        The purpose of this study is to develop the microneedle using biodegradable and biocompatible polymer and to pioneer the new route of drug delivery through the research to apply the most desirable administration form of small molecules, peptides, proteins, genes, biological products including vaccines. Various biocompatible microneedles were manufactured. To apply drug to microneedle, drug formulation using ethylene vinyl acetate patch or polyacryl acid gel was developed. Drug permeation into rat skin based on the application method of patch or gel with microneedle was studied using Franz diffusion cell system. In vitro drug permeation results showed that the permeation by the application of hollow microneedle was not increased compared with solid microneedle. When G60 or G60*2 microneedle was used, the permeated amount of calcein was increased compared to when solid microneedle was used. The permeated amount of lidocaine HCl in 12 hr was increased when microneedle was used was increased. Skin irritation followed by microneedle showed there was little difference in the decrease of redness after microneedle application based on application time.

        This study attempted to determine the degree of asbestos release from the aging slate roof by comparing the asbestos content in the slate roof rain gutter with a colored steel plate (tin plate) over the slate roof. Four slate roof houses located in Haengmok-ri, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, and one house constructed with a colored steel plate on the slate roof were selected to collect the sediment of the roof rain gutter. The asbestos fiber content was calculated by a point counting method using a polarization microscope after pretreatment with conversion treatment and hydrochloric acid treatment. The average asbestos content of the four slate roof rain gutter were 1.89%. However, asbestos was not detected in the Slate covering roof rain gutter, which were constructed on the slate roof. Asbestos fiber content was the highest at 2.89% in the slate roof rain gutter installed in 1976, followed by 2.44% in 1953. From the above results, it is necessary to minimize secondary damage as asbestos fibers released from slate roof houses to the surrounding atmosphere or leaked from slate roofs as rainwater may cause soil pollution and seriously affect residents' health. Although covering with colored steel plates (tin plates) has been shown to prevent the leakage of asbestos fibers to some extent, it is believed that a policy alternative to remove the slate roof as soon as possible is needed to solve the fundamental problem.

        In this paper, a study of 2-step damage measures for 2-Dimensional truss structures using the Projection filter theory is presented. Many researchers are interested in inverse problems and one of solution procedures for inverse problems that are very effective is the approach using the filtering algorithm in conjunction with numerical solution methods. In this paper, the Projection filtering in conjunction with structural analysis is applied to the identification of damages in 2-D truss structures. And, damage detection take use of 2-step damage assessment method. First, kinetic energy change ratio are used to find damage region including damaged member and then detect damaged member in damage region. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified through the numerical example.

        Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma is a very rare malignancy, and little is known concerning its Pathogenesis, optimal treatment, and prognosis. A 29-year-o1d pregnant woman (21 weeks) Presented with abdominal discomfort CA 19-9, CA 125, and CEA were normal Abdominal CT scanning revealed a 19x15x13 cm retropentoneal tumor Exploratory laparotomy and tumor excision were performed. Mucinous retropentoneal implants were removed as completely as possible Histologically, the tumor showed focal areas of capsular invasion, but free resection margins The uterus and both ovaries were normal in appearance No adjuvant therapy was pursued. Six months later, Peritoneal and bilateral ovarian metastases were discovered. Hence, we report the details of this case of primary retroperitoneal mucinous Cystadeno-carcinoma and present a review of the literature.

        RAW 264.7 세포에 대한 중국산 천연 광물성 섬유 TAFMAG의 독성효과

        Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate cytotoxicity of TAFMAG, which is a trade name of natural mineral fiber mined and produced in China. Methods : The cytotoxicity of TAFMAG was evaluated by measuring iron content, lipid peroxidation, erythrocyte hemolysis, and cytotoxicity in vitro. These results were compared with the data of chrystotile and wollastonite as a positive and negative control, respectively. Results : There was significant increase of Fenton activity in TAFMAG and chrysotile with dose-response pattern. The iron chelating agent, desferrioxamine, significantly decreased Fenton activity of the particulates except wollastonite. TAFMAG and chrysotile fibers significantly increased malondialdehyde concentration from lipid peroxidation of the red blood cell membrane. In erythrocyte hemolysis test, TAFMAG & chrysotile had stronger effect on erythrocyte hemolysis than wollastonite with the concentration of 1,000g/ml. Furthermore, TAFMAG was more hemolytic than chrysotile with the concentration of 5,000g/ml. There was a significant cytotoxic effect in TAFMAG and chrysotile on RAW cell compared with wollastonite. Conclusions : In vitro study suggested that TAFMAG may have a similar health hazard as usual asbestos.

