        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nutritional status of a group of female college students in Korea. Physical measurements, biochemical measurements and a survey on food habits were conducted on the subject of Sookmyung Women's University freshmen. The results were summarized as following: 1. Mean age, height and weight of the subjects were 17.8 ± 0.85 years old, 158. 2 ± 4.86 cm and 52.3 ± 6.39 kg respectively. 2. Mean value of relative weight was 33.1, relative chest girth was 51.6, relative sitting height was 54.5 and kaup index was 2.1. In view of these results, the subjects were in good physical status. 3. Mean arm skinfold thickness value of subjects was 18.7 ± 4.69 mm, mean abdomen skinfold thickness was 22.3 ± 6.70 mm, mean % body fat was 20.4% and body density was 1.0513 ± 0.0129 g/ml. 4. There was high correlation between arm skinfold thickness and arm circumference (P ≤ 0.001, r = 0.6263), abdomen skinfold thickness, body weight, in decreasing order. There was high correlation between abdomen skinfold thickness and body weight ( p ≤ 0.001, r = 0.5863), arm circumference and height, in decreasing order. 5. Mean arm muscle circumference was 17.7 cm, mid-arm area was 45.5 cm^2, arm muscle area was 19.4 cm^2 and total body muscle mass was 13.0 kg. 6. Urinary glucose was found in 10 students in the first examination, but in the second examination, only 5 students had urinary glucose excretion. 7. Mean value of urinary sodium and potassium excretion was 119.8 mEq/g creatinine, 12.1 mEq/g creatinine, respectively and ratio of Na/K was 9.9. 8. Mean systolic blood pressure of subjects was 112.1 ± 11.8 mmHg and mean diastolic blood pressure was 72.2 ± 9.8 mmHg. 9. Correlation analysis showed that systolic and diastolic blood pressure had significant positive correlation with body weight (p ≤ 0.001, r = 0.2450), arm circumference, height, in decreasing order, but had negative correlation with sodium and potassium excretion.

      • 女高生의 着衣標準設定에 관한 調査硏究 : In Jinju Area 晋州地方을 중심으로

        內陸盆地型의 氣候 特性이 顯著한 晋州地方의 溫熱環境 變化에 따른 女高生의 適正 着衣量 標準 設定을 위한 基礎資料를 얻고져 着衣量 및 着肢의 實態를 調査한 結果 다음과 같은 結論을 얻었다. 1. 着衣量은 氣溫과 반비례하였으며 溫熱環境 變化에 따른 着衣調節은 주로 上衣, 外衣에 依存하고 있었다. 2. 着衣枚數는 上衣의 경우 室內·外 모두 8月에는 3枚, 9, 10월에는 3∼4枚, 11月에는 4枚, 12月에는 4∼5枚 着用이 가장 많았고 下衣는 室內·外 모두 8月에서 11月까지는 3枚 着用이 대부분이었으며 12月에는 3∼4枚 着用이 가장 많았다. 材質에 있어서는 全月에 걸쳐 上衣는 綿과 合成纖維가 약 70∼80%ffm 차지했고 下衣는 溫熱環境 條件에 관계없이 綿을 가장 많이 입었다. 3. 着衣量과 溫 感間의 相關關係에서는 室內·外 모두 r=0.27로 正의 相關을 보였다. 4. 着衣量과 氣溫과의 관계는 r=-0.81로 높은 負의 相關을 나타내었으며 Y=-25.21X+1368.06의 回歸式을 얻었다. 5. 被調査者 전체와 快適者의 着衣量 비교에 있어서는 高溫期인 8月에는 快適者의 着衣量이 적었고 低溫期인 12月에는 快適者의 着衣量이 더 많아 대체로 溫熱環境條件에 適應하는 着衣調節이 圓滑하지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 6. 着衣量과 保溫力과의 관계에서는 被調査者 전체의 clo値와 快適者의 clo値가 모두 高溫期인 8月에는 Winslow의 clo値보다 훨씬 높았으며 低溫期인 12月에는 훨씬 낮게 나타났다. In order to pursuit the reasonable clothing life, the clothing practice of high school girls after the abolishment of the student uniform was investigated and basic information of the proper clothing weight depending on the changes of thermal environment was obtained from 100 high school girls in the Jinju area. The results are as follows 1. The total clothing weight was inverse proportion to the air temperature. The control of the variable temperature with clothes was performed by upper and outer clothing. 2. The number of clothes worn indoor and outdoor was changed with the changes of air temperature; upper clothes were 3 kinds in August, 3-4 in September and October, 4 in November, 4-5 in December, while lower clothes were 3 in August to November and 3-4 in December. In materials of clothing put on from August to December, cotton and synthetic fiber took 70-80 percent for upper part of the body and the cotton was used exclusively for lower part with the changes of external environmental temperature. 3. The positive correlation (=0.27) was shown between clothing weight and thermal sensation in indoor and outdoor life. 4. The high negative correlation (r=-0.81) was recognized between clothing weight and outdoor temperature with regression equation of Y=-25.21X+1368.06. 5. In comparison of the clothing weight between total and comfortable subjects, the clothing weight of these was lighter than those at high temperature in August, but heavier at low temperature in December. 6. In relation of clothing weight and thermal insulation, total and comfortable subjects' clo values investigated were higher than Winslow's at the high temperature in August, but much lower at low temperature in December.

