        The study the use of breeding habits by different amphibian specis in the Woraksan National Park, nine amphibian breeding populations were monitored from March 25 to July 15, 2005. The breeding habits were categorized into the mountain stream, pond , or rice paddy type. On each survey, we counted the number of adults of amphibian species appeared at the breeding sites and alsp recorded the number of egg sacs or clumped egg clutches deosited by Hynobius leechii, Rana huanrenensis, or R. dybowskii. Total 199 adult amohibians of 9 species in 5 families were confired during the study period. Those were H. leechii, onychodactylus fischeri, Karsenia koreana in urodela and R. huanrenensis, R. dybowskii, R. nigromaculata, R. rugosa, Bombina orientalis, and Hyla japonica in anura. The K. koreana was the first report in the Woraksan National Park. In the Park, the most diminant species was R. dybowskii. In the mountain streans, H. leechii and R. huanrenensis were dominant. The peak breeding season based on the appearance of different amphibians in the areas varied and folled in order as H. leechii in March, R. huanrenensis, R. dybowskii in April, R. nigromaculata, B. orientalis, H. japonica in late May, and R. rugosa in early July. our results indicate that the breeding season of different amphibian species is widely spread from early spring to early summer and the preference for a breeding habitat is varilable based on the species.

      • 머리염색이 인체에 미치는 영향

        일상생활에서 모발염색은 흔히 접할 수 있는 미용의 한 종류로 특히 젊은층을 중심으로 폭발적으로 유행하고 있다. 염색을 위항 사용하는 약제는 표백제와 발색제 등 각종 화학약품이 사용되고 있으나 이로 인한 건강장해에 대한 연구는 그리 많지 않다. 저자들은 염색이 인체의 모발건강에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 염색과 관련된 주관적 증상과 모발의 변화에 대한 실험적 연구를 시행하였다. 동국대학교 경주 캠퍼스 재학생 80명을 대상으로 설문조사를 시행하여 염색 유 ·무 및 염색 후에 경험한 증상에 대해 설문 조사하였고, 의과대학 재학생 46명을 대상으로 피부 반응 테스트를 실시하였다. 또한 염색 전후의 모발 탄성도를 측정하였고 모발의 상태를 파악하기 위해 전자 현미경검사를 실시하였다. 설문조사 결과 염색 전에 비하여 염색 후 안구혼탁, 안구건조, 시력저하, 발진 및 접촉성 피부염, 모발손상, 모근손상 등의 증상을 더 많이 경험한다고 호소하였다(p<0.05). 모발손상과 모근손상은 헤어드라이어 사용 빈도에 따라 증가하는 것으로 조사되었다(p<0.05). 피부반응검사에서 가려움증이 가장 많은 증상이었으며 이는 여성보다는 남성에서 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 염색 전후의 모발장력은 염색 전 134.5±10.37g, 염색 128.0±30.69g, 염색 이틀 후 112.5±19.69g으로 나타났다. 염색 전후의 모발의 전자현미경 케라틴 층이 현저히 감소하고 모발이 가늘어지는 차이를 보였다. 염색은 모발손상, 모발 케라틴 손상 및 모근 손상, 발진 및 접촉성 피부반응, 안구혼탁, 안구건조, 시력 저하를 유발한다. 따라서 염색약으로 인한 손상에 대한 주의와 예방이 필요하다고 생각한다. 예방대책으로 염색 전 피부테스트를 통한 적합성 여부를 판단하는 것이 필요하며 가급적 염색을 피하는 것이 좋을 것이다. 염색약에 발암물질이 포함되어있다는 보고도 있어 염색 제조사의 철저한 실험과 염색 물질의 선별이 염색으로 인한 부작용을 최소화하는데 중요한 역할을 할 것이다. Hair coloring has became one of the most popular cosmetic activities to younger generations during last decade. However, there are few studies on the health effect of widespread use of chemical dyes. This study was conducted to study the effects of hair coloring dye on hair and other systems. We conducted a questionnaire survey of 80 persons in Kyongju campus, Dongguk University. We have done open patch skin test on 46 medical students. We also conducted scanning electron microscopy to examine the hair strength and structure before and after hair coloring process. Injury of hair and hair bulb, contact dermatitis, turbid eyes, xerophthalmia, and poor visual acuity were the main symptoms complained after hair coloring (p<0.05). Injury of hair and hair bulb were increased by frequency of hair-dryer use(p<0.05). In open patch test, pruritus was complanined by more than half of the subjects. Mean strength of hairs before and after hair coloring was as follows; 134.5 (SD 10.37)g before hair coloring, 128.0 (SD 30.69)g immediately after hair coloring, and 112.5 (SD 19.69)g after two days. The scanning electron microscopic findings of hair surface before and after hair coloring showed decreased keratin layer and thinning of the hair. Hair coloring induces injury to hair, its keratin layer, and hair bulb as well as contact dermatitis, turbid eyes, xerophthalmia, and poor visual acuity. Therefore, we think that precaution is needed in use of hair coloring dye. To prevent complications induced by hair coloring dye, it is necessary, especially to those with allergy or skin disorders, to perform skin test before action and avoid hair coloring whenever possible. Longterm health effects of hairdye should be studied and manufacturing companies should try to minimize complications induced by hair coloring dye.

