부신 결핵에 의한 Addison씨병 1예

Addison's disease is a rare primary adrenal insufficient disorder resulting from chronic deficiency of adrenal cortical hormones. Clinical manefestations are generalized weakenss, weight loss, hyperpigmentation (especially sun exposed area and mucous membrane), hypotension, hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, gastrointestinal symptoms (involving anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain). A 34-year-old woman has experienced slowly progressive generalized weakenss and skin pigmentation, anorexia, nausea, vomiting with ascites and diffuse abdominal pain. On the time of admission, her main clinical manifestations were anorexia, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, generalized weakness, amenorrhea, hair loss, diffuse abdominal pain revealed as Addison's disease due to bilateral adrenal tuberculosis. Her adrenal insufficient symptoms were recovered with the replacement of adrenocortical hormones and antituberculous medications. After treatment, Her skin pigmentation was decreased and menstruation was reappeared. Here we experienced one cases of Addison's disease with tuberculous peritonitis.

젓갈로부터 유용 박테리오신 생산균주의 탐색

Bacteriocins are proteins produced by heterogeneous group of bacteria that have a bactericidal effect on closely related organisms. Recently, bacteriocins from lactic acid bacteria(LAB) and other food-related organisms have been the subject of much research of their potential as food biopreservatives. The goal of this study were to isolate LAB from commercial fermented fish products and identify their bacteriocin activity. All bacteriocin-producing isolates were identified as LAB. The NK24, NK34, and SA72 isolates were as identified as Lactococus lactis subsp. Lactis where as SA131 isolate was Lactobacillus brevis according to database of API50 CHL kit. All antimicrobial substance(s) produced from 4 LAB isolates were lost their antibacterial activity completely by treatment of some proteases, which indicate its proteinaceous nature. The bacteriocins produced from NK24, NK34, and SA72 isolate showed broad spectrum of activity when compared to SA131 bacteriocin.

Objectives : Vulnerability marker in biological relatives of schizophrenia may be very useful in identifying the propensity for the development of schizophrenia. This study suggests that the relatives at risk for genetically developing schizophrenia have impairments in several domains of cognition, social function and affective function as a vulnerability marker. Methods : A neurocognitive function test, a social function test and an affective function test were administered to fifteen healthy relatives from families with two or more patients with schizophrenia (geneticallly high risk subjects). Fifteen healthy controls matched for age and gender were recruited in this study. Results : Compared to the control subject, the genetic high risk subjects performed significantly more poorly in the selective attention and recall memory of neurocognitive function. The high dsk subjects also had lower scores in independence-performance and independence-competence of the social function test and emotion control of the affective function test. Conclusion : Selective attention, recall memory, independence-performance, independence-competence and emotion control ability may be a valuable marker for genetic study of schizophrenia.

정신분열병의 임상적 고위험군의 특징 : '서울청년클리닉'의 자연 추적 관찰 예비연구

Objectives : The aims of this study were to identify the intake and following process for subjects at high risk of transition to schizophrenia and to examine the neurocognitive, social, and emotional functions of the subjects compared with healthy controls. Methods : Symptomatic individuals judged at high risk for schizophrenia ('clinical high risk') within Youth Clinic were assessed and followed up. They performed a neurocognitive function test, a social function test and an affective function test. Twenty healthy controls were recruited in this study. Results : Among eighty-two subjects contacted through the Youth clinic, sixteen subjects were judged as the clinical high risk group. Fourteen subjects among the clinical high risk group showed deficits in several domains of neurocognitive functions, such as visual recall memory, verbal short term memory and executive function. Social and affective functions are also impaired in the Cli-nical high risk group compared with healthy controls. Two of 15 subjects (13%) developed a psychotic disorder within 6 months. Conclusion : This study illustrates the state of follow-up study for a clinical high risk group. Despite low numbers and short durations, some impairment of several functions in the clinical high risk group suggests possible predictors of psychosis.

