Locoregional recurrence is the most common type of recurrence in surgical operation of gastric adenocarcinoma, and peritoneal dissemination is one of the most difficult problems in advanced gastric adenocarcinoma treatment. Because the peritoneal cavity is the most common site of the first recurrence after gastric cancer resection, intraperitoneal chemotherapy seems a logical choice for cancer chemotherapy. In this study, Mitomycin C (MMC)-activated charcoal (CH)-alginate (ALG) beads were prepared by the mixtures of CH particles adsorbed with MMC as an anti-cancer drug and aqueous alginate solution. The alginate is recognized as biodegradable, nontoxic, and biocompatible. The release of MMC from the beads in 0.1 M Tris buffer was stable and continuous until about 1 week. The MMC-CH-ALG beads can be applied in the peritoneal cavity for intraperitoneal chemotherapy since they provide a good adhesiveness on the tissue and controlled release pattern of the drugs.
Effects of electroacupuncture on oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic cold hypersensitivity in rats

This study investigated whether and how electroacupuncture (EA) attenuates cold hypersensitivity (allodynia) in a rat model of oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic pain. Cold allodynia [evaluated by immersing the tail into cold water (4 A degrees C) and measuring the withdrawal latency] was induced 3 days after an oxaliplatin administration (6 mg/kg, i.p.). EA stimulation (2/100 Hz, 0.3-ms pulse duration, 0.2-0.3 mA) was delivered to ST36 acupoint or non-acupoint for 20 min. Low-frequency (2 Hz) EA at ST36 relieved cold allodynia more effectively than high-frequency EA at ST36 or low-frequency EA at non-acupoint. Naloxone (opioid antagonist, 2 mg/kg, i.p.) completely blocked such EA-induced anti-allodynia, whereas phentolamine (alpha-adrenergic antagonist, 2 mg/kg, i.p.) did not. Moreover, plasma beta-endorphin levels significantly increased right after the end of EA and subsequently decreased. These results indicate that low-frequency EA at ST36 in rats has a marked relieving effect on oxaliplatin-induced cold allodynia that is mediated by the endogenous opioid, but not noradrenergic, system.

Background/Aims: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is an effective procedure for en-bloc curative resection of the colorectal tumor. As it requires high technical skills and experience in therapeutic endoscopy, it is important to understand learning curve of ESD technique. The aim of this study was to retrospectively describe the clinical results of ESD and to evaluate learning curve for the ESD of colorectal tumors. Methods: A total of 90 patients with 90 colorectal neoplasms, who had undergone ESD at a tertiary referral hospital from July 2009 to December 2012, were enrolled. The ESD was performed by a single endoscopist. All ESD cases were divided into three periods: first, cases 1-30; second, cases 31-60; and third, cases 61-90. Results: The en-bloc resection rates in third period (100%) was significantly higher than that of the first (93.3%) and second period (80%) (p=0.025). The perforation rate in third period (0%) also significantly decreased compared with that of the first (13.3%) and second period (20%) (p=0.032). To calibrate the difference of tumor size among periods, proficiency was calculated, as the procedure time per specimen area (min/cm2). The proficiency in third period (4.3) was significantly shorter than that of the first (16.8) and second period (10.2) (p=0.004). Conclusions: The learning curve of colorectal ESD in our study shows that at least 60 cases of ESD have to be conducted to acquire sufficient skill of degree without perforation. Purification and Characterization of Helicobacter pylori ${\gamma}$-Glutamyltranspeptidase

Gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity from the cell extract of H. pylori. The purified enzyme consisted of heavy and light subunits with molecular weights of 38 kDa and 21 kDa, respectively. N-terminal amino acid sequence of heavy and light subunits revealed that H. pylori GGT was processed into 3 parts for a signal peptide of 27 amino acid residues, a heavy subunit of 352 residues, and a light subunit of 188 residues during translation. The reaction rate for hydrolysis of ${\gamma}$-GpNA was 84.4 ${\mu}mol/min$ per milligram of protein, and that for the ${\gamma}$-glutamyl transfer from ${\gamma}$-GpNA to gly-gly was 23.8 ${\mu}mol/min$ per milligram of protein. The apparent Km values of H. pylori GGT for ${\gamma}$-glutamyl compounds were on the order of $10^{-3}$ to $10^{-4}$ M and those for acceptor peptides and amino acids were on the order of $10^{-1}$ to $10^{-2}$ M. The GGT protein kept approximately 80% of the initial enzymatic activity on incubation at $60^{\circ}C$ for 15 min. The optimum temperature and pH for reactions of both hydrolysis and transpeptidation were $40^{\circ}C$ and 9.0, respectively. The transpeptidation and hydrolysis reactions catalyzed by H. pylori GGT were strongly inhibited by L-Gln and moderately inhibited by L-Ala, L-Ser, ${\beta}$-chloro-L-Ala, and L-Glu. These results demonstrated that the biochemical properties of H. pylori GGT are different from those of other bacterial GGTs. Further, H. pylori GGT might degrade glutathione in the gastric mucous layer of humans if the enzyme could be secreted in the bacterial niches.
원산지별 감초추출물의 항산화활성 증가를 위한 효율적인 추출조건 탐색

