Background and Objectives : Cigarette smoking is a major factor and the most modifiable risk factor for atherosclerosis. Endothelial dysfunction is an early event in atherosclerosis, before the structural change of the systemic arteries. We hypothesized that endothelial dysfunction might be present in the systemic arteries of young adult smokers and that this might be dose-dependent phenomenon. Therefore, we try to certify that smoking is associated with endothelial dysfunction in healthy young adults without other risk factor of atherosclerosis. Subjects and Methods : we studied noninvasively 29 subjects aged 3 to 4 decades without other risk factor of atherosclerosis, they were composed of the two groups, current smokers(n=15) and nonsmokers(n=14). Smoking history varied from 3 to 20 pack years. Using high-resolution ultrasound, vessel diameter and mean flow rate were measured at rest, during reactive hyperemia(with flow-mediated endothelium-dependent dilation), and after sublingual nitroglycerin(NG-induced endothelium-independent vasodilation). Result : Flow mediated endothelium dependent dilation was observed in the control subjects (9.4±3.44%) but was impaired in the smokers(5.8±2.51%)(p=0.004). NG-induced endothelium independent dilation is no difference in all subjects. Conclusion : Cigarette smoking is associated with endothelial dysfunction in healthy young adults.

Effects of hydrogen plasma treatment on SnO2:F substrates for amorphous Si thin film solar cells

We investigated the effects of hydrogen plasma treatment on the physical and electrical properties of fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) films used for amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin film solar cells. A slight increase in carrier concentration by the hydrogen doping effect was observed for the FTO film exposed to the hydrogen plasma for 5 min. For further exposure to the plasma, the chemical reduction became prominent and resulted in deterioration of the electrical and optical properties of the film. XPS analysis revealed that the chemical reduction of SnO2 to Sn metallic state occurs on the surface region. It was found that the defects formed by hydrogen plasma act as recombination centers at the interface between FTO electrode and p-layer of a-Si solar cells. This phenomenon resulted in the deterioration of the cell performance. The averaged conversion efficiency (6.82%) of the cells on pristine FTO hydrogen substrate was decreased to 5.81% for the cells on FTO treated for 5 min, which is mainly attributed to the decrease in short-circuit current density.

생체분해성 고분자를 이용한 사시수술용 제형개발 및 효용성에 대한 연구

A new device, muscle clamping system was developed to facilitate exact quatifying technique A strabismus surgery, and reduce the risk of complications. The device is composed of a lower fixing body with three jaws and an upper supporting body. They are used to clip an extraocular muscle and fix it to the sclera with a single bite. Superior rectus recession on 16 rabbit eyes were performed with this new device. Conjunctival injection, muscle adhesion strength, and light microscopic findings were examined at 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks postoperatively. The Conjunctival injection were minimal, adhesion power ranged from 420 to 600 gram gravity, which is sufficient in withstand the normal pull of human extraocular muscle. In microscopic exam, some Inflammatory cells and fibrosis were found. The new device was technically easy, fast, and accurate, so it may be useful in stabismus surgery.

생체분해성 안과제형의 안구내흡수정도와 안독성

An improved retinal tack can be used to fix the retina in complicated retinal detachment and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. We used the retinal tack made by biodegradable polyglycolic acid, polylactic acid and copolymers. The tacks with polyglycolic acid were placed in the retina the right eyes of 10 rabbits as group 1, with polylactic-polyglycolic acid copolymers as group 2 in each left eyes. We examined the absorption rates and degree of intraocular inflammation at 1 day, 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks and compared both eyes. The tacks were absorbed with time in both eyes, but more rapid in copolymers. And there was no inflammation in both eyes. Now, this study will be a base on the drug delivery system in intraocular pharmacological and surgical management.

β-mercaptoethanol, hyaluronic acid, EGF가 돼지난포란의 체외수정과 체외발생에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

