Nitric Oxide (NO), derived from L-arginine, is produced by two types (constitutive and inducible) of nitric oxide synthase (NOS: cNOS and iNOS). The NO produced in large amounts by the iNOS is known to be responsible for the vasodilation and hypotension observed in septic shock and inflammation. The inhibitors of iNOS, thus, may be useful candidate for the treatment of inflammatory diseases accompanied by the overproduction of NO. We prepared alcoholic extracts of herbal drugs which have been used for the treatment of inflammation in oriental medicine. We have screened the inhibitory activity of NO production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated macrophages after the treatment of these extracts. Among the 81 kinds of extracts of herbal drugs, 34 extracts showed potent inhibitory activity of NO production above 50% at the concentration of 50 (μg/ml. The inhibitory activities of NO production were also evaluated for several solvent fractions at three different concentrations. Especially, hexane soluble fractions of Agrimonia pilosa, Hydrangea serrata, Machilus thunbergii, Prunella vulgaris, Saussurea lappa, Tussilago farfara, and ethyl acetate soluble fractions of Angelica gigas, Ostericum koreanum, Torilis japonica, Perilla frutescence showed moderate activity at 10 and/ or 25 (μg/ml. These fractions are promising candidates for the study of the activity-guided chromatographic purification of active compounds.
한국산 바질(Ocimum basilicum L.)의 휘발성 성분

동시증류추출장치를 사용하여 분리한 Sweet계 바질(Ocimum basilicum)의 4개 품종(anise, darkopal, lettuce, sweet)의 휘발성 성분을 GC/MSD로 확인하였다 확인된 성분을 기능기별로 분류하면 alcohol 성분들이 11종, carbonyl 화합물이 6종, terpene 관련 화합물이 19종. ester 화합물이 5종으로 나타났다. 주요 화합물들은 1,8-cineole(2.86∼5.04%), camphor(1.07∼l.87%), α-Bergamotene(2.05∼5.40%), methyl chavicol(0∼25.49%), eugenol (3.55∼13.53%) 등의 carbonyl 화합물과 linalool(28.52∼36.50%), bornyl acetate(0.48∼2.79%), methyl cinnamate(0∼23.12%)등의 alcohol과 ester류, cis-ocimene(1.15∼2.02%), β -cubebene(2.77∼4.80%), cadinene(1.08∼1.70%)등의 terpene 화합물이 주요 성분으로 확인되었다. Darkopal, lettuce, sweet 바질은 linalool(30.09∼35.50%), methyl chavicol(8.09∼25.49%)이 주요 성분으로 나타났고, Anise 바질은 linalool(28.52%), methyl cinnamate(23.12%)가 주요 성분으로 확인되었으나 바질의 주요성분으로 알려져 있는 methyl chavicol은 검출되지 않았다. The essential oils of anise, darkopal, lettuce and sweet basils cultivated in Korea were extracted by simultaneous steam distillation and extraction method and were analyzed by GC/MSD. Total 41 components were identified in essential oils including 11 alcohols, 6 carbonyls, 19 hydrocarbons and 5 esters components. The major components were 1,8-cineole, linalool, α-bergamotene, β-elemene, methyl chavicol, β-cubebene, methyl cinnamate and eugenol. Darkopal, lettuce and sweet basils were rich in linalool(30. 1∼36.5%), methyl chavicol(8.1∼25.5%) and relatively poor in methyl cinnamate(0∼2.71%). Anise basil was rich in linalool(28.5%) and methyl cinnamate(23.1%). However, methyl chavicol, which was known as one of the main components of basil, was not detected.
실험적으로 유도된 당뇨백서의 심근병증에 관한 조직병리학적 연구

Diabetes mellitus revealed a chronic disorder of lipid, carbohydrate and protein metabolism characterized by insulin deficiency, and a striking tendency toward development of atherosclerosis, microangiopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy and recently cardiomyopathy etc. The mechanism of heart failure in patients with diabetic cardiomyopathy is not clear but diabetic cardiomyopathy usually occurs in persons with long standing diabetes. After diabetes induced in made Sprague- Dawley strain rats by injection of streptozotocin(60mg/kg), cardiac tissue with hematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome stain was examined at 3 days, 1, 2, 4, 6 weeks later under light microscope. The results were obtained as follows : 1. In H&E stain of control group, myocardiac cells were shorter than skeletal muscle cell, which was branched out and connected each other at terminal with striation, intercalated disk and nucleus at center of cell. 2. In MT stain of control group, a few of collagen fibrile were seen at periva interstium, but wasn't seen between skeletal muscle fiber, and cardiac muscle was seen in various size. 3. In MT stain of experimental group, increased collagen fiber deposition at perivascular interstiums were seen periodically. 4. In MT stain of experimental group, increased collagen fiber deposition at interstitial matrix between perimyocardiac cells were seen at 3 day, 4 weeks and 6 weeks after DM induction. 5. In H&E stain of experimental group, partial degeneration of myocardiac cells was seen after 4 weeks of DM induction. From above results, streptozotocin induced diabetes mellitus increased collagen around perivascular and between intercellular matrix in heart.
함구리 황산폐액으로부터 LIX84-Kerosene-Span80-H₂SO₄계 유화형 액막법에 의한 구리의 분리 농축

The separation and extraction of copper from waste water solutions by the liquid surfactant membrane process using LM84 as an extractant and Span 80 as a surfactant were investigated . In extraction, the extraction rate of copper was greatly accelerated by the presence of sodium acetate and with the increase of pH in the aqueous feed solution. The optimum concentrations of LIX84 and Span 80 in the membrane phase were 7-10 vol. % and 2.5-3vol. %, respectively. Experiments also showed that the concentration ratio of copper was greatly enhanced with the decrease of the ratio of V_(e) and V_(w) and with the decreasing of A/O ratio. After the extraction process, the concentration of copper in the raffinate solution reduced to 1-2 ppm, and the concentration of copper in the internal aqueous solution increased to 20 gll. P2P 모델에 기반한 혼합형 파일 검색 알고리즘의 설계

Recently, peer-to-peer model is more preferable to client-server model in developing file sharing systems because of desirable features of the first such as scalability, anonymity, security, fault-tolerance and so on. However, the most well-known P2P file sharing systems Napster and Gnutella result in some scalability problems, centralized control and broadcasting in file searching, respectively. To address the problems, ultrapeers and dynamic routing techniques were proposed but, cannot still avoid incurring long response times and low recall rates of rare files. This paper presents a hybrid strategy to use existing Gnutella-like techniques for locating popular files and DHT-like techniques for searching rare ones. In particular, we propose an efficient DHT algorithm to structure a node ring consisting of only ultrapeers, not all the nodes. This feature makes the algorithm more scalable than the previous DHT ones in terms of the costs of file search, node join and leave operations and the number of routing table entries each node should maintain.
