      • Consumer Recognition Survey for Establishing the Reasonable Expiration Dates of Health Functional Foods

        This study investigated consumers` recognition on shelf life of health functional foods to set up their rational expiration date. For this study 107 male and female adults aged 20 to 59 years were randomly selected as major consumers of health functional foods. And their data were analyzed with SPSS 17.0. The questionnaire included questions asking a consumer`s recognition on the shelf life of health functional foods and how to treat health function food passing its shelf life. In this study, the consumers were found to pay attentions considerably to the shelf life. But most of them did not know an accurate meaning of the shelf life of health functional food and mistook it for expiry date. In addition, the consumers doubted safety of health functional foods passing the shelf life. Therefore, education for consumers about an accurate meaning of the shelf life was needed. The results of this study were considered to be helpful to set up a reasonable expiration date for health functional food.

      • 일부 흡연 대학생의 지각된 스트레스와 흡연실태에 대한 상관관계 연구

        In spite of the seriousness of smoking harm has been developed these days. the increase of national smoking rate and that the people in the twenties are especially leading the rise of national smoking rate is an important issue of national health. Smoking of the university students can occur health problem and cause loss of manpower and expenses in their social activity period. So then the actual state for prevention of smoking and development of a program to prohibit smoking has to be seized urgently and starting with the study of the realities of university students, the effort to find a related fluent of smoking has to be studied. Related to this, the purpose of this study is to seize the general characteristics of smoking university students and to find out the relationship between perceived stress and smoking status among smoking university students. In addition, by collating the relationship between perceived stress and smoking status among smoking university students we have the purpose to furnish the basal data of stress care, the best way to cope with stress through group training and the plan for nursing implementation to decrease the smoking rate. For this study, a survey was conducted for 204 smoking university students of 13 universities in Seoul from 9th of May to 16th of May, 2003. The collected data was analyzed by t-test, Pearson Correlation and ANOVA in the statistical packages SPSS/PC. Major findings of this study are as follows; 1. Of the 204 respondents 85.4% of them were male and 14.6% of them were female. The average age of the sample was 23.19 years old and 41.8% of them were in senior, 21.4% in junior, 16.9% in sophomore, 19.9% in freshman grade. The major motivation to start smoking was 'because of curiosity'(33.8%) and the first smoking experience was at 'senior high school' (41.9%) and at 'college' (41.9%). 2 The highest scored stress factor of smoking university students were stresses about school work. 3. 72.7% had experience to quit smoking at least one or more times. Most of the reason to keep on smoking was 'short will to quit'(51.0%) and the smoking place was usually at 'school' (41.4%). Most respondents for the number ofsmoking friends were '5 people and above' (73.2%). 4. There was a negative relationship between the general characteristics and the entire perceived stress, however, there was a positive relationship between the general characteristics and the perceived stress in 4 categories which is 'sex distinction', 'major of study', 'residence form' and' inmate'. 5. There was a negative relationship between the general characteristics and the entire smoking status, however, there was a positive relationship between the general characteristics and the smoking status in 2 categories which is 'presence of hobby' and 'number of smoking friends'. 6. There was a negative relationship between the perceived stress and the smoking status. Through this study we have seized the relationship between the general characteristics, perceived stress and the smoking status of smoking university students. There was a positive relationship between some of the general characteristics with the perceived stress and the smoking status of smoking university students. Also there was a negative relationship between the perceived stress and the smoking status.

        후두적출자의 의사소통 태도

        본 연구는 후두적출자의 주된 발성방법과 후두적출 경과 시기에 따른 의사소통 태도를 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구의 대상은 성인 남자 55명으로 후두암으로 인한 후두적출자들로 구성되었다. 이들에게 실시한 의사소통 태도 설문지는 Erickson의 의사소통 태도 척도-수정판(Modified Erickson Scale of Communication Attitudes: S-24)을 본 연구에 맞게 수정 보완하여 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 첫째, 주된 발성방법에 따라서는 인공후두기 사용자와 식도발성자간의 의사소통 태도에 차이가 없었다. 둘째, 후두적출 경과 시기에 따라 10년 초과된 후두적출자들과 10년 이하의 후두 적출자들 간의 의사소통 태도에 차이가 없었다. 그러므로 이들의 의사소통 태도의 긍정적 태도를 증가시키기 위하여 다양한 방법을 활용하고 습득하여 이들의 의사소통 능력을 빠르게 재습득 하여 긍정적인 의사소통 능력을 가질 수 있도록 해야 한다. The purpose of this study was to determine laryngectomee's communication attitude. 55 laryngectomees, who were in the range of 40 years old to 80 years old participated in the study. Communication attitude measurements were taken by S-24(Modified Erickson Scale of Communication Attitudes). The results showed as follows: First, score of laryngectomees with artificial larynx and esophageal speakers were no significant. Second, score of laryngectomees with over 10 years after latyngectomy and 10 years after latyngectomy were no significant.

