        In order to develop the curriculum of the fishery department in the fisheries Jr. college, We have collected and analyzed the domistic and foreign data adquated to the fishey department under the international trend, also we gathered the opinion from the inquiring paper investigation and consultation to the industrial field, concerned college and graduate during the 6 month from September 1982. The fishery department curriculum in fisheries Jr. college will be industrialized with the concerned technics and knowledge in relation to speciality of maritime affairs. Accordingly, we have developed the adquate curriculum which is practical and can be cultivated the technician to adopt in the industrial society.

        사후분해 시체에 대한 법의학적 접근

        Disposal of a homicide victim by dismemberment is rare, but individual cases are on record in most major medicolegal departments. Recognition of postmortem mutilation may be of importance in the interpretation of certain murders committed by sexual perverts and other mentally deranged individuals and sometimes performed for the sole reason of easier disposal of the body. Postmortem dismemberment is usually readily recognizable as such; The edges of the injuries are dry and lack evidence of bleeding. The joints may be disarticulated without fracture, or the use of an axe or saw may be evident from examination of bones. Parallel horizontal or oblique furrows in the bone surface are caused by skipping of the saw prior to establishing depth. Such patterns on the bone may assist in identifying the particular saw involved. So we report 25 dismembered corpses that autopsied in National Institute of Scientific Investigation. This paper can help in attempting to establish not only the first criminal investigation steps but also the medicolegal approach methods in unidentified and dismembered deaths.

        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

        Linguistic Productivity and Chomskyan Grammar: A Critique

        춈스키의 언어 이론에 따르면, 인간은 무한한 수의 어법에 맞는 문장을 말하고 이해할 수 있다. 언어 창조성이라고 하는 이러한 능력은 이상화된 언어 능력을 전제한다. 사람들이 실제로 언어를 사용하여 의사 소통을 할 때는 단기 기억이나 주의 집중이라는 인지 능력의 한계로 인해 이러한 창조성에 많은 제약이 따른다. 하지만 언어의 창조성은 이러한 언어 실행 능력과는 관계없는 순수 언어 능력을 고려할 때 이해된다고 춈스키는 주장한다. 충분한 시간과 기억 능력이 보장된다면, 인간 언어능력이 제약될 이유가 없다. 언어 창조성은 마치 덧셈을 하는 인간의 능력과 비교된다. 국민학교 산수를 공부한 학생은 덧셈을 할 수 있다. 덧셈 능력이 인간의 마음에 자리를 잡으면 어떤 숫자를 놓고도 덧셈을 할 수 있다. 물론 실제로 엄청난 숫자를 덧셈하는 데는 문제가 많다. 하지만 충분한 시간과 연필과 종이가 있다면 원칙상 어떤 숫자를 놓고도 덧셈을 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 필자는 이러한 언어 능력이 필요 이상 이상화되었음을 중앙 삽입형 문장들을 고찰함으로써 지적하고자 한다. 중앙 삽입형 문장 (center embedded sentences) 또는 양파 문장 (onion sentences) 들은 이상화된 언어능력의 측면에서는 문법적일지 모르지만 실제로 사람들은 이 문장들을 거의 사용하고 있지 않으며 거의 이해하고 있지도 않는 문장들이다. 그 이유는, 춈스키에 의하면, 비언어적 인지 능력의 제약 때문이다. 기억력이나 주의 집중력이 모자라서 그런 문장을 잘 쓰지 않지만 그런 조건이 따라 주면 그런 문장들이 무엇을 뜻하는 지 다 알 수 있다는 것이다. 따라서 이 문법적인 문장을 사용하지 않는다는 것이 언어 창조성에 대한도전이 될 수 없다고 그는 주장한다. 필자는 이 문장들이 단순한 단기 기억이나 주의 집중의 문제가 아니라 실제로 인간 언어 능력의 제약을 보여 줄 수 있는 인지적 조건들을 보여 주고 있다고 생각한다. 따라서 인간의 언어 능력이 무한수의 문장을 구성하고 이해할 수 있다는 주장은 언어 능력의 인지적 제약을 고려하지 못한 주장이다. According to Chomskyan grammar, humans can generate and understand an unbounded number of grammatical sentences. Against the background of pure and idealized linguistic competence, this linguistic productivity is argued and understood. In actual utterances, however, there are many limitations of productivity but they are said to come from the general constraints on performances such as capacity of short term memory or attention. In this paper I discuss a problem raised against idealized productivity. I argue that linguistic productivity idealizes our linguistic competence too much. By separating idealized competence from the various constraints of performance, Chomskyan theorists can argue for unlimited productivity. However, the absolute distinction between grammar (pure competence) and parser (actual psychological processes) makes little sense when we explain the low acceptability(intelligibility) of center embedded sentences. Usually, the problem of center embedded sentence is explained in terms of memory shortage or other performance constraints. To explain the low acceptability, however, we need to assume specialized memory structure because the low acceptability occurs only with a specific type of syntactic pattern. 1 argue that this special memory structure should not be considered as a general performance constraint. It is a domain specific (specifically linguistic) constraints and an intrinsic part of human language processing. Recent development of Chomskyan grammar, i.e., minimalist approach seems to close the gap between pure competence and this type of specialized constraints. Chomsky's earlier approach of generative grammar focuses on end result of the generative derivation. However, economy principle (of minimalist approach) focuses on actual derivational processes. By having less mathematical or less idealized grammar, we can come closer to the actual computational processes that build syntactic structure of a sentence. In this way, we can have a more concrete picture of our linguistic competence, competence that is not detached from actual computational processes.

