Adiponectin Attenuates the Inflammation in Atopic Dermatitis-Like Reconstructed Human Epidermis

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic disorder, with a vicious cycle of repetitive inflammation and deterioration of the epidermal barrier function. Adiponectin, an adipokine, has anti-inflammatory effects on various metabolic and inflammatory disorders. Recently, its level was found to be reduced in serum and tissue samples from AD patients. Objective: We aimed to investigate the effects of adiponectin on epidermal inflammation and barrier structures in AD skin. Methods: A three-dimensional in vitro epidermal equivalent model mimicking AD was obtained by adding an inflammatory substance cocktail to normal human epidermal equivalents (HEEs). The expression of epidermal differentiation markers, primary inflammatory mediators, and lipid biosynthetic enzymes was compared between adiponectintreated AD-HEEs, untreated control AD-HEEs, and normal HEEs. Results: Adiponectin co-treatment 1) inhibited the increase in mRNA expression of major inflammatory mediators (carbonic anhydrase II, neuron-specific NEL-like protein 2, thymic stromal lymphopoietin, interleukin-8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and human beta-defensin-2) from keratinocytes in AD-inflammatory HEEs, 2) enhanced the expression of lipid biosynthetic enzymes (fatty acid synthase, HMG CoA reductase, and serine-palmitoyl transferase), and 3) promoted the expression of differentiation factors, especially filaggrin. We also found that the expression of adiponectin receptor-1 and -2 decreased in the epidermis of chronic AD lesion. Conclusion: Activation of the adiponectin pathway is expected to enhance epidermal differentiation and barrier function as well as attenuate inflammatory response to AD as a therapeutic approach. This study deals with the participatory design process of renovating a children's park. The process should proceed with two major elements. Firstly, the children's park should be designed from the perspective of children. Secondly, it should be designed in consideration of the context of the community. This study is divided into two parts. First is the review of theory concerning the meaning and roles of the children's park as a community space, the importance of children's participation in the design and the participatory method of the children. The second is the case study. The site for the case study is Ssial Park in Nowon-Gu, Seoul. The entire process of the case study is with community participation, from identifying the park's problems to the actual construction. At every step, through the participatory programs, the community participates in the decision making. In addition, mutual understanding among participants is pursued through diverse means of communication. The following results of the case study were found. Firstly, diverse participatory programs and the active trial to enable the community to communicate contribute to the sense of ownership and responsibility concerning the park Secondly, the community can negotiate the differences in opinions without needing the help of experts. Of course, there are limits in the case study, such as the fact that the community organization, which is the core of communication and maintenance concerning the park, is not organized through the process of a case study. Another is that more diverse methods, which inform all community members of the participatory process, should have been used.
졸-겔법으로 합성된 폴리이미드/실리카 복합체의 환경적 물성에 관한 연구

Two types of polyimide/silica composite films were prepared using sol-gel method through hydrolysis and polycondensation of tetraethoxsilane(TEOS) with the polyamic acid(PAA) and end-capped PAA solution. Sample were characterized by the means of differential thermogravimetry, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, universal test, impedance analyzer, chemical resistance test, etc. All of the PAA/silanol solutions heat-treated at 300℃ for 6h were transformed to polyimide/silica composites. It has been demonstrated that the properties of polyimide/silica composites were affected by the amount of silica addition and the bond type existed between polyimide and silica.

Interleukin-2 (IL-2) induces T cell proliferation in an autocrine manner and provides a means by which antigen triggered T cells can be clonally expanded in vitro. During the following activation, the activity of IL-2 is mediated by specific high affinity IL-2 binding membrane receptors which are expressed shortly after activation. In this process, a 42 KD-fragment (soluble IL-2R) is continuously cleaved off and circulates as a soluble marker of T lymphocyte activation. Elevated level of soluble IL-2R has been identified in the serum of patients with malignant autoimmune and allergic disorders, systemic parasitic infection, undergoing graft versus host disease, acute or chronic lymphocytic leukemia and HIV-infection. ADA (adenosine deaminase) completes the process of differentiation of T cell and is essential for progression of T cell maturation. Therefore level of ADA is to correlated with magnitude of T cell immune response. The fact that expression of sIL-2R and ADA activity increases in peripheral blood T-lymphocytes of patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis suggests that T cell activation might have a major role in the pathogenesis of pulmonary tuberculosis. In order to evaluate the T cell immune response in pulmonary tuberculosis, we measured the serum concentration of sIL-2R and ADA activity in 17 patients with current pulmonary tuberculosis, 10 chronic inactive pulmonary tuberculosis, 10 as normal controls. (1) Current pulmonary tuberculosis had significantly higher levels of sIL-2R (237.24±95.47)when compared with those of inactive tuberculosis (78.6±11.06). and the control (68.17±15.4) group. (2) ADA activity in current pulmonary tuberculosis was significantly increased (34.41±20.63) when compared with those of inactive tuberculosis (24.7±14.36) and control (17.65± 5.94) group. (3) There was good correlation between sIL-2R concentration and ADA activity in serum in current pulmonary tuberculosis group. (4) sIL-2R concentration and ADA activity was decreased significantly 6 months after anti-tuberculosis drug medication. In conclusion, sIL-2R concentration and ADA activity in serum in current pulmonary tuberculosis group was increased when compared with those of inactive pulmonary tuberculosis and the control group. By the way, T cell mediated immune response was enhanced in current pulmonary tuberculosis, but in inactive chronic pulmonary tuberculosis who had treated by antituberculosis drug medication, the concentration of sIL-2R and ADA activity was nearly normal.

