Wasabi 정유는 다음과 같이 추출하였다. wasabi 분말에 같은 양의 물을 넣고 1시간 방치 후 물을 더 넣고 증류하였다. 증류분에 디에틸 에테르를 넣고 wasabi 성분을 추출하고, 다음에 에테르를 증발시켜 노란색의 정유를 얻었다. 이 정유는 wasabi의 독특한 향기를 나타내었다. 이 정유의 농도가 200, 400 및 600ppm인 배지에서 Lactobacillus plantarum을 배양하였다. 200ppm과 400ppm을 함유한 배지에서의 유도기는 각각 24시간과 39시간이었으며, 유도기 후에는 박테리아가 자랐으나 600ppm을 함유한 배지에서는 박테리아가 억제되어 48시간이 경과하여도 증식하지 않았다. 또한 600ppm을 함유한 배지의 억제율은 시간이 증가함에 따라 점차 증가하였다. The essential oil of wasabi was extracted as follows. The same amount of water was added to wasabi flour and the mixture was allowed to stand for a hour. More water was added to it and the mixture distilled and the distillate was extracted with diethyl ether. A yellow essential oil was obtained after ether was evaporated. The obtained essential oil had the same odor as original wasabi. Lactobacillus plantarum was incubated at 30°C in a medium containing 200, 400, and 600 ppm of the essential oil, respectively. The lag phase in medium with 200 and 400 ppm was 24 and 39 hr and after that times the bacteria started to grow. However, L. plantarum in a medium with 600 ppm was inhibited to grow up to 48 hr and inhibition percentage of the 600 ppm medium continuously increased with time.

Background : In recent years gonorrhoea has been panendemic and remains one of the most common Sexually Transmitted Diseases in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Method : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria Gonorrhoeae(PPNG), Ive have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1994, 168 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 109 (64,9% ) were PPNG. Conclustion : Our results suggests that the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is still increasing.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Purpose</B></P> <P>Aging changes the balance of sex hormones and causes endothelial dysfunction in the penis, both of which are important determinants of erectile dysfunction (ED). The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether exercise training could protect against erectile dysfunction by increasing serum testosterone and penile eNOS levels in aging rats.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>A total of 14 young (2-month-old) and 14 middle-aged (18-month-old) Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to either untrained control (young control, [YC], middle-aged control, [MC]) or endurance exercise-trained (young exercise, [YE], middle-aged exercise, [ME]) groups with seven rats per group. The exercise groups trained with treadmill running for 6 weeks. Body composition parameters (body weight, heart mass, liver mass, and testicular mass), serum sex hormone levels (testosterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and prolactin), endothelial function-related parameters in the penis (endothelial nitric oxide synthase [eNOS], CD31, alpha smooth muscle actin [α-SMA]), and maximal intracavernous pressure measure (ICP) and total ICP were analyzed in middle-aged rats.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>The middle-aged groups showed increased body weight, as compared with the young groups, but exercise training attenuated the aging-induced increase in body weight. The middle-aged groups had lower testicular mass compared with the young groups, but exercise training attenuated aging-induced decreases in testicular mass. Exercise training increased serum testosterone levels in both the young and middle-aged groups. However, there were no changes in the levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and prolactin among the groups. MC group showed decreased protein levels of p-eNOS, as compared with the YC group. However, exercise training protected against aging-induced decrease in eNOS and p-eNOS protein levels in the penis. Interestingly, exercise training also increased protein levels of α-SMA and maximal ICP in the middle-aged group.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Exercise training has beneficial effects on erectile function in aged rats through increased testosterone production from the testis and strengthening of the cavernous endothelium with activation of eNOS. Therefore, exercise training may be a therapeutic modality for improving erectile dysfunction associated with aging.</P>

Ursolic acid (UA) is a natural triterpene compound found in various fruits and vegetables. There is a growing interest in UA because of its beneficial effects, which include anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-apoptotic, and anti-carcinogenic effects. It exerts these effects in various tissues and organs: by suppressing nuclear factor-kappa B signaling in cancer cells, improving insulin signaling in adipose tissues, reducing the expression of markers of cardiac damage in the heart, decreasing inflammation and increasing the level of anti-oxidants in the brain, reducing apoptotic signaling and the level of oxidants in the liver, and reducing atrophy and increasing the expression levels of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase and irisin in skeletal muscles. Moreover, UA can be used as an alternative medicine for the treatment and prevention of cancer, obesity/diabetes, cardiovascular disease, brain disease, liver disease, and muscle wasting (sarcopenia). In this review, we have summarized recent data on the beneficial effects and possible uses of UA in health and disease managements.
Yoga Training Improves Metabolic Parameters in Obese Boys

