        Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

        한국인 직무 스트레스 측정도구의 개발 및 표준화

        Background and Purposes: Over the past three decades, numerous studies performed in Korea have reported that job stress is a determinant risk factor for chronic diseases and work disability. Every society has its own culture and occupational climate particular to their organizations, and hence experiences different occupational stress. An occupational stress measurement tool therefore needs to be developed to estimate it objectively. The purpose of this study is to develop and standardize the Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS) which is considered to be unique and specific occupational stressors in Korean employees. Subjects and Methods: Data were obtained from the National Study for Development and Standardization of Occupational Stress (NSDSOS Project: 2002-2004). A total of 12,631 employees from a nationwide sample proportional to the Korean Standard Industrial Classification and the Korean Standard Occupational Classification were administered. The KOSS was developed for 2 years (2002-2004). In the first year, we collected 255 items from the most popular job stress measurement tools such as JCQ, ERI, NIOSH and OSI, and 44 items derived from the a qualitative study (depth interview). Forty-three items of KOSS, in the second year, were retained for use in the final version of the KOSS by using Delphi and factor analysis. Items were scored using conventional 1-2-3-4 Likert scores for the response categories. Results: We developed eight subscales by using factor analysis and validation process: physical environment (3 items), job demand (8 items), insufficient job control (5 items), interpersonal conflict (4 items), job insecurity (6 items), organizational system (7 items), lack of reward (6 items), and occupational climate (4 items). Together they explained 50.0% of total variance. Internal consistency alpha scores were ranged from 0.51 to 0.82. Twenty-four items of the short form of the KOSS (KOSS-SF) were also developed to estimate job stress in the work setting. Because the levels of the subscales of occupational stress were gender dependent, gender-specific standard norms for both the 43-item full version and the 24-item short form using a quartile for the subscales of KOSS were presented. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that KOSS might be an appropriate measurement scale to estimate occupational stress of Korean employees. Further and more detailed study needs to be conducted to improve the validity of this scale.

        In order to develop a high brightness ion source using plasma, the ion beam extraction system with an aperture of 100μm in diameter has been designed and constructed. It is observed that over 500nA of He ion beam current can be extracted. With such an optimized condition, ~10³ A/cm²sr beam brightness can be measured by emittance scanner, which is believed to be a promising result for developing next generation FIB.

      • 牧丹皮가 Collagen 誘發 關節炎에 미치는 影響

        류마티스관절염은 활막관절 부위의 만성 염증을 특징으로하며 병이 진행될에 따라 이환된 관절의 연골 및 골과 관절주위 연체조직의 파괴를 초래하는 전신성 자가면역질환이다. 전세계에 걸쳐서 주로 젊은층에서 발병하며 전 인구의 약 2-4%가 이환되는 것으로 알려진 류마티스관절염의 병인에 대하여는 아직도 완전히 규명되지 못하고 있으며,이 질병을 완치 시키거나 질병의 질행을 막을 수 있은 치료법이 정리되지 않은 실정이다. 牧丹皮는 淸熱凉血 活血祛瘀의 효능이 있어 임상적으로 발열,도한,월경불순등 이나 급성충수염 또는 跌打瘀血 등에 응용되어 왔으며 최근에는 진정,최면,진통작용과 항염 및 항알레르기 작용 등이 보고되고 있고 adjuvant 관절염에서 염증반응을 억제하는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 목단피가 콜라겐유발관절염(CIA)에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 bovine type II collagen을 랫트의 꼬리에 주사하고 목단피를 투여하여 CIA의 유발과정중의 면역학적 변화에 미치는 영향에 대하여 관찰하였다. 그 결과 목단피는 생체내와 생체외에서 담식세포에 의한 탐식능을 증가시켰으며 활막세포에 의한 반응산소중간물질 생성능을 감소시켰다. 또한 목단피는 림프구의 증식을 억제하였고,CD4+세포의 비율을 증가시키고 CD8+세포의 비율을 감소시켰다. 아울러 목단피는 요증 미tric oxide(NO)의 분비를 억제시켰고, 활막세포에서의 NO생성을 약간 증가시키는 효과를 보였으나 고농도의 목단피를 투여할 경우 다시 감소하는 결과를 보였다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때 collagen에 의한 관절염의 진행시 목단피의 투여는 면역반응을 조절하여 ROI와 NO의 생성을 억제하고 탐식능을 증가시켜 외부 항원에 대한 탐식을 효과적으로 하여 관절염의 진행을 완화시킨 것으로 생각되며,따라서 목단피는 류마티스관절염의 치료에 임상적으로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. Rheumatoid arthritis(RA) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by a chronic inflammatory, proliferative polyarthritis with joint destruction. The disease occurs throughout the world. Most cases are common in young adult age, and 2-4% of the population are affected with female predominance. However the curative therapy of RA is not yet available, so the development of successful management is required. Moutan Cortex is an herb drug applied for such disease as fever, sweating, menstrual irregularity, acute appendicitis and trauma. Recently it is reported that Moutan Cortex has the antiinflammatory, antimicrobial and antihypertensive actions. It also has analgesic, sedative, and anticonvulsant effects. And it is reported to inhibil swelling of rat's paw and reduce arthritic joint swelling. So as to investigate the effects of Moutan Cortex on collagen-induced arthritis, its water extract was administered in the rat immunized by collagen and the immune responses were measured. The phagocytosis was increased in vivo and in vitro after administration of Moutan Cortex, which was strikingly increased after secondary immunization in vivo. Moutan Cortex decreased lhe reactive oxygen intermediate(ROI) formation and nitric oxide(NO) secretion in urine. While formation of reactive nitrogen intermediate was slightly increased after administration, it showed tendency of decrement in high dose. Moutan Cortex also inhibit lymphocytes proliferation. The ratio of CD4+ T cell was decreased and CD8+ T cell was increased. These results suggest that Moutan Cortex might inhibit arthritic changes by regulating immune response, inhibiting ROI and NO formation and increasing phagocytosis. So Moutan Cortex could be applied for the treatment of RA.

