Previously, we reported the biochemical properties of RGAl that is expressed in Escherichia coli(Seo et al., 1997). The activities of RGAl that hydrolyzes and binds guanine nucleotide were dependent on the MgCl_(2) concentration. The steady state rate constant (k_(cat)) for GTP hydrolysis of RGAl at 2 mM MgCl_(2) was 0.0075±0.0001 min^(-1). Here, we examined the effects of pH and cations on the GTPase activity. The optimum pH at 2mM MgCl_(2) was approximately 6.0; whereas, the pH at 2 mM NH_(4)Cl was approximately 4.0. The result from the cation dependence on the GTPase (guanosine 5`-triphosphatase) activity of RGAl under the same condition showed that the GTP hydrolysis rate (k_(cat)=0.0353 min^(-1)) under the condition of 2mM NH_(4)Cl at pH 4.0 was the highest. It corresponded to about 3.24-fold of the k_(cat) value of 0.0109 min^(-1) in the presence of 2mM MgCl_(2) at pH 6.0.
Effects of electroacupuncture on oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic cold hypersensitivity in rats

This study investigated whether and how electroacupuncture (EA) attenuates cold hypersensitivity (allodynia) in a rat model of oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic pain. Cold allodynia [evaluated by immersing the tail into cold water (4 A degrees C) and measuring the withdrawal latency] was induced 3 days after an oxaliplatin administration (6 mg/kg, i.p.). EA stimulation (2/100 Hz, 0.3-ms pulse duration, 0.2-0.3 mA) was delivered to ST36 acupoint or non-acupoint for 20 min. Low-frequency (2 Hz) EA at ST36 relieved cold allodynia more effectively than high-frequency EA at ST36 or low-frequency EA at non-acupoint. Naloxone (opioid antagonist, 2 mg/kg, i.p.) completely blocked such EA-induced anti-allodynia, whereas phentolamine (alpha-adrenergic antagonist, 2 mg/kg, i.p.) did not. Moreover, plasma beta-endorphin levels significantly increased right after the end of EA and subsequently decreased. These results indicate that low-frequency EA at ST36 in rats has a marked relieving effect on oxaliplatin-induced cold allodynia that is mediated by the endogenous opioid, but not noradrenergic, system.

An improved retinal tack can be used to fix the retina in complicated retinal detachment and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. We used the retinal tack made by biodegradable polyglycolic acid, polylactic acid and copolymers. The tacks with polyglycolic acid were placed in the retina the right eyes of 10 rabbits as group 1, with polylactic-polyglycolic acid copolymers as group 2 in each left eyes. We examined the absorption rates and degree of intraocular inflammation at 1 day, 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks and compared both eyes. The tacks were absorbed with time in both eyes, but more rapid in copolymers. And there was no inflammation in both eyes. Now, this study will be a base on the drug delivery system in intraocular pharmacological and surgical management.

"Biomaterials" are nonviable materials used in medical devices, intended to interact with biological systems. They should have "biocompativility", which is defined as the ability of materials to perform with an appropriate host response in a specific application. It includes many materials that are often classified as biomaterials. Metals, ceramics, polymers, glasses, carbons, and composite materials are some examples. Among them, biodegradable polymers are discussed in this revies article. Since a biodegradable polymeric implant does not have to be removed surgically once it is no longer needed, biodegradable polymers are of value in short-term applications that require only the temporary presence of a polymeric implant. Main short-term medical applications of biodegradable polymers include the temporary tissue scaffold, the temporary adhesion barrier, the drug delivery device, and the multifunctional implant. In this article, the properties, processing methods, and medical applications of the biodegradable polymers are reviewed.
21세기 새로운 시대를 준비하는 원광대학교 의과대학의 교육목표 개정과정

