Lee, Boon-Giin,Lee, Young-Sook,Chung, Wan-Young The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2008 JUCT : Journal of Ubiquitous Convergence Technolog Vol.2 No.2
Representation of various types of information in an interactive virtual reality environment on mobile devices had been an attractive and valuable research in this new era. Our main focus is presenting spatial indoor location sensing information in 3D perception in mind to replace the traditional 2D floor map using handheld PDA. Designation of 3D virtual reality by Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) demonstrates its powerful ability in providing lots of useful positioning information for PDA user in real-time situation. Furthermore, by interpolating portal culling algorithm would reduce the 3D graphics rendering time on low power processing PDA significantly. By fully utilizing the CC2420 chipbased sensor nodes, wireless sensor network was established to locate user position based on Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) signals. Implementation of RSSI-based indoor tracking method is low-cost solution. However, due to signal diffraction, shadowing and multipath fading, high accuracy of sensing information is unable to obtain even though with sophisticated indoor estimation methods. Therefore, low complexity and flexible accuracy refinement algorithm was proposed to obtain high precision indoor sensing information. User indoor position is updated synchronously in virtual reality to real physical world. Moreover, assignment of magnetic compass could provide dynamic orientation information of user current viewpoint in real-time.
Extended Information Overlap Measure Algorithm for Neighbor Vehicle Localization
Punithan, Xavier,Seo, Seung-Woo The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2013 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.2 No.4
Early iterations of the existing Global Positioning System (GPS)-based or radio lateration technique-based vehicle localization algorithms suffer from flip ambiguities, forged relative location information and location information exchange overhead, which affect the subsequent iterations. This, in turn, results in an erroneous neighbor-vehicle map. This paper proposes an extended information overlap measure (EIOM) algorithm to reduce the flip error rates by exchanging the neighbor-vehicle presence features in binary information. This algorithm shifts and associates three pieces of information in the Moore neighborhood format: 1) feature information of the neighboring vehicles from a vision-based environment sensor system; 2) cardinal locations of the neighboring vehicles in its Moore neighborhood; and 3) identification information (MAC/IP addresses). Simulations were conducted for multi-lane highway scenarios to compare the proposed algorithm with the existing algorithm. The results showed that the flip error rates were reduced by up to 50%.

The PageRank algorithm is an important component for ranking Web pages in Google and other search engines. While many improvements for the original PageRank algorithm have been proposed, it is unclear which variations (and their combinations) provide the "best" ranked results. In this paper, we evaluate the ranking quality of the well-known variations of the original PageRank algorithm and their combinations. In order to do this, we first classify the variations into link-based approaches, which exploit the link structure of the Web, and knowledge-based approaches, which exploit the semantics of the Web. We then propose algorithms that combine the ranking algorithms in these two approaches and implement both the variations and their combinations. For our evaluation, we perform extensive experiments using a real data set of one million Web pages. Through the experiments, we find the algorithms that provide the best ranked results from either the variations or their combinations.

Jin, Hong-Yan,Lee, Ho-Young,Kim, Hee-Soo,Kim, Gi-Seok,Ha, Yeong-Ho The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2001 電子工學會論文誌-SP (Signal processing) Vol.38 No.1
A new content-based color image retrieval method integrating the features of the color adjacency and the gradient is proposed in this paper. As the most used feature of color image, color histogram has its own advantages that it is invariant to the changes in viewpoint and the rotation of the image etc., and the computation of the feature is simple and fast. However, it is difficult to distinguish those different images having similar color distributions using histogram-based image retrieval, because the color histogram is generated on uniformly quantized colors and the histogram itself contains no spatial information. And another shortcoming of the histogram-based image retrieval is the storage of the features is usually very large. In order to prevent the above drawbacks, the gradient that is the largest color difference of neighboring pixels is calculated in the proposed method instead of the uniform quantization which is commonly used at most histogram-based methods. And the color adjacency information which indicates major color composition feature of an image is extracted and represented as a binary form to reduce the amount of feature storage. The two features are integrated to allow the retrieval more robust to the changes of various external conditions.

