        Real World Experience with Regdanvimab Treatment of Mild-to-Moderate Coronavirus Disease-19 in a COVID-19 Designated Hospital of Korea

        Background Real-world clinical data concerning regdanvimab, a monoclonal antibody treatment for patients with mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), are urgently needed. Here, we describe our experience with regdanvimab. Materials and Methods This retrospective cohort study enrolled high-risk adults with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who were admitted to a dedicated COVID-19 hospital in Korea from March to September 2021. We used multiple logistic regression and propensity score-matching to compare the outcomes of patients who did or did not receive regdanvimab. The primary outcome was in-hospital progression to severe or critical status, or death. Results Of 586 patients eligible for regdanvimab, 256 patients who received regdanvimab and 251 untreated patients were included. The median age was 66 years and 47.5% were men. The most common underlying illnesses were hypertension (53.8%) and diabetes (36.9%). Patients were admitted to the hospital at a median of 2 days after symptom onset; regdanvimab was administered at a median of 3 days after symptom onset. Multivariate analysis indicated that regdanvimab significantly reduced the risk of disease progression during hospitalization [odds ratio (OR): 0.285; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.144 - 0.564]. In a 1:1 propensity score-matched cohort (172 patients in either group), regdanvimab also decreased the risk of progression (OR: 0.162; 95% CI: 0.068 - 0.386). Conclusion In high-risk patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19, regdanvimab decreased the risk of progression to severe COVID-19.         저 Pb Sn-5%Pb-1.5%Ag-x%In계 솔도 합금의 특성에 관한 연구

        Pb의 환경오염 문제를 발생하지 않는 저농도 Pb 솔도합금을 개발하기 위하여, 새로운 Sn-5%Pb-1.5%Ag-x%In계 합금 조성을 설계하고, 이 합금의 융점, 젖음성, 상분석, 경도, 인장강도, 드로스성을 평가하여, Sn-37%Pb 솔더오 대체 가능성을 타진하였다. Sn-37%Pb 솔도 합금의 Pbdldhs 용출농도는 국제규제치인 3ppm보다 훨씬 적은 0.46ppm이었고, 환경문제를 유발하지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 이 합금계의 융점은 $183-192^{\circ}C$이고, 응고온도범위도 $5^{\circ}C$내외로 매우 좁았다. 젖음성은 In의 첨가양에 따라 큰 차이가 거의 없었으며, Sn-375Pb와 비슷하였다. 융점 및 젖음성 측면에서 Sn-37%Pb와 대체 가능한 것으로 판단되었다. 경도는 Sn-37%Pb의 약 1.5배이고, 인장강도는 Sn-37%Pb의 것보다 높고, In의 첨가량에 따라 증가하였지만, 연신율은 감소하였다. In이 1% 첨가된 합금에서는 수지 상정 경계에 Ag3Sn과 Pb가 정출되고, 3% 이상에서는 $Ag_3Sn$과 $Ag_3In$ 및 Pb가 정출되었다. 드로스 생성속도는 Sn-37%Pb 합금이 Sn-5%Pb-1.5%Ag 합금보다 빠르고, In을 첨가할수록 느리고 2%의 In을 첨가한 합금은 180분에서도 거의 드로스가 발생하지 않았다. This work designed Sn-5%Pb-1.5%Ag-x%In solder alloy to develop the solder alloy with low Pb content. This solder alloy doesn't cause environmental pollution. and this study reviewed the probability of replacement of Sn-37%Pb solder as evaluation of melting range, wettability. microstructure, microhardne'ss, tensile strength, drossability of this new solder alloys. The level of international regulation in dissolution amount of Pb ion was 3ppm. But dissolution amount of Pb ion in Sn-5%Pb solder alloy confirmed not to threat the global environmental is 0.46ppm. The melting range of this solder alloy was $183-192^{\circ}C$. Also the range of solidification was very narrow within $5^{\circ}C$. The wettability was similar to Sn-37%Pb solder, and the effect of amount of In addition of wettability couldn't be founded. The probability of replacement in the melting range and wettability is very high. And microhardness of this solder alloy was 1.5 times of conventional type solder. Tensile strength of new solder alloys was a little high than that of conventional type solder. With increasing amount of In% addition, tensile strength was increased, but elongation was decreased. The solder alloy of l%In addition revealed AgSn and Pb on dendrite microstructure boundary, and $Ag_3Sn$, $Ag_3In$ and Pb were revealed on it at the solder alloy of 3% In addition. The drossability was superior to Sn-37%Pb solder alloy and the solder alloys of 2% In addition was not generated for 3hrs.

