Osteoporosis is dearly a serious public health problem in the general population, resulting in considerable morbidity and mortality. Lifestyles of individuals with schizophrenia are at increased risk for osteoporosis and fractures for several reasons, including lack of exercise, poor nutritional status, cigarette smoking, and alcohol drinking. Some antipsychotic medications may further increase the risk of fractures by causing dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, polydipsia, and falls. But obesity could play a protective role. Of particular concern is the impact of prolactin-elevating antipsychotic medications since the elevated prolactm may have direct and indirect inhibitory effects on osteoblastic function. Preliminary surveys have indicated that schizophrenic patients also may have elevated rates of osteoporosis and pathological fractures, Dossibly resulting in part from the long-term administration of antrpsy-chotic agents-that produce hyDerprolactrnernia and secondarily lower estrogen and testosterone levels. Although the effects of antipsychotics on prolactin have been well studied, effects upon borne mineral density have received little attention despite of the important implications. Clinicians should address with their schizophrenic patients general health issues such as cigarette smoking, diet. daily activity and medication, which may contribute to osteoporosis. The magnitude of decreased bone mineral density and the ensuring increased susceptibility to osteoporosis and fractures is higher in women with schrzophrenia than in men with schizophrenia Therefore, the loss of menses in a woman treated with prolactin-elevating medications should raise the concern of hypoestrogenism and should be given a test for bone mineral density. The author reviewed osteoporosis and relative risk factors in schizophrenic patients for preyention and early treatment for osteoporosis.
용융침투법으로 제조한 알루미나-유리 복합체의 동적 피로 특성 평가

The fatigue characteristics of alumina-glass composites were evaluated by biaxial flexure test under the dynamic loading conditions. 88 specimens were tested by tested by testing 22 samples at each of four loading rates : 0.01, 0.1, 1, and mm/min. A Vickers-produced indentation crack was made at the center of the tensile surface with load of 49.0 N, and the microstructural aspects of crack propagation was investigated under statically loaded state in distilled water at 37℃. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. The fatigue parameter of alumina-glass composite containing 6 mol % yttria was n=22.2, σf0=319.6 MPa. 2. 10-year failure stress of alumina-glass composite containing 6 mol% yttria was 171.7 MPa. 3. Fracture surface of alumina-glass composite indicated the frictional interlocking of jogs having the tendency of toughening by crack deflection, rather than by crack bridging.

A 4-month-old female Great Dane dog with abdominal distention and non-productive retching after gulping of food and water yesterday was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. Depression and abdominal distention with tympany were observed on physical examination. Decreased RBC and PCV were observed on CBC. And ALKP, BUN, Glu and P were increased on a serum chemistry. Severe gas filled distention of the stomach and intestines were shown on the abdominal radiographs. Pylorus was displaced craniodorsally toward the left side and gastric body was deviated to the right side on the abdominal radiographs. Deviating cranially of the diaphragm and decreased size of the heart were observed on thoracic radiographs. Therefore this case was diagnosed as gastric dilatation-volvulus.

This study was aimed to analyze the increased forestry incomes by combining timber production and wood processing, which is one of 6th industrialization types in Korean forestry. The selected household has been engaged in forestry for two generations and they produce timber and associated wood products in their own facility. The wood products include dimension lumber, interior wood material, cutting board, and cube chips, the household also utilize logging and sawmill residues as well as seed and seedlings as by-products. Incomes and expenses that have been incurred on individual processes of the sequential timber production and wood processing were surveyed, and we analyzed the economic outcomes of entire business. The results of this study indicate that the gross income of the household is 122.3 million Korean won and the net income is 93.6 million Korean won. The net income of the household is approximately 2.8 times higher than the average net income of whole households in the forestry of Korea in 2016, which is approximately 4.3 times higher than that of households that have been particularly engaged in timber production over the country. We found that the 6th industrialization by combining the two sequential processes creates approximately 3.2 times as much added value compared to the case relying on timber production only.
人體 胃癌 및 胃炎에서의 CEA의 表現에 對한 免疫酵素 組織學的 硏究

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) isolated from adenocarcinomata of human digestive system and fetal or embryonic gut tissue is one of tumor associated antigens. In recent years, extensive studies to detect CEA in the blood as well as in the tissue of various conditions have been reported. However, characterization of CEA in the tissue of stomach cancer, common malignant tumor in Korea, has rarely been investigated. The author performed peroxidase-antiperoxidase immunohistologic study with anti-CEA antibody to determine the presence of CEA in 51 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma and 18 cases of chronic gastritis. All tissues examined were obtained with endoscopic biopsy, fixed in 10% formalin and embedded in paraffin. The findings were analysed and results obtained are as following. 1. CEA positive reaction to anti-CEA antibody was noted in 45 of the 51 cases with gastric cancer (88.2%). 2. Patterns of positive reaction to anti-CEA antibody of 45 CEA positive adenocarcinomas were focal in 9 cases (20.0%), moderate in 10 cases (22.2%) and diffuse in 26 cases (57.8%). 3. Comparing the pattern of CEA positive reaction with histologic differentiation of cancer cell, the differentiated type showed diffuse linear pattern along membrane the surface and undifferentiated type revealed focal positive pattern in the cytoplasm. 4. Of 18 cases with chronic gastritis, 8 cases of non-specific gastritis and 10 cases of intestinal metaplasia, CEA poistive reaction to anti-CEA antibody was noted in 4 cases at the lesion of intestinal metaplasia. The results obtained above suggest that presence of CEA in gastric cancer is detected 88% of cases, variable in pattern, partly depending on morphologic differentiation, and even exhibit in goblet cells in some intestinal metaplasia which is believed to be a precancerous condition of stomach cancer.

Autophagy 매개체인 LC3로 인한 Aβ 신경 독성의 증가

Autophagy is a highly regulated cellular mechanism that results in the bulk degradation process and which seems to be implicated in a variety of physiological and pathological conditions relevant to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Also, it has been suggested that the large part of autophagy is mediated by Light Chains 3 (LC3). Despite research suggesting an association between AD and autophagy, many issues remain to be addressed. To determine the relevance between autophagy and AD, we evaluated amyloid beta (Aβ) toxicity either in SH-SY5Y cells transfected with only EGFP or the cells exogeneously transfected with EGFP-LC3, mediating autophagy easily by overexpressed LC3. Without treatment of Aβ, the cell viabilities were quietly similar in both kinds of cells. The cell viability was decreased significantly in LC3 overexpressed cells. Consistently, more increased oxidative stress was detected in LC3 overexpressed cells. These results suggest that autophagy enhanced Aβ toxicity by way of increasing oxidative stress at least in part. This study will be of help to understand the role of autophagy in neurodegenerative diseases.