      • IR 레이저를 이용한 COG 접합 공정 개발을 위한 실험적 연구

        A novel method for bonding COG chips on the substrate with IR laser irradiation is presented. The laser process for COG chip packaging has many advantages such as minimized heat affected zone, various bonding materials, selective bonding, and 3D packaging, In order to develop COG. chip bonding, an experimental study for a COG substrate with laser irradiation was performed. Various results could be obtained with respect to ablated or melted shapes of the metal lands, Successful melting of a land on COG substrate was realized on a range of 16.8 W/cm². Within this power density range, a constant result of bonding was shown. We can expect that this result can be applied for a COG bump-to-bump direct bonding process.

      • 외상성 고막천공의 임상적 고찰

        The authors observed the clinical findings of 99 cases of traumatic drum perforations, who visited the department of otolaryngology of Chosun University Hospital and KwangYang Hospital from January 1988 to August 1991 The results obtained were as follows; 1) As an etiologic factor, the indirect trauma occupies the most case (79.8%), out of which the most cases is by assault. 2) Age distribution indicates 30 decade(32.3%) and 20 decade(26.3%) in the declining order and sex distribution indicates male to female is 1;1.3. 3) On occupation, house wife is the most frequently involved (35.4%) and officials & students are in the next order. 4) Most common complaint is Hearing impairment and the next complaints are tinnitus, otalgia and hemorrhage in order. 5) The most frequent site of perforation is the central portion of anteroinferior and posteroinfehor quadrant, Gradel in size and triangular shape are common. 6) Seasonal variation indicates that the most frequent occurence of perforation is on summer. 7) Average 25-35㏈ of hearing loss is most common, and the degree of hearing loss is well correlated with the size of perforation. 8) Two way of therapeutic measure are compared. a. stimulating with trichloroacetic acid ; spontaneously healing in 22 cases (22.2%) b. closing procedure with paper patch ; healing in 68 cases (68.7%) 9)The overall healing time is within 2 months in the most of case (about 80%).

      • Homocysteine-thiolactone 이 유발시키는 소 혈관내피세포의 손상효과

        The homocysteine-thiolactone, a reactive metabolic compound of homocysteine has been implicated in human cardiovascular diseases. The increasing of total plasma homocysteine concentration lead to homocystinuria, which may cause to elevate the concentration of homocysteine-thiolactone in the blood serum. It might be one of the risk factor which is responsible for the development of several vascular diseases. The present study is to demonstrate the harmful effect of homocysteine-thiolactone induced on calf pulmonary artery endothelial (CPAE) cells. CPAE were cultured in RPMI1640 medium supplemented with 10% FBS. CPAE were grown in humidified atmosphere of 5% C₂ in air at 3TC. Cells cultured with homocysteine-thiolactone at concentrations ranging from 0.1mM, lmM, 5mM and l0mM (dissolved in dH₂O). After incubation, cells were stained with MTT. Cell viability was evaluated under the UV-visible absorbance at 540nm. Cells viability was significantly decreased by increasing the concentration of homocysteine-thiolactone, Our data provide the evidence to understand the effect of homocysteine-thiolactone on the cardiovascular system.

      • Metoclopramide가 휜쥐의 血壓에 미치는 影響

        Influences of metocopramide (MCP), which is a seletive dopaminergic antagonist, on blood pressure of the rat and its mechanism of action were investigated in the present study. MCP administered into a femoral vein of the rat caused markedly a dose-related fall in blood pressure followed by secondary transient pressor response. The depressor action evoked by MCP was not blocked by pretreatment of atropine or chlorisondamine, while the pressor action was inhibited significantly. Prazosin treatment reduced markedly both of depressor and pressor induced by MCP. MCP-evoked pressor action was not affected by clonidine, but the depressor response was attenuated significantly. Debrisoquin treatment made the inhibited response to MCP-induced pressor response, while did not affect the depressor action. Both of pressor and depressor responses evoked by MCP were not influenced by cyproheptadine. The hypertensive activity induced by nor epinephrine was weakened markedly by the infusion of MCP (1.50 mg/kg/30min.), but the pressor action evoked by dopamine not affected. These experimental data suggest that MCP produces biphasic responses (depressor and pressor) in blood pressure of the rat, and that the hypotensive activity is due to adrenergic alpha-receptors blockade, and that pressor activity is exerted through stimulation of cholinergic nicotinic receptors in autonmic ganglia.
