      • Effect of Ionizing Radiation on Rat Tissue: Proteomic and Biochemical Analysis

        <P>Reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated by ionizing radiation, has been implicated in its effect on living tissues. We confirmed the changes in the oxidative stress markers upon irradiation. We characterized the changes in the proteome profile in rat liver after administering irradiation, and the affected proteins were identified by MALDI-TOF-MS and ESI-MS/MS. The identified proteins represent diverse sets of proteins participating in the cellular metabolism. Our results demonstrated that proteomics analysis is a useful method for characterization of a global proteome change caused by ionizing radiation to unravel the molecular mechanisms involved in the cellular responses to ionizing radiation.</P>

        In a capacitor-discharge impulse magnetizer, a magnet is magnetized by the discharging current of capacitor The actual construction of magnetizing fixtures and discharge matching is expensive and time-consuming. Since the parameters of the impulse magnetizer have been determined and the resistance and inductance of such a magnetizing fixture can be easily computed using FEA, it is possible to predict the performance of such a fixture without actually building it. This paper describes that by mathematically modeling the capacitor-discharge impulse magnetizer fixture the problem can be solved with resonable predictability. The basic equations are presented and used to predict the magnetic-field intensity inside the fixtures. Finite-Element-Analysis is also used as part of the design process

        We, Kyung-hee University in Suwon has planned to build an open-air theater behind the building of natural science, and feel the need of creating places for cultural life and recreation. As the origin aim of this construction and landscape, university students can use this facilities and place for their daily relaxation and cultivation of emotion, and they also can utilize them for places of their meetings and events. Concerning the following completion of the UN Peace Park, our theater and the surrounding places will expectingly play important roles for the park because the open-air No-cheon theater is included in the full site of the UN Peace park. The focused elements of this basic plan are maintaining the basic plan of the UN Peace Park, forming the visually creative background, of the open-air theater cultural and recreational places, balancing and integrating human, nature, and the useful facilities.

        3차원 의료기기용 초음파진단기 프로브 개발

        Three-dimensional ultrasonic probes being applied to the medical imaging can be grouped into three depending on the scanning methods, which are a mechanical type system, a free-hand system, and 2D phased arrays system. A mechanical type scanner uses a mechanically driven transducer to acquire series of 2D plane images. By integrating these images, a 3-D medical image can be constructed. A motor driving mechanism is a conventional choice for mechanically driving a transducer assembly which picks the raw ultrasonic images up. In this paper we attempt to design a 3D ultrasonic probe which has a operating mechanism of s tilting 3-D scanning. The motion of a transducer assembly of the ultrasonic probe is analytically modelled. We propose a selection procedure for the diameter of a wire rope driving the transducer assembly and the size of torsional spring which gives an initial tension to wire ropes.

      • 압전 소자를 이용한 에너지 회수에 관한 연구

        A target of this paper is to get some elementary experimental data on the energy harvesting using a piezoelectric material. A THUNDER series piezo material (TH7-R), which has been developed by NASA engineer is selected for this study. In order to provide a mechanical energy to the piezoelectric material, a mechanical motion vibrator and its driving electronics are designed. Using a simple PWM control, the excitation frequency of vibrating mechanical motion is varied. The generated electric power as a function of the excitation frequency is monitored and analyzed. This initial experiment shows a possible energy source using a piezoelectric material for the application to low-power consumed small electronic devices such as RFID, MEMS, and etc.

      • 천연자원을 이용한 간기능 증진제 개발 연구 : Benzo(a)pyrene에 의해 유도된 간기능 장해에 미치는 천궁 추출액의 영향 The Effect of cnidii Rhizoma on Benzo(a)pyrene Induced Hepatotoxicity

        민간에서 주로 사용되는 약용식물들 중 간독성 의 발현 저해 및 간기능 보호 효과가 우수한약물을 찾아 임상적인 약효를 밝혀보고자 하는 실험과정으로 탄소화합물의 불완전 연소및 열분해에 의해 생성되는 간장해 물질인 benzo(a)pyrene으로 유도한 rats의 간독성발현에 미치는 천궁 수침액의 예방 및 치료 효과를 실험하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 천궁 수침액의 투여는 B(a)P 투여로 현저하게 증가된 혈청 및 간장의 AST, ALT,LDH, ALP 활성을 유의성 있게 감소시켰다. 2. B(a)P 투여로 증가한 혈청 total cholesterol 및 phospholipid 함량은 천궁 수침액의투여로 감소시킬 수 있었으나 그 효과는 현저하지 않았다. 3. 천궁의 투여는 B(a)P에 의한 간독성 발현을 유의성 있게 감소시켰으며 그 효과는전처리가 후처리에 비해 우수하였다. The present study was undertaken to compare the pharmacologicalactivity of crude Cnidii Rhizoma reported with the clinical uses in the orientalmedicine. Crude Cnidii Rhizoma used for the treatment of anemia, body chill,menstural irregularity and menstural pain as hematic, tonic effector, sedative,adodyne and clear extravasated blood. Therefore we tested the effects of Cnidii Rhizoma water extract on the liver-protective activities in the rats. The results obtained from liver microsomal enz-yme assay, measurement of serum and liver alanine, aspartate aminotransferaseand lipid accumulation indicated that Cnidii Rhizoma extract showed significantliver-protective activies against benzo(a)pyrene poisoning.