        <i>In vitro</i> and <i>in vivo</i> evaluation of a novel polymer-free everolimus-eluting stent by nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide film deposition

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Inflammation and thrombosis are linked to the use of polymer-based drug-eluting stents (DES). The aim of this study was to develop a polymer-free everolimus (EVL)-eluting stent using nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide (N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB>) and verify its efficacy by <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I> assessment in a porcine coronary model. Various analytical approaches such as scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy, electron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and contact angle measurement were employed for the characterization. As a part of biocompatibility assessment, platelet adhesion and smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation were examined. Bare metal stent (BMS), N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> stent, everolimus-eluting N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> (N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-EVL) stent, and commercialized EVL-eluting stent (EES) were randomly placed in forty coronary arteries in twenty pigs. After four weeks of implantation, the stents were subjected to histological and quantitative analysis. The N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film used in this study was well coated without any cracks or peeling. Surface hydrophilicity (88.8% of angle decrement) could be associated with the decrease in surface roughness post N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> deposition (37.0%). The platelet adhesion on the N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> surfaces was less than that on the BMS surface. The proliferation of SMC was suppressed in the N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-EVL group (30.2%) but not in the BMS group. In the animal study, the percent area restenosis was significantly decreased in the N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-EVL group compared to that in the BMS group. The results (BMS; 47.0 ± 11.00%, N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB>-EVL; 31.7 ± 10.50%, and EES; 29.1 ± 11.21%, <I>n</I> = 10, <I>p</I> < 0.05) were almost at par with those of the commercialized EVL-eluting stent. The introduction of N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> deposition during fabrication of polymer-free DES may be an efficient accessorial process for preventing in-stent restenosis and thrombosis.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> surfaces can help to reduce the platelet adhesion. </LI> <LI> In porcine model, N-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> everolimus decreased in-stent restenosis and fibrin deposition. </LI> </UL> </P>

        In this study a few laboratory teaching materials have been developed to be available for the effective performance of experiments and practices- a heart of inquiry learning-as a continuance of 'A study on the Development of Laboratory Teaching Materials for Middle School Science Course I' The present condition of science education has been investigated by means of questionaires, interviews and literature, the results of the present condition and problems in junior high schools are as follows: 1. The hours for science classes are considerably little for the teaching contents of science textbooks. 2. The level of teaching is beyond the student's capability in terms of their experience and intellectual development. 3. Science teachers are overburdened with much tasks, and laboratories and laboratory facilities are too insufficient and furthermore teaching is mainly conducted on the lecture method as a preperation for various entrance exams. 4. Teachers' eagerness and desirable attitude for teaching are required. In this study, materials for every branch of science have been developed to be available for the effective performance of experiments and practices through inquiries. The materials developed in this study are as follows: 1. In physics, measure apparatus of extremely small masses, length, and very little time intervals are developed. 2. In chemistry, new methods for gas generating apparatus and materials. are developed. 3. In biology, the size of quadrate and the method to decide the time in facilitating for the purpose of survey of botany community are introduced. The results of the investigation of natural enemy on Hyphantria cunea, and the study on collecting, breeding of Planaria are also shown. 4. In earth science, the laboratory teaching materials are developed for observing continuous spectrum and line spectrum. Putting the above results of study together, the suggestions are made to the effect as follows: 1. The quantity of learning should be reduced and the levels lowered in the new textbooks. 2. The development and distribution of various teaching materials(film, T,P., cassettes film, supplementary, textbook, program teaching material, individual learning material) is required. 3. The experimental instruments should be timely manufactured and distributed on the basis of effective administrative support to ensure their solidity and accuracy. 4. The concrete design to eliminate the teacher's burden should be contrived and the system for senion teachers in charge of science teaching in secondary schools, should be improved. 5. Teacher's research activities should be encouraged through various research institutes(Institute of science education , graduate school of education and the other research institutes.) 6. The disposition of laboratory assistant should be considered. 7. More positive supports from other societies relevant with education are much expected to be made.