        국립공원 내 파충류 자원의 효율적인 관리를 위한 PIT(passive integrated transponder) tag과 무선추적방법(radio telemetry)의 적용

        본 연구는 PIT tag (passive integrated transponder)과 무선추적법(radio telemetry)을 오대산국립공원과 월악산국립공원에 서식하고 있는 파충류에 적용한 후, 이를 평가하여 효과적으로 국립공원 내 파충류 자원관리 방안을 모색하기 위하여 수행되었다. PIT tag은 현재까지 알려진 파충류 개체표시법 중에서 가장 효과적인 방법으로 2006년 3월부터 2008년 10월까지 오대산국립공원과 월악산국립공원의 조사지역에 출현한 모든 137마리의 뱀류를 대상으로 적용하였다. 무선추적 연구는 월악산국립공원에서 서식하고 있는 황구렁이(Elaphe schrenckii anomala) 2마리를 대상으로 2007년 9월부터 2008년 11월까지 실시하였다. 연구결과, 두 곳의 국립공원 지역에서 연구기간 동안 17마리가 재 포획되어 평균 12.40%의 재포획률을 보였으며, 재 포획된 개체들의 자료를 통하여 누룩뱀(Elaphe dione)과 쇠살모사(Gloydius ussuriensis) 성체의 SVL 증가를 성공적으로 확인하였다. 무선추적을 통하여 확인된 황구렁이 수컷의 행동권 면적은 MCP=389,600 m2, Kernel 95%=471,800 m2, 암컷은 MCP=162,500 m2, Kernel 95%=208,700 m2인 것으로 확인되었다. 국립공원 내에서 보호와 관리가 필요한 종 혹은 멸종위기대상 종인 파충류를 대상으로 PIT tag과 무선추적을 적용한다면 공원 내 파충류의 효율적인 관리 및 보존방안을 마련하는 데 중요한 기초자료를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. To suggest effective ways of the management of reptiles in Korea national parks, we applied PIT (passive integrated transponder) tag and radio telemetry research methods in the monitoring of reptiles in Odaesan and Woraksan national parks. We implanted PIT tags into 137 snakes (six species) captured in both the national parks between March 2006 and October 2008 and also radio-tracked two Korean rat snakes (Elaphe schrenckii anomala) from September 2007 to November 2008 in the Woraksan national park. Of total 137 snakes which we had inserted the PIT tag, 17 snakes (12.40%) were recaptured. Based on the PIT tag data of the recapture, we successfully obtained the annual growth rate of Korean cat snakes (Elaphe dione) and Red-tongue pit-viper (Gloydius ussuriensis). Home range of the Korean rat snakes based on the data of radio-tracking was estimated as 389,600 m2 (MCP: Minimum convex polygon) and 471,800 m2 (Kernel 95%) for males and 162,500m2 and 208,700m2 for females. These results suggest that if we apply PIT tag and radio telemetry research methods to manage reptiles in Korea national parks, it could greatly increase our understanding about their basic ecology and as the result, it could allow us to develop better management and conservation ways of reptiles in Korea national parks.

