        Effects of different types of salts on the growth of lactic acid bacteria and yeasts during kimchi fermentation

        Kimchi was prepared with different types of salts: purified salt (PS), solar salt aged for 1 year (SS1), aged for 3 years (SS3), and bamboo salt (BS). Kimchi inoculated with Leuconostoc mesenteroides P30 (starter kimchi), and control kimchi (non-starter kimchi) were prepared, and stored at - $1^{\circ}C$ for 20 weeks. Titratable acidity values increased slowly and reached 0.96-1.01% (pH 3.73-3.83) at 20 weeks. Proportions of coccus-type lactic acid bacteria (LAB) among total LAB were higher in SS kimchi than PS kimchi. Among non-starter kimchi, the proportions were 44.7, 41.6, 29.7, and 32.1% for SS3, SS1, BS, and PS kimchi, respectively, at 2 weeks, and 11.5, 12.8, 6.7, and 5.8%, respectively, at 20 weeks. SS kimchi had much less yeast counts than PS kimchi. Among starter kimchi, yeasts were detected from PS kimchi at 10 weeks but not detected until 18 weeks from SS1 and BS kimchi and 20 weeks from SS3 kimchi.

      • Dynamic and coordinated single-molecular interactions at TM4SF5-enriched microdomains guide invasive behaviors in 2- and 3-dimensional environments

        <P>Membrane proteins sense extracellular cues and transduce intracellular signaling to coordinate directionality and speed during cellular migration. They are often localized to specific regions, as with lipid rafts or tetraspanin-enriched microdomains; however, the dynamic interactions of tetraspanins with diverse receptors within tetraspanin-enriched microdomains on cellular surfaces remain largely unexplored. Here, we investigated effects of tetraspan(in) TM4SF5 (transmembrane 4 L6 family member 5)-enriched microdomains (T5ERMs) on the directionality of cell migration. Physical association of TM4SF5 with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and integrin alpha 5 was visualized by live fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy and higher-resolution microscopy at the leading edge of migratory cells, presumably forming TM4SF5-enriched microdomains. Whereas TM4SF5 and EGFR colocalized at themigrating leading region more than at the rear, TM4SF5 and integrin a5 colocalized evenly throughout cells. Cholesterol depletion and disruption in TM4SF5 post-translational modifications, including N-glycosylation and palmitoylation, altered TM4SF5 interactions and cellular localization, which led to less cellular migration speed and directionality in 2-or 3-dimensional conditions. TM4SF5 controlled directional cell migration and invasion, and importantly, these TM4SF5 functions were dependent on cholesterol, TM4SF5 post-translational modifications, and EGFR and integrin alpha 5 activity.         Clinical Experience of Rigid Bronchoscopy in Single Center

        Background: The aim of this study was to analyze clinical situations requiring rigid bronchoscopy and evaluate usefulness of rigid bronchoscopic intervention in benign or malignant airway disorders. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 29 patients who underwent rigid bronchoscopy from November 2007 to February 2011 at St. Paul's Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea School of Medicine. Results: Of the 29 patients, the most frequent underlying etiology was benign stenosis of trachea (n=20). Of those 20 patients, 16 had post-intubation tracheal stenosis (PITS), 2 had tracheal stenosis due to inhalation burn (IBTS) and other 2 had obstructive fibrinous tracheal pseudomembrane (OFTP). Other etiologies were airway malignancy (n=6), endobronchial stenosis due to tuberculosis (n=2), and foreign body (n=1). For treatment, silicone stent insertion was done in 16 cases of PITS and IBTS and mechanical removal was performed in 2 cases of OFTP. In 6 cases of malignant airway obstruction mechanical debulking was performed and silicone stents were inserted additionally in 2 cases. Balloon dilatation and electrocautery were used in 2 cases of endobronchial stenosis due to tuberculosis. In all cases of stent, airway obstructive symptom improved immediately. Granulation tissue formation was the most common complication. Conclusion: Tracheal stenosis was most common indication and silicone stenting was most common procedure of rigid bronchoscopy in our center. Rigid bronchoscopic procedures, at least tracheal silicone stenting, should be included in pulmonary medicine fellowship programs because it is a very effective and indispensable method to relieve critical airway obstruction which needs training to learn.

