        조선후기에 "카메라 옵스큐라"로 초상화를 그렸다 -정조 시절 정약용의 증언과 이명기의 초상화법을 중심으로

        Tasan put camera obscura which is a perspective of the pin-hole camera to the test and testimony in 1987, and there is a possibility of using in the portrait paintings drawn by Lee Myunggi. The fact that Lee drew portrait paintings using camera obscura would be just a hypothesis until the real documents come out. However the portrait paintings made by Lee having a expression of a three-dimentional effect on corrugation, taking a pose exposed hands, and handling oblique lines on the floor similar to perspective, have a new change by something external. At a guess the thing changed Lee`s art of drawing would be the influence of camera obscura coming from China. Especially at Yu Unho painting made in 1789 there is a phrase that YongCheJangHwal(容體長闊) ShiWonShinGamIlBan(視元身減一半) which it means the reduction ratio of a portrait. Making the recuction ratio of a portrait clear and the beauty of form show the certain fact of using camera obscura. Needless to say, by Tasan`s testimony we can be proud that camera obscura was used in the late Chosun. There are little cases on the evidence or document using camera obscura in the 16th to 19th centuries Western painting history. In this point, the thing which Tasan tested camera obscura and the portraits by it drew, is very valuable in the world scientific history and the painting history. In a way, Tasan and Lee`s test and testimony were very important, as the entering 19th century their achievements remained obscure. Choi Hangi, Lee Kyugyong, and others partly tested optical instruments, but realism of paintings rapidly declined. Lee`s portraits are simple and plain in comparison with Western portraits taking well lighting. But In Lee`s portraits are worth well seeing the using of camera obscura. In the view of exposing the truth of the object, the exploiting on the stereography suitable for our face and clothing is brilliant artistry. So Lee`s portraits can be a good classical example having realism and modernity in the late Chosun cultural history.

      • Combined Gene Therapy with Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α and Heme Oxygenase-1 for Therapeutic Angiogenesis

        <P>Transfection with either hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) or heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) gene can induce neovascularization in ischemic tissues. Although expression of transfected HIF-1α gene occurs rapidly, the expressed HIF-1α protein degrades quickly, limiting its therapeutic efficacy. Meanwhile, expressed HO-1 protein does not rapidly undergo degradation, but gene expression occurs a couple of days after transfection, resulting in apoptosis and a delay in angiogenesis in ischemic tissues at the incipient period of HO-1 gene transfection. We hypothesize that combined delivery of HIF-1α and HO-1 gene will enhance antiapoptosis and neovascularization in ischemic tissue compared with HIF-1α or HO-1 single-gene therapy. To test this hypothesis, ischemic mouse hindlimbs were treated with HIF-1α and/or HO-1 gene therapy. The combined gene therapy proved superior to both single-gene therapies, resulting in rapid expression of HIF-1α gene and long-term maintenance of expressed HO-1 protein. The apoptosis in the ischemic region was significantly less, and angiogenic growth factor secretion and angiogenesis were greater in the combined gene therapy than in either of the single-gene therapies. Our results suggest that a combined gene therapy of HIF-1α and HO-1 enhances the transfection of both genes and improves angiogenesis compared with either single-gene therapy.</P>

      • Characterization and multicolor upconversion emission properties of BaMoO<sub>4</sub>: Yb<sup>3+</sup>, Ln<sup>3+</sup> (Ln = Tm, Ho, Tm/Ho) microcrystals

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Hydrothermal process was employed to synthesize the Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>/Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>, Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>/Ho<SUP>3+</SUP> and Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>/Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>/Ho<SUP>3+</SUP> doped BaMoO<SUB>4</SUB> octahedron microcrystals (0.50–5.0 µm). The synthesized phosphors have scheelite tetragonal structure. The elemental mapping suggests the uniform distribution of elements in the samples. The oxidation state of samples were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) which indicates the existence of Ba<SUP>2+</SUP>, Mo<SUP>6+</SUP>, O, Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>, Tm<SUP>3+</SUP> and Ho<SUP>3+</SUP> in samples. The presence of rare earth ions was also verified by observation of specific absorption peaks in diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS). The tunable multicolor upconversion (UC) emissions were successfully obtained under 980 nm NIR excitation by precisely adjusting the concentration of rare earth ions. The as prepared sample exhibits blue, green and red emission as a result of energy transfer from the Yb<SUP>3+</SUP> to Tm<SUP>3+</SUP> and Ho<SUP>3+</SUP> ions. The power dependent UC emission spectra show the two photonic processes.       • 冠岳樹木園地域內 荒廢山地土壤의 肥沃化를 통한 綠化促進에 關한 硏究

