      • Quantitative Assay for the Binding of Jun-Fos Dimer and Activator Protein-1 Site

        The Jun and Fos families of eukaryotic transcription factors form heterodimers capable of binding to their cognate DNA enhancer elements. We are interested in searching for inhibitors or antagonists of the binding of the Jun-Fos heterodimer to the activator protein-1 (AP-1) site. The basic-region leucine zipper (bZIP) domain of c-Fos was expressed as a fusion protein with glutathione S-transferase, and allowed to form a heterodimer with the bZIP domain of c-Jun. The heterodimer was bound to glutathione-agarose, to which were added radiolabeled AP-1 nucleotides. After thorough washing, the gel-bound radioactivity was counted. The assay is faster than the coventional electrophoretic mobility shift assay because the gel electrophoresis step and the autoradiography step are eliminated. Moreover, the assay is very sensitive, allowing the detection of picomolar quantities of nucleotides, and is not affected by up to 50% dimethylsulfoxide, a solvent for hydrophobic inhibitors. Curcumin and dihydroguaiaretic acid, recently known inhibitors of Jun-Fos-DNA complex formation, were applied to this Jun-GST-fused Fos system and revealed to decrease the dimer-DNA binding.

        실용음악 전공 학생들의 발성치료 전후 성대 및 음성 특성 비교

        Background and Objectives : Many students major in applied music singing have various difficulties in phonation when they sing or perform. But the studies about this cause are lack. The purpose of this study is whether singing voice therapy based on vocal music is effective or not to applied music singing students that have difficulties in phonation. Materials and Methods : Singing voice therapy program had been done to 8 students major in applied music singing during 7 weeks. We did laryngeal stroboscope, perceptual, acoustic and aerodynamic examination before and after singing voice therapy to this students. And we studied post examination results have differences or improvements compared to pre examination results. Results : Four male students don't have effective improvement after singing voice therapy but they shows slight improvement in aerodynamic examination values compared to pre examination values. Four female students shows improvement in aerodynamic examination values and pitch range increasing. Above all, one student's vocal nodules disappeared after singing voice therapy. Conclusion : Singing voice therapy based on music singing is very effective to the students major in applied music singing. Above all, their curriculum in applied music singing should include phonation training based on music singing before training perform and technic practices.

        Effect of Mn and C on Age Hardening of Fe–Mn–Al–C Lightweight Steels

        The effects of Mn and C content on the age hardening of Fe–Mn–Al–C lightweight steels, which have austenitic or duplex(austenite and ferrite) microstructures, were investigated. An increase in Mn content induced a delay of the age hardeningthat is caused by the formation of intra-granular κ-carbides. In order to interpret the effect of Mn content, first-principlescalculations were conducted using the supercells of Fe24Al8C8,Fe24Al8C7,Fe24(Al7Mn)C8, and Fe24(Al7Mn)C7. The calculationsshowed that an increase in Mn content could be the source of the delay of the intra-granular κ-carbide formation bysuppressing C atom’ occupation of the vacancy at the body-centered site of L12. An increase in C content accelerated theformation of intra-granular κ-carbides, which induced the intense age hardening, and coarse inter-granular κ-carbides, whichresulted in significant decrease in impact absorbed energy due to inter-granular fracture.

        기저질환이 없는 사람에서 발생한 Campylobacter fetus에 의한 재발성 심내막염 1예

        C. fetus 심내막염은 드물게 발생하는 질환으로 주로 면역능이 저하된 환자에서 발병하고 대동맥판을 침범하는 경우가 많으며 적절한 치료가 되지 않을 경우 치사율이 높다. 저자들은 기저질환이 없던 69세 남자에서 C. fetus 심내막염을 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. 환자는 발열로 내원하여 시행한 혈액배양 검사상 C. fetus가 동정되었고 경식도 초음파 검사상 삼첨판에 증식증이 발견되어 심내막염 진단하에 ceftriaxone에 이어 meropenem으로 총 4주간 항생제를 투여받고 호전되었다가 한달 후 다시 재발하였고 판막부전 소견 진행하여 삼첨판 치환술을 시행받고 전신상태 호전되어 퇴원하였다. Campylobacter fetus is a rare cause of endocarditis. To date, only about 30 cases of C. fetus endocarditis have been reported mainly in the elderly with chronic underlying illnesses. Most cases showed tendency to involve aortic valve. This report describes a case of native tricuspid valve infective endocarditis in a 69-year-old man without any underlying disease. Despite adequate antibiotic therapy for 4-weeks, endocarditis recurred and leading to surgical valve replacement.