        혈액 내 구리, 아연 및 ceruloplasmin 농도에 흡연, 음주 및 신체적 활동이 미치는 영향

        Objectives : To investigate the influence of smoking, alcohol ingestion, and physical activity on copper and zinc in RBC and serum and serum ceruloplasmin, this study was performed in a cross-sectional study in 113 healthy men aged 20 to 40 years who had no symptomatic liver, heart, gastrointestinal, and other chronic diseases. Methods : At the men's entry into the study, blood samples were drawn from each subject and immediately centrifuged for analysis of copper, zinc, iron, ceruloplasmin, total cholesterol, and hematocrit. Each man completed a questionnaire that provided information on smoking, amount of alcohol intake, and physical activity. Partial regression analysis was performed on confounding variables such as age, body mass index, hematocrit, serum cholesterol, and serum iron. Results : In general linear models, adjustment for confounding variables did not show statistical differences, and there was only an increasing tendency in serum copper in heavy smoker(P=0.0678). There was no difference between high physical activity with mild smokers and lower physical with heavy smokers. Conclusions : This study suggested that copper, zinc and ceruloplasmin were not good biomarker for early effect by smoking, alcohol intake and physical activity in young adult. However, selection bias should be considered in evaluation of this result, and a large prospective study will be needed in advance on usefulness of copper, zinc and ceruloplasmin as a marker for risk factors and early change of atherosclerosis.

      • 오리 鼻腔 및 鼻粘膜上皮의 計測에 관한 硏究

        The area of the various epithelial types linging the nasal navity of each six number in 1-week-old and 10-week-old adult ducks has been made for the light microscopic research. Transverse sections of 10 microns thick in each specimen were made continuously from the anterior end of nostril to the posterior end of pharyngeal inlet and specimen samples were selected at 0.13mm(1-week-old) and 0.17mm(10-week-old) intervals from the anterior end of the nasal cavity to the posterior end of pharyngeal inlet. The results obtained from research were summarized as follows. 1. The nasal cavity is lined with stratified squamous, respiratory and olfactory epithelium. The thickness of stratified squamous, respiratory and olfactory epithelium is 10-100㎛, 8-75㎛ and 50㎛ respectively in 1-week-old ducks, and 25-175㎛, 20-125㎛ and 66㎛ respectively in 10-week-old ducks. 2. The unilateral volumes of the nasal cavity in 1-week-old and 10-week-old ducks were 21.73±2.64㎟, 1,692.44±171.57㎟ respectively. 3. The total unilateral surface areas of the nasal cavity in 1-week-old and 10-week-old ducks were 70.44±4.92㎟, 1,772.45±94.10㎟ respectively. 4. Each area of the stratified squamous epithelium, respiratory epithelium and olfactory epithelium in unilateral nasal cavity is 14.82±1.85㎟ (21.1%), 46.86±3.20㎟ (66.5%) and 8.76±0.40㎟ (12.4%) in the 1-week-old ducks, and 348.23±40.02㎟ (19.7%), 1,282.31±47.03㎟ (72.3%) and 141.90±12.43㎟ (8.0%) in the 10-week-old ducks. Ducks are assumed as a microsmatic animals by the composition of the lining epithelium of the nasal cavity in ducks.

      • 妊娠中督症을 同伴한 妊婦의 胎盤內 免疫globulins, 補體(C₃) 및 纖維素源 沈着에 關한 免疫組織化學的 硏究

        Nowadays, it is generally accepted that immunological mechanisms are relevant in the materno-fetal relationship. And the abnormal deviation of maternal immune response to paternally derived or organ specific antigens is proposed as the pathogenesis of toxemia. The primary site of antigen-antibody reaction will be the choriodecidual junction because it is the area of direct contact and exchange between mother and feto-placental unit. Therefore this investigation has focused on the term placenta of toxemic women and demonstrated more heavier deposits of IgG, IgM, and fibrinogen in the villi of toxemic placenta than that of normal placenta by the treatment of deparaffinized specimen with anti-immunoglobulins antiserum and avidin-biotinylated peroxidase. The most striking reactions were produced by anti-IgG, anti-IgM, and anti-fibrinogen antiserum in this series. The followings are more detailed results. 1. Anti-IgG antiserum routinely reacted within the syncytiotrophoblast, the peripheral surface of the chorionic villi, as segmental or linear fashion. The staining was not seen in all villi and the pattern was granular or smooth with some areas of villi being more intensively stained than others. The degree and extent of staining were more dense and wide-spread in the placenta of toxemia than that of normal. 2.Anti-IgA antiserum reacted weakly and focally along with the surface of villi as segmental fashion. No difference of staining was noted between toxemic and normal placenta. 3. One of the most striking reaction was produced by anti-IgM antiserum. The pattern and distribution of staining were similar to anti-IgG antiserum treated specimen. There was noticeable difference in the degree and extent of staining between the placenta of toxemia and normal. 4. Generally, anti-complement (C₃) antiserum reacted weakly and focally. This finding stressed the immunological concept of toxemia. 5. One of the prominent reaction was also produced by anti-fibrinogen antiserum. The densely and homogeneously stained areas along the peripheral surface of the chorionic villi were impressive. The widely spreaded staining areas were also noted in the inter-villous spaces and fibrinoid(degeneration) areas which was connected to trophoblastic basement membrane as interrupted fashion. The degree and extent of staining produced by anti-fibrinogen antiserum had the most striking difference between the placenta of toxemia and normal. Above results may allow the conclusion that the more intense immunohistologic or histochemical changes in the placenta of toxemic pregnancy imply that toxemia has definite immunologic background different from that of normal pregnancy.

