Free radical scavengers or quenching agents for reactive oxygen species(ROS) present in consumable fruits, vegetables, and beverages have received considerable attention as potential antioxidants, and thus uses for treatment of several human diseases. In this study, grapevine shoot extract(GSE) containing high concentration of resveratrol and viniferine was evaluated for antioxidant potential and inhibition of pro-inflam-matory medicator production. Utilizing 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) scavenging activity and xanthine oxidase(XOD) inhibition assay the GSE showed inhibitory effects of DPPH radical scavenging and XOD activity with the IC_50 values of 34.5 ad 155㎍/ml, respectively. In addition, GSE also exhibited the inhibition of prostaglandin E_2(PGE_2) and nitric oxide(NO) production in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced mouse macrophage RAW264.7 cells with the IC_50 value of 6.4 and 14.5 ㎍/ml, respectively. This suggests that grapevine shoot extract has the potential activity as a natural antioxidant or antiinflammatory agent.

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the adaptability of light-cured glass ionomer cement to cavity walls. Class V cavities were prepared on the labial surfaces of extracted bovine incisor teeth. The cavities were restored with Fuji II as self-cured glass ionomer cement and Fuji II LC, Vitremer as light-cured glass ionomer cement. Fluorescent markers (fluoreceine and rhodamin B) were incorporated into liquid and primer for a better image of microscopic observation. Restored teeth were sectioned by longitudinal and labiolingual direction. The adaptability at the tooth-restoration interface was assessed incisally, axially and cervically by confocal scanning laser microscope.Following results were obtained ? 1. Chemical-cured glass iomomer cement restoration showed close adaptation on the all of the cavity walls, but, cracks formed within the cement. 2. Light-cured glass ionomer cement restoration was well adapted to the cavity walls, but showed crack in the cement adjacent to axial dentinal wall. 3. There was no significant difference in adaptability between two light-cured glass ionomer cement restorations.
Cisplatin 병용화학요법시 발생한 오심, 구토에 대한 Ondansetron과 Metoclopramide의 효과에 대한 비교

Inspite of possible effects for emesis following chemotherapy including cisplatin, nausea and vomiting are the most unpleasant side effects of cancer chemotherapy. None of the currently available antiemetic agents is entirely effective preventing emesis. Ondansetron, a 5-HT(5-hydroxytryptamine)_(3) receptor antagonist, has been shown to be effective antiemetic agent in the control of cisplatin induced emesis. Twenty solid tumor patients who are scheduled to receive cisplatin containing combination chemotherapy participated in a prospectively randomized study to compare the antiemetic efficacy and safety of ondansetron and metoclopramide. Ondansetron was given in dose of 8mg intravenous 30min before cisplatin and then 4hours and 8hours after cisplatin on day 1, and Ⅰ.Ⅴ. every 8hours from day 2 to 5. In the metoclopramide group, metoclopramide was given in dose of 2 ㎎/㎏ intravenous every 8hours from day 1 to 5. The control of emesis was graded in the following way : complete response, no vomiting : major response, 1-2 emetic episodes : minor response, 3-5 emetic episodes : failure, above 5 emetic episodes. Complete or major response of emesis was achieved 10 of 12(83.2%) patients receiving ondansetron and in 5 of 8(62.5%) patients receiving metoclopramide, but effectiveness was not significantly different. Ondansetron was at least as effective as metoclopramide therapy in controlling cisplatin induced emesis. Side effects in ondansetron was less than in Metoclopramide.
백혈병 치료 중 발생된 간비장 칸디다증에 대한 Caspofungin 치험 1예

Hepatosplenic candidiasis (HSC) or chronic disseminated candidiasis (CDC) is an invasive fungal infection that affects neutropenic patients. Standard empirical therapy consists of the administration of amphotericin B or fluconazole. In many cases, candidiasis is not easily eradicated, despite the adminstration of these drugs. Caspofungin, a member of the new echinocandin class of compounds, may be an effective alternative that has fungicidal against most candida species and fungistatic against aspergillus species. We report a case of hepatosplenic candidiasis developed during chemotherapy for acute myelocytic leukemia and cured with 5 weeks of caspofungin treatment.
