        Recently the garlic has been proved to have some protective effect on the heavy metal poisoning of cadmium and mercury in several studies. From this fact it may be assumed that the garlic would have a protective effect to the toxicity of heavy metals in pregnant rat also. Therefore this study was designed to confirm the effect of garlic on the toxicity of cadmium in the pregnant rat and its fetus. The result of it was compared with that of 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA). The experimental groups were devided into 3 groups; cadmium-alone treated group, cadmium-garlic combined treated group, cadmium-DMSA combined treated group. Each group was composed of 3 sub-groups according to the dosage of cadmium injection. The total of 4㎎/kg, 8㎎/kg and 16㎎/kg of cadmium was injected subcutaneously at the back of pregnant rat in each subgroup for 4 days, from the 14th to the 17th day of gestational period. Garlic and DMSA were administered per os from the day before cadmium injection to the 21st gestational day. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The inhibition of fetal growth due to cadmium administration into pregnant rat was prohibited in cadmium-garlic or cadmium-DMSA combined treated group except for the 16㎎/kg cadmium injected subgroups. 2. The accumulation of cadmium in tissues of liver, kidney and blood of pregnant rat, placenta and fetus was increased according to the increase amount of cadmium injection in all 3 experimental groups. Garlic and DMSA decreased the cadmium levels of maternal liver, kidney and blood, but there was no significant difference of cadmium level between garlic and DMSA treated group. 3. Garlic decreased the accumulation of cadmium in tissues of placenta and fetus, but it was not significant statistically comparing with that of DMSA or no-treatment group. Correlations of cadmium levels among maternal blood, placenta and fetus were positively high. 4. Necrosis of proximal convoluted tubules with pyknosis of epithelial cells was observed extensively in fetal kidney of cadmium-alone treated rat. However, the necrosis of the tubules was found only in small numbers of the tubules in cadmium-garlic combined treated one, but there was no remarkable change in cadmium-DMSA combined treated rat comparing with cadmium-alone treated one. As a conclusion this study revealed that the garlic would reduce the accumulation of cadmium in maternal tissues and protect against the toxic effect of cadmium at fetus in context of the growth inhibition and histopathological damage of kidney, but would not attribute the interfering the transportation of cadmium through placental barrier.

        광양항 컨테이너부두 배후부지 개발방향과 활성화방안

        이 논문의 목적은 광양항 컨테이너부두 배후부지의 개발방향과 활성화 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 우선, 배후부지의 개발과 운영에 관련된 계획, 법규 및 국내외 사례를 검토한 후, 배후부지 유치대상 기능과 주요시설을 규명하고, 개발 기본구상도와 단계별 개발계획안을 제시한다. 배후부지 개발사업의 활성화를 위해 정부의 정책적 지원방안 및 관련조직간의 협조방안과 배후부지 입주업체의 유치방안을 제시한다. 아울러 배후부지 개발의 기대효과 및 최근 경제상황에 따른 건의사항을 제시한다. In this paper we try to make suggestions for the development and promotion for the hinterland of the Kwangyang container port. First, we investigated the development plan, the law and several cases related to the development and operation of the port hinterland. Then we propose a scheme to develop the hinterland and define major functions and facilities for the hinterland. For the promotion of the hinterland, we suggest several roles of the government organizations to activate functions of the hinterland and ideas to attract customers. Finally, we suggest an expected effect according to the development of the hinterland and propose a proper way of the development considering the recent Korean economic situation.

      • 농촌지역 노인들의 우울증상에 관련된 요인들의 특성

        This study was performed to identify risk factors for depression among the elderly in a rural area. A survey was done for the elderly living in Gosam-myenn, Ansung-kun during the period of July 28, 1997 and July 30, 1997. Demographic and sodoeconornic characteristics, and functional and health Status were assessed using a structured questionnaire, and the level of depression was measured by GDS score. The data obtained were analyzed by frequencies, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression, and the results were as follows: 1. The total sample consisted of 133 elderly. Of them, 47 elderly (35.4%) showed significant depressive Symptoms. 2. The GDS score was the highest for the group over 85 years of age (p < 0.05). Those living alone or widowed showed lower GDS score than those living with someone or married (p < 0.05). 3. The GDS score was the highest in the absolutely dependent group, followed by the partially dependent group, and the independent group (p < 0.01). The elderly who perceived their health Status as excellent showed the lowest GDS score. In contrast, those who had more than five chronic diseases showed the highest GDS score. 4. The elderly receiving financial and emotional support from their family or friends showed lower GDS score compared to those without any support. 5. The economically dependent group showed higher GDS score than that of independent group. 6. The elderly who involved in leisure activities showed lower GDS score than those without any involvement. 7. In terms of risk factors for depression, we found that perceived health Status, subjective economic Status, leisure activities, living arrangement and financial support were inversely associated with GDS score, whereas labor support was positively associated with GDS score. Based upon the above findings, this study suggests that these risk factors for depression in the elderly should be taken into consideration for a comprehensive mental health program for the elderly living in the rural area.