Determination of Limiting Nutrient for Algal Growth by Algal Bioassay. Oh, Hee-Mock, Seog June Lee, Seong-Bin Kim, Mi- Kyung Park, Byung-Dae Yoon and Do-Han Kim (Environmental Microbiology Research Unit, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Taejon 305-333, Korea and Water Resources Research Institute, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Taejon 305-390, Korea) Water quaiity and algal growth potential (AGP) using Microcystis aeruginosa were investigated from April to September 1997 in Daechung Reservoir. Secchi disk transparency was 1.1 m in August. Chlorophyll-a concentrations were higher than 10㎍/l at all samples. Total phosphorus concentration was in a range of 0.020∼0.027mg/l which is at the approximate value of 0.03 mg/l, the general critical level of eutrophication. These results indicate that Daechung Reservoir is in an eutrophic state except some temporary times and restricted sites. Phosphorus uptake rate of M. aeruginosa was higher in the water from the epilimnion than in the hypolimnion and also higher under light condition than under dark condition. Therefore, phosphorus uptake rate appears to depend on cellular phosphorous content and light condition, a meaning of endergonic process. Phosphorus was the most frequently limiting nutrient: phosphorus was limiting algal gowth in April and May, nitrogen, phosphorus and trace elements were the limiting factors for algae in August, and trace elements in September. If a fast growing alga, M, aeruginosa, is used as a test organism for assaying AGP, in vivo fluorescence instead of dry weight can be measured for algal biomass and incubation period can be reduced from traditional 14 days to 7 days.

Purpose: BOOP and NSIP also share similar clinical features such as subacute flu-like illness, the finding of bronchoalveolar lavage, the result of pulmonary function test and more favourable outcome than usual interstitial pneumonia(UIP). The author try to compare the HRCT findings of NSIP with BOOP by pattern and distribution of diseases. Materials and Methods: HRCT findings of histopathologically proven NSIP(Group Ⅰ; 6, Group Ⅱ; 7, Group Ⅲ; 2) in 15 patients(5 male, 10 female, age range, 39-69 years; mean age, 53 years), BOOP in 15 patients(6 male, 9 female, age range, 26-76 years; mean age, 52 years) were reviewed retrospectively. Results: The common pattern of the two diseases was admixed consolidation, ground glass attenuation & reticular densities with/without architectural distortion(NSIP; 53.3%, BOOP; 46.7%). The main component of the pattern wan predominantly consolidation(NSIP; 46.7%, BOOP; 73.3%) and ground glass attenuation(NSIP; 40.0%, BOOP;20.0%). Architectural distotion was more provinent finding with NSIP(mild ; 3, moderate ; 4, severe; 2) compared with BOOP(mild; 7, moderate; 2, severe; 0). The predominant overall distribution was lower lung, peribronchovascular & peripheral lung field in both of the two entities(NSIP;73.3%, BOOP; 73.3%). Peribronchovascular involvement was more common with NSIP(100%) than BOOP(80%), whereas peripheral involvement was more common with BOOP(93.3%) than NSIP(80%). Conclusion: The HRCT findings of NSIP and BOOP were similar in pattern and distribution. But NIP manifested more frequently ground-glass attenuation, whereas BOOP showed more frequently consolidation. Architectural distortion was more severe with NSIP than BOOP. NSIP invoved more frequently peribronchovascular space and BOOP were more common in peripheral lung field.