        冠岳樹木園地域의 山腹斜面은 地質的으로 대보화강암에서 풍화생성된 거친 돌부수러기가 많은 粗砂質壤土로 구성되었으므로 表土層의 土壤流失이 심하여 土深이 대단히 얕거나 岩盤露出이 심하여 林木生長이 심히 不良한 地帶로서,山地의 地力恢復 및 現存하는 散生樹木의 生長力恢復을 通한 山地綠化保全이 시급히 요청되고 있다. 이와같은 요청에 부응하여 荒廢地斜面에 自生하고있는 주요한 4樹種(소나무, 리기다소나무, 노간주나무, 철쭉)에 대하여 山地施肥效果 試驗을 春期와 秋期로 나누어 실시한 결과 樹高 및 直徑生長量에 있어서 無施肥區에 比하여 현저한 施肥效果가 인정되었다. 따라서 冠岳山地帶의 荒廢地를 조속히 復舊綠化하기 위해서는 砂防土木的 工事方法 및 砂防造林的 播植方法이외에도 현존 수목의 保全 및 生長力恢復을 통한 速成綠化方法도 채용되어야 할 것이다. Hillsides in the Kwanak arboretum area were composed mainly of coarse sandy loam having relatively high proportion of rough weathered debris derived from the Daebo granite geologically. Owing to heavy soil erosion resulted to shallow soil depth and heavy rock exposures, the growing trees in this type of surface soil are very poor in their growth. For woody plant vegetation establishment in this montain area, it is urgent to recover the fertility of soil and the growth of existing trees. For this purpose, in spring and autumn season in 1983∼84 the fertilization experiment was conducted with the 4 principal native species(Pinus densiflora, Pinus rigida, Juniperus rigida, Rhododendron schlippenbachii) growing in this denuded forest land, and the effects of fertilized tree plots were more prominent than the control plot in both height and root-collar diameter growth. Therefore, the accelerating measures of vegetation rehabilitation through conservation of existing trees and recovery of tree growth by forest fertilization practices, besides forest engineering measur es and soil erosion control afforestation measures, could be acceptable as the measures for the recovery of denuded forest land in Mt. Kwanak area.

