        Laryngospasm can occur during induction of anesthesia, especially with inhalational anesthetics, up to 2% of all anesthetic inductions in children younger than age 9yr and is half as common in older patients. When laryngospasm occurs, it can be relieved during induction of anesthesia by deepening the anesthetic, muscle relaxation with succinylcholine, or constant positive airway pressure. A prior history of stridor increases the likelihood of postoperative complications. Stridor may be severe enough post laryngoscopy to require intubation. In this case, racemic epinephrine aerosols would be a effective therapy. We experienced a case of laryngospasm which is treated by racemic epinephrine aerosol. The patient's mother had smoking history, laryngomalacia was revealed on larnygoscopy. By the way, unfortunally, laryngospasm was developed on the diagnostic laryngoscopy. It was reluctant to treatments of epinephrine intramuscular injection or dexamethasone. We decided to use the racemic epinephrine aerosols including beta-agonist or budesonide alternatively, and his respiratory distress was resolved.

      • 칼슘제 수관살포가 참다래의 과실 품질과 저장에 미치는 영향

        This study were carried out to improve Kiwifruit quality and storage life. Three kinds of calcium compound were sprayed and calcium content of fruits, weight loss during fruit storage and fruit quality were investigated. Calcium contents within leaves and fruit were lower in Clef-non treatment than that of control. The calcium content in fruit pericarp of Kalk-H and CaCl2 was 0.04 to 0.05% higher than that of control. Fruit weight and soluble solids content at harvest was a little higher but acidity and fruit hardness was lowered. Fruit weight loss of Kalk-H and CaCl2 treatment was 1.39 to 1.53% lower than that of control during storage. The soluble solids of ripen fruit was 1.0 to 1.3% higher in all treatment and 0.8% higher in Kalk-H treatment in 120 of after storage. Fruit hardness of control fruit was higher at harvest but that of CaCl2 treatmented fruit was 0.39㎏/φ 5㎜ higher in 120 days of storage.

        동합금의 생물학적 친화성에 대한 연구

        The rise in the cost of gold was lead to use base metal alloy instead of using gold alloy which was known to be most biocompatible. But these base metal alloys are too hard and have low biocompatibility compared to gold alloy. Especially, nickel allergy & hypersensitivity came to be a problem, so use of these alloys is needed to take a careful consideration. In addition, copper alloy has been used in dentistry until now because of giving a golden color but it has lower castability and higher solubility in the oral environment compared to gold alloy. Many reports also have been made on the high toxicity of copper alloy, which revealed the inadequate dental uses of copper alloy. Recently, NPG copper alloy (Alba Dent Co., U.S.A.) have been introduced in Korea. This study was done cell toxicity test (Agar overlay test) and tarnish test in artificial saliva for 30 days and in 5% Na₂S solution for 13 days for 3 gold alloys, a Ag-Pd alloy, and NPG copper alloy. The results were as followed; 1. NPG copper alloy indicated zone index 3 and lysis index 5 in agar overlay test, which revealed high toxicity compared to gold or silver alloys. 2. In tarnish test, contrast to a small color change of gold and silver alloys, NPG copper alloy had a striking color change, 1st day in artificial saliva indicated 2 degree, 30th day in artificial saliva indicated 4 degree and in 5% Na₂S solution, extreme color change of 5 degree showed even on the 1st day.

        Locoregional recurrence is the most common type of recurrence in surgical operation of gastric adenocarcinoma, and peritoneal dissemination is one of the most difficult problems in advanced gastric adenocarcinoma treatment. Because the peritoneal cavity is the most common site of the first recurrence after gastric cancer resection, intraperitoneal chemotherapy seems a logical choice for cancer chemotherapy. In this study, Mitomycin C (MMC)-activated charcoal (CH)-alginate (ALG) beads were prepared by the mixtures of CH particles adsorbed with MMC as an anti-cancer drug and aqueous alginate solution. The alginate is recognized as biodegradable, nontoxic, and biocompatible. The release of MMC from the beads in 0.1 M Tris buffer was stable and continuous until about 1 week. The MMC-CH-ALG beads can be applied in the peritoneal cavity for intraperitoneal chemotherapy since they provide a good adhesiveness on the tissue and controlled release pattern of the drugs.

