Few square planar Pt(Ⅱ) complexes hows photoluminescence due to effective radiationless decay. The luminescence assures by an intraligand excitation (^3IL)π-π^*, a metal-ligand charge transfer (^3MLCT) d-π^*, or both of the above. It seems to depend on the ligand of the complex. Pt(Ⅱ)-dithioxamide complexes show photoluminescence at room temperature and depending on the substituents of dithioxamide the absorption and luminescence bands are different. It has been reported that the bulkiness of a substituent affected the distances between Pt(Ⅱ) complex pair ions and thus π orbitals of the ligands. On the way of studying the electronic effect of the substituents in the ligands, we have synthesized N,N'-bis(2'-chlorophenyl)dithiozamide and N,N'-biphenyldithiozamide and reported ^1H-nmr and FT-IR data.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome is an acute mucocutaneous syndrome that is related to drugs and infections. Mycoplasma pneumonias infection is known as one of the causes of Stevens-Johnson syndrome in children and young adults, In Korea, Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection is rarely reported as a cause of Stevens-Johnson syndrome in adults. We report a case of Stevens-Johnson syndrome associated with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in an adult patient. A 34-years old woman was admitted to our hospital and was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia. At the time of admission, she had hemorrhagic crusts on her lips. On the 2nd day of admission, target lesions also developed on her skin. We diagnosed her disease as Stevens-Johnson syndrome associated with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia. She completely recovered from pneumonia and Stevens-Johnson syndrome after treatment with antibiotics and conservative management.

Milk of calcium bile or limy bile is a rare disorder in which the gallbladder lumen is filled with a thick, paste-like, radio-opaque material. Churchman first reported a case of curious deposition of calcium salts within the gallbladder in 1911. Volkmann first used the term Kalkmilchgalle or "milk of calcium bile" in 1926. The radio-opaque material is almost entirely composed of calcium carbonate by weight. The mechanisms by which bile turns limy and radio-opaque or the time required for this biochemical alteration to occur are not well understood. The limy bile is found mostly in a gallbladder complicated by cholecystitis. Recently, we experienced a 33 year old woman who had a milk of calcium bile in the gallbladder lumen. We report this case with a review of literature.

Streptococcus anginosus is a normal flora found in multiple body sites and belongs to the Streptococcus milleri group, It has often been associated with pyogenic infection, such as periodontitis, endocarditis, pulmonary abscess and abdominal or cerebral abscess. Also uncommonly, it can cause osteomyelitis. A 42-year-o1d man was admitted due to gastric ulcer perforation. At 12th hospital day, left humeral osteomyelitis and soft tissue abscess developed, Streptococcus anginosus grew in blood culture, He was treated with intravenous penicillin and surgical debridement of the necrotic tissue which lead to a satisfactory result. We report a rare case of Streptococcus anginosus-induced humeral osteomyelitis and soft tissue abscess.

We experienced a case of acute pyelonephritis which progressed to Escherichia coli bacteremia and later complicated by empyema in a 65-year-old female. She was successfully treated with intravenous antibiotic therapy and percutaneous drainage of empyema.
Spider Community of River basin from Korea

Spider community was surveyed at Nakdonggang River which is the longest river (525 km and 23,384 km2) located East-south part of Korea. Nakdonggang river is developing for water management and environmental conservation including restoration of river ecosystem under “The Four-River Restoration Project”. Sampling was made 3 occasions from June to August in 2009. Eight survey sites were selected from both sides of river in Andong, Sangju, Gumi and Seongju prefectures. Spiders were collected with sweep net for on the plants above ground and pitfall traps for on the ground. A total of 94 species of 71 genera in 24 families were identified from 805 collected spiders. Species richness was high in Salticidae (18 species, 19.1%), Araneidae (12 species, 12.8%), Lycosidae (9 species, 9.6%) in order. Wandering spiders (55 species occupied 58.5%, 493 individuals occupied 61.2%) were higher than webbing spiders (39 species occupied 41.5%, 493 individuals occupied 61.2%) in species richness and abundance. Dominant species were Tetragnatha praedonia (Tetragnathidae) and Neoscona adianta (Araneidae) in webbing spiders, and Anahita fauna (Ctenidae), Pirata procurvus (Lycosidae) and Gnaphosa kompirensis (Gnaphosidae) in wandering spiders with abundance. Collectively, most spiders collected from this study were water preferring spiders and showed different community structure compared to other reports from terrestrial spider fauna. Present result will bevaluable to compare the effect of development on the arthropod fauna after completion of the project.