        한국인 직무 스트레스 측정도구의 개발 및 표준화

        Background and Purposes: Over the past three decades, numerous studies performed in Korea have reported that job stress is a determinant risk factor for chronic diseases and work disability. Every society has its own culture and occupational climate particular to their organizations, and hence experiences different occupational stress. An occupational stress measurement tool therefore needs to be developed to estimate it objectively. The purpose of this study is to develop and standardize the Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS) which is considered to be unique and specific occupational stressors in Korean employees. Subjects and Methods: Data were obtained from the National Study for Development and Standardization of Occupational Stress (NSDSOS Project: 2002-2004). A total of 12,631 employees from a nationwide sample proportional to the Korean Standard Industrial Classification and the Korean Standard Occupational Classification were administered. The KOSS was developed for 2 years (2002-2004). In the first year, we collected 255 items from the most popular job stress measurement tools such as JCQ, ERI, NIOSH and OSI, and 44 items derived from the a qualitative study (depth interview). Forty-three items of KOSS, in the second year, were retained for use in the final version of the KOSS by using Delphi and factor analysis. Items were scored using conventional 1-2-3-4 Likert scores for the response categories. Results: We developed eight subscales by using factor analysis and validation process: physical environment (3 items), job demand (8 items), insufficient job control (5 items), interpersonal conflict (4 items), job insecurity (6 items), organizational system (7 items), lack of reward (6 items), and occupational climate (4 items). Together they explained 50.0% of total variance. Internal consistency alpha scores were ranged from 0.51 to 0.82. Twenty-four items of the short form of the KOSS (KOSS-SF) were also developed to estimate job stress in the work setting. Because the levels of the subscales of occupational stress were gender dependent, gender-specific standard norms for both the 43-item full version and the 24-item short form using a quartile for the subscales of KOSS were presented. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that KOSS might be an appropriate measurement scale to estimate occupational stress of Korean employees. Further and more detailed study needs to be conducted to improve the validity of this scale.

