A 6 years old Schunauzer dog (7.2kg, intact female) with history of hematuria for two days was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. Complete blood cell count showed no significant abnormalities and serum chemistry profile showed increased phosphate profile. On urinanalysis, there was evidence of bacterial infection. On ultrasonographic evaluation, irregular renal contour and increased echogenecity, pelvic and uretral dilation, and thickening of urinary bladder wall were observed. Based on these finding, the dog was diagnosed as pyelonephritis. The dog was treated with antibiotics based on antimicrobial susceptibility test results, then successfully resolved after 8 weeks of treatment.
철근 콘크리트 연속 유공 깊은 보의 전단내력에 관한 해석적 연구

The purpose of this report is investigation of shear behaviors of the deep beam through non-lineal Finite Element Method based on experimental results of continuous deep with opening. Optimum condition for analysis was selected by means of adopting various material property as variables, and additional models including different position of opening selected as variables was simulated. Also experimental result was calibrated by two formula suggested by AIJ and CIRIA, considering effect of opening in the continuous deep beams. As a result of calibration, it is possibly estimated that shear strength formula suggested by AIJ(the Architectural Institute of Japan) can be also adopted as formula for continuous beam. It is expected that results of this research which evaluated shear behavior of the continuous deep beam through non-lineal Finite Element Method can be applied data for reinforcement in the vicinity of opening in the continuous deep beams.
관류 심장과 심장 세포에서 Insulin에 의한 Mg^(2+) 유리 조절

It is well known that β-adrenergic stimulation increases the intracelluar cAMP concentration through activation of adenylate cyclase (AC) and evokes marked Mg^(2+) release in the heart, liver, and kidney. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of insulin on isoproterenol (ISO), norepinephrine (NE), forskolin (FOS), cAMP, or dimaprit (DMP) induced Mg^(2+) efflux from the perfused rat or guinea pig heart and isolated myocytes. We hypothesized that insulin would regulate Mg^(2+) efflux induced by AC activators and cAMP analogues because insulin activates phosphodiesterase (PDE) in the hearts. The Mg^(2+) content in the perfusate was significantly higher in the presence than in the absence of insulin. The addition of ISO, NE, FOS, or cAMP to perfused rat or guinea pig heart and isolated myocytes induced a marked Mg^(2+) efflux. These effluxes were inhibited by insulin. The Mg^(2+) efflux could also be induced by DMP, a histamine H2-receptor agonist, in the perfused guinea pig heart and isolatd myocytes. This effect was also inhibited by insulin. In rat heart and myocytes, the histamine H2-receptor agonist had no effect on Mg^(2+) efflux. In conclusion, these data suggest that insulin regulates Mg^(2+) homeostasis and the inhibitory effect of insulin on adrenoceptor-stimulation or AC activation induced Mg^(2+) efflux may occur through a regulation of cAMP pathway in rat and guinea pig hearts.

Three analogs of ETH6024 were designed and synthesized as possible ionophores of carbonate ion considering the electronic effect of the para-substituents of the trifluoroacetophenone derivatives. In addition, the other three compounds were also designed and synthesized considering the entropic effect to form 1 : 1 complexes with carbonate ion. These syntheses were performed by N-alkylations of secondary amides followed by hydrolyses and trifluoroacetylbenzoylations.

We estimate the ground state energy and wavefunction in the biased quantum well structure by using the periodic boundary condition. In this calculation, we assumed that the probability of finding the particle has maximum value at the ground state energy and the amplitude of the wavefunction should not depend on a period. The obtained energy value was in good agreement with the result predicted by the complex energy method.

Periosteal osteosarcoma is a distinct entity of malignant bone tumor with characteristic clinical, morphological, and histological features within the group of juxtacortical osteosarcoma. Periosteal osteosarcoma is predominantly located in the tubular long bones, and extremely rarely involving the jaws. A case of periosteal osteosarcoma of the right mandible is presented. A 27-year-old woman complained of the gingival swelling and bleeding tendency of the right posterior mandible. Clinical examination revealed a reddish brown strawberry-like swelling on the affected mucosa, which measured 1.5㎝×1.5㎝. The tumor was located on the lingual cortex of the mandible and extended into the surrounding soft tissues. Microscopically, the tumor consisted exclusively of atypical chondroblastic cells with a small osteoblastic area. A minimal bone marrow involvement was noted and the adjacent cortex was free of tumor. These findings suggested that the tumor originated from the periosteal cambium layer, which lies between the periosteal fibrous layer and the cortex of mandible.
불소도포가 교정환자의 타액내 Streptococcus mutans 수에 미치는 영향

The effect of topical application on the number of S. mutans was tested in a group of 44 orthodontic patients (mean age, 12Y 3M). They were divided into 5 groups according to the method using NaF and SnF₂. The number of S. mutans CFU were counted in stimulated saliva of each subject at baseline, and after one, two, three, and eight weeks. The following results were obtained. 1. In NaF rinsing group, and NaF topical application and NaF rinsing group, the number of S. mutans per ㎖ saliva was not significantly changed. 2. In SnF₂topical application group, and SnF₂topical and NaF rinsing group, the number of S. mutans per ㎖ saliva was significantly reduced. 3. After 8 weeks, there were no significant reduction of the number of S. mutans in comparison with baseline.

Gastritis cystica profunda (GCP) is a rare disease characterized by gastric foveolae elongation along with hyperplasia and cystic dilatation of the gastric glands extending into the tissue beneath the submucosa. GCP mainly develops at the gastroenterostomy stoma but can arise in a stomach that has not undergone surgery. The proposed pathogenesis is related to chronic inflammation, ischemia and the presence of a foreign body. GCP may present as a submucosal tumor, Polyp or a giant gastric mucosal fold. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is an effective diagnostic method for differentiating GCP from protruding and elevated gastric lesions. We report a case of GCP along with the endoscopic and EUS findings that were indistinguishable from a malignant submucosal tumor.
