Leukemia is known to be an extremely rare cause of diabetes insipidus. We report a case of diabetes insipidus as a complication of leukemia. An 18 year-old man was admitted because of polyuria polydipsia and fever. Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy revealed the diagnosis of acute erythroleukemia (AML, M6). On the water deprivation test, the diabetes insipidus was confirmed to be of the central type. He was managed with intranasal vasopressin for diabetes insipidus with good response. Induction chemotherapy was administered without response, and the patient died of septicemia and respiratory failure 2 months after initial diagnosis. A short review of the literature related to this subject is also presented.

Jehovah's Witness patients who require an operation represent a challenge to the physician because of the patients' refusal to accept a blood transfusion. We report 5 years experience with a consecutive series of 12 Jehovah's Witness patients in the Obstetric & Gynecological department who underwent operation. In 12 cases, death ensued in one patient who underwent subtotal hysterectomy for ectopic pregnancy. The cause of death was severe anemia & complicated respiratory problems. We discussed the problem of elective & emergency operations on Jehovah's Witness patients. Anesthesiologists must understand legal aspects, as well as and ethical, if they are to conduct their practice as an art as well as science.

Shock absorber has a great influence on the performance of the vehicle(ride comfort, manipulation, noise, vibration, turning, stability). Therefore, in this study we consider theoretically about general damper, variable damping oil damper, the control of vehicle Characteristics for the suspension, and undesirable phenomenon. And we measured the vibration/noise characteristics of shack absorber for the real car experimentation, strain change, and noise characteristics of shock absorber using experimental equipment. The study of domestic company and research institute on the vehicle shock absorber is active, but that of basis is not. So we think that they should be accomplished actively. Therefore, this paper will develop theoretical system on the vibration/noise characteristics of shock absorber by theoretical consideration and experimental result analysis of dynamic characteristics of shock absorber that were accomplished in this study. Then we will use it as the optimistic design data for shock absorber development.

Myasthenia Gravis is a chronic disease of disputed etiology, possibly an auto-immune reaction to the moter end-plate, characterized by exacerbations and remissions, a rare disease entity in Korea. Myasthenia Gravis has offered many anesthetic problems because it affects respiratory muscles occasionally and bronchial secretion from preoperative anticholinesterase therapy. The chief concern is to ensure adequate respiration both during and after operation. During the year 1976-1982, we have experienced the anesthetic management of 8 patients with myasthenia gravis and thymectomy. From our experiences, we conclude that respiratory care and disuse of relaxants is the key to successful management.
플라즈마질화 및 침질탄화처리한 탄소강의 경도와 내마모특성

Commercial carbon steels containing 0.2∼0.55wt.%C were plasma-nitrided or plasma nitrocarburized at 550℃ for 21.6Ks using H₂-N₂or H₂-N₂-CO mixed gas respectively. The characteristics of hardening and wear-resistance of each treatment were studied and compared. And also microstructure of nitrided layer and nitrides formed in compound layer near surface were studied. All plasma-nitrided steels investigated showed remarkable increase of surface hardness with the increase of carbon content. But nitrocarburized steels resulted in higher surface-hardness than plasma-nitrided steels, which means that nitrocarburized has higher surface-hardening effect. Plasma-nitrided steels showed hardness increase in through-thickness direction near surface. And also nitrocarburized steels showed similar hardness distribution in through-thickness direction to that of plasma-nitrided steel. However, nitrocarburized steels had higher cross-sectional maximum-hardness than plasma-nitrided steels as much as 100Hv. Wear test showed that the amount of specific wear was reduced by both plasma-nitriding and nitrocarburized, showing that the amount of specific wear was not related to the hardness. But non-treated specimen showed that the amount of specific wear was related to the hardness.
양안간 격리증(Orbital hypertelorism)교정을 위한 Major Craniofacial Treatment 의 마취 경험 1 예

It is a well known fact that the major craniofacial operation is a complicated procedure. In this procedure, the operative period is extremely long and blood loss is large, extremely difficult to estimate and continuous into the early postoperative period. The air way should be protected intraoperatively and postoperatively due to frequent airway obstruction. We had experienced of an anesthetic management for correction of hypertelorism. Anesthetic management of this case should focus on reduction intracranial pressure and volume. We had performed neurolept anesthesia with controlled hyperventilation. The careful monitoring and frequent measuring of blood gas analysis, hematocrit, hourly urine output, electrolytes, body temperature, CVP, ECG, and acid-base balance status are recommend. We report a case of anesthetic management for a patient.
일부 영세 도금사업장의 국소배기성능과 공기중 총크롬 , 6가 크롬 및 니켈농도와의 관계분석