      • ATM-PON 시스템의 상향 매채접속제어 프로토콜 성능분석

        ATM-PON(Asynchronous Transfer Mode-Passive Optical Networks) System is an alternative of the near future optical access network. Since it has the tree topology composed of passive splitters, downstream traffic is broadcasted and upstream traffic is transmitted by medium access control(MAC). Hence upstream MAC protocol has an effect on system performance. In this study we analyzed Global-FIFO and BPP(Belt Permit Programming) protocols by simulation. We also proposed a revised Global-FIFO improving the CDV(Cell Delay Variation) problem, which is a weak point of Global-FIFO. The simulation results shows that the proposed method is better than the original one in transfer delay as well as CDV.

      • Cadmium Sulfate가 肝組織에 미치는 影響에 관한 形態學的 硏究

        Cadmium is well known toxic heavy metal which has been related with various pathologic conditions of liver, kindney, testis, cardiovascular system and central nervous system etc.. In this experiment, cadmium sulfate (1.2mg/100gm b.w.) was given intravenously into the mouse (Balb - C, b. w. 20 - 25gm) via tail vein for the study on morphological changes of liver. On the 8hours, 16hours and 24hours after administration, mice were sacrificed under ether anesthesia, liver was removed, then, a part of liver was fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin solution, processed routinely, stained with hematoxylin & eosin, and observed under light microscope. Otherwise, the remainder portion of liver tissue was prefixed in 1.5% glutaraldehyde solution, postfixed in the 1% osmium tetraoxide solution, embedded with Epon 840, and observed under transmission electron microscope(H-7000, Hitachi Co.). The results obtained were as followings ; 1. On light microscopic observation, hemorrhagic necrosis at the zone Ⅰ and zone Ⅱ with congestion of hepatic lobules were found. 2. On transmission electron microscopic observation, cisternal dilation of RER & SER, autophagic vacuoles, myelin figures, and certain electron dense materials within the hepatocytes were found. Although this observations were limited in mice, the above findings of its acute effects on liver morphology will serve morphological basis for the better understanding of toxic effects on liver after chronic exposure or multiple interactions with other toxic substances.

        다양한 파장폭의 가시광선에 의해 중합된 복합레진의 미세경도와 변연누출도

        Several ways of curing are being tried to improve material's properties and reduce marginal gap. However, all are considering about the pattern of light intensity. It was noted from the preliminary study the change of light wavelength from filter chaning may give an impact on material's property and microleakage. The object of this study was to verify the effect of filters with various wavelength width on the microhardness and microleakage of composite resin; hybrid type of DenFil and submicron hybrid type of Esthet X. Composite resins were cured using 3 kinds of filter; narrow-banded(465-475 nm), mid-banded(430-470 nm), wide-banded(400-500 nm). After the estimation of microhardness, degree of dye penetration and the maximum gap from SEM evaluation were done between 4 groups that showed no difference in microhardness value of the lower surface. The results were as follows: 1. Adequate microhardness could not be gained with a narrow-banded filter irrespective of curing time. At the upper surface. DenFil should be polymerized with middle or wide-banded filter for 20 seconds at least, while Esthet X be cured with middle or wide-banded filter for 30 seconds at least to get similar hardness value to control group. 2. There was little dye penetration in enamel margin, but all dentin margins showed much more dye penetration irrespective of curing conditions. Although there was not statistical difference, groups cured with mid-banded filter for 40 seconds and with wide-width filter for 20 seconds showed relatively less dye penetration. 3. It was revealed from the SEM examination that group cured with wide-banded filter had the smallest gap without statistical significance. Spearman's rho test showed that the correlation between the results of dye penetration and SEM examination was very low. From these results, it could be concluded that curing with wide-width filter would be better than the other techniques. even though the curing technique using mid-width filter seems to have its own unique advantage.
