The aim of this paper is to investigate problems related to translation of Korean film titles into Russian. Titles play an important role in representing a text or a film, providing readers/audience general information as well as attracting attention. The translated titles can also have influence on the acceptance of films in the target society. This study analyzes 220 Korean film titles and their translations in Russian, focusing on various types of methods used in translation. Analysis shows four methods are used, which are borrowing, literal translation, partial shift, and full shift. Some former studies on this issue will be reviewed, and four methods of translation will be analyzed to evaluate implications of translated titles on understanding of Korean films in Russia. Finally the influence of English titles on Russian translation will also be revealed.

The aim of this paper is to investigate problems related to quotation of Korean discourses in Russian news articles from the perspective of translation. Assuming that the translation process is inevitably necessary for quoting different cultures, this study analyses the direct quotation of speeches of President Park Geun Hye in Russian mass media. Some former studies on this issue were reviewed, and three speeches by the Korean President as source texts and 87 Russian articles containing direct quotations on presidential discourses as target texts were analyzed, focusing on their units, types and contents. Finally, the reasons for transformation of sources texts in target news articles were examined.

쓰레기 매립지 가스 포집관에서 가스조성에 따른 계측오차의 최소화

본 연구 목적은 계측저항이 없는 열선유속계를 이용하여 매립지 가스의 유량을 산정할 때 가스 조성에 의해 발생되는 계측오차를 최소화할 수 있는 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. Rotor meter와 가스조성 밀도를 이용하여 산정한 관 중심유속을 계측저항이 없는 열선유속계를 이용하여 구한 관 중심유속을 비교함으로서 계측오차를 측정하였다. 실험결과 열선 유속계와 rotor meter를 이용한 매립지 가스유속 계측오차의 최소화 방안을 통하여 매립지 가스유량의 오차 범위를 10% 이내로 최소화 할수 있는 것으로 조사되었다.

Clinicopathologic Characteristics of Trop Family Proteins (Trop-2 and EpCAM) in Gastric Carcinoma

Purpose: Trop family proteins, including epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) and Trop-2, have garnered attention as potential therapeutic and diagnostic targets for various malignancies. This study aimed to elucidate the clinicopathological significance of these proteins in gastric carcinoma (GC) and to reinforce their potential as biomarkers for patient stratification in targeted therapies. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemical (IHC) analyses of EpCAM and Trop-2 were performed on GC and precancerous lesions, following rigorous orthogonal validation of the antibodies to ensure specificity and sensitivity. Results: Strong membranous staining (3+) for Trop-2 was observed in 49.3% of the GC cases, whereas EpCAM was strongly expressed in almost all cases (93.2%), indicating its widespread expression in GC. A high Trop-2 expression level, characterized by an elevated H-score, was significantly associated with intestinal type by Lauren classification, gastric mucin type, presence of lymph node metastasis, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positivity, and Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-positivity. Patients with a high Trop-2 expression level exhibited poorer survival outcomes on univariate and multivariate analyses. High EpCAM expression levels were prevalent in differentiated histologic type, microsatellite instability–high, and EBV-negative cancer, and were correlated with high densities of CD3 and CD8 T cells and elevated combined positive score for programmed death-ligand 1. Conclusions: These results highlight the differential expression of Trop-2 and EpCAM and their prognostic implications in GC. The use of meticulously validated antibodies ensured the reliability of our IHC data, thereby offering a robust foundation for future therapeutic strategies targeting Trop family members in GC.

This paper purports to study the problem of titles in translation of <The Great Escape>, written by Angus Deaton, the professor-economist of Princeton University. The first Korean edition of <The Great Escape> was published in 2014, and removed from sale in October 2015. This edition was regarded as containing changes and omissions from the English text, not accurately reflecting the original work. In November 2015 Hankyung BP, the Korean publisher of this book released a new edition. This current study focuses on the translation of titles, which were also changed or omitted in the first edition. Titles have strong influence on the understanding of the whole text, as they frame the facts, concealing or highlighting certain aspects of these facts. The translation of titles, in this respect, has great importance on attracting readers’ attentions and leading them to the way, where the author wants. The translated titles can affect the acceptance of the translation in the target society. Some former studies on this issue will be reviewed, and changed titles of the first edition willbe analyzed to discover the impact of title translation in the understanding of this book in Korean target culture.

This paper aims to study the methods of knowledge mediation that maybe used in reproducing the original texts written for Russian readersinto their translations for Korean readers. The object of analysis isRussia Focus published jointly by Russia Beyond The Headlines(RBTH) and JoongAng Ilbo in South Korea since September 2012. Russia Focus is a current affairs journal that attempts, for the first time in South Korea to translate and deliver the articles originally written for Russian readers, that depict various changes happening in Russia, to Korean readers. In Chapter 2, the way of combination between knowledge and information as observed in communicationamongst people, and its correlation with translation would be discussed,focusing on the relevance theory. The detailed analysis method spresented in Chapter 3 are largely made up of two parts. One is thecomparison between the original and translated texts, and the other isthe research into actual demand of translators and readers for giving additional information. To compare the original and translated texts, thearticles published in Russia Focus are matched with their translations to extract the parts where additional information is given, and they arepresented in two ways according to the contents and translation methods. To find out the demand for the necessity of giving additional information, a survey is conducted for potential translators and readers,and the outcome is put together. Finally, in Chapter 4, the findings ofboth analyses are combined in order to discuss and present specific translation methods required for Korean readers to actively digest the articles written for Russian readers.

Switzerland guarantees a system that allows its people to express and validate their opinion on relevant laws through the submission of a referendum when deemed necessary. In 2021, both chambers (the National Council and the Council of States) imposed an obligation for streaming platforms to invest in local Swiss cinema. With this new law, not only video streaming service providers based in Switzerland but also those abroad would have to re-invest 4% of their gross revenues generated in Switzerland in Swiss independent film creation. In addition, the law introduced a quota system requiring at least 30% of the offered catalogue to be made up of European cinema productions. In May 2022, a referendum against this draft bill was initiated by the referendum committee due to consumer opposition As a result, more than half of the amendment voted in favour of the amendment, and the revised film law will come into force in 2024. In the recommendation, the referendum committee expresses its opinion against the law and stipulates whether it originally was the logic of regulatory approval by the regulators and against regulations imposed by consumers. As a result, consumers’ benefits and welfare, which remained up to now unclear, can be verified through actual cases, and the regulatory differences for the same service provider in Switzerland and in Korea can be highlighted. We examine the implications of such platform regulations by looking at Switzerland, which regulates the obligation to reinvest in the local film industry to protect cultural diversity and content comptetitiveness, and Korea, which requires the obligation to stabilize services for network quality.