The study was carried out to evaluate the effects of β-mercaptoethanol(β-ME), hyaluronic acid(HA) and epidemal growth factor(EGF) supplemented to the TCM-199 culture media on in vitro fertilization and in vitro developmental rates of porcine oocytes. The porcine follicular oocytes and embryos were cultured in TCM-199 media containing hormones, β-ME(10, 50, 100 μM), HA (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 ㎎/㎖), EGF(5,8,10%) and PSA(10%) for 40-48 hrs and 8-9 days in a incubator with 5% CO_2 in air at 38.5℃. In vitro developmental rates were defined as development rate on in vitro culture or FDA-test. The results are summarized as follows ; 1. The in vitro feertilization and in vitro developmental rates of porcine oocytes cultured in TCM-199 media supplemented with 10, 50, 100 μM β-ME were 85/113(75.22%), 89/111(80.18%), 92/108(85.19%) and 28/113(24.78%), 36/111(32.43%), 30/108(27.78%), respectively. 2. The in vitro feertilization and in vitro developmental rates of porcine oocytes cultured in TCM-199 media supplemented with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 ㎎/㎖ HA were 80/103(77.67%), 84/100(84.00%), 82/105(78.09%) and 27/103(26.21%), 35/100(35.00%), 30/105(28.57%), respectively. 3. The in vitro feertilization and in vitro developmental rates of porcine oocytes cultured in TCM-199 media supplemented with 5, 8, 10% EGF were 79/101(78.22%), 86/105(81.90%), 85/103 (82.52%) and 23/101(22.77%), 30/105(28.57%), 32/103(31.07%), respectively. 4. The in vitro feertilization and in vitro developmental rates of porcine oocytes cultured in TCM-199 media supplemented with 10% PSA and 50 u β-ME, 1.0 ㎎/㎖ HA, 8% EGF were 73/85(85.88), 70/80(87.50%), 71/82(86.59%) and 29/85(34.12%), 30/80(37.50%), 25/82(30.49%), respectively. The in vitro fertilization and developmental rates were significantly higher than those of non-supplemented PSA and β-ME, HA, EGF.

Rat의 복강내에 투여한 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid 제형이 장기에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

For more effective intraperitoneal chemotherapy, the authers made 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid composite disks(FU-PGA disks) with 5-fluorouracil and polyglycolic acid, a biodegradable polymer. We inserted the FU-PGA disk into the peritoneal cavites of Sprague-Dawley male rats, the control and three experimental groups; one FU-PGA disk insert group(300mg/kg), two FU-PGA disk insert group(600mg/kg), and three FU-PGA disk insert group(900mg/kg). The control group received a similar number of PGA disk inserts. A pharmacokinetic study was performed to measure the 5-fluorouracil concentration in the peritoneal fluid, blood, and tissues(liver, kidney and heart) at 24 hours, 72hours and 168 hours after insertion of the FU-PGA disk. Light and electron microscopic studies were done. The results were as follows: 1) The number of white blood cells and platelets decreased after FU-PGA insertion. The degree was proportional to the duration and amounts inserted. The change in the number of red blood cells varied slightly. 2) Light microscopically, slight changes were noted at 168 hours in the 3 disk insert group (900mg/kg). Mild fatty change and hepatocyte degeneration around the central veins of the liver were noted, with vacuolar degeneration in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney. 3) Electron microscopically,the liver showed focal increases of lipid droplets in the hepatocytes, and irregular nuclear membrane with focal nucleolar segregation of the fibrillar and granular elements. Also the double membranous structure of the hepatocytes and Kupffer cells was widened with bleb formation. The kidney showed wide separation of the nuclear double membrane in the proximal convoluted tubular cells and mesangial cells, with vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the proximal convoluted tubular cells, at 72 hours and 168 hours in the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. The heart showed focal loss of cristae,vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. In conclusion, despite the large amont of FU-PGA inserted, the histopathological changes in the liver, kidney and heart were slight, and consonant with the very low amount of 5-fluorouracil concentrations detected in the liver, kidney and heart. The above results suggest that the FU-PGA composite can serve as a new device for releasing drugs in a controlled manner and easily targeted to intraperitoneal organs. This device can improve the efficacy of intraperitoneal chemotherapy for gastric cancer.

醱酵飼料 제조에 관한 硏究 : 3. 醱酵飼料 제조시 水分添加 水準에 따른 아미노산 組成에 관한 硏究 3. A Study on Amino acid Composition as added Moisture Levels

To estimate the essential and nonessential amino acid compositions as added moisture levels in manufacturing fermentation feedstuffs, the three kinds of experimental conditions, T1, T2, T3 were made with rice bran(90kg), leaf mold(10kg) according to added moisture 40kg, 60kg, and 80kg, respectively. In T1 and T2 cases, the contents of threonine, phenylalanine, histidine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, cystine, arginine increased significantly during fermentation, however, in T3 case, the thereonine content increased significantly after 9 hours fermentation but decreased at 12 hours fermentation(P<0.05). In T1 and T3 cases, the contents of valine, leucine and arginine increased significantly after 9 hours fermentation and decreased at 12 hours fermentation(P<0.05). Methionine increased for three hours fermentation and then did not increase in content in the T1 and the T3. In T2 case, methionine level increased gradually for whole fermentation time. In T3 case, phenylalanine, histidine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid and cystine increased significantly after 9 hours fermentation, but decreased at 12 hours fermentation(P<0.05). In T1, T2 and T3, isoleucine, lysine, serine, proline, glycine, alanine and tyrosine increased significantly during fermentation time(P<0.05).

