교사 지명 과학영재아들의 개방적 탐구 상황에서의 과학적 문제 발상 특성

The purpose of this study was to investigate scientific attitude and characteristics of scientific problem discovery of science gifted children by teacher nomination in situation of open-ended inquiry. The subjects of this study were 28 students, the members of the Science Education Center for Gifted Youth at Pusan National University(SECGY, PNU) in 1999 and 2000, who participated in the field trip of Kyoungju museum. Bell of King Song-Dok, Wooden Boat, a Half Moon Stone Knives and other cultural assets in Kyongju museum were selected as open-ended investigation materials. The research results are as follows: Science gifted children by teacher nomination generally got good grades in positiveness, cooperation and patience in questionnaire research for scientific attitude. During the open-ended investigation, many students showed following special behaviors. 1) Various and frequent high level questions. 2) They devoted themselves to their investigation for long time(three or four hours). 3) The followings were discovered from the students' reports after investigation; a) answering with an expert terms and scientific knowledge above their grade. b) originality in the contents and forms. c) task tenacity.

There is increasing demand by cleft patients for improvement in their esthetic appearance and occlusion. Cleft lip and palate deformoty is a multifaceted problem. It is important to consider the underlying skeleton of the face as well as the covering soft tissue. With proper presurgical planing such as photographic, cephalmetric and dental cast analysis, the two jaw osteotomy and other procedures were performed simultaneously in 6 post-cleft deformity cases. We improved their facial appearance and occlusion. Their acceptance and satisfaction are exceptionally high.
카드뮴의 血液內 ALAD 活性沮害作用에 對한 마늘의 抑制效果에 關한 試驗管內實驗

It has been already reported through animal(albino rat) experiments that Korean garlic containing abundant amount of thiol compounds such as -SH and -S-S- radicals, has the effects of reducing heavy metals and consequently improving the histopathological changes 'in some organs in case of heavy metal poisoning with cadmium and mercury. However, the mechanism of such effects produced in human body by the garlic has yet to be revealed. The hypothesis of this study is that garlic may bind with cadmium and render cadmium inactive before producing toxic effects in tissues. Therefore. to examine the binding action of garlic with the heavy metal, cadmium, garlic extracts and garlic ingredient, allyldisulfide, were first mixed prior to reacting the mixture with various concentrations of cadmium in human blood specimens, in vitro, and activities of ALAD in blood were observed. The same procedure was done with penicillamine, a chelating agent used to treat heavy metal poisoning clinically, to compare with the effect of garlic. The results are as follows: 1. While the ALAD activities of 0.01, 0.05, 0.1 mMoles of cadmium in blood were 17~33% of the normal one, those of cadmium reacted with garlic extract were 33~68% of the normal one. Consequently, the latter showed 15~35% increase of activity. The data shows the possibility that some part of cadmium was inactivated by garlic, by the fact that the ALAD activity of 0.01 mMole cadmium and that of 0.1 mMole cadmium with garlic extract were nearly the same. 2. In case of allyldisulfide, the suppressive effect in the inhibitory action of cadmium on the ALAD activity in blood was also observed; the potency of effect was lower than that of garlic extract. 3. Compared with penicillamine, the effect of garlic was 1.2 times that of penicillamine, and that of allyldisulfide was similar to that of penicillamine.

Complementary DNA encoding chloroplast outer envelope membrane protein (OEP) from the halophyte Salicornia herbacea has been cloned and sequenced. The full length cDNA is 596 bp and encodes a polypeptide of 91 amino acid residues with a molecular mass of 8.9 kDa. The expression level of ShOEP increased by salt, drought and ABA treatments. ShOEP expression was largely induced in roots and shoots by high salts. The biological function of ShOEP was examined by yeast complementation. ShOEP can suppress Na+ sensitivity of yeast mutant (cnbΔ) in the presence of salt. These results suggest that ShOEP is a salt inducible gene and may have functions in the regulation of plant salt stress.

Cytokinins are essential plant hormones that play crucial roles in various aspects of plant growth and development. To better understand the molecular mechanisms of cytokinin action, we identified cytokinin related proteins by a proteomic approach. Proteins extracted from control and trans-zeatin treated Arabidopsis seedlings were separated and analyzed by two dimensional gel analysis. Differentially expressed protein spots were identified with peptide mass fingerprinting based on matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry and database searching. We obtained ten up-regulated and one down-regulated proteins upon t-zeatin treatment. The expression of the following proteins was induced; pollen allergen like protein, L-ascorbate peroxidase, tetrapyrrole methylase family protein, SGT1 protein homolog, disease resistance related protein, maternal embryogenesis control protein, paxneb related protein, gluthathione S-transferase and IAA amino acid hydrolase homolog.

The composition and the microstructure of the Ag-Cu alloy electrodeposits electroplated in Succinimide bath were investigated varying the electrolysis conditions such as bath composition, current density and additive agents etc. The cathode overpotential increased with the increase of Succinimide concentration and current density ratio in the bath. The Ag content of the alloy deposits decreased with the increase of current density and pH and temperature in the bath. The optimum condition for 78wt.%Ag-22wt.%Cu code position alloy is an follows : pH10(adjusted by NH_4OH), 0.03M AgNO_3, 0.27M Cu(NO_3)_2 3H_2O, 0.5M Succinimide in bath and 3.5A/dm^2∼5.5A/dm^2 current density.

<P>Self-assembly of soft materials attracts keen interest for patterning applications owing to its ease and spontaneous behavior. We report the fabrication of nano grooves using sublimation and recondensation of liquid crystal (LC) materials. First, well-aligned smectic LC structures are obtained on the micron-scale topographic patterns of the microchannel; then, the sublimation and recondensation process directly produces nanogrooves having sub-200-nm scale: The entire process can be completed in less than 30 min. After it is replicated using an ultraviolet-curable polymer, our platform can be used as an alignment layer to control other guest LC materials.</P>

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.