        뇌졸중 환자의 일상생활동작, 우울과 삶의 질의 관계

        본 연구는 뇌졸중 환자의 일상생활동작, 우울, 삶의 질의 관계를 파악하고자 하는 서술적 조사 연구로서 일상생활동작,’ 우울, 삶의 질 정효〉 관계가 있음을 확인하였다. 그러므로 본 안구의 주요한 결과를 중심으로 다음과 같이 고찰하였다. 뇌졸중 환자들의 일상활동 수행능력을 측정하는 도 구로 FIM, Modificd Barthel Index (MBI) 등이 많이 쓰 이고 있는데 FIM은 분야에 상관없이 표준화를 통한 높은 실용성,실행성, 이해도로· 인하여 널리 사. 하고 있는 도구로 이를 이용하여 측정한 본 연구에서는 872점으로 국내에서 만성 뇌졸중 환자와 퇴원 시 뇌졸중 환자를 대상으로 측정한 85. 9점 (Hw떼g, 2004) 과 85. 3점 (Kim, 2004) , 85. 8점 (Hong et al., 1998) 에 비하 여 약간 높아졌으나 비슷하였고, 일본 뇌졸중 환자를 대상으로 한 연구의 77. 1점보다는 높은 결과이었다 (Hama et al., 2007) . 특히 하부역역인 운동영역은 다 른 연구에 비해 높았으나 인지영역은 다른 연구에 비 해 낮은 편이었다 (Hwang, 2004二 Hama et al. , 2007, Hong 嫩 al. , 200긱 Kim, 2004) . 미국의 지역사회시설 에 있는 뇌졸중이 처음 발병한 환자들을 대상으로 재 활 후 5년간 환자를 추적한 연구에서 3년 후까지는 FIM점수가 상승하였으나 그 이후 감소되는 양상을 보였고 본 연구에서는 친단 후 경과 기간이 35.5개월 (87.2점)로 퇴원 후 3년 된 시점의 결과no도4점) 와 비교하였을 때 낮은 편이었다〈 Leonard, Mnler, Griffiths, Mcclatchie, & wherry, 1998) . 이러한 결과는 지역사 회와 집에서 간호를 받고 있는 뇌졸중 환자들에게 지속적인 재활 프로그램의 필요성이 높다는 것을 시사 한다고 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 입원을 한 직후부티 환 자에게 적절한 재활프로그램을 계획하여 시작하고 퇴원 후에는 연계되어 재활을 받을 수 있는 시설과 연결하여 환자가 지속적으로 재활을 할 수 있도록 돕는 병원과 지역사회가 공동으로 개발하고 시행하는 개활프로그램이 필요하다. 우울은 뇌졸중을 진단 받은 환자들의 급성기와 회 복기에 많이 동반되는 증상으로 본 연구에서도 CES- D를 이용하여 우울을 측정한 결과 23. 8점으로 Bak (2003) 의 연구와 비슷한 정도로 높게 측정되어 이 전의 연구결과와 같이 뇌졸중 환자의 가장 흔한 후유 증이 우울임을 다시 확인할 수 있었다 (Cho et al. 2003, `` Chon & Rhee, 1992, `` Kim, 2005, `` Kim, Seo, & Kang, 2000; singh et al. , 2000) . 그러므로 입원 시부터 신체적인 증상 뿐 아니라 우울도 같이 사정하고 우울이 진행되지 않도록 지속적인 관찰과 정서적인 간호가 뇌졸중 환자를 위한 재활프로그램에 포함이 되어야 한다. 삶의 질은 3 ``03점으로 뇌졸중 환자 l이명을 대상으로 한 chung (2000) 의 연구에서 의 3. 41점보다는 낮았으나 Kim과 Kim (2003) 의 연구의 3. 17점과는 비슷하였고 전체적으로 낮은 편이었다. 이런 결과는 최근 의학기술의 발전으로 뇌졸중으로 인한 사망률이 감소 되고 만성적인 뇌졸중 환자가 증가함에도 불구하고 재가뇌졸중 환자들에 대한 재활과 관리가 효과적으로 이루어지지 않고 있음으로 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 뇌졸중과 삶의 질은 단기간에 향상되는 것이 아니므로 개활 프로그램이 단기적인 것보다는 체계적으로 계획되고 지속적으로 수행되어져 삶의 질을 관찰하는 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다. 또한 일상생활 동작을 잘 할수록 우울점수가 낮게 나타났고 삶의 질 정도가 높게 나타났다. 그리고 우 울 정도가 심할수록 삶의 질 정도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 뇌졸중 환자들에 대한 선행연구결과들을 살 펴보면 뇌졸중은 일상생활동작 수행과 같은 신체적인 문제, 우울, 대인관계 감소 등의 사회적 문제가 발생 되고 장기적인 치료와 간호를 요구하는 질병으로서 최종적으로. 삶의 질이 저하되는 것을 보고하고 있다 (Chung, 2000; Hama et al. , 2007, `` Ingrid, Kwakkel, Bruin, & Lindeman, 2007; Khan, 2004; Kim & Kim, 2003; singh et al. , 2007) . 이러한 연구 결과는 일상생활동작, 우울, 삶의 질이 단계적으로 순환되는 관계로 서 모두 뇌졸중환자를 위한 재활프로그램 내용에 포함되어야 함을 의미한다. 이런 연구결과들을 종합하여 볼 때 뇌졸중은 환자 의 뇌손상을 일으켜 장기적인 우울과 신체적인 기능 장애를 발생시킬 가능성이 높으므로 뇌졸중 환자의 재활프로그램은 입원을 하자마자 계획하여 치료와 동 시에 시작하고 특히 우울은 뇌졸중의 만성적인 건강 문제로 재활과정을 방해할 수 있으므로 신체적인 중 재와 더불어 정서적인 중재를 포함한 포괄적인 내용 의 프로그램이 바람직하고 장기적으로 삶의 질을 평 가함이 바랑직할 것이다. 또한 뇌졸중은 장기적인 재 활이 요구되는 질환이므로 단기간의 재활 프로그램을 병원에서만 시행하는 것이 아니라 퇴원 후 병원과 지 역 사회에서 연계하여 치료적인 연속성을 가지고 유지 할 수 있는 재활 프로그램의 개발이 반드시 필요할 것이 라고 본다. Introduction: The purpose of this study was to examine relationships among stroke patients`` activities of daily living(ADL), depression, and quality of life(QOL). Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 251 stroke patients at 5 hospitals and 2 public health centers in Seoul and Kyonggi-Do. The following Questionnaires were utilized for this study: Functional independence measure(FIM) from Grange, Hamilton, and Sherwin(1986), the Korean CES-D scale from Randloff(1977), and quality of life scale from Bang, Hwal-Lan(1991). Results: Data were analyzed using the pearson correlation, t-test, and ANOVA with SPSS/WIN 12.0. The results of this study were as follow; The subjects consisted of 110 females and 141 males. The mean score of activity of daily living was 87.2(range 18-126). Age, family history, comorbidity, paralysis site, and duration after diagnosis were significantly associated with activity of daily living. The mean score of depression was 23.8(range 11-44). Age, gender, education, and job were significantly associated with depression. The mean score of quality of life scale was 3.0(range 1-5). Gender, religion, education, job, economic status, and duration after diagnosis were significantly associated with quality of life. Relationships among activity daily living, depression, and quality of life scale: The activity of daily living had a negative relationship with depression score. The activity of daily living had a positive relationship with QOL score. The depression had a negative relationship with QOL score. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is necessary to run rehabilitation programs to improve stroke patients`` ADL, depression. Also, it research for of identifying stroke patients`` quality of life according to rehabilitation program.