본 연구에서는 한국 및 중국산 감초(Glycyrrhiza uralensis), 그리고 우즈베키스탄산 감초(Glycyrrhiza glabra)를 대상으로 추출용매, 추출온도, 추출시간 등 추출조건별 추출물을 제조하고 이들 추출물들의 추출 수율과 항산화 활성을 비교하여 최적의 추출조건을 선정하였다. 항산화 활성 중 자유 라디칼(1,1-phenyl-2-pic-rylhydrazyl, DPPH) 소거활성은 85% 에탄올로 60 ℃에서 6 h 동안 추출한 조건에서 한국 감초로부터 얻은 추출물이 가장 높은 활성(46.05%)을 나타내었다. 루미놀 발광법을 이용한 추출물들의 총 항산화능 측정 실험과 피부 광노화에 중요한 <sup>1</sup>O<sub>2</sub>으로 유도된 세포막 손상에 대한 추출물들의 세포 보호 효과를 측정한 실험 모두에서도 위의 조건에서 가장 높은 항산화 활성을 나타내었다. 특히, 한국 감초는 τ<sub>50</sub>이 116.4 min으로 비교 물질인(+)-α-tocopherol (28.5 min)보다 약 4 배나 높은 세포 보호 효과를 나타내었으며, 추출 수율은 18.75%로 우즈베키스탄 및 중국 감초보다 각각 1.2 배 및 2.5 배의 추출 수율을 나타내었다. 따라서, 본 연구 결과는 항산화 소재로 화장품에 응용하기 위하여 감초로부터 추출물을 얻기 위한 최적의 조건은 85% 에탄올로 60 ℃에서 6시간 동안 추출하는 것임을 보여주었다. In this work, licorice extracts were prepared using various extraction conditions such as extraction solvent, temperature, and time from Glycyrrhiza uralensis (G. uralensis) produced in Korea and China and Glycyrrhiza glabra (G. glabra) in Uzbekistan. The optimum extraction condition was selected from the extraction yields and antioxidative activities of extracts. Korea licorice extracts showed the highest free radical (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, DPPH) scav-enging activity (46.05%) under the extraction condition of 85% ethanol at 60 ℃ for 6 hours. The prominent ROS (reactive oxygen species) scavenging activity using luminol-dependent chemiluminescence assay and the cellular protective effect against <sup>1</sup>O<sub>2</sub> induced cellular membrane damage were also shown from the extracts obtained from the same condition. Especially, Korea G. uralensis extracts exhibited the higher prominent protective effect (τ<sub>50</sub> = 116.4 min) than (+)-α-tocopherol (τ<sub>50</sub> = 28.5 min) and the extraction yield of Korea licorice extract was 18.75%, which is 1.2 times and 2.5 times higher than that of Uzbekistan and China, respectively. These results indicate that the extraction condition of 85% ethanol at 60 ℃ for 6 hours is optimal to prepare licorice extracts, which can be applicable as antioxidative cosmetic materials.
생체분해성 고분자를 이용한 사시수술용 제형개발 및 효용성에 대한 연구

A new device, muscle clamping system was developed to facilitate exact quatifying technique A strabismus surgery, and reduce the risk of complications. The device is composed of a lower fixing body with three jaws and an upper supporting body. They are used to clip an extraocular muscle and fix it to the sclera with a single bite. Superior rectus recession on 16 rabbit eyes were performed with this new device. Conjunctival injection, muscle adhesion strength, and light microscopic findings were examined at 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks postoperatively. The Conjunctival injection were minimal, adhesion power ranged from 420 to 600 gram gravity, which is sufficient in withstand the normal pull of human extraocular muscle. In microscopic exam, some Inflammatory cells and fibrosis were found. The new device was technically easy, fast, and accurate, so it may be useful in stabismus surgery.
USB 카메라 영상에서 DP 매칭을 이용한 사용자의 손 동작 인식

In this paper, we proposed hand detection and hand gesture recognition from USB camera video. Firstly, we extract hand region extraction using skin color information from a difference images. Background image is initially stored and extracted from the input images in order to reduce problems from complex backgrounds. After that, 16-directional chain code sequence is computed from the tracking of hand motion. These chain code sequences are compared with pre-trained models using DP matching. Our hand gesture recognition system can be used to control PowerPoint slides or applied to multimedia education systems. We got 92% hand region extraction accuracy and 82.5% gesture recognition accuracy, respectively.

Prospidin, a new alkylating agent, has antimitotic and anticancer effect. Incubation with prospidin increases the stability of DNA and suppresses the incorporation of uridine into RNA by 15-20 percent. Prospidin is cytostatic for suspension culture and cells are blocked in G₂ phase of the cell cycle. The authors have demonstrated the effect of prospidin on the liver of mice histologically and histochemically and observed the cellular changes, loss of pyroninophilic granules and accumulation of fat in the hepatic parenchymal cells. Sixty-five healthy mice of ICR strain, average weight being 20g, were divided into two groups; control and prospidin-treated groups. All experimental animals were administered foo and water ad libitum. Animals of the prospidin-treated groups were administered prospidine 500mg per kg of body weight intraperitoneally fter dilution in the water for injection. Animals of the control group were administered only water for injection. Prospidin treated animals were sacrificed at intervals of 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours after administration of prospidin. Histological preparations were made by way of hematoxylin and eosin stain for the cellular changes, methyl green-pyronin stain for pyroninophilic granules and oil red O stain for fat accumulation in the mouse liver. The results obtained are as follows. 1. Cellular swelling associated with vesicular formation were observed in the hepatic parenchymal cells of entire hepatic lobule at 24 and 36 hours after administration of prospidin. 2. A marked reduction of the pyroninophilic granules were observed in the hepatocyte of he whole hepatic lobule at 24, 36 and 48 hours following drug administration. 3. Fat deposits in the hepatic lobule were seen at 36 hours after administration of prospidin. It is suggested that prospidin acts as a cytotoxic agent and causes cellular swelling with vesicular formation, loss of pyroninophilic granules, and fat accumulation in the parenchymal cells of the liver.
