l-Muscone is synthesized for use as substitutive material of musk which is the active ingredient of woohwangchungsimwon. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the acute and subacute toxicity of l-muscone in rats. In oral acute toxicity test, SPF Sprague-Dawley male and female rats were gavaged with l-muscone of two doses(0, 5.0g/㎏). No dead animal and abnormal autopsy findings were found in control and treated group. Body weights were slightly decreased in both sexes of rats treated with 5.0g/㎏. Therefore, oral LD_50 of l-muscone was consider to be higher than 5.0g/㎏ in male and female rats. In intraperitoneal acute toxicity test, rats were injected intraperitoneally with dosages of 0, 1,000, 1,316, 1,732, 2,279 and 3,000 ㎎/㎏. Decreased body weights and motor activities were observed at high dose group. Intraperitoneal LD_50 of l-muscone were 1,920 ㎎/㎏ in male and female rats. In the subacute study. l-muscone was administrated orally to both sexes of rats for 4 weeks as several doses(0, 10, 100 and 1,000 ㎎/㎏). There were neither dead animals nor significant changes of body weights during the experimental period. In addition, no differences were found between control and treated groups in clinical signs, urinalysis, hematology, serum biochemical analysis, and other findings. Above data suggest that no observed adverse effect level of l-muscone in rats might be over 1,000 ㎎/㎏/day in this study.

Objectives : This study is to investigate the hypothesis that schizophrenic patients have difficulty in inferring mental state of others. Methods : Twenty schizophrenic patients and twenty normal subjects were administered to the Cartoon Task required inferring the character's intention in a given context. Results : The schizophrenic patients showed a statistically significant impairment in the Cartoon Task. Both groups chose the card depicting a frequent everyday action significantly more rather than the similar card to the last picture in each story for wrong answers. Conclusion : These preliminary results suggest that schizophrenia is associated with a specific deficit of the cognitive ability referred to as social cognition, and this deficit can be detected not only in the acute phase as found in previous research studies, but also in remission. Also when subjects fail to appreciate what is going on in the minds of other people, they seem to rely on a socially familiar experience.

토마토 엽 절편으로부터 식물체 재분화

조직배양에 의한 토마토의 효율적인 재분화 체계를 밝히고저 토마토 엽절편을 재료로 하여 배지 조성 및 품종간의 차이가 재분화에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 토마토 엽절편으로 부터 유기된 shoot수는 Calypso에서 27∼79개로 PI 134417에서의 1∼30개에 비하여 현저히 높았으며, MS배지에 IAA 0.02 ㎎/ℓ와 zeatin 2.0㎎/ℓ가 첨가된 배지에서 Calypso가 79개, PI 134417이 30개로 가장 양호하였다. 토마토의 재분화식물체 shoot의 발근은 MS기본배지에 IAA 0.02 ㎎/ℓ+ GA₃ 0.05㎎/ℓ+ AgNO₃ 10㎎/ℓ를 첨가한 배지가 40%로 가장 양호하였다. Effects of culture medium on the plant regeneration of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) using leaf segments were investigated to establish the efficient in vitro regeneration systems. Numbers of shoot differentiated from leaf explants were remarkably higher cv. Calypso of 275079 compared to that observed in PI 134417 of 1 to 30. Among tested culture media, MS medium supplimented with 2.0 ㎎/ℓ zeatin and 0.02㎎/ℓ IAA was the best resulting in with 79 shoots for cv. Calypso and 30 shoots for PI 134417. Among rooting media tested, MS basal medium added with 0.02㎎/ℓIAA, 0.05㎎/ℓ GA₃, and 10.0㎎/ℓ AgNO₃ gave rise to the best rooting frequency in vitro tomato roots.

The acute and subacute toxicity of New Woohwangchungsimwon(NWCH) which was used l-muscone as substitutive material of musk were investigated in S.D. rats. In intraperitoneal acute toxicity test, rats(Sprague-Dawley, SPF) were injected intraperitoneally with dosages of 0, 540, 750, 1,070, 1,500 and 3,000 ㎎/㎏. Body weights were significantly decreased at 540 ㎎/㎏ dose group in both sexes and abnormal autopsy findings were founded in both sexes at all treated groups. Intraperitoneal LD_50 of NWCH was 812.3 ㎎/㎏ in male and 872.3 ㎎/㎏ in female rats. Myasthenia gravis is a well-recognized disorder of neuromuscular transmission that can by diagnosed by the presence of antibodies to the acetylcholine receptor(AChR). However, some patients with generalized myasthenia gravis do not have detectable AChR antibodies. Seronegative systemic myasthenia gravis is rare in childhood. We reported a case of juvenile seronegative systemic myasthenia gravis confirmed by single fiber electromyography.

Single and 4 weeks oral administration of New Woohwangchungsimwon (NWCH) which was used l-muscone as substitutive material of musk, to beagle dogs of both sexes were performed to investigate both acute and subacute toxicity. Beagle dogs(3 males and 3 females) in acute experiments were administered orally with single dose of 2,000 ㎎/㎏ and groups of 9 male and 9 female beagle dogs in subacute experiments were given daily different dosage of NWCH, 160 ㎎/㎏/day(low dosage group), 400 ㎎/㎏/day (middle dosage group), 1,000 ㎎/㎏/day (high dosage group) once a day for 4 weeks by oral route according to the Established Regulation of Korea Food and Drug Administration (1996. 4. 16). LD_50 value for beagle dogs was more than 2,000 ㎎/㎏ per oral for both male and females. In animals administered with NWCH, there were neither dead animals nor significant changes of body weights. In addition, no differences were found between control and treated groups in clinical sign, urinalysis, eye examination, hematology, serum chemistry, organ weight and other fingings. No histological lesions were observed in both control and treatment groups. Above data strongly suggset that NWCH in beagle dogs is considered to be safe.

Intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG) has been widely used to treat Guillian-Barre Syndrome(GBS). Aseptic meningitis has been reported as a rare complication of IVIG therapy. This report is on an 30 month-old boy with GBS who suffered from aseptic meningitis following the administration of IVIG. He was given 1 g/kg of IVIG for 2 days, and on the next day after the administration of IVIG, he experienced headache, vomiting and fever. Cerebrospinal fluid showed 76/㎣ white blood cells. The symptoms subsided with 3 days of admission.

金屬薄膜導波管을 利用한 I/O Mode Filter

代表的인 3종류의 金屬薄膜導波管의 TEo-Mode와 TMo-Mode의 특성을 Computer Simulation에 의하여 비교 고찰하였다. 非對稱型平板薄膜導波管으로된 금속박막도파관은 TEo-Mode Filtering이 不可能하였다. 對稱型平板薄膜導波管으로된 금속박막도파관에서는 Film층과 그 외의 층과 굴절율 차이가 0.02 이하가 되면 TEo-Mode Filtering이 가능하며 TMo-Mode 의 損失이 10dB/cm이하가 되어 Mode Filter로서 使用可能함이 밝혀졌다. The typical three kinds of the Metal-Clad waveguides have been chosen, and the characteristics of TEo-Mode and TMo-Mode in them are investigated and compared with each other by computer simulation. TEo-Mode filtering has been impossible in the Metal-Clad waveguide made of the symmetric thin film slab waveguide. In the Metal-Clad waveguide made of the symmetric thin film slab waveguide, if the refraction index difference between the film layer and the other layers is below 0.02, it has made TEo-Mode filtering possible and has had TMo-Mode loss below 10dB/㎝. Therefore it has been improved that it can be used practically as a Mode Filter.
