        A New Species of Amonardia (Copepoda: Harpacticoida: Miraciidae) from the Cultivated Brown Alga, Undaria pinnatifida

        Both sexes of a new species of Miraciidaebelonging to the genus Amonardia Lang, 1948 are described.All materials collected from the cultivated brown alga,Undaria pinnatifida of Gijang, Korea. So far only onespecies, A. normani (Brady, 1872) from the algal bed atJindo Island was recorded in Korea.         First record of the family Cletopsyllidae (Copepoda: Harpacticoida) from Korean waters, with description of a new species

        A new species of the Cletopsyllidae belonging to the genus Isocletopsyllus Huys and Lee, 1999 is described from the materials collected from subtidal sandy bottoms at Jeju Island and Ulleung Island, Korea. So far, only two species of the genus Isocletopsyllus, viz. I. tertius (Por, 1964) from Israel and I. quartus (Soyer, 1966) from Banyuls-sur-Mer (France) are recorded, both from the Mediterranean Ocean. The new species can be clearly distinguished from its congeners by the combination of the following characters: (1) female antennule with a large process on the outer margin of first segment, (2) caudal rami with a bulbous proximal inner expansion, and shorter than those of other species (about four times long as wide in the new species), (3) second segment of P1 exopod with a short rod-like inner seta, (4) sexual dimorphism presented in the second endopodal segment of male P2, not in exopod of P4, and (6) female P5 with a very long exopod with very short second outer seta. A table comparing the modifications of swimming legs in the family Cletopsyllidae Huys and Lee, 1999 is presented. This is the first record of this family from Korea.

        A new species of Alteutha Baird, 1846 (Copepoda: Harpacaticoida: Peltidiidae) from Korean waters, and a short note of Eupelte dokdoensis Song & Lee, 2024

        A new peltidiid species belonging to the genus Alteutha Baird, 1846 is described based on the material from Songjihobrackish lake on eastern coast of Korea. The new species, Alteutha wanae sp. nov. is closely related to A. potter Veit-Köhler & Fuentes, 2007, a species originally described from King George Island, Antarctica, in sharing the setation of P5 rami of both sexes, the shape of maxillipedal basis, setal formulae of swimming legs, P2-P4, and the setation of caudal ramus. Alteutha wanae sp. nov., however, can be differentiated from A. potter by the characters, the number of antennular segment, anterior seta of antennal basis, the length to width ratios of P5 baseoendopod and exopod of both sexes, and male P6. Among benthic harpacticoid copepods collected by benthic surveys in the brackish lakes along the eastern coast of Korea in 1994, a new representative of the genus Alteutha was described and illustrated. In addition, we provide the registration information of Zoobank of Eupelte dokdoensis Song & Lee, 2024, recently collected from the algal bed bottom in Dokdo Island, Korea.

        Distribution pattern and community structure of macrobenthos was studied on the Ansung rocky shore in Chinhae, a southern coastal area of Korea. Sampling was conducted seasonally using a quadrate (50×50cm) from January to October, 1998. A total of over 72 species were occurred. It was comprised of molluscs (33 spp. 45.8%), arthropods (>23 spp.), annelids (>3 spp.), poriferans, cnidarians, echinoderms (3 spp., respectively) and others. Mean density of individual was 8,603 ind./㎡ and mean biomass was 7,065.1 gwwt/㎡. Molluscs were a individual-dominant faunal group with a mean density of 6,945 ind./㎡ which occupied 80.7% of the total individual of benthic animals, and it also represented as a biomass-dominant group with a mean biomass of 6,942.8 gwwt/㎡ (98.5% of total biomass). The major density-dominant species were a bivalve Mytilus edulis (5,957 ind./㎡, 3,405.8 gwwt/㎡) and Crassostrea gigas (636 ind./㎡, 2,800.2 gwwt/㎡). Granulilitorina exigua, Littirina brevicula, Septifer virgatus and Chthamalus challengeri were major individual-dominant species on the vertical rocky shore, and these four species sequently distributed from upper to lower tidal level.

        Responses of N, P and K fertilizer to Aralia elata were observed by pot experiment. The nitrogen content, height and stem diameter in plant increased by increasing N application rates. There was a big difference in the growth and P-uptake between P treatment and control, which indicated that more P application was required in less P-fertilized cultivation field of Aralia elata in the middle mountain of Cheju. However, K-fertilization also didn't show any favorable response to the growth as well as K-uptake. This indicates that K content in test soil was adequate to tree growth. On the other hand, as the N response to tree was most remarkable among three major nutrients, N, P and K. N-fertilization therefore was found very important to the growth of Aralia elata, but the amount of three fertilizers, N, P and K to be applied to the three could not be determined by pot experiments. Because the limited volume of soil in the pot could not gave a satisfactory tree's growth.