        정신분열병에 대한 리스페리돈의 효과 및 안정성

        연구목적 : 본 시험의 목적은 임상시험 시작전에 연구자들을 대상으로 PANSS Workshop을 통하여 PANSS, ESRS에 대한 국내에서의 표준화 작업을 구축하고 새로운 정신병 치료제인 리스페리돈의 효과와 안정성을 재확인하여 리스페리돈 사용에 대한 적정화를 이루는데 있다. 연구방법 : 1996년 4월부터 1996년 9월까지 국내 39개 대학병원 정신과에 입원중인 혹은 증상이 악화되어 입원하는 정신분열병 환자 377명을 대상으로 다시설 개방 연구를 시행하였다. 1주일간의 약물 배설기간을 가진후, 리스페리돈을 8주간 투여하였고, 기준점, 1주, 2주, 4주, 그리고 8주후에 평가되었다. 용량은 제1일에는 리스페리돈 1mg씩 1일 2회, 제2일에는 2mg씩 1일 2회, 제3∼7일에는 3mg씩 1일 2회 투여하였다. 이후 환자의 임상상태에 따라 임의로 증량할 수 있으며, 최대 일일 16mg을 초과하지 않도록 하였다. 추체외로 증상을 조절하기 위한 투약을 허용하였다. 임상증상 및 부작용의 평가는 PANSS(Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale), CGI(Clinical Global Impression) 그리고 ESRS(Extrapyramidal Symptom Rating Scale)을 사용하였다. 연구결과 : 377명중 343명(91%)이 8주간의 연구를 완결하였다. 치료 종결시점인 8주후 PANSS 총점수가 20% 이상 호전된 경우를 약물 반응군으로 정의할때, 약물반응군은 81.3%였다. 리스페리돈에 반응하는 예측인자로는 발병연령, 이전의 입원 횟수, 유병기간이 관련 있었다. 리스페리돈은 1주후부터 PANSS양성, 음성, 및 일반정신병리 점수상에 유의한 호전을 보여 효과가 빨랐다. CGI의 경우도 기준점에 비해 1주후부터 유의한 감소를 나타내었다. ESRS의 경우, 파킨슨 평가점수는 기준점과 비교해 투여 1주, 2주, 4주후 유의하게 증가되었다가 8주후 기준점과 차이가 없었다. Dystonia 평가점수는 1주후만 유의한 증가를 보였으며, dyskinesia 평가점수는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 혈압, 맥박수의 생명징후 및 일반 혈액학 검사, 생화학적 검사, 심전도 검사에서 유의한 변화는 없었다. 결 론 : 이상의 다시설 개방 임상 연구를 통해 리스페리돈은 정신분열병 환자에서 양성증상뿐만 아니라 음성증상 및 전반적인 증상에도 효과적인 것으로 사료된다. 보다 명확한 평가를 위해서는 다른 항정신병약물과의 이중맹검 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각되며, 또한 장기적 치료에 대한 평가도 함께 이루어져야 하겠다. Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of risperidone in the treatment of Korean schizophrenic patients. Method : This multicenter open study included 377 schizophrenic patients drawn from 39 university hospitals. After a wash-out period of 1 week, the schizophrenic patients were treated with risperidone for 8 weeks and evaluated at 5 points ; at baseline, and 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks of treatment. The dose was increased from 2mg/day(1mg twice daily) to 6mg/day(3mg twice daily) during the first week and adjusted to a maximum of 16mg/day over the next 7 weeks according to the patient's clinical response. Medication to control extrapyramidal symptoms was permitted. The psychiatric and neurological status of the patients was assessed by PANSS, CGI, and ESRS scales. Results : 343(91%) of 377 patients completed the 8-week trial period. Clinical improvement, as defined by a 20% or more reduction in total PANSS score at end point, was shown by 81.3% of patients. The predictors of response to risperidone were associated older age, shorter duration of illness, fewer previous hospitalization. Risperidone had rapid onset of action ; a significant decrease of the total PANSS and three PANSS factor(positive, negative, general), and CGI was already noticed at the end of first week. For the ESRS, parkinsonism rating scores were significantly increased until week 4 comparing with baseline. Dystonia rating scores were significantly increased until week 1, and dyskinesia rating scores were not significantly changed during the study. Laboratory parameters including vital sign, EKG, hematological, and biochemical values showed no significant changes during the trial. Conclusions : This study suggests that risperidone is generally safe and effective against both the positive and negative symptoms in our group of patients.

      • Induction of heme oxygenase-1 protects against podocyte apoptosis under diabetic conditions

        Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is an anti-oxidant enzyme normally upregulated in response to oxidant injury. Here we determined the role of HO-1 in podocyte apoptosis in glomeruli of streptozotocin-treated rats and in immortalized mouse podocytes cultured in media containing normal or high glucose. HO-1 expression, its activity, the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 protein, and active caspase-3 fragments were all significantly higher in isolated glomeruli of diabetic rats and in high glucose–treated podocytes. These increases were inhibited by zinc protoporphyrin treatment of the rats or by HO-1 siRNA treatment of the podocytes in culture. The number of apoptotic cells was also significantly increased in the glomeruli of diabetic rats and in high glucose–treated podocytes. Inhibition of HO-1 accentuated the increase in apoptotic cells both in vivo and in vitro. Our findings suggest that HO-1 expression protects against podocyte apoptosis under diabetic conditions.