교육목적은 대학의 교육이 지향하는 대전제이다. 그러므로 대학교육 목적과 목표가 어떤가에 따라 교육과정과 교육방법이 달라진다. 원광대학교 의과대학의 교육목표는, '지덕겸수'로 요약되는 '과학과 도학을 겸비한 전인교육'의 건학정신과 '학술탐구'와 '덕성함양'의 원광대학교 교육목표와 일치하게 현재까지 유지되었다. 그러나 현행 교육목표의 여러 문제점이 발견되었고, 시대상의 변화에 따라 원광대학교 의과대학에서도 사회적 변화 빛 의료인에 대한 시대적 요구에 걸맞은 의학교육의 목적 및 목표의 재설정 과정을 시작하게 되었다. 그 결과 개정 작업을 통해 새로운 교육목표를 설정하게 되었으며 그 내용은 다음과 같다. 1. 기본진료능력을 지닌 의사를 양성한다. 2. 원불교 교리 이념을 반영한 윤리적, 도덕적인 의사를 양성한다. 3. 평생 학습하는 연구하는 의사 혹은 의과학자를 양성한다. 4. 사회적 책무를 수행하는 리더십을 갖춘 의사를 양성한다. 5. 지역 사회에 공헌하는 봉사정신을 갖춘 의사를 양성한다. Purpose : With the changes to the medical environments and to the medical educational systems, we aimed to evaluate the current mission statement of the School of Medicine, Wonkwang University, and to revise it. Methods : To establish the new goal and mission statement, a Special Committee for the Revision of Medical School Mission and advisory group were organized in 2008. This special committee conducted through five steps of action, which are composed of investigation, education, development, surveillance of various opinions, and announcement. Results : For the development of new goal and mission, the revised, final goal and mission statements decided through the five steps of action. The new mission of Wonkwang University School of Medicine was as follows; 1. Doctor who can diagnose and treat easily 2. Ethical and moral doctor who practice Won Buddhism 3. Doctor or Medical Scholar who studies lifelong study 4. Doctor who has leadership to social responsibility 5. Doctor who goes into service to a local community. Conclusion : The authors expect that the new goal and mission of Wonkwang University School of Medicine would be helpful in giving the guideline on the educational process of medical school and will give the information to reform the medical school system according to the rapidly changing educational environment.
거푸집공사 중대재해의 원인분석을 통한 관련 법규의 개선방안

The grave accident have been increasing in proportion as construction work have been large and complicated. The form work, many sides workers have worked in, are most dangerous work in construction processes. Accidents in form works have turned on collapse accident that have lost lives and economy. So, the purpose of this study is to suggest the regal reductive plans of grave accident in the form work, and the result of this study is as following; 1. It must be added the regulation of transportation process in the standard safety work guidebook for concrete construction. 2. It must be added the regulation of individual safety devices and the facility to prevent falling accident in the standard safety work guidebook for concrete construction. 3. In regard to a casting concrete placing process, it is necessary to establish requirements and standards for reviewing the structures of moulders and short pillars propping up a veranda floor in an industrial safety and public health law and the standard specifications for construction and concrete. Based on this, standard safety work guidebooks for concrete work should clearly specify everything about making up an assembly picture and the ways to review the structure while installing shout pillars propping up a veranda floor. 4. In standard safety work guidebooks for concrete work, it is necessary to supplement the omitted of the regulations concerning the installation of work routes and fall preventing facilities during a disjointing process.
위암 환자의 복강내 투여를 위한 Activated Charcoal-Alginate Bead 제형으로부터 Mitomycin C의 용출 거동

Locoregional recurrence is the most common type of recurrence in surgical operation of gastric adenocarcinoma, and peritoneal dissemination is one of the most difficult problems in advanced gastric adenocarcinoma treatment. Because the peritoneal cavity is the most common site of the first recurrence after gastric cancer resection, intraperitoneal chemotherapy seems a logical choice for cancer chemotherapy. In this study, Mitomycin C (MMC)-activated charcoal (CH)-alginate (ALG) beads were prepared by the mixtures of CH particles adsorbed with MMC as an anti-cancer drug and aqueous alginate solution. The alginate is recognized as biodegradable, nontoxic, and biocompatible. The release of MMC from the beads in 0.1 M Tris buffer was stable and continuous until about 1 week. The MMC-CH-ALG beads can be applied in the peritoneal cavity for intraperitoneal chemotherapy since they provide a good adhesiveness on the tissue and controlled release pattern of the drugs.
