When it comes to oriental countries, women envy caucasian's $quot;white beauty$quot;, having a transparent and white skin. Especially, it has been a primary subject in Korea to have a multi-divisional research over whitening cosmetics due to environmental factors which require for skin protection from ultraviolet rays throughout a year. Currently, the mechanism of a $quot;whitening function$quot; is classified into 4 categories and implementation. Their methods are to firstly decolorize after restoring the generating melanin, secondly, to prevent melanin's generation by cracking down the enzyme tyrosinase's growth, thirdly to prevent a melanin's generation through cytocine's preparation and lastly to apply herb-extracting whitening products. The way to certify whitening product's efficiency and effectivity is to measure the ability over tyrosinase's crack-down and over the prevention of a melanin's generation around a microorganism or cell. Existing cosmetics have taken advantage of simple functional materials for maintaining healthy skin or hair. However, what can be expected in the future is the usage of various functional materials in manufacturing discriminated composition and to have a clinical test for proving its safety and efficiency. Following a clinical test is the application of these materials to a cosmetic company for a mass production. Therefore, this study will figure out methods of certifying the effectiveness and efficiency of whitening cosmetics and contem plate the available materials for its production. Further than this, this study is to be oriented to benefit to universities, research institutes and industries dealing with the new biological material as a reference, in order to increase competitiveness against foreign products as well as to develop domestic products for export.

우리는 미백제 개발 연구의 일환으로 한국산 지유로부터 새로운 procyanidin류를 분리하였고, thiolysis, desulfurization, methylation, tannase 처리 및 기기 분석에 의해 구조를 결정한 결과 flavan-3-ol 이량체에 gallate한 분자가 결합된 procyandin B-3 3-O-gallat였다. 이 화합물의 효소저해 효과를 관찰한 결과 tyrosinasesms 100μM에서 약 50%의 저해 효과가 있었다.

- Twenty two polyphenols containing ten gallotannins, seven ellagitannins, two phenylpropanoids and three stilbenes isolated from the higher plants were tested inhibitory effects on melanogenesis in cultured B-16 mouse melanoma cell lines. Among the tested samples, 1-desgalloyleugeniin exhibited the most potent inhibitory effect on melanogenesis in cultured cell lines.

This paper is to check out the posbility and suitablity of Mist cosmetic which is a sort of good quality cosmetic to improve skin effect. After spray Mist is added cucumber, it was tested on moisture, oil, elasticity, roughness changes. There are the twenties women for the test. There are several results. It was targeted women in their twenties. First, there are fifty participants who have a dry > combination > normal > oily > sensitive > pimply skin. Second, the Mist cosmetic with cucumber ingredient influenced and control the right of moisture, oil, elasticity to all of them after two hour-test but it doesn`t work with rough texture. Third, nine of fifty participants by selfdiagnosis applied the cosmetic Mist for a week. Afterward the cosmetic influenced on the part of moisture, oil, and elasticity but not on rough. Forth, according to investigation of 50 experimenters` satisfaction who had a two hour-test, it says that everyone in the test have positive responses like quiet good, good, okay in the all tests. Besides, they assessed the scent of cosmetic, moist, skin texture, elastic skin, transparent skin in order. Overall, the cosmetic Mist which consists of cucumber can works well with personal skin type.

- The bioassay-guided fractionation of the MeOH extract of the flowers of Magnolia denudata led us to the isolation of six compounds identified as fargesin(1), kobusin(2), aschantin(3), magnolin(4), rel-[7s,8s,8's]-3,4,3',4'-tetra- methoxy-9,7'-dihydroxy-8.8',7.O.9'-lignan(5) and oplodiol(6), respectively. Among the isolated compounds, fargesin(1) showed most potent inhibitory effect on the melanin polymer biosynthesis in cultured B-16 mouse melanoma cell lines(IC50, 45.7 mM).

As part of our ongoing study focused on the discovery of antioxidants from natural products by measuring the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity, methanol extract of flowers of Carthamustinctorius L. was found to show potent antioxidant activity. Activity-guided fractionation of the methanol extract lead to the isolation of twenty compounds including two flavonol glycosides, quercertin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (12) and kaempferol 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (18), two flavanone glycosides, (2S)-4',5,6,7-tetrahydroxyflavanone 6-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (15) and (2R)-5,7,8',4-tetrahydroxyflavanone 8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (16), and two acetylenic glycosides, 8Z-decaene-4,6-diyne-1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (13) and 4,6-decadiyne-1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (14). Their chemical structures were identified by using spectroscopic analysis. Among them, compounds 12-18 were tested in DPPH assay. Compounds 13-16 were first reported to their antioxidant activity. Quercertin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (12) showed the most potent inhibitory effect on DPPH with IC_50 value of 56.7 μM.

Objectives : This is the study of the application as the ingredients of cosmetics through the examination of the function for physiological activity of Forsythia koreana Nakai. Methods : Forsythia koreana Nakai, which had been extracted, concentrated, and freeze drying with water and ethanol, have been used for the experiment. The effects on electronic donating ability, SOD-like activity, xanthine oxidase inhibition, whitening effect, nitric oxide inhibition have been investigated in the physiological activity measurement of function experiment. Results : According to the physiological activity measurement of function experiment, it had been found that the electron donating ability, at over 100ppm of water extract and ethanol extract showed relatively high donating ability by more than 80%. and as a result of measuring. In the xanthine oxidase inhibition test, 500ppm of water extract showed an effect of 18% and ethanol extract showed an effect of 31.5%. In the tyrosinase inhibition test, 5000ppm of water extract showed an effect of 60% and ethanol extract showed an effect of 85%. In the anti-inflammatory test, the water extract and ethanol extract inhibited the generation of nitric oxide. Conclusions : The results indicated that extract of Forsythia koreana Nakai can be used as a natural ingredients with biological function in cosmetics ingredients.
