In the late 60s the radical german student movement took issue with Emergency Power Act and Springer Press-Group in the domestic political conditions. The radical german students understood these political and social issues not only as crisis of democray but also as post-fascistic symptoms, which they had interpreted in terms of neo-marxist fascism anlaysis. After all, the revolt of german students intended to criticize the politic and social system and formal democray in the Federal Republic of German since 1945 and to create new democratc plan. In the concrete praxis, howere, their critique was inclined to use violence.
Review of Disinfection and Sterilization – Back to the Basics
유진홍 대한감염학회 2018 Infection and Chemotherapy Vol.50 No.2
In-depth knowledge of disinfection and sterilization is a key component of infection control. Sterilization completely removes a spore, whereas disinfection cannot. Disinfectants are classified as oxidants and non-oxidants. The decision regarding which method to apply is based on Spaulding’s classification. In this article, disinfection and sterilization are thoroughly reviewed, and extensive information from basic to practical points is discussed.
Convalescent Plasma Therapy for Corona Virus Disease 2019: a Long Way to Go but Worth Trying
유진홍 대한의학회 2020 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.35 No.14
As of 3 April, the number of patients with corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Korea has exceeded 10,000. The incidence of COVID-19 patients still shows no sign of diminishing. Now is the time to prepare for the protracted war ahead. Hence we need to find a specific treatment measure against COVID-19. Regrettably, however, no definite treatment has been available yet. Nevertheless, various treatments, including old and new antiviral agents, are currently being investigated.1 As one of them, convalescent plasma administration has been carefully proposed.2,3

Ventriculitis and nosocomial meningitis are major infectious complications after neurosurgery. Determining whether fever after neurosurgery is infectious origin or not should be meticulously performed. Cell index >5 could be a reliable parameter for the decision to empirical treatment before microbiological documentation. Antimicrobials should be prudently chosen on the basis of risk factors (craniotomy, ventricular catheterization, trauma such as basal skull fracture) and of the pharmacokinetic properties along with blood-brain-barrier (BBB) permeability. Antimicrobials which have poor permeability to the BBB, glycopeptide as an example, could be administered via intrathecal route. If microbiological documentation is obtained after empirical treatment, the regimen should be adjusted according to the result of culture and sensitivity.
The Infinity War: How to Cope with Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae
유진홍 대한의학회 2018 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.33 No.40
Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are now spread worldwide. In Korea, the number of CRE isolation is rapidly increasing, and impending endemicity is a concern. To cope well with CRE, thorough infection control, such as active surveillance, early detection, strict contact precaution, cleaning the environment, and antibiotic stewardship is very important. Therapeutic options include polymyxin, tigecycline, fosfomycin or the combination of them with carbapenem, which is currently the mainstay of treatment. In addition, various combination regimens with new carbapenemase inhibitors such as avibactam, vaborbactam, or relebactam, and other classes of antimicrobials such as plazomicin and siderophore cephalosporin are in the process of evaluation.
Has the Incidence of Acute Pyelonephritis Increased in Korea? – Big Data as a Double-edged Sword
유진홍 대한의학회 2018 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.33 No.49
In the medical field, a vast amount of raw data is constantly being produced daily. Then, the raw data are gathered to build big data, which are waiting for medical researchers to use it. Since the government and public institutions have started to provide big data for the medical field, a lot of medical papers using them have been published. For example, in the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA, Wonju, Korea), the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS, Wonju, Korea), or the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES, Cheongju, Korea), huge data are now available. This can be used to analyze the occurrence and trend of diseases. Especially, it is very useful for investigating a disease that cannot be analyzed by single institutional data alone. You can also analyze the risk factors of the disease, the nature of the treatment, and the costs associated with the disease. In addition, because of the enormous amount of data, significant conclusions can be drawn from statistical tests.1,2
