단 결합 강도는 광중합기로부터 브라켓까지의 거리가 0mm일 때, 3 가지 광원에 유의할 만한 차이는 보이지 않았고 광중합기로부터 브라켓까지의 거리가 3mm, 6mm일 때. 할로겐 광과 플라즈마 광 사이에는 유의할 만한 차이가 없었으나 LED 광은 유의성 있게 낮은 전단 결합 강도를 나타냈다. 2. 할로겐 광과 플라즈마 광으로 광중합시 거리에 따른 전단 결합 강도에 유의한 차 없었고 LED광을 사용하여 광중합시에는 거리가 증가할수록 전단 결합 강도가 감소하였다. 특히 0mm에서 3mm로 거리가 증가시 유의할 만한 감소를 나타내었다. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of light-tip distance on the shear bond strength of a visible light-cured glass ionomer cement(Fuji Ortho LC : GC, Japan) cured with three different light curing units : a halogen light(Elipar Trilight : 3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany), a Light Emitting Diode (LED, Elipar Freelight2 : 3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) and a plasma arc light (Flipo : LOKKI, France). 1. When used at a distance of 0mm from the bracket, the three light curing units showed no statistically different shear bond strengths. At distance of 3 and 6mm, no significant differences were found between the halogen and plasma arc lights, but both had significantly higher shear bond strengths than the LED light. 2. The halogen light and plasma arc light showed that no significant differences in bond strength were found among the three distances. Using the LED light, a greater light-tip distance produced significantly lower shear bond strengths.

This study explored three sectors that one should know when he or she wants to use the PACS system. First, image acquisition, image saving and the quality of image output; Secondly, server and network; Thirdly, how to manage image saving and data base. The results were as follows; 1. Image Quality of PACS System 1) Image quality in the stage of image acquisition is affected by bit depth and matrix size. 2) Image quality in the stage of image saving is influenced by a compressed rate. Medical images are based n a principle of 2:1 non loss compress. 3) Image quality in the stage of image output is affected by monitor quality(brightness and the number of scanning line) 2. Server and Network 1) The use of server is different according to hospitals' scale. Clustering technique is used for main computer's DB because of system's stability. Doubling technique of power supply is also used. Ga-chun hospital and Baik hospital located in ll-san use Windows NT for the operating system of the server and other hospitals use UNIX. 2) ATM and Fast Ethenet is used for the Network that can transmit large data faster. In the case of hospitals that have PACS used the Network over 100 Mbps. There were two types of network construction-single network and double network. 3. Data saving and DB. 1) When choosing a saving media of PACS, speed and reliability and price are considered important categories. For short-term, RAID process is formed using HDD and long term Optical Juke Box is mainly used. 2) Oracle that is useful for large data management is used. 3) In the near future, HDD is going to be mainly used regardless of the short term or long term saving media and practical application of RAM Disk will increase.