      • Inactivated Sendai-virus-mediated fusion improves early development of cloned bovine embryos by avoiding endoplasmic-reticulum-stress-associated apoptosis

        <P> Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) is a powerful tool, not only for producing cloned animals, but also in revealing various early developmental events. However, relatively little is known regarding the biological events and underlying mechanism(s) directly associated with early development of SCNT embryos. Here, we show that production of high-quality bovine SCNT blastocysts is dependent on the method used for fusion and the associated reduction in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. During fusion between the donor cell and the enucleated oocyte, electrofusion triggers spontaneous oocyte activation, accompanied by an increase in intracellular Ca2+ and improper nuclear remodelling. These events can be greatly reduced by the use of Sendai virus (SV)-mediated fusion. Moreover, SV-SCNT improves the blastulation rate and blastocyst quality, defined by the number and ratio of inner cell mass and trophectoderm cells in each blastocyst, in comparison with electrofusion-mediated SCNT (E-SCNT). Interestingly, expression of ER-stress-associated genes and blastomere apoptosis were significantly increased in E-SCNT embryos. These increases could be reversed by inhibition of ER stress or by using the SV-mediated fusion method. Collectively, these results indicate that SV-mediated fusion improves the developmental competence and quality of SCNT blastocysts, by reducing ER-stress-associated apoptosis. </P>

        Valproic acid enhances early development of bovine somatic cell nuclear transfer embryos by alleviating endoplasmic reticulum stress.

        <P>Despite the positive roles of histone deacetylase inhibitors in somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), few studies have evaluated valproic acid (VPA) and its associated developmental events. Thus, the present study was conducted to elucidate the effect of VPA on the early development of bovine SCNT embryos and the underlying mechanisms of action. The histone acetylation level of SCNT embryos was successfully restored by VPA, with optimal results obtained by treatment with 3mM VPA for 24h. Importantly, the increases in blastocyst formation rate and inner cell mass and trophectoderm cell numbers were not different between the VPA and trichostatin A treatment groups, whereas cell survival was notably improved by VPA, indicating the improvement of developmental competence of SCNT embryos by VPA. Interestingly, VPA markedly reduced the transcript levels of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress markers, including sXBP-1 and CHOP. In contrast, the levels of GRP78/BiP, an ER stress-alleviating transcript, were significantly increased by VPA. Furthermore, VPA greatly reduced cell apoptosis in SCNT blastocysts, which was further evidenced by the increased levels of the anti-apoptotic transcript Bcl-xL and decreased level of the pro-apoptotic transcript Bax. Collectively, these results suggest that VPA enhances the developmental competence of bovine SCNT embryos by alleviating ER stress and its associated developmental damage.</P>

