This study was attempted to analyse the situation of The Leisure Life of the students who attended the special night classes in attached-schools to the industries. The findings of this study were as followed: 1. living situation 1) Situation of school life. Their entering motives are that they have better self-respect and become capable men. majority of the students want to learn culture and thinking abilities. 2) Situation of job life majority of the students are working eight hours during weekdays and more tyannine hours during the vacation in their workshop. They show fatigue both mentally and physically by the monotonic working style from the sedentary work or rised work. 2. Actual condition of the leisure life majority of the students have little leisure time. Especially, the girl students has lesser than the boy students in their leisure time. Gererally they have less than three hours in weekdays and less than six hours in holidays. mojority of the students meet the friends in their leisure time. As for the actual condition of leisure activities, they enjoyed watching T.V and listening to the radio, reading and listening to music in weekdays, watching T.V and listening to the radio, reading and meeting friends in vacation, meeting friends, taking a rest and watching T.V, listening to the radio, in Sunday. The number of students demands their leisure activity fir traveling, mountain climbing and sports. In consideration of the strong influence of mass media such as television, eucational programs should be increased. 3. Conscience of the leisure activity. majority of the students feel the necessity of leisure activity because of their feeling -diversion and fatigue recovery. Their limitation of leisure activity is lack of time and money. So, in school and industries, the investment for leisure facilities should be increased, and the systemetic education for the information and methods of the leisure activity should be established.

편측성 완전 구순구개열 환자의 포괄적 치료

Cleft lip and palate is one of the congenital anomalies which need comprehensive and multidisciplinary treatment plan because 1) oral cavity is an important organ with masticatory function as a start of digestive tract, 2) anatomic symmetry and balance is esthetically important in midfacial area, and 3) it is also important to prevent psycho-social problems by adequate restoration of normal facial appearance. There are many different protocols in the treatment of cleft lip and palate, but our department has adopted and modified the Z□rich protocol, as published in the Journal of Korean Cleft Lip and Palate Association in 1998. The first challenge is feeding. Type of feeding aid ranges from simple obturators to active orthopedic appliances. In our department we use passive-type plate made up of soft and hard acrylic resin which permits normal maxillary growth. We use Millard's method to restore normal appearance and function of unilateral complete cleft lip. In consideration of both maxillary growth and phonetic problems, we first close soft palate at 18 months of age and delay the hard palate palatoplasty until 4 to 5 years of age. When soft palate is closed, posterior third of the hard palate is intentionally not denuded to allow normal maxillary growth. In hard palate palatoplasty the mucoperiosteum of affected site is not mobilized to permit residual growth of the maxilla. We have treated a patient with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate by Ajou protocol, which is a kind of modified Z□rich protocol. It is as follows: Infantile orthopedics with passive-type plate such as Hotz plate, cheiloplasty with Millard's rotation-advancement flap, and two stage palatoplasty. It is followed by orthodontic treatment and secondary osteoplasty to augment cleft alveolus, orthognathic surgery, and finally rehabilitation with conventional prosthodontic treatment or implant installation. The result was good up to now, but we are later to investigate the final result with longitudinal follow-up study according to master plan by Ajou protocol.

Prolapse of the fallopian tube into the vaginal vault after hysterectomy is a rare complication. Since most of cases may resolve before detection or remain undiagnosed, the exact incidence is still unknown. Though most common sign of tubal prolapse is tender friable tissue in vaginal cuff, with the simptoms of lower abdominal pain, dysparenunia, vaginal discharge, or postcoital spotting. The definitive diagnosis should be confirmed histologically Recently, we experienced a case of fallopian tube prolapse after abdominal hysterectomy in a 41-year-old woman and report with a brief review of the literature.

인체 자궁암 세포에서 천연 성분이 P-당단백질의 활성에 미치는 영향

Multidrug resistance (MDR) of cancer cells is, at least in part, associated with the overexpression of P-gly-coprotein (P-gp). Many studies hve demonstrated that natural compounds obtained from fruits, vegetables, teas and medicinal plants may modulate P-gp activity. The objective of the present investigation was to examine the effect of seven natural compounds on the P-gp activity in human uterine sarcoma cell line, MES-SA/DX5. Daunomycin uptake was significantly increased by biochanin A and silymarin (p<0.0001) whereas it was reduced by morin (p<0.01). The efflux of daunomycin from the cells was significantly inhibited by biochanin A, morin, cephalotaxine, berberine (p<0.05) and silymarin (p<0.0001). Biochanin A, berberine and silymarin significantly decreased IC_(50) value of daunomycin (p<0.05) while morin increased it (p<0.05). These results suggest that some natural compounds such as biochanin A and silymarin may inhibit P-gp funciton and can by developed as MDR reversing agents to improve the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs when administered concomitantly.