To evaluate efficiencies of the local exhaust systems installed in chromium and nickel electroplating tanks, specifications of each tank and general performances of the local exhaust systems were measured in 16 electroplating plants from July 3 to November 24, 1992. Airborne concentrations of total chromium, hexa-chromium and nickel were also measured. Most of the local exhaust systems installed in electroplating plants were inadequately designed. Average capture velocities of local exhaust systems in chromium and nickel tanks were 0.45 m/sec and 0.29 m/sec. Average slot velocities in chromium and nickel tanks were 7.30 m/sec and 2.87 m/sec respectively. Both average capture and slot velocities were in noncompliance with the standards recommended by American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Exhausted air volume was insufficient in all local exhaust systems surveyed. Worker exposure levels to total chromium, hexa-chromium and nickel were 43.0 ㎍/㎥, 1.7 ㎍/㎥ and 9.3 ㎍/㎥, which were below the Korean Standard and U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA) Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). However, Worker exposure level to hexa-chromium exceeded the NIOSH Recommended Exposure Limit(REL) of 1 ㎍/㎥. As the result of Scheffee's multiple comparions, worker exposure levels to all metals were significantly different between two groups by the management state of existing local exhaust systems (p$lt;0.05). However, Difference between a group with local exhaust systems which were poorly managed and another group without local exhaust system was satatistically non-significant.

The ordered phase was tried to disappear in 6.5% Si steel to reduce the power loss and enhance the economic interests. They were prepared by the conventional casting or spray forming method, and they were investigated using the transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The variation in the methods of preparing the specimen did not result in any difference in suppressing the ordered B2 phase in the Fe-Si binary system. It was almost impossible to suppress this ordered phase keeping the silicon level as high as 6.5% even after the heat treatment at 1000℃ for 24 hr or after hot rolling. It was necessary to change the silicon level and control the cooling rate to prevent the ordering reaction, especially, in cooling after heat treatments. The silicon level of 5.8% was obtained as a maximum desirable value.

TiO₂ films deposited on glass were prepared by plasma sputtering method. The dependence of structural properties on the deposition conditions and the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue were investigated. When the oxygen partial pressure was higher than 5%, as-deposited TiO₂ films exhibited an almost amorphous structure under DC plasma condition. A transition at which metallic mode deposition(Ti) changed to dielectric mode deposition(TiO₂), was observed at the 5∼10% oxygen partial pressure under RF plasma condition. The amorphous structure changed to anatase structure by heat treatment at 400℃ for 4 hours. Crystallized anatase structure had a preferred orientation along 〔101〕 direction. For 150 min of photocatalytic degradation, the concentration of methylene blue was reduced by half.
Ti(4) 및 Fe(3) 이온을 함유한 황산 수용액중에서 D2EHPA 에 의한 용매추출에 관한 연구

This study was carried out to find fundamental conditions for effective solvent extraction of Ti and Fe components from leaching solution of reaction product of (NH₄)₂SO₄ and titaniferous magnetite ore. In experiment of solvent extraction of Ti and Fe components, new aqueous phase which contains only Ti(IV), Fe(III) was used instead of leaching solution of sulfation product. The extraction of Ti(IV) and Fe(III) components from aqueous phase with D₂EHPA (Di-2-ethyl hexyl phosphoric acid)-kerosine system was carried out as function of concentration of extractant in the organic phase, pH of agueous phase and shaking time. The maximum value of separation factor(β) was 102.6 at 0.05 M D₂EHPA, aqueous phase pH 1.0, and 30 min was sufficient for the condition of shaking time. In stripping of Ti and Fe components from organic phase; the higher temperature and more concentration of H₂SO₄ increased the stripping percent of Ti and Fe components and the stripping percent of Fe was always higher than that of Ti. In separation process of Ti and Fe components, when 2 step stripping process was used, 93.7%, 99.5% Ti and Fe components was obtained respectively. While, 3 stage continuous countercurrent process was used, 96.3%, 84.7% of Ti and Fe components was obtained respectively.