        The diagnostic requirements were suggested and explained regarding the systems of differentiation of symptoms and signs in the third year study of standardization and unification of the terms and conditions used for diagnosis in oriental medicine. The systems were as follows : - analyzing and differentiating of epidemic febrile disease - analyzing and differentiating in accordance with the Sasang constitution medicine based on four-type recognition - differentiation of disease according to pathological changes of Chong and Ren channels - standards for diagnosis of women's disease - standards for diagnosis of children's disease - standards for diagnosis of motor and sensor disturbance (-muscle. born, joint, etc.) - standards for diagnosis of neuropsychiatric disease - standards for diagnosis of five sense organ disease - standards for diagnosis of external disease The indivisual diagnosis pattern was arranged by the diagnostic requirements in the following order : another name, notion of diagnosis pattern, index of differentiation of symptoms and signs, the main point of diagnosis, analysis of diagnosis pattern, discrimination of diagnosis pattern, prognosis, a way of curing a disease, prescription, herbs in common use, disease appearing the diagnosis pattern, documents. The standards for diagnosis of each disease was arranged by the diagnostic requirements in the following order : another name, notion of disease, the main point of diagnosis, analyzing and differentiating of disease, analysis of disease, discrimination of disease, prognosis, a way of curing and prescription of disease, disease in western medicine appearing the disease in oriental medicine, documents.

      • 불안과 뇌파와의 관계에 관한 연구

        This study was interested in how different the type pf EEG(Electroencephalograph) is according to the levels of trait and/or state anxiety. Particularly, & respinse of EEG In each anxiety level (high - and low level) was mesaured, and each anxiety level was compared in terms of the ratio of the & wave to the total wave. Two hypotheses were postulated as follows: Ⅰ. & respponse would be different according to trait anxiety level. The ratio of & response to the wave of high anxiety group would be higher than that of low anxiety group in resting situation. Ⅱ. & response would be different according to anxiety level in stressful situation. Junior high school students (48 girls) with the age range of 15 to 16 years were given by questoinnaire to measure the anxiety level. Some items were selected from PIC (the Personality Inventory for Children)and revised for the young students. The upper 10% of the score was selected as high anxiety group (5 girls) and the lower 10% as low anxiety group (5 girls). In both resting - and stressful sityation, EEG was recorded and compaired to both high anxiety - and low anxiety group. The results were that 1) in resting situation, the & response to the total wave on Cz and T3 in high anxiety group was higher than tnat in low anxiety group 2) in stressful situation, & response Cz and T3 in low anxiety group was not any significant change although & response in high anxiety group was increased, and 3)there was not significant difference in & response on O1, known as a part that & response is frequently recorded, in terms of anxiety and experimental condition, These results supported both hypotesis Ⅰ and Ⅱ, and were consistent with the prvious data of Siciliani(1975) and Nowak(1981). The study, as first study to examine the realtionship between anxiety and physiological data, showed that physiological index could be useful in testing of the problems of young students in school.

        Effectiveness of Drug-Eluting Stents versus Bare-Metal Stents in Large Coronary Arteries in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

        <P>This study compared clinical outcomes of drug-eluting stents (DES) versus bare-metal stents (BMS) in large coronary arteries in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI). A total of 985 patients who underwent single-vessel percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in large coronary arteries (≥ 3.5 mm) in lesions < 25 mm were divided into DES group (n = 841) and BMS group (n = 144). Clinical outcomes during 12 months were compared. In-hospital outcome was similar between the groups. At six months, death/MI rate was not different. However, DES group had significantly lower rates of target-lesion revascularization (TLR) (1.7% vs 5.6%, <I>P</I> = 0.021), target-vessel revascularization (TVR) (2.2% vs 5.6%, <I>P</I> = 0.032), and total major adverse cardiac events (MACE) (3.4% vs 11.9%, <I>P</I> = 0.025). At 12 months, the rates of TLR and TVR remained lower in the DES group (2.5% vs 5.9%, <I>P</I> = 0.032 and 5.9% vs 3.1%, <I>P</I> = 0.041), but the rates of death/MI and total MACE were not statistically different. The use of DES in large vessels in the setting of acute MI is associated with lower need for repeat revascularization compared to BMS without compromising the overall safety over the course of one-year follow-up.</P>