On the genus Rhodella, the emended orders Dixoniellales and Rhodellales with a new order Glaucosphaerales (Rhodellophyceae, Rhodophyta)

The marine unicellular red algal genus Rhodella was established in 1970 by L. V. Evans with a single species R. maculata based on nuclear projections into the pyrenoid. Porphyridium violaceum was described by P. Kornmann in 1965 and transferred to Rhodella by W. Wehrmeyer in 1971 based on plastid features and the non-parietal position of the nucleus. Molecular and fine structural evidences have now revealed that Rhodella maculata and R. violacea are one species, so R. violacea has nomenclatural priority and the correct name is Rhodella violacea (Kornmann) Wehrmeyer. The status of families within Rhodellophyceae was examined. The order Dixoniellales and family Dixoniellaceae are emended to include only Dixoniella and Neorhodella. The order Rhodellales and family Rhodellaceae are emended to include Rhodella and Corynoplastis. Glaucosphaera vacuolata Korshikov and the Glaucosphaeraceae Skuja (1954) with an emended description are transferred to the Glaucosphaerales ord. nov.

Body temperature is controlled by thermoregulatory center of the hypothalamus. We report a case of 24 years old man with central fever. He was subjected to a partial excision of pituitary tumor compressing optic chiasm four years ago. He has received hormonal therapy for panhypothyroidism after removal of pituitary tumor. And He received gamma knife operation for partially contrast-enhancing masses in suprasellar and both hypothalamic areas that is probably postoperatively remnant or recurrent tumor of pituitary adenoma. One year after gamma knife operation, he presented with a febrile syndrome of unknown origin including rhabdomyolysis. All usual investigations proved negative. We diagnosed him as central fever with rhabdomyolysis. He received medical ICU care with cooling bed, ice pack. And his symptom improved. Postoperative hyperthermia may result following resection of the pituitary tumor. When central fever is suspected taking note of past history, a quick recognition of course of fever can help reduce the using of unnecessary antibiotics and hospital stay.

[Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns of Legionella isolates in the Environment and in Patients.]

<P>BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial susceptibility of Legionella spp. has rarely been studied in Korea. Therefore, we aimed to determine the susceptibility of Legionella spp. to various antibiotics. METHODS: We assessed the antimicrobial susceptibility of 66 environmental and clinical Legionella isolates collected between January 2001 and December 2008 from Korea and Japan. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 6 antibiotics, namely, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin, clindamycin, gatifloxacin, and gemifloxacin were determined by the broth microdilution method using buffered starch yeast extract broth. RESULTS: The MIC ranges of the 6 antibiotics used against the Legionella isolates were as follows: 0.004-0.062 microg/mL (azithromycin), 0.002-0.5 microg/mL (ciprofloxacin), 0.004-0.5 microg/mL (clarithromycin), 0.12-4 microg/mL (clindamycin), 0.002-0.12 microg/mL (gatifloxacin), and 0.008-1 microg/mL (gemifloxacin). CONCLUSIONS: Legionella spp. isolates from Korea and Japan were most susceptible to gatifloxacin. Azithromycin, clarithromycin, ciprofloxacin, and gemifloxacin were also effective for treating legionellosis.</P>

Evaluation on the P-Glycoprotein Inhibitory Activity of Indonesian Medical Plants

One hundred Indonesian plant extracts were screened to investigate their effects on the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) activity in human uterine sarcoma cells, MES-SA/DX5, for the first time. Among others, four samples, Alpinia galanga (BuOH ext.), Sindora sumatrana (CHCl3 ext.), Strychnos ligustrina (CHCl3 ext.), and Zingiber cassumunar Roxb (hexane ext.), exhibited the most potent inhibition on the P-gp activity. They increased cytotoxic activity of daunomycin up to IC50 values of less than 1.41 μM, which is a value with a positive control, verapamil. Other 25 samples showed significant P-gp inhibitory activity with IC50 values between 1.4 and 4.0 μM. These prospective samples will be subjected to further laboratory phytochemical investigation to find active principles.

A Combination of Surgical and Chemical Induction in a Rabbit Model for Osteoarthritis of the Knee

BACKGROUND: Appropriate animal models of osteoarthritis (OA) are essential to develop new treatment modalities for OA. A combination of surgical and chemical induction could be appropriate for OA models. METHODS: Rabbit knee OA models developed by surgical induction (anterior cruciate ligament transection [ACLT]), chemical induction (monosodium iodoacetate [MIA] injection), and a combination of both were compared to assess compositional and structural destruction of the knee joint. Twenty-one New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups to induce OA (group 1: ACLT, n = 3; group 2: MIA [3, 6, 9 mg] injection, n = 9; group 3: ACLT+MIA [3, 6, 9 mg] injection, n = 9). RESULTS: In all groups, the Modified Mankin score was significantly higher in the osteoarthritis-induced knee than in the control. Modified Mankin scores were compared by category. The ACLT group was observed to score high in cartilage structure. In the MIA group, chondrocytes and matrix staining showed higher scores, and the ACLT+MIA group scored higher in all categories for cartilage structure, chondrocytes, matrix staining, and tidemark integrity. The ACLT+3 mg MIA showed definite OA characteristics such as cartilage surface destruction and degeneration of cartilage layers, and the ACLT+6 mg MIA and ACLT+9 mg MIA showed more prominent OA characteristics such as cartilage surface destruction, matrix disorganization, and osteophyte formation. CONCLUSION: The combination of MIA injection and ACLT could be an appropriate method for OA induction in rabbit models.