      • The Association between Body Mass Index and Mortality on Peritoneal Dialysis: A Prospective Cohort Study

        <B>Background</B><P> Previous studies have demonstrated that increased body mass index (BMI) is associated with decreased mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients. However, the association between BMI and survival has not been well established in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). The aim of the study was to determine the association between BMI and mortality in the PD population using the Clinical Research Center (CRC) registry for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) cohort in Korea. </P><B>Methods</B><P> Prevalent patients with PD were selected from the CRC registry for ESRD, a prospective cohort study on dialysis patients in Korea. Patients were categorized into four groups by quartiles of BMI. Cox regression analysis was used to calculate the adjusted hazard ratio (HR) of mortality with a BMI of quartile 2 (21.4 - 23.5 kg/m<SUP>2</SUP>) as the reference. </P><B>Results</B><P> A total of 900 prevalent patients undergoing PD were included. The median follow-up period was 24 months. The multivariate Cox proportional hazard model showed that the lowest quartile of BMI was associated with higher mortality (HR 3.00,95% confidence interval (CI), 1.26 - 7.15). However, the higher quartiles of BMI were not associated with mortality compared with the reference category of BMI quartile 2 (Quartile 3: HR 1.11, 95% CI, 0.43 - 2.85, Quartile 4: H R 1.64,95% CI, 0.66 - 4.06) after adjustment for clinical variables. </P><B>Conclusions</B><P> Lower BMI was a significant risk factor for death, but increased BMI was not associated with mortality in Korean PD patients. </P>

        Impact of Dialysate Calcium Concentration on Clinical Outcomes in Incident Hemodialysis Patients

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The association between dialysate calcium (DCa) concentration and mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients is controversial. In this study, we evaluated the impact of DCa concentration on mortality in incident HD patient.</P><P>Incident HD patients were selected from the Clinical Research Center registry—a prospective cohort study on dialysis patients in Korea. Patients were categorized into 3 groups according to the prescribed DCa concentration at the time of enrollment. High DCa was defined as a concentration of 3.5 mEq/L, mid-DCa as 3.0 mEq/L, and low DCa as 2.5 to 2.6 mEq/L. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality and secondary outcomes were cardiovascular or infection-related hospitalization.</P><P>A total of 1182 patients with incident HD were included. The number of patients in each group was 182 (15.4%) in high DCa group, 701 (59.3%) in the mid-DCa group, and 299 (25.3%) in the low DCa group. The median follow-up period was 16 months. The high DCa group had a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality compared with the mid-DCa group (hazard ratio [HR] 2.23, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.28–3.90, <I>P</I> = 0.005) and the low DCa group (HR 3.67, 95% CI 1.78–7.55, <I>P</I> < 0.001) after adjustment for clinical variables. The high DCa group was associated with higher risk of cardiovascular and infection-related hospitalization compared with the low DCa group (HR 3.25, 95% CI 1.53–6.89, <I>P</I> = 0.002; and HR 2.77, 95% CI 1.29–5.94, <I>P</I> = 0.009, respectively). Of these 1182 patients, 163 patients from each group were matched by propensity scores. In the propensity score matched analysis, the high DCa group had a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality compared with the mid-DCa group (HR 2.52, 95% CI 1.04–6.07, <I>P</I> = 0.04) and the low DCa group (HR 4.25, 95% CI 1.64–11.03, <I>P</I> = 0.003) after adjustment for clinical variables.</P><P>Our data showed that HD using a high DCa was a significant risk factor for all-cause mortality and cardiovascular or infection-related hospitalization in incident HD patients.</P>

