      • Haemophilus influenzae 티올 과산화효소의 특성

        Haemophilus influenzae HI0571 protein that shows homology to E. coli thiol peroxidase uses yeast thioredoxin system as an electron donor[Hwang. Y. S., Chae. H. Z., and Kim. K. (2000) J. Biochem. Mol. Biol. 33, 514~518]. The microorganism has two open, reading frames. HI1158 and HI0084, showing homology to a thioredoxin reductase and a thioredoxin, respectively. Both proteins consisting thioredoxin system were expressed in E. coli, and then the proteins were subsequently purified. The H. influenzae thioredoxin system showed 5.5’-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) reduction activity. H, influenzae HI0751 protein, thiol peroxidase was characterized using the thioredoxin system as an electron donor. The thiol peroxidase showed the thioredoxin dependent peroxidase activity. And glutamine synthetase protection activity of thiol peroxidase against Thiol/Fe<sup>3+</sup>/O₂ system was enhanced by addition of the thioredoxin. An antioxidant function of thiol peroxidase in intact cells was demonstrated by the observation that E. coli cells overexpressed with H. influenzae thiol peroxidase were less sensitive to growth inhibition by alkyl hydroperoxides.

        Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique으로 근관충전시 치근면 온도상승 분석

        This study was conducted to evaluate the temperature rise on the root surface while the root canal is being obturated using continuous wave of condensation technique. Maxillary central incisor was prepared for repeated canal obturation. Ten thermocouples (Omega Engineering Inc., Stanford, USA) were placed at 1mm increment from the anatomical root apex. The real temperature of Buchanan plugger was recorded before insertion into the root canal. The root canal was obturated with continuous wave of condensation technique as described by Buchanan and the root surface temperature was recorded during obturation at 150℃, 200℃, 250℃ and 300℃ temperature settings of System B HeatSource (Model 1005, Analytic technologies, Redmond, WA, USA). After completion of the temperature recording, the dentinal-cementum thickness at each sites was measured. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Scheffe's test and linear regression test. The results were as follows. 1. When the temperature was set at 150℃, 200℃, 250℃ and 300℃ on the digital display of System B HeatSource, the real temperature of the plugger at the 1mm point from the tip revealed 130.82±2.96℃ 158.00±5.26℃, 215.93±6.91℃ and 249.88±3.65℃ respectively. 2. The position of 8 mm from the anatomical apex showed the highest temperature increase at each temperature settings and it was significantly higher than those of other positions (p<0.01). The temperature rise was constantly increased toward coronal portion from apex of the root. 3. The maximum temperature increase on the root surface was 2.37±0.09℃ at 150℃ setting, 3.11±0.12℃ at 200℃ setting, 3.93±0.09℃ at 250℃ setting and 5.69±0.15℃ at 300℃ setting respectively. These results suggest that it be relatively kind to the supporting tissues of the root that the root canal is obturated using continuous wave of condensation technique at 150℃, 200℃, 250℃ and 300℃ temperature settings on digital temperature display of System B HeatSource.

      • Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique으로 근관충전시 치근면 온도상승 분석

        This study was conducted to evaluate safety to the supporting tissues of the root while the root canal is obturated using continuous wave of condensation technique. A extracted maxillary central incisor was prepared for repeated canal obturation. After conventional access opening, working length was then established to the point 1㎜ from anatomical root apex. The root canal was prepared with GT rotary Ni-Ti file (Dentsply Maillefer, Switzerland). Five thermocouples (Onega Engineering Inc., USA) were placed at 2㎜ increments on one side beginning 1㎜ from the anatomical root apex and the other five thermocouples at 2㎜ increments on the other side beginning 2㎜ from it. For obturation, a nonstandardized medium size gutta-percha cone and a ML Buchanan plugger (Analytic technologies, USA) were selected. After drying of root canal, AH 26 root canal sealer (Dentsply Detrey, Germany) was applied on the wall of the root canal. Baseline temperature was measured on the root surface. The ML size plugger was preheated for 2seconds and then the real temperature of it was recorded before insertion into the root canal. The root canal was obturated with continuous wave of condensation technique as described by Buchanan. The root surface temperature was recorded during obturation and it was performed ten times at each of the following temperature settings: 150℃, 200℃, 250℃ and 300℃.         Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common human malignant neoplasm, accounting for 75% of all non-melanoma skin cancer. The incidence of BCC is strongly correlated with sun exposure as well as older age. Therefore, the vast majority of BCCs is observed in elderly patients on the sun-exposed skin of the head and neck with a frequency of more than 80%. BCC is very rare on sun-protected skin such as the perianal and genital regions and other etiologic factors must be considered in these cases. Although the pathogenesis of vulvar BCC is unclear, early diagnosis is very important. Because BCC in these areas sometimes seems innocuous, it is recommended that a biopsy of all suspect lesions be performed. We report a woman with BCC of the vulva treated with wide local resection and reviews the literatures on this subject.

        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

        방사성 폐기물 시멘트 고화체로 부터의 ?? 및 ?? 용출특성 연구

        방사성폐기물 처리, 처분의 안정성 평가를 위하여 방사성 고화체에서 용출되는 137Cs과 90Sr의 방사능 용출율과 누적용출분율을 계측·분석하여 시멘트를 사용한 방사성 고화체에서 Cs+과 Sr++의 용출특성을 조사하였다. 모의방사성 폐액의 몰농도, 시멘트의 종류, 첨가물질 및 붕산농도 등을 변화시키면서 sodium silicate법과 중화법으로 원주형 시멘트 고화제를 제작하였다. 여기에서 가압경수로형 원자력 발전소의 모의 농축폐액의 시멘트 고화체로부터 용출연구는 IAEA의 추천방법에 따라서 수행되었다. 실험결과는 대부분 이미 보고된 연구자료들과 잘 일치하고 있으나 수밀성 시멘트 고화체에서는 상당히 높은 방사능 용출율을 보여주고 있음으로써 방사성 폐기를 고화체에 그 사용이 적합하지 않음을 알게 된다. For the safety assessment of radwaste treatment and disposal, the leaching characteristics of Cs++ and Sr++ from the cement-solidified radwastes was investigated by means of the survey and analysis of the activity leach rate and cumulative leach fraction of 137Cs and 90Sr leaching from solidified radwastes. The cylindrical cement-solidified samples were made by the sodium silicate method and neutralization method changing the mole density of simulated liquid radwaste, type of cement, adding material and concentration of boric acid. The leaching study was carried out by the method using simulated PWR concentrated liquid radwaste solidified in cement that had been processed following the recommendations of IAEA. All the experimental results are in well accordance with the research data reported previously, but the watertight cement-solidified radwastes show rather high leach rate of radioactivity. It is learned, therefore, that the watertight cement is not adequate as the material for the solidified radwastes.