        약초 첨가 비단두부의 이화학적 특성 변화

        The effect of medicinal herb powder addition on the physicochemical characteristics of silk-tofu was investigated. Moisture content of silk-tofu decreased during the storage. The pH value of silk-tofu decreased a little until 2 days' storage, and then increased rapidly. The chromaticity of L value decreased for all silk-tofu during the storage. The a value increased a little at initial storage, and then tended to decrease, while b values increased significantly during storage. The contents of free amino acid were 4 times higher in silk-tofu than those in market tofu. Hardness, gumminess and chewiness of all silk-tofu increased rapidly during storage. Cohesiveness values decreased a little at initial storage, and then kept to increase upon storage. Generally, the total plate counts of bacteria of all silk-tofu increased during storage, and those of silk tofu with added medicinal herb powder were shown to be significantly lower than those in control. In sensory evaluation, color, structure, softness and overall acceptability of silk tofu with added dangui powder(dang-T) and control(con-T) were about to be high, and nutty taste and flavor of control silk-tofu was the highest in score.

      • 혈관내피세포-U937세포의 부착에 미치는 Eicosapentaenoic Acid의 효과

        연구배경: 역학적연구에서 어류의 섭취가 많은 집단에서 관상동맥질환의 빈도가 낮은 것이 보고되었고, 이것은 어류에 많이 함유된 불포화지방산(polyunsaturated fatty acid) 특히 eicosapentaenoic acid 때문으로 생각되어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 동맥경화증 발생의 초기단계로 여겨지는 단핵구와 혈관내피세포 사이의 adhesion에 미치는 다불포화지방산의 영향을 in vitro system에서 관찰하고자 하였다. 방 법: 제대정맥에서 얻은 혈관내피세포를 배양하여 96 well에 옮기고 25, 50, 100, 200 ㎛ 농도의 eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA)를 6시간 동안 처리한 U937세포를 부착시켜 adhesion assay를 시행하였다. 혈관내피세포를 자극하기 위해서는 lipopolysaccharide(LPS)를 well당 100 ng씩을 투여하였다. 음성대조군으로는 LPS로 자극하지 않은 혈관내피세포에 EPA처리를 하지 않은 U937세포로 adhesion assay한 성적을 사용했고, 양성대조군으로는 LPS로 자극한 혈관내피세포에 EPA처리를 하지 않은 U937세포로 adhesion assay한 성적을 사용했다. 그리고 EPA(3.3 mM)을 5㎛ CuSO4 및 300 ㎛ asscorbic acid와 혼합하여 섭씨 37도에서 16시간 두어 산화-EPA를 만들어 같은 실험을 반복하였다. 결 과: U937세포에 25, 50, 100, 200 ㎛의 EPA로 6시간 처리하였을 때 U937세포의 생존율은 99% 이상이었다. 혈관내피세포를 LPS로 자극했을 때 adhesion assay에서 혈관내피세포에 붙는 U937세포의 수는 현저히 증가하였다. 그러나 EPA를 U937세포에 25, 50, 100, 200 ㎛의 농도로 6시간 처리 후에 lipopolysac-charide를 처리한 제대정맥 내피세포에 부착(adhesion)시켰을 때 처리한 EPA의 각 농도에 따른 부착된 U937세포의 수는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타내지 못했다. EPA처리가 부착된 U937세포의 수에 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 결 론: EPA는 U937세포에 영향을 미쳐 혈관내피세포-U937 세포부착을 감소시키지는 못하였다. 따라서 EPA에 의한 혈관내피세포-단핵구 부착 억제 효과는 EPA의 단핵구에 미치는 영향에 의하지는 않는 것으로 생각되나 추후 더 많은 연구가 필요하리라 생각된다. Background : Epidemiological studies have shown correlation between low incidence of coronary heart disease and high consumption of fish products. It has been suggested that this may be due to the high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids of the n-3 fatty acid group in fish oil. In animal studies eicosapentaenoic and (EPA) inhibited attachment of monocytes to the arterial endothlium. Method : Adhesion assay was performed on the endothelial cells of the human umbilical vein with 25, 50, 100, 200 ㎛ EPA-treated U937 cells. The endothelial cells were activated with lipopoysaccharide (LPS). The adhesion assay was repeated with oxidized EPA. EPA was oxidized with CuSO4 and ascorbic acid. Result : Viability of U937 cells were not afected by concentrations up to 200 ㎛ of EPAand oxidized EPA. LPS treatment of endothelium notably increased the number of U937 cells attached to endothelial cells on the adhesion assay. However, treatment of EPA, native or oxidized, to U937 cells did not afect the number of U937 cells attached to LPS activated endothelial cells. Conclusion : EPA treatment, native or oxidized, of U937 cells did not affect U937 cell-endothlial cell adhesion. This suggests that inhibition of monocyte-endothlial cells ◎attachment by EPA is not due to the effects of EPS on monocytes.(Korean Circulatin J 1998;28(4):606-610)