      • Induction of autophagy during in vitro maturation improves the nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation of porcine oocytes

        <P> While a critical role of autophagy in mammalian early embryogenesis has been demonstrated, few studies have been conducted regarding the role of autophagy in in vitro maturation (IVM) of immature oocytes. In the present study we investigated the effect of rapamycin, a chemical autophagy inducer, on the nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation of porcine oocytes. Rapamycin treatment led to increased expression of LC3-II, an autophagy marker. Compared with the control group, as well as the 5 and 10 nM rapamycin treatment groups, the rate of MII oocyte production was higher in the 1 nM rapamycin treatment group, indicating improvement in nuclear maturation. In the analyses of cytoplasmic maturation, we found that the level of p34cdc2, a cytoplasmic maturation marker, and the monospermic fertilisation rate were higher in the 1 nM rapamycin treatment group than in the other groups. Moreover, the beneficial effect of 1 nM rapamycin on cytoplasmic maturation of MII oocytes was further evidenced by increases in blastocyst formation rate, total cell number and cell survival. In the blastocyst embryos, anti-apoptotic Bcl-xL transcript levels were elevated in the 1 nM rapamycin-treated group, whereas pro-apoptotic Bax transcript levels were decreased. Collectively, these results suggest that induction of autophagy during IVM contributes to enhancement of the nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation of porcine oocytes. </P>

        성장기 흰쥐에서 단백질 장기간 알코올 투여가 인슐린 분비능 및 감수성에 미치는 영향

        Background: This investigation was performed to examine the combined effects of protein malnutrition and chronic moderate amount of alcohol intake on insulin secretory capacity and sensitivity in growing rats. Methods: Weanling 4-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed low protein [5%, (wt/wt)] or control (C, 20%) diet from 4 to 12 weeks and alcohol (5 g/kg/d) or saline gavage from 8 to 12 weeks. All rats were divided into the 4 groups according to different diet protocols: group I (protein-deficient alcohol rats), group II (protein-deficient saline rats), group III (protein-sufficient alcohol rats), and group IV (protein-sufficient saline or control rats). At the age of 12 weeks, we determined the insulin secretory capacity and sensitivity in the 4 different diet groups. Results: The results are summarized as following; 1. Normal weight gain was nearly completely arrested in protein-deficient rats compared to control rats. In protein-sufficient rats, chronic alcohol intake decreased body weight gain. Pancreatic weight adjusted with body weight was not different among the 4 groups, but epididymal fat weight adjusted with body weight was decreased in group II compared to group IV. 2. Intraperitoneal glucose tolerance was improved in group I compared to the other groups. Insulin responses to glucose challenge were markedly decreased in group II compared to group IV, but not in group I. 3. Glucose disposal rate during euglycemic clamp test was diminished in group II compared to group IV, but there were no differences between group I and group IV. Glycogen synthase activities of skeletal muscle after 2 hour hyperinsulinemic state were not different among the 4 groups. 4. There were no differences of reserved insulin content of whole pancreas adjusted with pancreas weight among the 4 groups. 5. In light microscopic findings of pancreatic islets, sizes of islets, islet cells and nuclei were decreased in protein-deficient rats compared to control rats. However, the sizes of islet cells and nuclei were further decreased in group II compared to group I. Conclusion: These results suggest that impaired insulin secretion and decreased insulin sensitivity due to protein malnutrition can be restored by chronic, moderate amount of alcohol intake, but these beneficial effects may not be appeared in protein-sufficient state. Therefore, the chronic alcohol intake differently influences glucose metabolism according to individual nutritional status, and further studies for the effects of alcohol intake in lean diabetic patients are required to extrapolate these results in human.