        한국인 정신분열병과 HLA-DRB1 대립유전자의 관련성

        연구목적: 유전이 정신분열병의 중요한 원인이라는 것은 널리 인정되어 왔다. 본 연구는 한국인 정신분열병과HLA-DRB1 유전자좌와의 관련성을 알아보고 외국인 대상의 보고들과 비교함으로써 한국인 정신분열병의 유전적 특성을 밝히고자 시행하였다. 방법: 정신분열병 환자 70명을 대상으로 HLA-DRB1 대립유전자를 고해상도 수준까지 분석하였다. 저해상도 수준의 HLA-DR결과는 정상 한국인 2,000명의 연구 보고와 비교하였으며 고해상도 수준의 HLA-DRB1 결과는 정상 한국인 229명의 연구 보고와 비교하였다. 결과: 저해상도 수준에서는 HLA-DR11이 정신분열병 환자군에서 9.0%, 정산인에서는 3.8%의 빈도를 보여 환자군에서 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 빈도를 보였으며(p=0.005), 고해상도 수준에서는 HLA-DRB1*1101이 환자군에서 9.0%로 정상인의 1.8%보다 유의하게 높은 빈도를 보였다(p<0.001). 결론: 본 연구에서는 한국인 정신분열병과 HLA-DR11(HLA-DRB1*1101)이 양적 상관관계를 보여 백인에서 DR4와 부정적 상관관계를 보인 결과나 일본인에서 DR1(DRB1*0101)과 양적 상관관계를 보인 결과와 상이하였다. 이러한 한국인 정신분열병 환자의 유전적 특성은 가족연구 혹은 더 많은 수의 환자를 대상으로 한 관련연구를 통하여 재확인되어야 할 것이다. 중심단어:정신분열병·HLA-DRB1·관련연구. Objective: A genetic predisposition is widely accepted in schizophrenia. This study was intended to fine any association of HLA-DRB1 alleles with korean schizophrenics and thereby compare the results of other ethni groups. Method: The subjects were 70 unrelated Korean patients. Low and high resolution typing of HLA-DRB1 alleles were performed. The comparison groups were 2,000 unrelated healthy Koreans for low resolution HLA-DR and 229 unrelated healthy Koreans for HLA-DRB1 alleles. Results: Gene frequencies of HLA-DR11(patients 9.0%, healthy control 3.8%, p=0.005) and HLA-DRB1*1101(patients 9.0%, healthy control 1.8%, p<0.001) were significantly higher in Korean schizophrenics. Conclusion: The frequency of HLA-DR11(HLA-DRB1*1101) is significantly higher in Korean schizophrenics than in healthy Koreans. HLA-DR4 and HLA-DR1, which were known to be associated with Caucasian and Japanese schizophrenics, respectively, did not show statistical association with Korean schizophrenics. This association need to be reassured though further studies with families or association study with larger numbers of subjects. KEY WORDS:Schizophrenia·HLA-DRB1·Association study.

        노숙인 정책의 전개과정과 제도개선 방향

        노숙인은 한국사회의 최빈곤층으로서, 이들의 존재는 경제상황 악화로 인한 일시적 현상이 아니라 한국사회의 구조적 문제에서 파생된 필연적 결과이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 노숙인은 지금까지 독립적인 복지서비스 제공의 대상에서 제외되어 왔다. 본고에서는 2003년 7월 국회에서 사회복지사업법의 일부가 개정됨으로써 노숙인이 법적으로 사회복지사업의 공식적 테두리 내에 포함된 것을 계기로 노숙인을 독립된 복지서비스 제공의 대상계층으로 제도화하기 위한 방안을 도출했다는 데 그 의의가 있다. 이를 요약하면 첫째, 단기적 과제로서 노숙인과 부랑인을 동일범주의 개념으로 재정의하고 기존의 부랑인복지시설 설치·운영에 관한 규칙의 내용을 훨씬 뛰어넘는 대폭적인 보완방향을 제시하였다. 들패, 장기적 과제로서 노숙인 문제는 빈곤이라는 사회구조적 원인으로부터 파생된 결과라는 점에서 국가가 책임져야 할 몫이라는 관점에서 노숙인 보호를 위한 독립법안의 필요성을 도출하고 그 방향을 제시하였다. Problems of the homeless, the poorest class in Korea, are not temporary ones resulted from economic downturns, but persistent ones resulted from structural problems of the society. Nonetheless, the homeless have been excluded from social welfare programs. Given that in July 2003 the social welfare act was amended to include the homeless as qualified for social welfare programs, this study suggests a way of institutionalizing their status as an independent group entitled for their own welfare programs. In sum, for a short-term approach this study suggests that with the homeless being redefined as equivalent to the Boo-rang-in (the hobo), the current rules on the institutions for the Boo-rang-in be amended substantially to address problems of the homeless. It also discusses what changes need to be made. For a long-term approach, this study emphasizes the need of an act focused on the homeless since problems of the homeless have been caused by poverty, a structural problem of the society.