        Influence of Al2O3 Content and Cooling Rate on Crystallization in Fe2O3–CaO–SiO2–Al2O3 Systems

        The behavior of silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum (SFCA) phases and the influence of sintered ore quality were investigatedusing a confocal laser scanning microscope to understand how the Al2O3content of iron ore affects the sintered orestructure and the crystallization behavior of SFCA in a Fe2O3–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 pseudo-quaternary system. The experimentalresults were used to inform simulations of the heterogeneous dynamic behavior in response to the rapid temperature changesand various chemical compositions typically encountered in actual sintering processes. Increasing the Al2O3content in theFe2O3–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 pseudo-quaternary system led to the hematite content decreasing, which affects the reducibilityof the sintered ore. The correlation between the creation of SFCA and the cooling effect associated with varying the Al2O3is discussed in detail.

        Ad-Hoc 네트워크에서 링크 장애를 고려한 효율적인 키 협정 방법

        Ad-Hoc네트워크에서는 기존의 인프라를 사용하지 않기 때문에 공개 키 기반 구조 또는 제삼자 키 관리 서비스를 지원하지 않는다. 따라서 여러 유형의 보안문제가 발생할 수 있다. 그래서 보안 문제를 해결하기 위한 방법인 키 협정(key agreement)에 대하여 많은 프로토콜들이 제안되어 왔다. 가장 대표적인 것이 디피 헬만(Diffie-Hellman)이 제안한 프로토콜이다. 그러나 이 방법은 두명의 사용자간에서만 사용될 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 디피 헬만 방법을 확장하여 다자간에도 사용될 수 있는, 그룹 키 협정에 대하여 알아보고, 그룹 키 협정 진행 중에 링크 장애가 발생했을 때 그룹 키 협정을 성공적으로 수행하기 위한 효율적인 방법을 제안하였다. Ad-Hoc network is wireless network architecture without infrastructure. We encounter new types of security problems in Ad-Hoc networks because such networks have little or no support from infrastructure. Thus, wireless communications need security mechanisms in order to guarantee the integrity and the privacy of the communication, as well as the authentication of the entities involved. Many practical systems have been proposed. The most familiar system is the Diffie-Hellman key distribution system. This algorithm allows the establishment of a cryptographic secret key between two entities. If more than two users want to compute a common key, then a group key agreement system is used. This paper discusses several group key agreement systems and presents two efficient fault tolerant methods to perform successful group key agreement.

        중증 외상환자에서 염기 결핍수치의 유용성

        Background: This study's objective was to determine the prognostic value of the base deficit measured in the emergency department(ED) and to determine whether base deficit can provide information not provided by advanced injury scoring system. Methods: This study was a retrospective analysis of data collected for two years. Thirty-two severe trauma patients who were admitted to the Emergency Department of Korea University Hospital were included in this study. The patients were divided into two groups: the normal base deficit group(-3 mmol/L to 3 mmol/L) and the elevated base deficit group(>3 mmol/L). The base-deficit value, age, sex, head injury, organ failure rate, and survival were considered, and the also Revised Trauma Score(RTS), Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation(APACHE II), and Injury Severity Score(ISS) were measured. Result: The elevated base-deficit group showed a lower survival rate and a higher organ failure rate compared to the normal base deficit group. Logistic Regression showed a strong association between base deficit and mortality rate. Among the previous injury scoring Systems(RTS, APACHE II, ISS), base deficit had the strongest correlation with RTS. By using base deficit value and the RTS together, we obtained a higher positive predictive value than that obtained by using base deficit or RTS alone. Conclusion: The admission value of the base deficit in the ED is a useful tool in predicting the outcome in severe trauma patients, and it can be an adjunct to previous injury scoring systems. As an advanced injury scoring System is developed in the future, the base deficit may have some significant role.