      • 여수지역의 3년간의 물가추이조사 : 일반상용식품을 중심으로 with commercial foods as the central figure

        This study was performed to investigate the trend of consumer prices of commercial foods for 3 years at some retail stores in Yosu area. The prices of most foodstuffs have been increased every year except some vegetables, fishes, shellfishes, and dried fishes. The price increment in this year was greater than 96 and 97 year. As a result of comparative prices at 3 retail stores in Yosu area, meats and vegetables in agricultural cooperative, seasonings in C-marts and fruits in S department stores were cheaper than other item in counterparts. Consumer price index of foodstuffs was estimated to be 103.9 in 1996, 107.9 in 1997 and 116.7 in 1998 in Korea. Therefore, housekeepers must thrift to reduce living expenditure to overcome IMF peridos.

        늙은 호박의 첨가비율을 달리하여 제조한 양갱의 영양성분

        This study was performed to investigate the nutritional components of yanggeng prepared with different amounts of pumpkin. Three yanggeng products were made, consisting of 87 (sample A), 90 (sample B) and 93% (sample C) pumpkin paste, with the addition of agar, sugar, corn syrup and salt. The amino acids, vitamin E, sugars and mineral contents of the yanggeng were also examined. With regard to the amino acids content of the pumpkin yanggeng those of glutamic and aspartic acid were the highest in all three products. The vitamin E concentration was significantly higher in sample C than those in samples A and B. The glucose and galactose contents were higher in sample C than in samples A and B, whereas the fructose and lactose contents were higher in sample A than in samples A and B. The calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium contents were higher in sample C than in the other two samples, whereas the zinc and manganese contents were higher in sample A than the other two samples. The potassium content of the pumpkin yanggeng was the highest of the tested minerals.