        건강보험공단 건강검진과 자비 건강검진 수검자간의 만족도 비교

        Backgrouds : This study was performed to compare the satisfaction levels for health examination programs provided by between the Korea National Health Insurance Corporation (KNHIC) and private healthcare organizations in Korea. We investigated factors associated with the satisfaction level for the KNHIC health examination. Also, factors explaining for the additional receipt of private healthcare organization's examination were identified. Methods : A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted in June 2004 with 250 beneficiaries of the KNHIC industrial workers' program and 100 beneficiaries of the KNHIC selfemployed program. A total of 297 completed the questionnaire, including 213 (85.2%) and 84 (84.0%) for each insurance program. Ten questions measuring satisfaction levels for each examination program were rated on a scale ranging from 1 (strongly unsatisfied) to 5 (strongly satisfied). Results : Among the subjects receiving both examinations, the mean satisfaction level for the KNHIC examination (3.07) was significantly lower than that for the private healthcare organization's examination (3.50) (p<0.05). The KNHIC examination showed lower satisfaction for all of the 10 items than the counterpart. In particular, the KNHIC examination had the scores of lower than 3.0 for the items reflecting post-examination management services. According to the multiple regression analysis results, the satisfaction for the KNHIC examination was positively associated with the positive attitude toward health examination(•‚=0.38, p<0.00). The logistic regression results showed that the likelihood of receiving the private healthcare organization's examination in addition to the KNHIC examination increases as the respondents were less healthier(OR=0.29, 95% CI = 0.10¢¶0.84), the satisfaction level for the KNHIC examination decreased(OR=0.46, 0.28¢¶0.75) or the attitude toward health examination was more positive (OR=2.56, 1.31¢¶5.12). Conclusion : The relatively low satisfaction level for both examination programs suggests that there's ample room for improvement of health examination services in Korea. The negative association between additional receipt of private healthcare organization's examination and satisfaction level for the KNHIC examination implies that the improvement of the satisfaction for the KNHIC examination would help to reduce the national expenditure spent on the additional examination.

      • PFAPA (Periodic Fever, Aphthous Stomatitis, Pharyngitis, and Cervical Adentis) 증후군 1예

        PFAPA (Periodic Fever, Aphthous stomatitis, Pharyngitis, and cervical Adenitis) syndrome has characteristic features of an early onset, periodicity (interval <4 weeks), and a brisk rising high fever (>39℃) of 3 to 6 days' duration without signs of infection. An 18-year-old male was admitted for high fever, sore throat, headache, and abdominal pain. He had suffered from periodic fevers associated with pharyngitis and cervical adenitis for 14 years without any evidence of infection. The fever recurred approximately every 4 weeks lasting 4 to 7 days with intervening asymptomatic periods. Physical examination was unremarkable except for slightly injected tonsils. Most laboratory tests including CBC were normal except for elevation of Creactive protein level (3.47 mg/dL). Bacteriologic and radiologic studies were negative. The fever was spontaneously subsided in 6 days. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of PFAPA syndrome in Korea. (Korean J Infect Dis 33:219∼222, 2001)

        김치 starter 용으로 분리한 효모의 동정

        김치발효로 인해 생성되는 유기산 중 젖산과 초산을 탄소원으로 이용하며, 통기적 성질을 가지며, 어느 정도 저온성(10℃)과 내산성(pH 3.2)의 성질을 갖는 11균주를 김치로부터 순수분리하였다. 이들 분리 균주는 형태적, 배양적 및 생리적 특성에 의해 진균류에 속하는 3종류의 속으로 분류되었다. 첫번째로 YK-6과 YK-10 균주는 Debaryomyces속으로 분류되었으며, 이 중 YK-10 균주는 Debaryomyces coudertii로 동정되었고, 두번째로 YK-11, YH-4 및 균주는 Pichia속으로 분류되었다. 이 중 YK-11 균주는 Pichia media, YH-4 균주는 Pichia chambardii, 그리고 YH-5 Pichia haplophilia로 동정되었다. 세번째로 YK-12, YK-17, YK-18, YK-19, YK-20 및 YH-3 균주는 Saccharomyces속으로 분류되었으며, 이 중 YK-19 균주는 Saccharomyces fermentati로 동정되었다. 분리균주의 산 이용성을 실험하기 위하여 최소배지 및 젖산과 초산의 유기산 첨가 배지에서 생육도를 측정하였는데 균분리시와 틀리는 미량금속이 함유되지 않은 최소배지에서도 모두 자랐다. 특히 Saccharomyces sp. YK-17와 Saccharomyces fermentati YK-19가 생육상태가 비교적 좋았으며, 두 균주 모두 젖산 0.3%과 초산 0.6% 첨가시는 낮은 생육을 보였다. 이중 YK-19 균주는 25℃에서 보다 10℃에서 더 잘 자라는 저온성 균주로 판명되었다. The eleven strains, which could be used lactic and acetic acids as carbon sources, were isolated from kimchi and identified; the strains were facultative microorganisms which could be grown at low temperature (10℃) and around pH 3.2. As results of morphological, biochemical and physiological tests, 5 species of 3 genera were identified as Debaryomyces coudertii, Pichia media, Pichia chambardii, Pichia haplophilia and Saccharomyces fermentati. Each strain was grown in basal media. In acidic resistance and acid utiliztion test, Saccharomyces sp. YK-17 and Saccharomyces fermentati YK-19 were grown well in basal and YM media containing 0.3% lactic acid. And two strains were grown in basal and YM media containing 0.3% lactic acid and 0.6% acetic acid. Since strain YK-19 was grown better at 10℃ than that in 25℃, strain YK-19 was known to be a psychrophilic strain.