Background: Many researchers reported that the various immune activities of red ginseng are due to acid polysaccharides. But, the exact structural characteristics of the acidic polysaccharide in red ginseng have not been fully elucidated. Therefore, we isolated the acidic polysaccharide from red ginseng and characterized the structural property of the active moiety of this polysaccharide, which contributes to the immunostimulatory activity of red ginseng. Methods: A polysaccharide (RGP-AP-I) was purified from red ginseng via size-exclusion chromatography using Sephadex G-100. Immunostimulatary activity of RGP-AP-I was investigated via anti-complementory and macrophage stimulatory activity. The structure of RGP-AP-I was characterized by HPLC, sugar composition, β-glucosyl Yariv reagent and methylation analysis. Results: Peritoneal macrophages stimulated using RGP-AP-I significantly augmented the production of various cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-6, IL-12, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. The primary structure of RGP-AP-I was elucidated by assessing its sugar composition and methylation analysis. RGP-AP-I is a 96 kDa acidic polysaccharide, and comprises nine different monosaccharides, which mainly include sugars such as rhamnose (Rha, 9.5%), galacturonic acid (GalA, 18.4%), galactose (Gal, 30.4%), and arabinose (Ara, 35.0%). RGP-AP-I exhibited an considerable reaction with the β-glucosyl Yariv reagent, revealing the presence of arabino-β-3,6-galactan. Methylation analysis indicated that RGP-AP-I comprises 21 different glycosyl linkages, such as 3-, 4-, 6- and 3,6-linked Galp; 5-linked Araf; 2,4-linked Rhap; and 4-linked GalAp, which are characteristics of rhamnogalacturonan I (RG-I). Conclusion: we assumed that the immunostimulatory activity of RGP-AP-I may be due to the RG-I structure, which comprises a main chain with a repeating linkage unit, [→2)-Rhap-(1→4)-GalAp-(1→] and three groups of side chains such as (1→5)-linked arabinan, (1→4)-linked galactan, and arabino-β-3,6-galactan, which branch at the C(O)4 positions of Rha residues in the main chain of RGP-AP-I.

<P>Directing angiogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) still remains challenging for successful tissue engineering. Without blood vessel formation, stem cell-based approaches are unable to fully regenerate damaged tissues due to limited support for cell viability and desired tissue/organ functionality. Herein, we report in situ cross-linkable gelatin−hydroxyphenyl propionic acid (GH) hydrogels that can induce pro-angiogenic profiles of MSCs via purely material-driven effects. This hydrogel directed endothelial differentiation of mouse and human patient-derived MSCs through integrin-mediated interactions at the cell-material interface, thereby promoting perfusable blood vessel formation in vitro and in vivo. The causative roles of specific integrin types (α<SUB>1</SUB> and α<SUB>v</SUB>β<SUB>3</SUB>) in directing endothelial differentiation were verified by blocking the integrin functions with chemical inhibitors. In addition, to verify the material-driven effect is not species-specific, we confirmed in vitro endothelial differentiation and in vivo blood vessel formation of patient-derived human MSCs by this hydrogel. These findings provide new insight into how purely material-driven effects can direct endothelial differentiation of MSCs, thereby promoting vascularization of scaffolds towards tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications in humans.</P>