        임상 검체에서 분리된 nontyphoid Salmonella에서의 integron의 빈도와 특징

        Background : Nontyphoid Salmonella (NTS) is a leading cause of human food-borne enteritis, It has been known that integron, a naturally occurring gene capture and expression element, Plays an important role in the development and dissemination of multidrug-resistance. In this study, we investigated the prevalences and molecular characteristics of integrons in NTS clinical strains. Materials and Methods : Between 1995-96 and 2000-03, a total 261 NTS clinical strains comprising 39 serotypes were collected from clinical specimens. All strains were serotyped, and the MICs of ampicillin, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline, and trimethoprim were determined by agar dilution method. Integrons were detected by PCR amplification of integrase genes, and gene cassettes were determined by PCR and sequencing, Conjugation experiments were performed using E. coli J53 as a recipient. The clonal relationship was analyzed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresls (PFGE). Results : Of the 261 strains tested, class 1 integrons were present in 21 strains (8.0%). Class 2 and class 3 integrons were not found. The integron-positive rate was higher in S. Typhimurium (24.2% [8/33]) than in S. Enteritidis (2.0% [3/153]). Overall rates of antimicrobial resistance were higher in integron-positive strains. dhfr12-orfF-aadA2gene cassette was detected in 5 strains, aadA2in 4 strains, dhfr17-orfF-aadA5 in 2 strains, and addA1 in 1 strain. Ten integron-positive transconjugants were successfully selected. Among 8 integron-positive strains of S. Typhimurium, 7 had similar PFGE patterns. Conclusion: This study suggests that integrons are already playing a significant role in antimicrobial resistance in NTS. Continuous monitoring is needed to detect the emergence and spread of integron-mediated antimicrobial resistance.

        This study attempts to establish a concept of national identity for Social Studies Education, and to analyze and create a curriculum for national identity in the Elementary Social Studies Education Curriculum. This study tries to use both a theoretical and methodological approach to Social studies teaching methods for a national identity. I will consider the theme for the study with a theoretical background and to investigate the curriculum and ways of developing the national identity. This study may play an important role in the search for educational methods for improving democratic civic behaviour, the purpose of Elementary Social Studies.

      • 정상인과 체육인의 교합상태에 대한 정성적·정량적 비교 연구

        This study was accompolished to analyze and compare the number and area of the occlusal contact points in healthy volunteers and athletes with nonrial occlusion. For this study, 15 athletes(13 amles and 2 females with average age 20) and 21 healthy volunteers(14 mles and 7 females with average age 20.09) were selected. The visual display acquired by scanning of occlusal record in maximal intercuspation was converted into 16 gray value image. Then, using computer program(] & Lee Occlusal Analyser), the pixel which was in definite range of the gray value was recognized, and the numbers of recognized pixel were calculated to area. The results were as follows ; 1. The average numbers of total alusal contact points were 31.05 in control group, and 34.67 in athlete group. The average area of total occlusal contacts was 100.25mm2 in control group, and 127.78mrn in athlete group. 2. In control group, the average numbers of occlusal contact points were revealed in order as follows the first molar(8.48). the secondmolar(8.24), the second premolar(4.71), the lateral incisor(2.90), the first premor(2.43), the central incisor(2.19), and the canine(2.1). The least average in canine(2.1) was similar to the average(2.19) in central incisor and (2.09) in lateral incisor. In athlete group, the average numbers of occlusal contact points were revealed in order as follows ; the first molar(8.87), the secondmolar(8.47), the second premolar(5.60), the canine(3.80), the lateral incisor(3.33), the first premnolar(2.67), and the central incisor(1.93). 3. In ' control group, the average areas of occlusal contact surface were revealed in order as follows ; the first molar(39.47mm'), the second molar(37.54mu>'), the second premolar(9.541d) the first premolar(6.18mm'), canine(3.49mn?), the central incisor(2.76mn?), and the lateral incisor(1.28mm'). In athlete group, the average areas of occlusal contact surface were revealed in order as follows ; the first molar(44.l1mm'), the second molar(40.69mm'), the second premolar(16.50mm'), the first premolar(9.39mm'), the canine(5.08 mm'), the lateral incisor(3.7mni), and the central incisor(2.25mmT 4. With aging in both control and athlete group, there was a decreasing tendancy in average number of occlusal contact point, and was an increasing tendancy in average area of occlusal contact surface. In comparison at each age, both the numbers and area of occlusal contact were greater in athlete group than in control group. It was not significant in the numbers of occlusal contact points beween athlete and control group(p>0.1), but significant in the area of occlusal contact surface(p<0.05). 5. In comparision as to the kind of sports(Gymnastics : 2, Rugby : 3, Soccor : 5, Ice hocky : 5), the numbers Of occlusal contact points were the most in ice hocky, and the area of occlusal contact surface was the greatest in gymnastics. With increasing a career in athlete group, there was a decreasing tendancy in average numbers of occlusal contact points and was an increasing tendancy in average area of occlusal contact surface. By 'I'-scan analyzing, the contact numbers on the anterior teeth were greater in control group than in athlete group, and on the posterior teeth were greater in athlete group than in control group. And the results aquaired by T-scan were lesser than that aquaired by the silicone bite records. It was not significant in the posterior teeth, but significant in the anterior teeth. In T-scan records, the numbers of occlusal contact points on second molar were the greatest, but rn the silicone records, the numbers on first molar were the greatest.

