Component mode synthesis which is one of substructure synthesis methods is studied for the determination of vibration characteristics of plate problem. Comparisons are made in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency. As a result, computation time of component mode synthesis is much shorter than that of whole structure analysis. In lower modes natural frequencies obtained from component mode synthesis are almost equal to those obtained from whole structure analysis, but in higher the differences of results obtained from two methods are increased.

Backgrounds: A retrospective study was performed to define objective radiologic parameters in diagnosing epiglottitis on soft-tissue lateral neck radiographic study. Methods: Parameters of soft-tissue structures(epiglottis width, third vertebral body width, ratio of epiglottic width to third vertebral body width) in 30 adult patients compared with those of age and sexmatched controls with foreign body in throat whose radiographic reading was normal. Results: Epiglottis width of more than 11mm, ratio of epiglottis width(EW) to the third vertebral body width(C3W) of more than 0.5 were, respectively, found to be 100% sensitive and specific in differentiating between patients with and without epiglottitis. Conclusion: These preliminary results suggest that EW/C3W ratio of more than 0.5, EW of more than 11mm, respectively, may be useful in the diagnosis of epiglottitis in adult patients.

성장발육에 따른 흰쥐의 악관절 신경분포의 변화

The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution of CGRP immunoreactive nerve fibers in rat squamosomandibular joint with postnatal development. Squamosomandibular joint with adjacent tissue of 8 groups of rats(1,5,10,15,20,25,35-postnatal day and adult groups) were removed en bloc and processed for immunohistochemistry and were subjected to light microscopic examination. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The anterior portion of the articular disk was most densely innervated, followed by the posterior, lateral, and medial portions in each group. 2. Increase of CGRP immunoreactive nerve fibers was evident in 10,15,20 postnatal day groups. 3. Almost no CGRP immunoreactive nerve fibers were observed in articular surface of disk proper, mandibular fossa and condyle head of each group. These result suggest that CGRP immunoreactive nerve fibers increased in synovial membrane and peripheral portion of articular disk during 10-20 postnatal day may play a important role in squamosomandibular joint function after weaning period.

심혈관 위험요인과 청력역치의 상관성

To investigate the effects of cardiovascular risk factors on hearing loss, hearing threshold and cardiovascular risk factors such as blood pressure, hematologic values, and serum lipid levels of 3,827 persons who visited the Health Center of a University Hospital in Kumi for health examination from January 1, 1995 to July 31, 1997 were analysed. The results were summarized as follows; 1. Hearing threshold was shifted highly in both sex groups with age increased. Smoking did not influence increase of hearing loss, but drinking alcohol amount increased the hearing threshold when sex was adjusted. The most highly increased hearing threshold showed among farmers group, but next was blue collars group. Hearing threshold increasing basis with BMI increased. 2. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure and hematocrit value increased the hearing threshold in both sex groups, but hemoglobin value did not related to the hearing threshold. 3. Total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, and atherosclerosis index were significantly increased with the grade of hearing loss increased, when age was adjusted. 4. In the logistic regression analysis, the atherosclerosis index, age, and hematocrit value revealed risk factors which contributed in that orders, though the values were small they showed statistical significaces, but the risks were lowered when hemoglobin values increased, in both sex groups. Consequently, hyperlipidemia was significantly related to the hearing loss when age was adjusted.

The feedback controller for the active control of a cantilever beam vibration is developed using time optimal bang-bang control theory. The effects of I)the constraint of the control force magnitude and II)the actuator positions are investigated numerically. The results show that I)the magnitude of the constraint force and control time are inversely proportional, II)the control effect is increased as the actuator position moves toward the free end of the beam, and III)the controller gives Coulomb damping effect to the system.

비소세포 폐암 환자의 이차 치료로서 Gemcitabine과 Vinorelbine 혼합 요법의 효과

Background : Both gemcitabine and vinorelbine are effective anticancer drugs with mild toxicity on non-small cell lung cancer, and monotherapy of these drugs are effective as a second-line chemotherapy. The aim of this trial was to assess the response and toxicity of a combination of gemcitabine and vinorelbine in patients of previously treated for non-small cell lung cancer. Materials and Methods : 24 patients, initial stage III A/B,IV and previously treated with platinium and taxane based regimens, were enrolled from June 2000 to March 2004. The regimens consisted of vinorelbine 25mg/㎡ followed by an infusion of gemcitabine 1000mg/㎡ on day 1 and day 8 every three weeks. This course was repeated more than twice. Results : Twenty-four patients were analyzed for the response, survival rate, and toxicities. The overall response was 17% with a complete remission rate of 4%. The median time-to progression (TTP) was 3.1 months (95%, CI l-10months), and the survival time was 8.2 months (95%, CI 1-23 months). The grade 3/4 toxicities encountered were neutropenia (12.5%), anemia (0%), thrombocytopenia (0%). Non-hematological 3/4 toxicities were not observed. Conclusion : A combination of gemcitabine and vinorelbine in patients previously treated for non-small cell lung cancer provides a relatively good response rate, and a low toxicity profile. 반복작업에 의해 발생한 척골관 증후군 1례

Objectives : To report cubital tunnel syndrome due to repetitive motions. Methods : A worker complaining muscle weakness and atrophy of the right hand intrinsic muscles admitted to a hospital. We evaluated him with blood tests, neurophysio-logic studies (NCV & EMG), plain X-ray and US at the both elbows. We investigated his occupational history, and videotaped his work motions based on the work cycle at his previous work site. Finally, an ergonomics expert analyzed the motions using rapid upper limb assessment (RULA). Results : NCV & EMG studies reveals slow conduction velocity on both ulnar nerve across the elbow, more severely in the right side. US shows us compatible finding with diffuse neuritis of both ulnar nerves at both elbows. RULA score is 7. Conclusion : We confirmed that the worker's symptoms were related to his previous jobs demanding repetitive motions using the elbow joints. It is necessary that we should prepare appropriate measures to evaluate, prevent, rehabilitate, and help injured workers to return to work.

여자 리듬체조의 변천과정

It is important to investigate various gymnastics and dances that have influenced the origin of rhythmic sportive gymnastics in order to understand its cultural values and the importance of feminine sports. Therefore, the purposes of this study are to inquire into the backgrounds and to clarify the process of changes in rhythmic sportive gymnastics from its origins to the present. Rhythmic sportive gymnastics can be defined as a sport in which one expresses oneself in feminine beauty and rhythmic motion. Formed under the influence of dances and gymnastics such as basic gesture of ballet, free gymnastics, water polo gymnastics, expressive gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, etc., rhythmic sportive gymnastics has developed into a sport entry. The World Tournament has been held every two year since the rhythmic sportive gymnastics firstly appeared as a sport entry at the first World Tournament in Budapest in 1963. It was officially adopted as a sport entry in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Since then, its rules have become more elaborate and have undergone some changes. In the 1980s, the rules of the game were firmly set and its techniques significantly improved as it was rapidly settled as a sport entry. As a result, in 1990s, the focus of the rules was shifted to technical skills from its original feminine beauty and internal expression. For these reasons, feminine beauty, the power of expression, creativity and inner beauty, which are the essence of rhythmic sportive gymnastics, have gradually been disappearing.
