Objectives : To compare the presence of telomerase activity(TA) in the chorionic villi between eutopic and ectopic first trimester human pregnancies. Methods : Human chorionic villi were obtained from eleven normal eutopic pregnant women who underwent an elective abortion, and from eleven women with ectopic pregnancy who underwent a salpingectomy for tubal pregnancy. TA was analyzed by radioisotope polymerase chain reaction based telomeric repeat amplification protocol(TRAP) assay. Results : TA was expressed in 5 of 11 (45.5%) in eutopic pregnancies, and in 7 of 11(63.6%) in ectopic pregnancies. Chorionic villi in ectopic pregnancies were expressed more frequently than those of eutopic pregnancies, this difference was not significant.(p$gt;0.05) Conclusion : Our results suggest that the expression of TA in human chorionic villi was not affected according to the implantation site during early placental development.

Background: To evaluate the efficacy of peri-urethral thrombin instillation at the surgical site after trans-urethral prostate surgery in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), with the objective of reducing post-operative hematuria and preserving voiding function. Methods: The study was retrospectively analyzed a total of 122 patients who had trans-urethral prostate surgery between January 2019 and March 2023. Among these, 33 received thrombin instillation, while 89 did not receive it. In the test group, a mixture of 5 cc of saline solution and 5,000 IU of thrombin was instilled below the balloon, targeting the surgical site by inserting a 5 Fr feeding tube along with the Foley catheter. We compared hematologic data and uroflowmetry (UFM) between pre and post-operative periods, the duration of continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) and Foley catheter indwelling period. Results: The mean age and prostate size in the test group were 71.52±7.15 years and 54.05±24.73 g, while 71.38±8.22 years and 64.52±28.43 g in the control group. The prostate resected weight was 24.97±15.77 g and 27.58±17.00 g respectively. The hemoglobin and platelet levels were −1.05±0.81 g/dL and −42.79±35.59×103/L in the test group, and −1.08±0.97 g/dL and −27.93±40.49×103/L, in the control group. The test group showed better outcomes in CBI application time (21.31±12.15 hours) and Foley catheter indwelling time (50.97±14.63 hours) compared to the control group (34.42±22.68 hours and 70.33±33.95 hours) (P<0.001). Conclusion: After trans-urethral prostate surgery, thrombin agent instillation can prevent post-operative hematuria and facilitate quicker recovery to daily activities.

후방 전위된 요추부 추간판 탈출증에 동반된 마미증후군 2례를 수술적으로 치료하여 완전한 신경기능 회복을 얻을 수 있었다. 본 증례 보고의 목적은 유리되어 후방 전위된 요추간판 탈출증에 동반된 마미증후군 2례에 대한 보고와 함께 이에 대한 치료로서 조기 진단과 조기 암압술의 중요성을 강조하고자 하였다. We have experienced 2 patients with dorsally migrated sequestrated lumbar disc herniation with cauda equina syndrome and obtained a complete motor and sensory recovery after early decompressive laminectorny and discectomy with or without fusion in all cases. The purpose of this paper is to report two unusual cases of lumbar disc herniation that we experienced, and to emphasize the importance of early decompressive surgery for the treatment of cauda equina syndrome accompanied with dorsally migrated sequestrated lumbar disc herniation.

A successful therapy of community-acquired pneumonia requires appropriate empirical antimicrobial therapy. Etiology and antimicrobial susceptibility of major pathogens of pneumonia can differ by country. Therefore, an ideal treatment guideline of community-acquired pneumonia should be based on the studies performed in each country. We developed a treatment guideline for community-acquired pneumonia in immunocompetent adults in Korea. This guideline was developed by the joint committee of the Korean Society for Chemotherapy, the Korean Society of Infectious Diseases, and the Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory diseases.

<P>The operation mode of thermal power plants has been changed from the base load to duty cycle. From the changeover, fossil power plants cannot avoid frequent thermal transient state, for example, start up and stop, which results in thermal fatigue damage at the heavy section components. The rotor is the highest capital cost component in steam turbine and requires long outage for replacing the new one. For optimized power plant operation life and inspection management of rotor is necessary. It is known as general that start-up and shutdown operation greatly affect on steam turbine life. The start-up operation condition is especially severe because of the rapid temperature and rotational speed increase, which causes damage and reduction of main components life of steam turbine. The start-up stress of rotor which is directly related life is composed of thermal and rotational stresses. The thermal stress is due to the variation of steam flow temperature and rotational stress is due to the rotation speed of itself. In this paper, the analysis method of start-up stress of rotor which considers simultaneously temperature and rotation speed transition is proposed, which includes a case study regarding 500MW fossil power plant steam turbine rotor. Also, the method of damage quantitative estimation of fatigue damage to operation condition is described. The method can be applied to find weak points to the fatigue damage. Using the method, total life consumption can be obtained, and can be also used for determining future operation mode and the life extension of old fossil power units.</P>

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) states that the recommended horizontal accuracy for coastal and offshore areas is 10 m, the Alert Limit (AL) is 25 m, the time to alert is 10 seconds, and the integrity risk (IR) is 10-5 per three hours. For operations requiring high accuracy, such as tugs and pushers, icebreakers, and automated docking, the IMO dictates that a high level of positioning accuracy of less than one meter and a protection level of 0.25 meters (for automated docking) to 2.5meters should be achieved. In this paper, we analyze a method of calculating the user-side protection level of the centimeterlevel precision Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) that is being studied to provide augmentation information for the precision Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) service. In addition, we analyze standardized integrity forms based on RTCM SC-134 to propose an integrity information form and generate a centimeter-level precise PNT service plan.