2012년 제주의 양식 넙치 및 자연산 어류의 Kudoa septempunctata 감염 조사

Kudoa septempunctata가 한국의 양식 넙치의 근육에 기생하는 것이 보고되어, 본 연구에서는 2012년동안 제주 지역의 양식 넙치 및 자연산 어류에서 K. septempunctata의 감염 현황을 조사하였다. 제주지역26개소의 넙치 양식장으로부터 143마리를 조사한 결과, 4개소 7마리(4.9%)에서 쿠도아 감염이 확인되었으며, 넙치 치어 67마리에서는 쿠도아가 검출되지 않았다. 또한, 제주 지역에서 어획 된 자연산 어류8종에서도 쿠도아가 검출되지 않았다. 쿠도아가 검출 된 7마리 어류에 대하여 등근육 부위별 쿠도아 검출을 비교하기 위하여, 넙치의 두부쪽에서 채취한등근육, 미부쪽에서 채취한 등근육, 그리고 등근육전체를 긁어 모은 샘플을 사용하여 검출률을 비교한 결과, 전체를 긁어 모든 샘플을 사용할 경우 검출률이100%로 가장 높아, 어느 한 쪽에서 근육을 채취하는 것 보다 등근육 전체 부위를 골고루 채취하는 것이쿠도아 검출에 더 효율적임을 확인하였다. The study surveyed infection rate of Kudoa septempunctata parasitized in the trunk muscle of olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, cultured in Jeju Island and wild fish species caught in the coastal area around Jeju Island during 2012. Among 143 olive flounder that were randomly sampled from 26 different culture farms, K. septempunctata was detected in 7 fish samples (4.9%) from 4 different culture farms, showing no typical Kudoa infestation. However, K. septempunctata was not detected in olive flounder fry sampled from hatcheries and 8 species of wild fish. In addition, we compared 3 different sampling sites on trunk muscle of 7 Kudoa positive fish that included head part, tail part and entire muscle. Among 7 fish, K. septempunctata was detected in 3 fish that were sampled from head part; while 4 fish from tail part of trunk muscle. However, all 7 fish were positive when sampled from entire muscle. Thus, we suggest that it will be more efficient to use entire muscle sample than sampling partial muscle parts for detection of K. septempunctata.

복숭아 품종에 따른 세포벽 성분과 Polygalacturonase 활성 비교

To examin ripening in peach types, cell wall contents and Polygalacturonase activity were compared in Changbang, Daegubo and Yumyung peaches. Among peach types, the hardness of Daegubo was the lowest. Yumyung peach had the highest content of alcohol-insoluble substances and Changbang peach of cell wall. The contents of total and insoluble pectic substances were little different between Changbang and Yumyung peach, while the lowest in Daegubo. Daegubo peach had the highest activity of polygalacturonase, Changbang and Yumyung peach in succession.

Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(carbazolyl-2,7-vinylene) Derivatives for Organic Light-Emitting Diode Applications

Novel electroluminescent polymers, poly[N-(3,4-bis(decyloxy)phenyl)carbazolyl-2,7-vinylene)] (PCzV) and poly[N-(3,4-bis(decyloxy)phenyl)carbazolyl-2,7-vinylene)-co-{2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene}] (PCzV-co-MEH-PPV), which is a series of fully conjugated poly(N-dialkoxyphenylcarbazolyl-2,7-vinylene) derivatives with meta- and para-decyloxy phenyl moieties as a pendant group, were synthesized using the Gilch polymerization method. The resulting polymers were highly soluble in common organic solvents and could be easily spin-coated onto an indium-tin oxide coated glass substrate to obtain high quality optical thin films. The weight-average molecular weight ($M_w$) and polydispersity of PCzV and PCzV-co-MEH-PPV were $3.86{\times}10^4$ and 1.60 and $7.99{\times}10^4$ and 2.05, respectively. Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) were fabricated with the following structures: ITO/PEDOT:PSS/emitting polymer/cathode configurations using either double-layer Ba/Al or triplelayer tris(8-hydroxyquinolinato)aluminum ($Alq_3$)/LiF/Al cathode structures. The maximum brightness and current efficiency were $5,965\;cd/m^2$ and 0.43 cd/A at 10 V.

외국 방사선조사시설 사고 사례

This paper was reviewed on three fatally radiological accidents in San Salvador, El Salvador in 1989[1], at the Sor-Van facility, Israel in 1990[3] and in Nesvizh, Belarus[4]. The accidents happened from the facility faults; the source rack stuck owing to obstruction by cartons on the conveyor in the irradiation position or a jam in the product transport system. On entering to fit the problems, the operators bypassed the safety devices as well as did not weared the radiation badges or the alarm meter for personal monitoring. The operators were exposed to high radiation doses( 3-20 Gy) within a few minutes and developed the acute radiation syndrome, which led to death or cripple. If a defect on the facility or improvement recommended by authorities or expert group is ignored and abnormal operation continued, the resultants can be disastrous. Therefore, it is considered that the high inspection on the irradiation facility and its complementation should be made periodically and the education on the radiation safety and observance of safety procedure on entering the facility are essential for preventing the accidents.
