Background Excessive intake of fat, one of the causes of obesity, is associated with low-grade infammation in various susceptible organs and eventually causes tissue toxicity. This study examines the multifaceted suppressive efects of Korean red ginseng extract (KRG) on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced lipotoxicity and infammatory responses in the aorta, liver, and brain. Methods Male C57BL/6 mice were fed HFD with or without KRG for 12 weeks. The improvement efect in KRG on lipotoxicity and infammatory potential was determined in the blood and the aorta, liver, and brain tissues. Results KRG signifcantly inhibited 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity by >20% in vitro. KRG supplementation suppressed HFD-associated body weight gain, lipid profle changes, and excessive fat deposition in the liver and increased leptin, insulin, and ALT levels in the blood. Infammatory markers in the aorta, liver, and brain were also signifcantly reduced by KRG treatment. In microvascular endothelial cells, the 15% cyclic stretch-mediated upregulation of ICAM-1 and vascular cell adhesion protein-1 (VCAM-1) expression was signifcantly attenuated in the presence of KRG. Conclusion KRG supplementation attenuates HFD-mediated body weight gain, lipid profle changes, and multi-tissue infammatory responses.
Associations of serotonergic genes with poststroke emotional incontinence

<P><B>Objectives</B></P><P>Poststroke emotional incontinence (PSEI) has been associated with serotonergic dysfunction. Polymorphisms of serotonin transporter (5‐HTT) and serotonin 2a receptor (5‐HTR2a) genes may regulate serotonergic signaling at brain synapses, and this study was to investigate associations with PSEI in an East Asian population.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>In 276 stroke cases, PSEI was diagnosed by Kim's criteria. Covariates included age, gender, education, history of depression or stroke, current depression, and stroke severity and location. Genotypes were ascertained for 5‐HTT gene‐linked promoter region (5‐HTTLPR), serotonin transporter intron 2 variable number tandem repeat, 5‐HTR2a 1438A/G, and 5‐HTR2a 102 T/C. Associations with PSEI were estimated by using logistic regression models, and gene–gene interactions were investigated by using the generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction method.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>PSEI was present in 37 (13.4%) patients. The 5‐HTT gene‐linked promoter region <I>s</I>/<I>s</I> genotype was independently associated with PSEI. No associations with STin2 VNTR and 5‐HTR2a genes were found, and no significant gene–gene interactions were identified.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Stroke patients with 5‐HTTLPR <I>s</I> allele had higher susceptibility to PSEI, which underlines the potential role of serotonergic pathways in its etiology. urpose: Misonidazole is a radiosensitizer that binds in hypoxic cells. The purpose of this study was to find out the feasibility of I-131-Iodomisonidazole (IMISO) for imaging of tumor hypoxia. Materials and Methods: Tosyl precursor was dissolved in acetonitrile and I-131-NaI was added to synthesize IMISO. Balb/c mice inoculated with CT-26 adenocarcinoma were injected with IMISO. Mice were sacrificed at 1,2,4,24 hr and % of injected dose per gram of tissue (%ID/g) was determined. For scintigraphy and MRI, mouse bearing CT-26 adenocarcinoma was administered with IMISO and imaging was performed 4 hr after. Then, mouse body was fixed and microtomized slice was placed on radiographic film for autoradiography. Results: %ID/g of tumor was 1.64 (1h), 0.98 (2h), 0.85 (4h) and 0.20 (24h), respectively. At 24h, %ID/g of tumor was higher than that of all other tissues except thyroid. Tumor to muscle ratio increased with time and tumor to blood ratio also increased with time and reached 1.53 at 24 hr. On autoradiogram, tumor was well visualized as an increased activity in central hypoxic area of the tumor which corresponds to the area of high signal intensity on T2-weighted MR image. On scintigraphy, tumor uptake was visualized. Conclusion: This results suggest that IMISO may have a potential for tumor hypoxia imaging in mouse model. However, further study is needed to improve it's localization in tumor tissue and to achieve acceptable images of tumor hypoxia.

Usually, Many Engineers have used predicting the settlement and displacement using linear elastic modulus(E_(50) calculated by the conventional triaxial test results. But it is results are very diffemt from those of field, which follows deffent stress path and nonlinear behaviour. Therefore, to investigate the dependence of stress path with the variation of confining pressure and relative density on Sum-Jin River sand, local strain triaxial tests are preformed. It is showed as follows ; For the same stress path condition, the stiffness increased with increasing confining pressure and relative density, especially it is more affected by confining pressure. From the relations between Young's modulus and axial strain showed all nonlinear-elastic behaviour and independent on testing conditions, such as, confining pressure, relative density and stress path, etc. The mount of stiffness at very small strain range showed very high value and linear elastic behaviour. And compression results are rather overestimated than that of extention.
미혼 여성근로자의 건강행태와 자각적 건강상태와의 관련요인 분석

This study was peroformed to identify health behaviors and health problems, and the relations between health behaviors and health problems of unmarried female workers. The Cornell Medical Index Health Questionnaire(CMI) was used to measure their health problems. Survey was conducted with 973 unmarried female workers from October 2001 to March 2002. The main reason of health problems is the stress commonly in both white color workers and blue color workers. Among white color workers, smoking and stress is significantly related with respiratory system, musculoskelectal system. Stress is significantly related with digestive system, neurological system. Drinking and stress is significantly related with fatigability(p<0.05). Among blue color workers, smoking, drinking, strees is significantly related with respiratory system. Stress, smoking, eating habit is significantly related with digestive system. Stress, smoking, eating habit, hours of sleep is significantly related with musculoskeletal system. Stress, smoking is significantly related with fatigability(p<0.05).
테두리방귀버섯(Geastrum fimbriatum)과 비단빛깔때기버섯 (Clitocybe candicans) 등 한국산 담자균류 10종의 임파아구생성 촉진 효과

As an effort to find out potent antitumor immunomodulatory agents from Korean basidiomycetes, the protein-polysaccharide fractions were prepared from ten mushrooms - Pleurotus ostreatus, Agaricus bisporus, flammulina velutipes, Lentius edodes, Macrolepiota procera and Coriolus versicolor - and subjected to a flow cytometrical analysis for their lymphoblastogenic activity on the in vitro cultured mouse splenic lymphocytes. As a result, Geastrum fimbriatum and Clitocybe candicans showed remarkable lymphoblastogenic effect, the maximum stimulatory index of them being 3.73 and 2.52, respectively, whereas the others showed minimal effects.