The main aim of this paper is to examine education expectation level of students majoring culture and tourism at universities in Korea. From the previous studies, Authors drew three general factors of educations of students (knowledge/humanity/ professional way). This study identifies the relation between three education factors mentioned and education environment of students(year/ sex/ major operation system). The data were collected from survey questionnaires on six universities for 3 month from late March to early July 2001. The empirical test is focused on discovering following points; - the efficiency of actual education operation system of universities - the differences of education expectation according to different academic year/ sex - the comparison of characteristics related to education expectation of university students

육에 대한 소비자들의 욕구는 계속해서 증가하고 다양해지고 있어 이러한 욕구에 부응하기 위해 육의 풍미 및 육색을 증진시키는 것으로 알려진 고구마 사일리지를 급여한 돈육 일반성분과 물리적인 성질 및 도체특성을 조사하였다. 고구마 사일리지 제조는 고구마의 외부에 부착된 흙을 수세하여 마쇄한 후 고구마 사일리지 1은 고구마 70%, 맥강 20%, 대두박10%를 혼합하여 제조하였으며, 고구마 사일리지 2는 고구마 70%, 맥강 30%를 혼합하여 제조하였다. 일반성분으로는 수분, 조지방, 조단백, 조회분을 조사하였고, 물리적 성질로는 pH, 보수성, 연도, 육과 지방색, 관능검사, 도체특성을 조사하였다. 일반성분에서 수분은 고구마 사일리지 2 급여구가 다른 처리구에 비하여 유의적으로 높게 나타난(P<0.05) 반면에 조지방 함량과 조단백질 함량은 유의적으로 낮은 함량을 보였으며, 그리고 조회분 함량은 처리구간에 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 물리적 성질인 pH의 변화는 대조구와 고구마 사일리지 급여구간에는 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 보수성은 고구마 사일리지 급여구가 대조구보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났으며(P<0.05), 연도는 고구마 사일리지 급여구가 대조구에 비하여 좋은 결과를 보였다. 육색의 변화는 고구마 사일리지 급여로 명도가 유의적으로 낮게 나타났으며, 적색도와 황색도는 측정부위에 따라 값의 변화가 심하였다. 지방색은 고구마 사일리지 급여가 대조구에 비하여 황색도가 낮아 좋은 결과 였다. 관능검사 결과는 고구마 사일리지 급여가 대조구에 비하여 풍미는 유의적으로 높은 성적을 보였지만(P<0.05), 다즙성, 견고성, 탄력성에는 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 전체적인 관능검사 성적은 고구마 사일리지 2 급여구가 가장 좋은 성적을 얻었다. 도체특성에 미치는 변화를 측정한 결과 도체중은 유의적으로 낮게 나타났으나(P<0.05), 지육율은 차이가 없었다. 그러나 고구마 사일리지 급여로 등지방 두께가 유의적으로 감소하는 결과를 보였다(P<0.05). 본 실험 결과 보수성과 연도는 대조구에 비해 고구마 사일리지 급여구가 더 나은 결과 나타내었으며, 육색과 관능검사, 도체특성 결과도 대조구에 비교해 고구마 사일리지 급여구가 유의적으로 더 나은 것으로 나타나 고구마 사일리지를 급여시 특히 고구마 사일리지 1 급여구의 경우 돈육의 육질을 크게 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of supplementary feeding of sweet potato silage on carcass and its meat quality in finishing gilts. Two sweet potato silages containing same ingredients with different ratios(silages 1 and 2; 70 and 70% sweet potato, 20 and 30% barley bran, 10 and 0% soybean meal, respectively) were fermented for 21 days in 500 kg-capacity silos. Finishing gilts were fed a commercial finishing diet(CONT), or the same basal diet plus 0.4kg silage 1(TRT 1) or silage 2(TRT 2)/head/day beginning from 90kg of body weight, 18 heads per group, up to approximately 110kg of final weight and slaughtered. After measuring carcass traits, loin eye sections were removed and their physicochemical characteristics were analyzed. The sensory evaluation on the fresh and cooked meat was performed by the panel test and the whole experiment was repeated 3 times. Backfat thickness was reduced in TRT 1 and TRT 2 compared with CONT, but carcass weight and dressing percentage were not different between the feeding regimens. Compared with CONT, TRT 1 and TRT 2 had greater water holding capacity, tenderness, fat color and palatability scores including flavor and reduced brightness, with no difference in pH, juiciness, firmness and gumminess. Overall, TRT 2 exhibited the greatest sensory evaluation score.