        늙은 호박의 혼합비율을 달리하여 제조한 호박양갱의 품질 특성

        This study was performed to investigate the quality characteristics of yanggeng prepared with different ratios of pumpkin, Yanggeng was prepared with three concentrations of pumpkin paste, 87% (sample A), 90%(sample B), and 93%(sample C), to which was added agar, sugar, millet jelly and salt. Proximate composition, Hunter's color, texture profile analysis and sensory evaluation of yanggeng were examined. Lightness of pumpkin yanggeng increased with increasing pumpkin content. In the texture profile analysis, the hardness, cohesiveness and springiness of sample A were significantly higher than those of the other products. The gumminess of sample C was the highest, followed in order by A and B. The tendency of the pumpkin yanggeng to fracture increased with decreasing pumpkin content whereas the elasticity decreased. In the sensory evaluation, the color and taste scores of sample B were significantly higher than those of A and C. Also the overall acceptability of sample B was the highest of the three products.

      • 심한 낙타혹(Hump)의 형성을 동반한 제 2 형 막증식성 사구체신염(Dense Deposit Disease) 1예

        Dense deposit disease (DDD), known as type Ⅱ MPGN, is an uncommon form of glomerulonephritis. It is an acquired primary glomerular disease, characterised by electron microscopic evidence of a continous, dense membrane deposition replacing the lamina densa. There is associated alternative pathway complement activation and a C3 nephritic factor maybe present. Patients with dense deposit disease tend to be young at clincal onset and more commonly have persistent nephrotic syndrome, gross hematuria, and acute nephritis episode and persistent depression of the serum complement level. The prognosis of dense deposit disease is worse than that of typeⅠMPGN. We experienced a patient with dense deposit disease that presenting persistent nephrotic syndrome, gross hematuria and having subepithelial hump. It is a first report of dense deposit disease having subepithelial hump in Korea, therefore we report this case with the review of relevant literatures.

        강원지역 주민들의 두부 및 대두가공품 이용실태

        This study was carried out to investigate the frequency of use, knowledge, purchasing, and degree of perception of processed soybean by residents in the Kwangwon area of Korea. The frequency of use of soybean curd was once per 4~6 days(37.9%), once per 2~3 days(31.9%), once per ten days(25.3%) and everyday(4.9%). The degrees of knowledge about soybean curd were a little(56.0%), interest(16.5%), much(14.8%) and no interest(12.7%). 73.9% of respondents had no experience of preparation soybean curd. The frequency of places for the intake of soybean curd were home(83.5%), restaurant(8.8%), tofu restaurant(5.6%) and the others(2.1%). The frequency of places for purchasing of soybean curd were supermarket(59.5%), market(25.0%), the others(9.9%) and department store(5.6%). The degrees of perception of soybean curd types were soybean curd(100%), uncurdled soybean curd(93.7%), soft soybean curd(64.7%), bun soybean curd(15.7%) and seaweed soybean curd(5.2%). The experience on the use of processed soybean of the respondents was highest for soybean curd(98.6%), followed by bean sprouts, soybean paste, soy sauce, soybean oil, soy flour, residue of soybean curd, soy milk, in that order. The most frequent intake experiences of soybean processed products of the subjects were beanpaste pot stew(96.8%), followed by tofu pot stew, tofu and kimchi pot stew, uncurdled bean curd pot stew, bean mixed rice, grilled tofu, in that order.