      • Protein kinase A-induced phosphorylation at the Thr154 affects stability of DJ-1

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Introduction</B></P> <P>Most cases of Parkinson's disease (PD) are sporadic, but genetic variations have been discovered in PD patients. PARK7/DJ-1 is a known cause of early-onset autosomal-recessive PD and is implicated in neuroprotection against oxidative stress. Although several post-translational modifications of DJ-1 have been proposed, phospho-modification of DJ-1 and its functional consequences have been less studied.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>Putative phosphorylation sites of DJ-1 were determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS analysis). Subsequently, phosphorylation site of DJ-1 was confirmed by <I>in vitro</I> kinase assay and cell-based pull-down assay. Impaired dimer formation of phospho-null mutant was measured using DSS crosslinking assay and immunoprecipitation assay. To evaluate physiological consequences of this event, protein stability of DJ-1 WT and DJ-1 phospho-null mutant were compared using cycloheximide chase assay and ubiquitination assay.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Here, we showed that DJ-1 directly bound to the catalytic subunit of protein kinase A (PKAcα). We found that PKAcα is responsible for phosphorylation of DJ-1 at the T154 residue. Interestingly, dimerization of DJ-1 was not detected in a DJ-1 T154A mutant. Furthermore, stability of the DJ-1 T154A mutant was dramatically reduced compared with that of wild-type DJ-1. We found that DJ-1 T154A was prone to degradation by the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS).</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>We identified a novel phosphorylation site of DJ-1. Furthermore, we determined protein kinase A that is responsible for this posttranslational modification. Finally, we demonstrated physiological consequences of this event focusing on dimerization and protein stability of DJ-1.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> PKAcα phosphorylates PARK7/DJ1 at the Thr154 residue. </LI> <LI> Disruption of Thr154 phosphorylation is linked to a lower stability. </LI> </UL> </P>

        국립공원 관리를 위한 해양생태계 장기 모니터링 프로그램의 발전 방향

        생태계 변화의 모니터링은 효율적 생태계 관리를 위한 기초 정보 수집을 위해 중요한 과정이다. 많은 생태 현상과 그 과정은 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 진행되므로 국립공원의 지속적인 보전 및 효율적 관리를 위해 생태계 모니터링은 장기적으로 이루어질 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 국내외 장기 모니터링 프로그램 사례 분석을 통해 성공적인 장기 모니터링을 위한 방법으로써, 최적화된 모니터링 설계, 표준화된 운용방안 마련, 인적 자원 및 DATA 관리 체계 수립, 안정적인 재정 마련 및 후속지원 등을 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로, 현재 10년 넘게 수행되고 있는 ‘HS호 유류유출 사고 해역 장기 모니터링 프로그램’의 발전 방향으로 적응형 모니터링 방식이 적용된 표준화된 프로토콜의 정립, QA/QC와 지속적인 자료 관리, 조사 항목의 연계성 강화 등의 구체적 방안을 제안한다. Monitoring ecosystem changes is an important process for collecting basic information for ecosystem management. Since many ecological phenomena and their processes take place over a long period of time, it is necessary to conduct long-term monitoring of ecosystems for the continuous conservation and efficient management of national parks. This study suggested an optimized monitoring design, standardized operation plan, human resource and data management system, stable financial preparation and follow-up support as methods for successful long-term monitoring through case analysis of domestic and foreign long-term monitoring programs. Based on this, it proposes specific measures such as establishing a standardized protocol with adaptive monitoring methods, continuous data management with QA/QC, and strengthening the linkage of investigation items in the development direction of the “HS oil spill accident long-term monitoring program” that has been conducted for more than a decade.

        LED를 이용한 복합레진의 광조사시, 중합수축의 속도와 양, 미세경도에 관한 연구

        This study evaluated the effectiveness of the light emitting diode(LED) units for composite curing. To compare its effectiveness with conventional quartz tungsten halogen (QTH) light curing unit, the microhardness of 2mm composite, Z250, which had been light cured by the LEDs (Ultralume LED2, FreeLight, Developing product D1) or QTH (XL 3000) were compared on the upper and lower surface. One way ANOVA with Tukey and Paired t-test was used at 95% levels of confidence. In addition, the amount of linear polymerization shrinkage was compared between composites which were light cured by QTH or LEDs using a custom-made linimeter in 10s and 60s of light curing, and the amount of linear polymerization shrinkage was compared by one way ANOVA with Tukey. The amount of polymerization shrinkage at 10s was XL3000 > Ultralume 2, 40, 60 > FreeLight, D1 (P<0.05) The amount of polymerization shrinkage at 60s was XL3000 > Ultralume 2, 60 > Ultralume 2, 40 > FreeLight, D1 (P<0.05) The microhardness on the upper and lower surface was as follows; <본문 참조> It was concluded that the LEDs produced lower polymerization shrinkage in 10s and 60s compared with QTH unit. In addition, the microhardness of samples which had been cured with LEDs was lower on the lower surfaces than the upper surfaces whereas there was no difference in QTH cured samples.

