The Traditional Music Band in the Ministry of National Defence (MND) was organized on July 1, 1989. A year after its foundation, the band has participated as Ch'wit'adae 吹打隊 in Presidential and VIP ceremonies. With the establishment of this music band, national ceremonies which had been accompanied only by Western Music for forty years now can depend upon the sounds of Korean Traditional Music. Furthermore, the MND Traditional Music Band has been frequently invited to the cultural and social events of national or local district governments. Over time, the functions of MND Traditional Music Band have increased externally and internally as well : it has introduced traditional arts to and encouraged an appreciation them among the officers and soldiers in barracks. Such performances and lectures by the MND Traditional Music Band have eventually assured the roots of traditional music within the military. The special performances in the presence of Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff during the reception parties for foreign military leaders in the War Memorial or Army Hall have served to improve mutual friendship and the cultural understanding, in that leaders of the military band who once had a prejudiced view, have come to realize the greater effectiveness of traditional music (over that of Western Music) when introducing Korean culture to foreign guests and have thus come to accept inclusion of traditional music in the program of military performances as a usual practice. However, even with these exceptional strides in the external relations, the situation of MND Traditional Music Band is, nonetheless, not an optimistic one, given internal management problems. Fundamental reformation of the current management system is thus required for further growth of the organization. Such human resource reformation will undoubtedly include the band leader's role and functions in its remit. The MND Band must spend a lot of military budget to achieve not only a dignified appearance and maintain the intimidating combat image of the armed forces, but also the preservation and creative development of traditional Korean music. In order to meet these interlocking goals, the position of the band leader must be modified and specialized like that of the military academy professors. Under current politic, in which the band leader is limited to secondment appointments of two or three years, he is not able to devote full-time efforts nor talent to the band, since he is distracted by supporting various unrelated military activities and operating his own home unit. By unifying the Traditional Ceremony Unit of MND Ceremonial Service Battalion and the MND Traditional Music Band, we could take a step towards solving the above personnel management problem, and also reinforce the functions of total arts such as peasants' instrumental music, mask dances, vocal music and dances. Like the formal Red Army Chorus of Russia did in past year, we could thus raise the national prestige with the traditional performing arts. (The thirteen year-old MND Traditional Music Band is currently functioning and conducting a special role unlike other National Traditional Music Orchestras that belong to national or local district governments. One of these added functions is offering a traditional cultural message to allied or friendly nations as a representative of the Korean armed forces, a function that cannot be underestimated.) Even though the Traditional Music Band belongs to the MND, it is closely related to the Korean Traditional Music Society, since it is made of the former members of Korean Traditional Music Society and using the same repertoire of the above-mentioned Society. We, the members of the Society, should therefore be consistent in showing concern and support to the health of the MND Traditional Music Band. In a like-minded manner, the MND Traditional Music Band must devote itself to the support and development of the national ceremonial process on the basis of traditional music, while carefully monitoring the current fusion of strong points from the military organization and culture.
망막아세포종 세포주(Y-79)의 Arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase 활성에 미치는 Dopamine의 영향

The arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase(AA-NAT, EC 2.3.1.87) in vertebral pineal gland and retina is rate-limiting enzyme in the pathway of biosynthesis of melatonin. AA-NAT activities are remarkably increased during night with 10-150 folds. Neurohormone melatonin is thought to play roles in a broad range of physiological functions in human, primarily through effects on the biological clock in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus, This rhythm reflects large changes in the activities of AA-NAT. So the important regulatory role of AA-NAT has made it central interest in research on melatonin biochemistry and neurochemical signal transduction. The neurotransmitter that regulates the AA-NAT activities is norepinephrine, which acts through a cyclic AMP mechanism. The effect of dopamine on AA-NAT in human retinoblastoma Y-79 cells was studied. the obtained results are as follows; AA-NAT activities in Y-79 cells were increased by cyclic AMP, and dopamine inhibited the AA-NAT activities stimulated by forskolin. The pattern of inhibition of dopamine on the AA-NAT activities in Y-79 cells was time and concentration dependent. The results suggest that dopamine participates in the regulation of the AA-NAT activities through the inhibitory mechanism in the human pineal and retinal tissues.
유용성 도료와 수용성 도료의 유해성 비교에 관한 연구 : 자동차 보수용 도료를 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to substitute water-based painting materials for the current solvent-based ones used in motor-repairing process to minimize the exposure of organic solvents to the painters. This study assessed the exposure of organic solvents to the painters using water-based and solvent-based painting materials and compared compositions, painting processes and the health hazards of the application of these alternative painting materials. The results of this study are as follows. 1. solvent-based painting materials used in motor-repairing process consist of various organic solvents, which consist primarily of toluene, xylene, ethyl benzene, ethyl methyl bezene, trimethyl bezene, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, methyl isobutyl ketone, 2-ethoxy ethanol, 2-ethoxy ethyl acetate and toluene-2.4-diisocianate and the others. These organic solvents are know as health-hazardous substances. But water-based painting materials are high-solid, low-solvent ones and consist of such two organic solvents as 2-butoxy ethanol and 2-heptanone and the others. 2. The painters using solvent-based painting materials in motor-repairing process are exposed to various organic acetate, methyl isobutyl ketone, trimethyl benzene, 2-ethoxy ethanol, and 2-ethoxy ethyl acetate. But the painters using solvent-based ones are only exposed to 2-butoxy ethanol and 2-heptanone. 3. By using water-based painting materials in stead of solvent-based painting materials containing health-hazardous organic solvents, the exposure of such organic solvents in the painter's breathing zone can be largely prevented. 4. This study recommends water-based painting materials as substitutes for the current solvent-based ones used in motor-repairing process to minimize the exposure of organic solvents to the painters.
다량의 하부위장관출혈이 병발된 Vibrio vulnificus 패혈증 1예

최근 저자들은 Vibrio vulnificus 감염에 의해 패혈증 및 이차성 피부 병변을 보인 42세의 남자 환자의 치료중 하부 위장관 출혈이 병발된 1예를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. We experienced a case of Vibrop vulnificus septicemia which showed an unusual manifestation such as hematochezia. The patient was a 42-year-old man with chronic liver disease. The blood and wound culture revealed the organism. During intensive care, he suffered from massive hematochezi for several days. Colonoscopy and abdominal CT showed findings suspicious of ischemic colitis. To our knowledge, this is the first unusual case of V.vulnificus infection which showed massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>CTRP1, a member of the CTRP superfamily, consists of an N-terminal signal peptide sequence followed by a variable region, a collagen repeat domain, and a C-terminal globular domain. CTRP1 is expressed at high levels in adipose tissues of LPS-stimulated Sprague-Dawley rats. The LPS-induced increase in CTRP1 gene expression was found to be mediated by TNF-α and IL-1β. Also, a high level of expression of CTRP1 mRNA was observed in adipose tissues of Zucker diabetic fatty (<I>fa/fa</I>) rats, compared to Sprague-Dawley rats in the absence of LPS stimulation. These findings indicate that CTRP1 expression may be associated with a low-grade chronic inflammation status in adipose tissues.</P>
The Effects of UBM and SnAgCu Solder on Drop Impact Reliability of Wafer Level Package

In this study, we investigated the effects of UBM(Under Bump Metallization) and solder composition on the drop impact reliability of wafer level packaging. Fan-in type WLP chips were prepared with different solder ball composition (Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu, and Sn1.0Ag0.5Cu) and UBM (Cu 10 ${\mu}m$, Cu 5 ${\mu}m$\Ni 3 ${\mu}m$). Drop test was performed up to 200 cycles with 1500G acceleration according to JESD22-B111. Cu\Ni UBM showed better drop performance than Cu UBM, which could be attributed to suppression of IMC formation by Ni diffusion barrier. SAC105 was slightly better than SAC305 in terms of MTTF. Drop failure occurred at board side for Cu UBM and chip side for Cu\Ni UBM, independent of solder composition. Corner and center chip position on the board were found to have the shortest drop lifetime due to stress waves generated from impact.
Nonvolatile Memory Characteristics of Double-Stacked Si Nanocluster Floating Gate Transistor

We have studied nonvolatile memory properties of MOSFETs with double-stacked Si nanoclusters in the oxide-gate stacks. We formed Si nanoclusters of a uniform size distribution on a 5 nm-thick tunneling oxide layer, followed by a 10 nm-thick intermediate oxide and a second layer of Si nanoclusters by using LPCVD system. We then investigated the memory characteristics of the MOSFET and observed that the charge retention time of a double-stacked Si nanocluster MOSFET was longer than that of a single-layer device. We also found that the double-stacked Si nanocluster MOSFET is suitable for use as a dual-bit memory.