      • 위 MALT 림프종에서 다발성 림프절 전이로 오인된 동시성 림프절 결핵 1예

        28세 남자가 내시경적 점막절제술을 통해 저등급 위MALT 림프종으로 진단되었다. 병기설정을 위해 18F-FDG PET 검사를 시행하였고 우측 쇄골상부, 우측상/하부 기관주위, AP window 부위에 강한 섭취가 관찰되어 전이성 림프절로 판단하였다. 그러나, 우측 쇄골상부 림프절에서 시행한 절제생검에서 만성육아종성염증소견이 관찰되었고 조직의 결핵 중합효소연쇄반응에서도 양성 반응을 보였다. 2개월간 항결핵제의 사용 후 시행한 추적 컴퓨터단층촬영 검사에서 림프절 크기의 감소를 보여 최종적으로 위 MALT 림프종에서 광범위 림프절 전이로 오인된 동시성 림프절 결핵으로 진단되었다. A 28-year-old man was diagnosed as gastric MALT lymphoma in diagnostic EMR (endoscopic mucosal resection). He subsequently underwent an 18F-FDG PET. 18F-FDG PET showed intense multifocal uptake in right supraclavicular, right upper and lower paratracheal, and AP window areas that was considered radiologically to represent widespread metastatic lymphadenopathy. Excisional biopsy of a supraclavicular lymph node, however, revealed chronic granulomatous lymphadenitis with a positive reaction of Tb-nested PCR. After antituberculosis treatment for 2 months, a follow-up CT scan showed complete resolution of the lesions. Intense 18F-FDG uptake could be due to an infectious process such as synchronous tuberculous lymphadenitis. Therefore, this could mimic a malignant condition such as lymphoma with extensive lymph node metastasis due to a false-positive finding, which may lead to a misdiagnosis.

        This paper shows eletrochemical extraction property changes of dyed cations by the various eletrochemical conditions using quartz crystal technique. The quantitative and qualitative changes of electrode surface was monitored measuring oscillation parameters of quartz crystal. The results suggest that the eletrochemical extraction of cation is influenced by the various factors such as ionic size, ionic intensity and tendency of ionization.

      • 어린이 김치 표준화에 대한 연구(1) : 어린이 김치의 담금법 개발 Development of the Preparation of Kimchi for the Children

        The purpose of this study is reporting the results of first trial for the standardization of children's kimchi in terms of brining standardization, development for the recipe ad pannel test for the children's kimchi. In order to develop the standard recipe for children's kimchi, our research team have visited kimchi factories, temples and houses located in Pusan and Kyung-Sang Nam Do province. Three kinds of chinese cabbage kimchi (hamyang, haeundae, and jinrae kimchi named by region where we collected) which got the top three highest score in panel testing was selected. The original recipes of these kimchi were sightly modified to prepared the kimchi at laboratory. Among three of them, hamyang kimchi which contained dried anchovy power was selected as a model kimchi for development of the children's kimchi recipe. We find out that the optimal salt concentration of brined cabbage and kimchi for the children's kimchi (sliced style kimchi, approximately 2.5X3cm a piece) that showed the hightest pennel score were approximately 1.5% and 2.0%, respectively. The salt concentration of brined cabbage became 1.5, 1.43, and 1.60% after 60 min at 10% brining solution, 45 min at 12% and 30 min at 15%, respectively. The developed recipe used for the children's kimchi at our team is as follows. The major ingredients used for the preparation of kimchi is brined sliced chinese cabbage (salt concentration is 1.5%) 1kg galic 11g, ginger 5.0g, red pepper powder 20.0g, fermented anchovy juice 25.0g, fermented shrimp juice 5.0g dried anchovy and sea weed extracts 30.0g, anchovy power 2.4g glutinious rice gel 40.0g, starch syrup, 10.0g, and apple juice 22.5g. The total acceptability test of developed children's kimchi (test kimchi) was carried out with 84 of 6th grade student during lunch time at elementary school in Pusan where has a school lunch program. Sixty nine percent of student answered test kimchi is very good, 25% of them said it is fair, and only 6% of students answered they didn't like test kimchil. However, for the kimchi supplied from school at lunch, 52% students answered the kimchi is good, 26% of them said it is fair, and 22% of them said they don't like school supplied kimchi. This result tells us that the test kimchi is better than school supplied kimchi and the test kimchi can be developed further as a children's kimchi.

      • 고속액체크로마토그래피를 이용한 혈장중 로바스타틴산의 분석 : 시료전처리로서 단백침전법 및 고상추출법의 비교 Comparison of Protein Precipitation Method and Solid Phase Extraction Method for Sample Pretreatment

        Lovastatin(LV), one of the potent cholesterol-lowering agents, is an inactive lactone prodrug which is metabolized to its active open acid (Lovastatin acid. LVA). In order to optimize the assay procedure of LVA by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). solid phase extraction(SPE) method and protein precipitation method were employed for the pretreatment of plasma sample containing LV and LVA, and plasma sample was hydrolyzed under alkaline condition to transform all LV to LVA. Following pretreatment of plasma sample. 100ul of sample was injected onto a reversed-phase C_18 column and eluted with a acetonitrile-pH 3.0 phosphate buffer mixture(45:55 v/v) at a flow rate of 2.0ml/min. Ultraviolet detection was carried out at 238nm. It has been shown that all of LV in plasma was converted to LVA in vitro under alkaline condition. On SPE method, elution with acetonitrile-methanol mixture(75:25 v/v) indicated the highest recovery of LVA, but acid treatment of plasma sample before loading on SPE cartridge revealed little effect on recovery of LVA. Compared with two different pretreatment of plasma sample, SPE indicated better sensitivity and recovery.