        Significant Association between Toll-Like Receptor Gene Polymorphisms and Posttransplantation Diabetes Mellitus

        <P>Background: Posttransplantation diabetes mellitus (PTDM) is an important metabolic complication after renal transplantation. Activation of the innate immune system via toll-like receptors (TLRs) is implicated in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and deficiency. Although links between diabetes, dysregulated innate immune responses, and the TLR signaling pathway have been reported, no study so far has investigated their associations with PTDM. In this study, we ascertained whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TLRs are associated with PTDM in the Korea population. Methods: A total of 305 patients who received renal transplants without previously diagnosed diabetes were included. We analyzed the association between PTDM development and 6 SNPs within 2 genes of TLR2, 1 gene of TLR4, and 3 genes of TRL6. Results: Of 305 patients, PTDM developed in 51 patients (16.6%). Patients in the PTDM group were older than those in the non-PTDM group (45.56 +/- 1.28 vs. 38.28 +/- 0.71 years). Patients with PTDM had significantly higher allele frequency compared to those without PTDM for the TLR4rs1927914*T, TLR6rs3775073*A, TLR6rs3821985*C, and TLR6rs1039559*C alleles. Of the 6 SNPs, rs1927914 in the TLR4 gene and rs1039559 in the TLR6 gene were significantly associated with the development of PTDM after adjustment for age, gender, and tacrolimus usage. Conclusions: Our study demonstrates a significant association between SNPs rs1927914 in TLR4 and rs1039559 in TLR6 and PTDM in the renal transplantation recipient group. These data suggest that the activation of the innate immune system and inflammation via TLR activation might have an essential role in the pathogenesis of PTDM in renal transplantation. (C) 2016 S.         연구목적 : 본 시험의 목적은 임상시험 시작전에 연구자들을 대상으로 PANSS Workshop을 통하여 PANSS, ESRS에 대한 국내에서의 표준화 작업을 구축하고 새로운 정신병 치료제인 리스페리돈의 효과와 안정성을 재확인하여 리스페리돈 사용에 대한 적정화를 이루는데 있다. 연구방법 : 1996년 4월부터 1996년 9월까지 국내 39개 대학병원 정신과에 입원중인 혹은 증상이 악화되어 입원하는 정신분열병 환자 377명을 대상으로 다시설 개방 연구를 시행하였다. 1주일간의 약물 배설기간을 가진후, 리스페리돈을 8주간 투여하였고, 기준점, 1주, 2주, 4주, 그리고 8주후에 평가되었다. 용량은 제1일에는 리스페리돈 1mg씩 1일 2회, 제2일에는 2mg씩 1일 2회, 제3∼7일에는 3mg씩 1일 2회 투여하였다. 이후 환자의 임상상태에 따라 임의로 증량할 수 있으며, 최대 일일 16mg을 초과하지 않도록 하였다. 추체외로 증상을 조절하기 위한 투약을 허용하였다. 임상증상 및 부작용의 평가는 PANSS(Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale), CGI(Clinical Global Impression) 그리고 ESRS(Extrapyramidal Symptom Rating Scale)을 사용하였다. 연구결과 : 377명중 343명(91%)이 8주간의 연구를 완결하였다. 치료 종결시점인 8주후 PANSS 총점수가 20% 이상 호전된 경우를 약물 반응군으로 정의할때, 약물반응군은 81.3%였다. 리스페리돈에 반응하는 예측인자로는 발병연령, 이전의 입원 횟수, 유병기간이 관련 있었다. 리스페리돈은 1주후부터 PANSS양성, 음성, 및 일반정신병리 점수상에 유의한 호전을 보여 효과가 빨랐다. CGI의 경우도 기준점에 비해 1주후부터 유의한 감소를 나타내었다. ESRS의 경우, 파킨슨 평가점수는 기준점과 비교해 투여 1주, 2주, 4주후 유의하게 증가되었다가 8주후 기준점과 차이가 없었다. Dystonia 평가점수는 1주후만 유의한 증가를 보였으며, dyskinesia 평가점수는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 혈압, 맥박수의 생명징후 및 일반 혈액학 검사, 생화학적 검사, 심전도 검사에서 유의한 변화는 없었다. 결 론 : 이상의 다시설 개방 임상 연구를 통해 리스페리돈은 정신분열병 환자에서 양성증상뿐만 아니라 음성증상 및 전반적인 증상에도 효과적인 것으로 사료된다. 보다 명확한 평가를 위해서는 다른 항정신병약물과의 이중맹검 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각되며, 또한 장기적 치료에 대한 평가도 함께 이루어져야 하겠다. Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of risperidone in the treatment of Korean schizophrenic patients. Method : This multicenter open study included 377 schizophrenic patients drawn from 39 university hospitals. After a wash-out period of 1 week, the schizophrenic patients were treated with risperidone for 8 weeks and evaluated at 5 points ; at baseline, and 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks of treatment. The dose was increased from 2mg/day(1mg twice daily) to 6mg/day(3mg twice daily) during the first week and adjusted to a maximum of 16mg/day over the next 7 weeks according to the patient's clinical response. Medication to control extrapyramidal symptoms was permitted. The psychiatric and neurological status of the patients was assessed by PANSS, CGI, and ESRS scales. Results : 343(91%) of 377 patients completed the 8-week trial period. Clinical improvement, as defined by a 20% or more reduction in total PANSS score at end point, was shown by 81.3% of patients. The predictors of response to risperidone were associated older age, shorter duration of illness, fewer previous hospitalization. Risperidone had rapid onset of action ; a significant decrease of the total PANSS and three PANSS factor(positive, negative, general), and CGI was already noticed at the end of first week. For the ESRS, parkinsonism rating scores were significantly increased until week 4 comparing with baseline. Dystonia rating scores were significantly increased until week 1, and dyskinesia rating scores were not significantly changed during the study. Laboratory parameters including vital sign, EKG, hematological, and biochemical values showed no significant changes during the trial. Conclusions : This study suggests that risperidone is generally safe and effective against both the positive and negative symptoms in our group of patients.

