      • Platycodon grandiflorum root-derived saponins attenuate atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions via suppression of NF-kB and STAT1 and activation of Nrf2/ARE-mediated heme oxygenase-1

        Purpose: The consequences of precipitously rising allergic skin inflammation rates worldwide have accelerated the risk of atopic dermatitis (AD). Natural product-based agents with good efficacy and low risk of side effects offer promising prevention and treatment strategies for inflammation-related diseases. We have already reported that Platycodon grandiflorum root-derived saponins (Changkil saponins, CKS) have many pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects, but its influence on AD remains unclear. Therefore, we evaluated the inhibitory effect of CKS, mainly platycodin D, on AD-like skin symptoms in mice and the possible mechanisms in cells. Methods: Mice were sensitized and challenged with 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB). Four weeks after challenge, mice were treated with oral administration of CKS for 4 weeks. In addition, cells were used to evaluate the effect of CKS, mainly platycodin D, on the TARC expression regulated mechanism. Results: CKS attenuated DNCB-induced dermatitis severity, serum levels of IgE and TARC, and mRNA expression of TARC, TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 in mice. Histopathological examination showed reduced thickness of the epidermis/dermis and dermal infiltration of inflammatory cells and mast cells in the ears. Moreover, CKS and platycodin D inhibited TNF-α/IFN-γ-induced TARC expression through the suppression of NF-κB and STAT1 and induction of Nrf2/ARE-mediated hemeoxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression in cells. Conclusion: We suggest that CKS and platycodin D inhibited the development of AD-like skin symptoms by regulating cytokine mediators and may be an effective alternative therapy for AD-like skin symptoms.ⓒ2014 Elsevler Gmbh.         In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

      • 절삭공구 팁의 TiCN코팅 특성

        As the machine tool industry progresses, the performance of cutting tools also needs to be of good quality and specialized. If the existing metal cutting tool tip is coated properly, its life would be longer and the machining of a difficult-to-cut material also could be possible. For the development of the high quality cutting tool, the applicabilities of TiCN coating deposited by PVD on the cutting insert were experimentally investigated. The various analyses such as SEM micrograph, XRD pattern, AFM surface morphology, and hardness were performed to cross-check the possibility and availability of TiCN coated tool in the field.

      • 전단벽의 응력해석에 관한 실험적 연구

        Shear wall plays an important role in securing lateral stability for a structure that is influenced by lateral forces. It is considered that the theoretical equations which have been used in the stress analysis of shear wall involve so many assumptions and much complexity an exact solution is very hard to be obtained. Stresses of shear walls are obtained by making a series of photo-elastic experiment on 9 kinds of shear wall models and also fininte element method using computer is applied to the same models. Two theoretical analysis methods which are different each other, one by Magnus and the other by A. Coull, are computed and compared with the photo-elastic experimental stresses. Besides, experimental equations are aquired for both lintel beams and wall elements for the purpose of being applicable to the analysis more easily and accurately. As a result, it is found that the experimental values are almost the same as the two theoretical ones on lintel beams, but it is more justifiable to use A. Coull's method comprising shearing deformation than Magnus' one neglecting that. While experimental values are almost the same as ones by A. Coull's method, which proposed the possibility to be applied, there exists such a large discrepancy between experimental values and ones by Magnus' method that it has a problem to be applied to the analysis of stresses on wall elements.

        Shakespeare의 King Lear는 특별히 상상적이며 상징적인 작품이어서 허구라는 인상이 강하고 비현실적 요소가 많다는 것도 여러 비평가들이 지적하고 있지만 이 작품이 표면적으로는 모순처럼 보이는 사실들도 작가의 특별한 의도만 이해한다면 작품의 의미는 쉽게 설명될 수 있을 것이다. 그의 의도는 바로 현실보다 한층더 높은 질서를 암시하는 일이었다. 따라서 작품 King Lear의 강조점은 질서파괴와 복구의 과정에서 인간의 자기인식과 뉘우침을 가능한한 깊이 그려보려는 것이었다고 본다. 그러므로 Shakespeare가 그의 관심이 인간의 육체적 연령과는 상관없이 정신적 재생에 있기 때문이며 그의 주인공의 연령과 그가 고통을 통해서 얻어지는 새로운 인간정신을 극적으로 대조기키고 있다 하겠다. Lear의 80여년간 자기자신밖에 모르는 군주로서의 생활은 인생의 서장에 불과하며 결코 그것이 진실된 인간이 아니라는 것을 보여주려고 했다. 더욱 King Lear속에 나타나는 잔인한 행위들은 많은 학자들로 하여금 이 작품에는 정의로운 신의 뜻도 없으며 인간의 고통에 대한 위안과 희망도 보여주지 않기 때문에 비종교적 비극이라고 부르게 만들었ㅅ다. 그러나 보다 세심한 주의를 해보게되면 Lear 와 Gloucester 가 당하는 고통은 인간의 자기각성과 속죄행위를 통하여 보다 높은 질서회복의 과정을 강조하기 위함이라고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 King Lear의 세계도 전체적인 효과면에 있어서 Hamlet 나 Othello, Macbeth의 세계와 같이 정의로운 신의 손이 미치는 세계의 모습을 보여주는 극적 구조로서 질서가 지배하는 조화로운 세계로 보고 싶다.

        인코넬 690 합금의 크리프거동

        Inconel 690 alloy has widely been used in power plant and high temperature facilities because it has high thermal resistance and toughness. But, we have little design data about the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, an apparatus has been designed and built for conduction creep tests under constant load conditions. A series of creep tests on Inconel 690 alloy have been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of inconel products and we have gotten the following results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increase. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decreases as the stresses becomes bigger. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Moller parameters on this alloy is estimated about 10. And last, the fractographs at the creep rupture show both the ductile and the brittle fracture according to the creep conditions.

        본 논문은 대형증기발생기(일명, 보일러) 급수계통의 비선형 모델링 및 선형화, 이산시스템으로의 변환과 시스템 특성에 관한 해석을 다루었다. 대상으로한 시스템은 보령화력발전소 제1호기 보일러 급수계통이며 모델링은 절충식을 도입하였고, 실제 운전 데이타와 설계사양에 의한 모델보정, 파라메타 추정을 시도하여 비선형 모델을 구축하였으며, 제어 및 분석을 위해 선형화를 실시하고 선형 모델로 전환한 후 이를 다시 이산 시스템으로 변환하여 Bode선도와 근궤적에 의해 시스템의 성질을 규명하였다. This paper describes the nonlinear dynamic modelling, linearization, discrete type transition and system analysis for large scale steam generator feed water system. The test plant is Poyrung thermal power plant No.1. Modelling technique is complement method. With operating data and design spec., model tuning, parameter estimation and dynamic modelling were executed. Linearization was executed for control/ analysis. After this, linear model was analyzed with Bode plot and root locus method.

        This paper presents analysis and design for mobile phones with antennas using MoM (Method of Moment). Proposed the new method that is able to consider improvement of the SAR(Specific absorption rate) from the very beginning step of developing the mobile phones. It is essential for the handset to be small size and light weight to realize mobile communication service. Also it is urgent to reduce SAR about human body(especially head). Therefore, basic analysis is necessary to solve problem of the SAR. And the theoretical analysis of antenna is important for the handset design. In addition, by developing the fundamental technology such as SAR reduction equipment, small directive antenna, we can insure basic technology for next research and development. It is also expected that the development of the next generation mobile handset system can be achieved by our technology. These will have significant effects on the related technology.