        소음환경하에서의 어음명료도와 인지기능과의 상관관계에 대한 분석

        Background and ObjectivesZZSpeech in the noise test has been known to reflect the distortion component of hearing impairment originated not only from the cochlea but also from the central auditory system. For communication with language, a proper cognitive function of the cerebral cortex is essential. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the correlation between the cognitive function and the speech recognition ability against background noise. Subjects and MethodZZThirty one listeners with sensorineural hearing loss in both ear participated in this study. We performed pure a tone audiometry, a speech recognition test with and without multitalker babble noise, a computerized cognitive function test and the Mini-Mental Status Examination-Korea. ResultsZZSpeech recognition score in noise showed significant correlations with the results of both computerized cognitive function test and Mini-Mental Status Examination-Korea, whereas,the pure tone average and speech recognition score in the quiet background did not.         45Ca 표지 칼슘 화합물별 토마토와 감귤의 엽면 흡수율

        Ca은 세포벽의 구성성분이며 세포막의 구조와 기능 그리고 세포의 생리 대사과정에 있어 필수원소이다. 식물세포에 있는 대부분의 Ca은 아포플라스트와 액포 내에 존재하며(Mengel and Kirby, 2001), 세포질내 유리 Ca 농도는 0.1-0.2 mM 정도로 매우 낮다(Felle, 1998; Evans et al., 1991). 따라서 세포질내 유리 Ca 농도의 증가는 생리․생화학적으로 매우 중요한 의미를 가지며 Ca-Calmodulin 복합체의 형성을 매개로 각종 효소를 활성화시켜 여러 생리대사 과정에 관여한다(Marschner, 1995; Mengel and Kirby, 2001) 뿌리에 의한 Ca의 흡수는 근권의 조건 즉, 수분 stress, 염류농도와 온도 등에 의해서 많은 제약을 받을 수 있다(Pill and Lambeth, 1980; Adams and Ho, 1993; Choi et al., 1997; Ho et al., 1993). 또한, Ca은 식물체내 조직 간의 이동이 어려워 결핍되면 어린잎 또는 생장점에서 그 현상이 먼저 발생된다. 그러므로, 원예작물에서도 Ca은 성장과 과실생육에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져 있는 데, 결핍되었을 때 발생하는 생리장해로는 양배추(Palzkill et al., 1976), 상추(Collier, 1982) 또는 딸기의 tipburn(Shear,1975), 토마토의 배꼽썪음과(Dekock et al. 1979; Adams and Ho, 1994), 감귤의 신초고사 등을 들 수 있다. 일반적으로 엽면시비는 뿌리에 의한 특정 양분의 흡수가 제한되어 생리적인 장해가 유발될 가능성이 있을 때 빠른 시일내에 작물의 생육을 정상적으로 회복시키는 데 능률적이며 효과적인 방법으로 알려져 있다. Ca의 엽면시비는 각종 원예작물의 Ca에 의한 생리장해의 회복과 과일의 품질 및 저장성 등에 도움을 주는 것으로 알려져 있다(Wada et al. 1996; Jeong et al. 1998; Moon et al., 1998; Kim and Kim, 1999; Moon et al., 2002; Kim et al., 2004; Kwak et al., 2004). 주로 사용되는 칼슘화합물로는 CaCO3, CaCl2, Ca(NO3)2, Ca(H2PO4)3, Ca-formate, Ca-acetate 등이 있으나(Bramlage et al., 1985; Wada et al., 1996; Jeong et al. 1998; Moon et al., 1998; Cheon and Jeong, 2003), 그 흡수율이 조사되지 않아 과연 어떠한 칼슘 형태가 더 효율적으로 흡수하는 지 잘 알려져 있지 않다. 특히, Ca은 주로 염 형태의 것을 많이 사용하기 때문에 흡수량을 높이기 위해서는 고농도를 사용하거나 농도가 낮은 경우에는 여러번 반복해서 살포하여야 하므로 축적된 염으로 인해 잎이 염해를 받을 우려가 있다. 또한, Ca의 생리 장해가 심각해지기 전에 효율적으로 흡수하는 Ca 화합물의 사용이 중요하다. 그러므로, 본 연구에서는 45Ca 방사성동위원소로 표지된 Ca 화합물별 토마토와 감귤의 엽면 흡수율을 비교하고 칼슘화합물을 엽면시비하였을 때 그 농도별 엽 피해 여부를 조사하였다.