        Negative regulation of SEK1 signaling by serum- and glucocorticoid-inducible protein kinase 1

        <P>Serum- and glucocorticoid-inducible protein kinase 1 (SGK1) has been implicated in diverse cellular activities including the promotion of cell survival. The molecular mechanism of the role of SGK1 in protection against cellular stress has remained unclear, however. We have now shown that SGK1 inhibits the activation of SEK1 and thereby negatively regulates the JNK signaling pathway. SGK1 was found to physically associate with SEK1 in intact cells. Furthermore, activated SGK1 mediated the phosphorylation of SEK1 on serine 78, resulting in inhibition of the binding of SEK1 to JNK1, as well as to MEKK1. Replacement of serine 78 of SEK1 with alanine abolished SGK1-mediated SEK1 inhibition. Oxidative stress upregulated SGK1 expression, and depletion of SGK1 by RNA interference potentiated the activation of SEK1 induced by oxidative stress in Rat2 fibroblasts. Moreover, such SGK1 depletion prevented the dexamethasone-induced increase in SGK1 expression, as well as the inhibitory effects of dexamethasone on paclitaxel-induced SEK1-JNK signaling and apoptosis in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. Together, our results suggest that SGK1 negatively regulates stress-activated signaling through inhibition of SEK1 function.</P>