        茶山과 日本 古學派 太宰春臺의 經權論

        經權論은 예측할 수 없는 인간의 삶 속에서도 지켜야 할 근본적 원칙과 도덕에 관한 치열한 논쟁이다. 또는 목적과 수단의 딜레마적 긴장관계에 대한 윤리학적 접근으로도 볼 수 있다. 본고는 18세기 朝ㆍ日의 經世家였던 丁茶山과 太宰春臺의 經權論을 규명하고자 한 것이다. 茶山은 漢儒의 反經合道가 초래하는 결과주의의 폐단을 경고하면서 기본적으로 程頤의 權只是經을 지지하여 權道의 표준이 중용의 時中에 있다 보았다. 그리하여 堯舜의 덕에 의한 禪讓ㆍ箕子의 쓰러져가는 商에 대한 충의ㆍ천명을 받든 湯武의 放伐은 모두가 한결같이 聖人이 각자가 처한 상황에 的中한 道의 지극한 경지, 즉 중용의 道를 실천한 것으로 보았다. 이때 이들 聖人의 우열을 논하지 않는 것은 주자가 말한 經權 이전의, 經權을 관통하고 함섭하는 ‘道’의 차원에서 이들 성인의 선택과 결단을 바라보기 때문이다. 일본의 에도시대 反주자학의 기치를 드높였던 蘐園學派의 다쟈이 슌다이(太宰春臺)의 經權論의 핵심은 ‘安民’ 또는 ‘安民’이라는 만화경을 통한 현실정치에서의 실리성 여부이다. 茶山이나 程朱가 순우곤이 말하는 소위 權의 적극적 활용에 강력한 비판으로 대처하였던 것에 비해, 太宰春臺은 현실의 급무를 해결할 사실상의 최상의 선택이 權道이며, 이를 거부하고 한결같이 선왕의 道를 고집하는 맹자와 같은 인물은 현실적 대안을 실행할 의지도 용기도 없는 책상 위의 유자, 혹은 饒舌家에 불과하다 비난하였다. 왜냐하면 공자 또한 德治가 사라진 亂世에 先王의 德을 고집하기보다 현실적 功을 세워 衰世를 구하는 것이 최선의 방책임을 알았기에 공산불요와 필힐의 부름에 기꺼이 가고자 하였다고 슌다이는 읽었다. 따라서 슌다이에 있어 원칙불변의 經道만을 고집하는 태도는 현실인식 부족과 古經의 공자의 본의에 대한 몰이해에 기반한다. Jing-quan Lun(經權論) is a fierce debate on the fundamental principles and morals that should be kept in an unpredictable life. It may be also regarded as an ethical approach to dilemmatic tense relations between purpose and means. The purpose of this study was to investigate Jing-quan Lun by Dasan Jeong, Yak-Yong who was a statesmen of Joseon in the 18th century and by Dazai Shundai, a Japanese statesman of the Sorai school who criticized highbrow moral principles of the Sung-Confucianism and pursued as the ultimate way real politics' utilitarian development and contribution to the well-being of people. Dasan(茶山) warned against consequential evils from Chinese Confucian scholars' logic of anti-quan and compliance with dao li, or bangyeong hapdo. He basically supported Cheng Yi's kwonjisigyeong suggesting that the development of moderation in time was the standard of the way of quan. Thus, he claimed that abdication by Yao and Shuan on the basis of virtue, Kija's royalty to the Shang dynasty that was being about to collapse, and king Tang's expulsion of king Jie and king Wu's conquest of king Zhou in accordance with heavenly mandates were all examples that saints practiced the way of moderation best appropriate for their situation. In this case, Dasan didn't care whom of the saints were superior or inferior because he judged their choices and decisions not from the perspective of Chu-Shi's Jin-quan, but from that of 'the way' that was ahead of Jing-quan and thought to be flowing through it. Dajai Shundai(太宰春臺) was a member of the Sorai school that definitely opposed the Sung-Confucianism in the Japanese Edo period. As far as he was concerned, the utility of real politics was the key orientation of Jing-quan Lun. He suggested that Cheng-Chou's invariable adherence to moral rules was because of their lack in the awareness of the reality and little understanding of Confucius' true intent. Since ‘the way of quan' is only the best to solve emergencies of the real world, according to Shundai, figures like Mencius who adhered only to ‘the way of the former kings' irrespective of period and condition are nothing but naive Confucians or even men of big mouth. Instead, Shundai found Confucius a figure who knew it would be best to perform meritorious deeds to save the real world from deterioration and collapse rather than just following the virtue of the former kings in a turbulent age when there's no rule by virtue.