Yoga has been known to have stimulatory or inhibitory effects on the metabolic parameters and to be uncomplicated therapy for obesity. The purpose of the present study was to test the effect of an 8-week of yoga-asana training on body composition, lipid profile, and insulin resistance (IR) in obese adolescent boys. Twenty volunteers with body mass index (BMI) greater than the 95th percentile were randomly assigned to yoga (age $14.7{\pm}0.5$ years, n=10) and control groups (age $14.6{\pm}1.0$ years, n=10). The yoga group performed exercises three times per week at 40~60% of heart-rate reserve (HRR) for 8 weeks. IR was determined with the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). After yoga training, body weight, BMI, fat mass (FM), and body fat % (BF %) were significantly decreased, and fat-free mass and basal metabolic rate were significantly increased than baseline values. FM and BF % were significantly improved in the yoga group compared with the control group (p<0.05). Total cholesterol (TC) was significantly decreased in the yoga group (p<0.01). HDL-cholesterol was decreased in both groups (p<0.05). No significant changes were observed between or within groups for triglycerides, LDL-cholesterol, glucose, insulin, and HOMA-IR. Our findings show that an 8-week of yoga training improves body composition and TC levels in obese adolescent boys, suggesting that yoga training may be effective in controlling some metabolic syndrome factors in obese adolescent boys.
Voluntary stand-up physical activity enhances endurance exercise capacity in rats

Involuntary physical activity induced by the avoidance of electrical shock leads to improved endurance exercise capacity in animals. However, it remains unknown whether voluntary stand-up physical activity (SPA) without forced simulating factors improves endurance exercise capacity in animals. We examined the effects of SPA on body weight, cardiac function, and endurance exercise capacity for 12 weeks. Twelve male Sprague-Dawley rats (aged 8 weeks, n=6 per group) were randomly assigned to a control group (CON) or a voluntary SPA group. The rats were induced to perform voluntary SPA (lifting a load equal to their body weight), while the food height (18.0 cm) in cages was increased progressively by 3.5 every 4 weeks until it reached 28.5 cm for 12 weeks. The SPA group showed a lower body weight compared to the CON group, but voluntary SPA did not affect the skeletal muscle and heart weights, food intake, and echocardiography results. Although the SPA group showed higher grip strength, running time, and distance compared to the CON group, the level of irisin, corticosterone, genetic expression of mitochondrial biogenesis, and nuclei numbers were not affected. These findings show that voluntary SPA without any forced stimuli in rats can effectively reduce body weight and enhance endurance exercise capacity, suggesting that it may be an important alternative strategy to enhance endurance exercise capacity.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) and its potent agonists have been widely studied in pancreatic islet β‐cells. However, GLP‐1 receptors are present in many extrapancreatic tissues including macrophages, and thus GLP‐1 may have diverse actions in these tissues and cells. Therefore, we examined the mechanism by which exendin‐4 (EX‐4), a potent GLP‐1 receptor agonist, inhibits lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced iNOS expression in Raw264.7 macrophage cells. EX‐4 significantly inhibited LPS‐induced iNOS protein expression and nitrite production. However, Northern blot and promoter analyses demonstrated that EX‐4 did not inhibit LPS‐induced iNOS mRNA expression and iNOS promoter activity. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) showed that EX‐4 did not alter the binding activity of NF‐κB to the iNOS promoter. Consistent with the result of EMSA, LPS‐induced IκBα phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of p65 were not inhibited by EX‐4. Also, actinomycin D chase study and the promoter assay using the construct containing 3′‐untranslated region of iNOS showed that EX‐4 did not affect iNOS mRNA stability. Meanwhile, cycloheximide chase study demonstrated that EX‐4 significantly accelerated iNOS protein degradation. The EX‐4 inhibition of LPS‐induced iNOS protein was significantly reversed by adenylate cyclase inhibitors (MDL‐12330A and SQ 22536), a PKA inhibitor (H‐89) and PKAα gene silencing. These findings suggest that EX‐4 inhibited LPS‐induced iNOS expression at protein level, but not at transcriptional mechanism of iNOS gene and this inhibitory effect of EX‐4 was mainly dependent on cAMP/PKA system. 반도체공정에서 영상처리를 사용한 바코드 문자 인식에 관한 연구

반도체 공정에서 Track In/Out 판단을 위해서 바코드와 RFID(Radio-Frequency IDentification)가 주로 사용되고 있다. 현재 알려진 바코드 인식률은 약 80%로써 재고 유실이 여전히 존재하며 정확성과 신뢰성을 담보하지 못하고 있는 현실이다. 이 연구에서는 20% 정도의 인식되지 않은 부분을 보완하기 위해 바코드를 영상 처리하고 그 내부에 있는 문자들을 인식하는 프로그램을 개발한다. 해당 공정에서 바코드가 제대로 인식이 안 된 경우에는 인식된 문자들을 참고함으로써 공정의 전체 과정을 파악하고 트랙킹할 수 있다. 바코드의 문자 인식을 생산 공정에 맞추어 실시간에 수향하여 필요시 활용함으로써 공정의 정확성과 생산성을 향상에 기여하고자 한다.