        Fluoxetine and Sertraline Attenuate Postischemic Brain Injury in Mice

        This study aimed to investigate whether selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) attenuate brain injury and facilitate recovery following photothrombotic cortical ischemia in mice. Male ICR mice were anesthetized and systemically administered Rose Bengal. Permanent focal ischemia was induced in the medial frontal and somatosensory cortices by irradiating the skull with cold light laser. The animals were treated with fluoxetine or sertraline once a day for 14 d starting 1 h after ischemic insult. Treatment with fluoxetine and sertraline significantly reduced the infarct size. The Evans blue extravasation indices of the fluoxetine- and sertraline-treated groups were significantly lower than that of the vehicle group. Treatment with fluoxetine and sertraline shifted the lower limit of the mean arterial blood pressure for cerebral blood flow autoregulation toward normal, and significantly increased the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1Ձ (HIF-1Ձ) proteins in the ischemic region. These results suggest that SSRIs, such as fluoxetine and sertraline, facilitate recovery following photothrombotic cortical ischemia via enhancement of HO-1 and HIF-1Ձ proteins expression, thereby providing a benefit in therapy of cerebral ischemia.

      • 말쥐치 가공중 향기성분에 관하여

        쥐치의 향기성분을 동정하기 위하여 Likerson형의 연속증류추출 및 탄산가스추출법을 이용하여 휘발성 성분을 동정하였다. 그 결과 중성획분에서 55 성분, pherol성획분에서 4 성분, 염기성획분에서 13 성분 및 ㅅ산성획분에서 10 성분이 분리·동정되었고 중성획분에서는 가열·배소 후 propanol, butanol, octanol, dodecanol등의 alcoholfb 그리고 pentanal, hexanal, 2-methyl-l-propanal, heptenal등의 aldehyde의 함량이 크게 증가하여 flavor 형성에 크게 기여할 것으로 생각되어 진다. 분리·동정된 phenol류는 분자량(m/e) 100~160 정도로 나타났으며, 염기성획분에서는 2-methylpyrazine, 2,5-dimethylpyrazine, 2-ethyl=3,5-dimethylpyrazine 등과 2-methylpyridine등이 동정되었다. 이들과 함께 중성획부에서 동정된 furan류가 가열온도의 증가와 함께 그 함량이 증가하였다. 산성획분에서는 배소시료 구분에서 isoaproic acid 및 caproic acid의 함량이 많았다. Volatile compounds were collected by simultaneous distillation extraction and carbon dioxide method, and analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The neutral fraction obtained from the whole steam volatile concentrate 55 kinds of components, phenolic fraction had 4 kinds of components, basic fraction had 13 kinds of components and 10 kinds of components were in acidic fraction. Alcohols, propanols, butanols, octanols, dodecanols etc. and aldehydes, pentanals, hexanal, 2-methyl-1-propanal, heptenal etc. were highly increased after boiled and roasted. And these compounds were contributed to formation of filefish flavor. The molecular ion peak of phenolic fraction was generally appeared in the range 100 to about 160. From the basic fraction, 2-methylpyrazine, 2,5-dimethylpyrazine, 2-ethyl-3,5-dimethylpyrazine and 2-methylpyridine were identified. The contents of basic compounds and furans obtained from the neutral fraction were increased at the higher heating temperature. The flavor of acidic fraction was influenced by the low molecular as isovaleric and valeric acid.

        Correlation Between Constituent Phase and Weld Metal Properties in Ni-Reduced Duplex Stainless Steel

        The intrinsic properties of austenite and ferrite on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the duplex stainlesssteel weld metals was studied by substituting Ni with Mn, N, and Mn + N. The properties of the weldments fabricated throughgas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) were evaluated using tensile test, Vickers hardness, and potentiodynamic polarizationtests. The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the constituent phases were measured using nanoindentationand electron probe microanalysis, respectively. The austenite and ferrite phase fractions of the weld metal were maintainedat approximately 50:50, and no harmful phases degraded the properties. Excessive Mn decreased the corrosion resistance; alarge difference in corrosion resistance between austenite and ferrite also decreased the overall corrosion resistance. In thefiller metal in which Ni was replaced with only Mn or N, the austenite became harder than ferrite, as a result cracks initiatedinside the austenite. The tensile test showed that austenite, which became a relatively hard phase compared to ferrite accordingto the chemical composition, increased the yield strength and decreased the elongation of the weld metal.