본 연구는 한국 청소년들의 도덕적 품성화 능력을 측정하기 위한 검사 도구를 개발하기 위한 것으로 2011년도에 개발된 검사 도구를 수정 및 보완한 것이다. 즉, J. Rest가 주장한 도덕성의 제4요소인 도덕적 품성화에 관한 선행연구들을 체계적으로 분석하여 도덕적 품성화의 개념을 보다 명확히 하였고, 1차년도에 설정한 도덕적 품성화의 구성 요소를 개인품성과 관계품성의 두 항목으로 재설정하였다. 또한 검사의 신뢰도와 타당도를 높이기 위해 기존의 스토리와 문항을 수정하였다. 응답의 편포성을 완화하기 위해 2차년도에는 7점 척도를 사용하였다. 예비조사는 전국 중학교 2학년생 409명을 대상으로 실시되었고, 본조사는 전국 6,216명의 중학교 2학년생을 대상으로 실시되었다. 개발된 검사도구의 신뢰도계수(문항 내적 일치도인 크론바흐 알파)는 .90이상으로 신뢰할만했다. 타당도를 확보하기 위해 요인분석을 실시했는데, 도덕적 품성화 능력 검사는 1개 문항을 제외하고 모든 문항이 예정된 요인으로 묶였다. 그리하여 2차년도 연구를 통한 최종 스토리는 총 세 개(과제, 놀이공원, 작품)로 확정되었고, 각 스토리별 문항수는 과제 10개 문항, 놀이공원 9개 문항, 작품 10개 문항으로 총 29개 문항으로 확정되었다. 2차년도 연구결과 개정된 검사 도구는 2011년 검사 도구에 비해 더 안정된 검사도구로서 향후 청소년의 도덕적 품성화 측정을 위한 연구와 실무에 활용될 수 있을 것이다. The study aims to revise Moral Character Test I which was set for adolescents based on Rest`s four components model in 2011 and make standardized final morality test. In theory, this study is based on the four components theory of James Rest who invented DIT (Defining Issues Test) to measure the moral judgment. The four components are composed of moral sensitivity, moral judgment, moral motivation, and moral character (or moral implementation, moral action). This study focused on moral character. This 2nd year study could get some significant outcomes. To make test form, 3 components relating teams have closely exchanged informations. Because teams have to share same real life stories as follows: “homework inspect”, “on going to park”, “broken art work”. The questionnaire used seven likert type to lessen the far epistemological tendency. To represent moral character, research team used personal character and interpersonal character. To get final form of morality test, this study was made two sequential steps. First one was pre-test which was for 409 respondents. Second main one was for 6,216 respondents. For moral character, the reliability was highly coefficient with Cronbach`s alpha(>.90). The validity was also much improved and stable. But just in the story “on going to park”, the factor analysis shows a little bit limitation result. Even though, 1st and 2nd researches have common weak point which is highly dependent upon not factor but story. Through these processes, to test moral motivation, this study shows 3 stories and 29 questions. And this recommends that just one simple story might be developed for one component(moral character).

Rest의 4구성요소 모형을 바탕으로 1차년도(2011년)에 개발된 도덕적 동기화 검사를 보다 신뢰롭고 타당한 도구로 개정하는 것이다. 따라서 선행연구를 보완하여 도덕 동기화의 구성 요소를 도덕지향성과 도덕적 정서귀인 등 두 항목으로 재설정하고, 스토리와 문항을 수정하였다. 개발된 세 개의 스토리(과제, 놀이공원, 작품) 별로 신뢰도를 분석한 결과, 전반적으로 .90 내외의 높고 수치를 보였다. 응답의 편포성을 완화하기 위해 2차년도에는 7점 척도를 사용하였다. 예비조사를 위해서는 전국 중학교 2학년생 409명을 대상으로 했고, 본조사를 위해서는 전국 6,216명의 중학교 2학년생을 대상으로 실시하였다. 개발된 검사도구의 신뢰도계수(문항 내적 일치도인 크론바흐 알파)는 .90이상으로 신뢰할만했다. 타당도를 검증하기 위하여 요인분석을 실시한 결과, 과제 스토리와 놀이공원 스토리의 일부 문항이 가정한 요인으로 잘 묶이지 않았는데 이 문항들을 제거하고 요인분석을 다시 실시해본 결과 기대하는 바를 충족했다. 그리하여 2차년도 연구를 통해 최종 스토리는 총 세 개(과제, 놀이공원, 작품)로 확정되었고, 각 스토리별 문항수는 과제 9개 문항, 놀이공원 9개 문항, 작품 10개 문항으로 총 28개 문항으로 확정되었다. 본 연구를 통해 수정 확정된 도덕적 동기화 검사도구는 상당히 안정적인 신뢰도와 타당도를 확보하였기에, 향후 우리나라 청소년의 도덕적 동기화 능력을 측정하기 위한 검사도구로 활용되기에 적절할 것으로 판단된다. But just in the story “homework inspect”and “on going to park”, the factor analysis shows a little bit limitation result. Eliminated those questions, the result of factor analysis was more stable and reliable. Through these processes, to test moral motivation, this study shows 3 stories and 28 questions. And this recommends that just one simple story might be developed for one component(moral motivation).

We experienced a 25 year-old male patient with typhoid fever complicated with massive hemoptysis. Pulmonary complication in typhoid fever is very rare and to our knowledge, there has been no report of hemoptysis as a main cause of death with this disease. We herein report a rare case of typhoid fever.

We consider the problem of modeling count data where the observation period is determined by the life time of the repairable system under marginal frailty model with homogeneous times and heterogeneous counts. And we show the structure and the properties of the developed models. We assume frailty models to allow for unobservable environment effects. We assume that the death times follow a Weibull distribution with a hazard rate. For the counts, given a frailly, a Poisson process is assumed with the intensity depending on time. A gamma distribution is assumed for the frailty model. Maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are obtained.