Effect of electron-beam irradiation on leakage current of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs on sapphire
Oh, Seung Kyu,Song, Chi Gyun,Jang, Taehoon,Kwak, Joon Seop The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2013 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.13 No.6
This study examined the effect of electron-beam (E-beam) irradiation on the electrical properties of n-GaN, AlGaN and AlGN/GaN structures on sapphire substrates. E-beam irradiation resulted in a significant decrease in the gate leakage current of the n-GaN, AlGaN and HEMT structure from $4.0{\times}10^{-4}A$, $6.5{\times}10^{-5}A$, $2.7{\times}10^{-8}A$ to $7.7{\times}10^{-5}A$, $7.7{\times}10^{-6}A$, $4.7{\times}10^{-9}A$, respectively, at a drain voltage of -10V. Furthermore, we also investigated the effect of E-beam irradiation on the AlGaN surface in AlGaN/GaN heterostructure high electron mobility transistors(HEMTs). The results showed that the maximum drain current density of the AlGaN/GaN HEMTs with E-beam irradiation was greatly improved, when compared to that of the AlGaN/GaN HEMTs without E-beam irradiation. These results strongly suggest that E-beam irradiation is a promising method to reduce leakage current of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs on sapphire through the neutralization the trap.
Natural-Language-Based Robot Action Control Using a Hierarchical Behavior Model
Ahn, Hyunsik,Ko, Hyun-Bum The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2012 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.1 No.3
In order for humans and robots to interact in daily life, robots need to understand human speech and link it to their actions. This paper proposes a hierarchical behavior model for robot action control using natural language commands. The model, which consists of episodes, primitive actions and atomic functions, uses a sentential cognitive system that includes multiple modules for perception, action, reasoning and memory. Human speech commands are translated to sentences with a natural language processor that are syntactically parsed. A semantic parsing procedure was applied to human speech by analyzing the verbs and phrases of the sentences and linking them to the cognitive information. The cognitive system performed according to the hierarchical behavior model, which consists of episodes, primitive actions and atomic functions, which are implemented in the system. In the experiments, a possible episode, "Water the pot," was tested and its feasibility was evaluated.

We have performed reverse gate bias stress tests on AlGaN/GaN-on-Si Heterostructure FETs (HFETs). The shift of threshold voltage ($V_{th}$) and the reduction of on-current were observed from the stressed devices. These changes of the device parameters were not permanent. We investigated the temporary behavior of the stressed devices by analyzing the temperature dependence of the instabilities and TCAD simulation. As the baseline temperature of the electrical stress tests increased, the changes of the $V_{th}$ and the on-current were decreased. The on-current reduction was caused by the positive shift of the $V_{th}$ and the increased resistance of the gate-to-source and the gate-to-drain access region. Our experimental results suggest that electron-trapping effect into the shallow traps in devices is the main cause of observed instabilities.
Novel Motion and Disparity Prediction for Multi-view Video Coding
Lim, Woong,Nam, Junghak,Sim, Donggyu The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2014 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.3 No.3
This paper presents an efficient motion and disparity prediction method for multi-view video coding based on the high efficient video coding (HEVC) standard. The proposed method exploits inter-view candidates for effective prediction of the motion or disparity vector to be coded. The inter-view candidates include not only the motion vectors of adjacent views, but also global disparities across views. The motion vectors coded earlier in an adjacent view were found to be helpful in predicting the current motion vector to reduce the number of bits used in the motion vector information. In addition, the proposed disparity prediction using the global disparity method was found to be effective for interview predictions. A multi-view version based on HEVC was used to evaluate the proposed algorithm, and the proposed correspondence prediction method was implemented on a multi-view platform based on HEVC. The proposed algorithm yielded a coding gain of approximately 2.9% in a high efficiency configuration random access mode.
