The diffuse sclerosing variant (DSV) is a rare malignant tumour that accounts for 0.7-5.3% of all papillary thyroid cancers. DSV tends to occur at a younger age and has a higher incidence of cervical lymph node metastases, compared with papillary thyroid carcinoma. A 62-year-old female patient diagnosed thyroid nodule with diffuse and mild increased 18F-deoxy-glucose (FDG) on FDG positron emission tomography (PET)-computed tomogram (CT) scan. The ultrasound images showed typical findings of DSV such as diffusely enlarged thyroid lobes and diffusely scattered microcalcification. We performed this patient ultrasonography guided fine needle aspiration and cytologic analysis revealed papillary carcinoma. Total thyroidectomy with central compartment node dissection and lateral lymph node dissection was performed and finally diagnosed DVS. The authors report this case with literature review.

Il Woong Cleft lip and palate foundation was founded in 1968 by Professor emeritus Byoung-Il Min. Since then the foundation has operated numerous cleft lip and palate patients not only in Korea but also in under-developed countries such as Vietnam, China, and Cambodia. In December 2005, the foundation was allowed as an incorporated association by Ministry of Foreign affairs and Trade, so that it could have official status. From March 6th 2009 to March 14th 2009, we conductp,d charity cleft lip and palate operations of 23 patients in areas of Deozhou, China. Hereby we present the results of operations.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

Iron is an essential mineral found in every cell of the human body to make the oxygen-carrying proteins hemoglobin and myoglobin. More than 2 billion people face Fe deficiency. Rice can be a potentially valuable source to supplement that mineral since it is staple food for two-thirds of the world’s population. To bring the nutritional level of the milled product up to that of the whole grain (brown), rice should be enriched with thiamin, niacin and iron. Thus we searched a possible allelic source from Heuristic or core rice set, which is derived from a total 24,368 rice germplasms, to increase the mineral content in rice varieties. The concentration and distribution of Fe in 137 accessions of core set of brown rice grain flour sample were determined by ICP-OES. The range of the concentration and distribution of Fe in 137 core accessions of brown rice grain were wide, from 0.088mg/L to 1.205mg/L, with mean 0.292mg/L. To examine Fe related genes, whole-genome resequencing data of 137 accessions of rice core set were analyzed by Genome Wide Associations Study (GWAS). Our result suggests that Fe determined by ICP-OES facilitates the evaluation of the differences in Fe composition for future rice breeding program

<P>Even in the face of physiological DNA damage or expression of the tumor suppressor protein p53, B cell CLL/lymphoma 6 (BCL6) increases proliferation and antagonizes apoptotic responses in B cells. BCL6 represses <I>TP53</I> transcription and also appears to inactivate p53 at the protein level, and additional findings have suggested negative mutual regulation between BCL6 and p53. Here, using <I>Bcl6</I><SUP>−/−</SUP> knockout mice, HEK293A and HCT116 <I>p53</I><SUP>−/−</SUP> cells, and site-directed mutagenesis, we found that BCL6 interacts with p53 and thereby inhibits acetylation of Lys-132 in p53 by E1A-binding protein p300 (p300), a modification that normally occurs upon DNA damage–induced cellular stress and whose abrogation by BCL6 diminished transcriptional activation of p53 target genes, including that encoding caspase-1. Conversely, we also found that BCL6 protein is degraded via p53-induced, caspase-mediated proteolytic cleavage, and the formation of a BCL6–p53–caspase-1 complex. Our results suggest that p53 may block oncogenic transformation by decreasing BCL6 stability via caspase-1 up-regulation, whereas aberrant BCL6 expression inactivates transactivation of p53 target genes, either by inhibiting p53 acetylation by p300 or repressing <I>TP53</I> gene transcription. These findings have implications for B cell development and lymphomagenesis.</P>

Attracting ferromagnetic forces between magnet and reaction rail provide the supporting force in Electromagnetic Suspension. Miniature maglev using permanent magnets and electromagnets is based on the idea to generate the nominal magnetic force by permanent magnets and superimpose the variable magnetic field required for stabilization by currents flowing through control windings in electromagnets. Permanent magnets with a high energy density have lower power losses with regard to supporting force and magnet weight. So the advantage of the maglev using electromagnets and permanent magnets is partially reduced by the power required to feed the remaining onboard supply system so that the overall onboard power is diminished as compared to that of the electromagnet. In this paper we proposed the how to design and control the miniature maglev and confirmed the feasibility of the levitation system using electromagnets and permanent magnets through the manufacturing the miniature maglev.