      • 국소 광적응 기능을 가지는 윤곽검출용 32×32 방사형 CMOS 시각칩의 설계 및 제조

        국소 광적응 기능을 가지는 윤곽검출용 시각칩을 픽셀수 32x32의 방사형 구조로 CMOS 공정기술을 이용하여 설계 및 제조하였다. 생체의 망막은 넓은 범위의 입력 광강도에 대해서 물체의 윤곽을 검출할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 시세포, 수평세포, 쌍극세포로 이루어진 망막의 윤곽검출 기능을 모델링하여 윤곽검출용 인공시각칩을 설계하였다. 국소 광적응을 위해, 입력 광강도에 따라 수용야의 크기를 국소적으로 바뀌게 하였다. 아울러 단위셀을 방사형으로 배치함으로써 영상데이터의 양을 감소시킴과 동시에 칩의 중심부분으로 갈수록 해상도가 높아지도록 설계하였다. 설계된 칩은 0.6 ㎛ double-poly triple-metal 표준 CMOS 공정기술을 이용하여 제조되었으며. HSPICE 시뮬레이션으로 성능을 최적화 시켰다. A 32x32 pixels foveated (linear-polar) stucture retina chip with the function of local-light adaptation for edge detection has been designed and fabricated using CMOS technology. Human retina can detect a wide range of light intensity. In this study, we use the biologically-inspired visual signal processing mechanism that consists of photoreceptors, horizontal cells, and bipolar cells in order to implement the function of edge detection in the retina chip. For a local-light adaptive function, the size of receptive field is changed locally according to the input light intensity. The spatial distribution of sensing pixels in the foveated retina chip has the advantages of selective reduction of image data and good resolution in central part to carry out the elaborate image processing with still enough resolution in the outer parts. The designed chip has been fabricated using standard 0.6 ㎛ double-poly triple-metal CMOS technology and optimized using HSPICE simulator.

        하시모토 갑상선염을 동반한 갑상선 이형성증 1예

        Thyroid hemiagenesis is a rare congenital anomaly, in which one thyroid lobe fails to develop. It is reported that thyroid hemiagenesis associated with thyroid diseases such as Graves' disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, colloidal goiter and thyroid follicular and papillary cancer. However, Thyroid hemiagenesis associated Hashimoto's thyroiditis haven't reported in Korea. A 31-year-old female patient was clinically hypothyroid with a left-sided goiter. Hemiagenesis of right thyroid lobe indicated on 99mTc pertechnete scan and later confirmed on ultrasonography. The authors report this case with literature review.

        In this paper, a Exhaust Flow Controller (EFC) technology for uniform application of film coater and developer device is introduced that spread and remove photo resister at semiconductor manufacturing process. Because developed EFC device uses differential pressure sensing method as a differential flow meter and embodied smart A/D conversion by using a one chip microprocessor and devised by feedback Servo control, it has shown excellent performance and stability evaluation, as maximum 2000L/min flow, capability of installation to actual semiconductor equipment.

        공사비지수 적용을 통한 군 시설공사의 예산산정 모델 : 표준도를 적용하는 건축물을 대상으로

        As a large portion of defence budget are alloted for military facility construction, reasonable budget estimation in the planning stage has been officers' main concerns. However the proper estimation of construction cost is difficult to be carried out due to the absence of systematic criteria. To improve the budget estimation fur military facility construction, this study proposes a cost index model which can convert historical cost to current cost. Thus the developed cost index would enhance effectiveness of budget estimation process and support reasonable decision making. The MFCI(Military Facility Cost Index) model consists of 3 modules that are DCI(Direct Cost Index), LCTI(Location Index) and SAF(Scale Adjustment Factor). This model is developed through analyzing historical cost data with statistical methodology. The study is executed in following processes. first, factors which affect construction cost for the most are selected by analyzing historical cost data. Second, the selected factors are categorized into material costs, labor costs and equipment costs, and weights of those factors are calculated by dividing the cost of each factor by total item costs. Last, cost index is developed by using weighted average method.