        Filler의 양에 따른 치면열구전색재의 물리적 성질에 관한 연구

        Pit and fissure sealants, widely used in preventive dentistry contains Bis-GMA, and due to least amount of filler or not at all, abrasion resistance, strength, and coefficiency of thermal expansion vary markedly with tooth structure in addition to high polymerization shrinkage. For those reasons, adding filler such as direct filling resin can improve some of the shortcoming mentioned above. However, addition of filler reduces fluidity, therefore resulting in less penetration into pits and fissures and reducing the value of pit and fissure sealants. Therefore, the author investigated an appropriate filler content which enhances the abrasion resistance and other properties while maintaining the flow of pit and fissure sealants, on increasing filler content of both base and catalyst by 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5%(wt%) and of base only by 8.4wt% which is maximum addition in manufacturing processes. Penetration coefficiency, diametral tensile strength, abrasion resistance, water absorption, and solubility tests were tested. As a results, 1. Penetration coefficiency was inversely proportional to filler content. 2. Diametral tensile strength, water absorption, and solubility were not significantly affected by filler content. 3. Abrasion resistance was proportional to filler content. 4. By adding 8.4 wt% of filler to base only, the material with overall filler content of 4.2wt% displayed satisfactory abrasion resistance and fluidity.

        The Internet of Things, the core of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is growing by incorporating various technologies into various fields. Among them, smart home systems that apply IoT technology to home environments are being actively studied. The home hub market, a means of communication for smart homes, is also developing at the same time. As the home hub market develops, security threats are also increasing accordingly. In this paper, 'Smart Home Mirror' is implemented by combining mirror and IoT technologies so that users can use them to communicate with smart home applications and other devices. To meet security issues, users in it are recognized by using face recognition technology and AES between all data communications in it is applied. The proposed device’s usefulness is approved by implementing it in smart home environments.

      • 비가림 및 망사 시설재배가 참다래의 수체생육 및 과실품질에 미치는 영향

        This studies were conducted to investigate the effects of rain shelter and netting on the tree growth, fruit set fruit quality of kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa). In rain shelter and net house, shoot falling wasn't occurred by strong wind, and fruit set, fruit weight and also fruit malformation, side flowering increased at the same time. In rain shelter house the increment temperature forced blooming date and increased shoot length, leaf number and diameter but in net house these tendencies were not observed. Relative light intensity of rain shelter house was higher than that of net house with standard of field culture (relative light intensity: 100%). Soluble solid content was higher in rain shelter house, and acid content was higher in net house. With the effect of rain sheltering the occurrence of bacterial bloom rot and canker significantly decreased in both rain shelter and net house but insect injury increased. These data showed that rain shelter house is more suitable for kiwi fruit culture.

        Eco-toxicogenomics Research with Fish

        There are some critical drawbacks in the use of biomarkers for a global assessment of the toxicological impacts many chemicals and environmental pollutants have, primarily due to an individual biomarker's specificity for an explicit chemical or toxicant. In other words, the biomarker-based assessment methodology used to analyze toxicological effects lacks a high-throughput capability. Therefore, eco-toxicogenomics, or the study of toxicogenomics with organisms present within a given environmental locale, has recently been introduced with the advent of the so-called "-omics" era, which began with the creation of microarray technologies. Fish are comparable with humans in their toxicological responses and thus data from toxicogenomic studies performed with fish could be applied, with appropriate tools and implementation protocols, to the evaluation of environments where human or animal health is of concern. At present, there have been very active research streams for developing expression sequence tag (EST) databases (DBs) for zebra fish and rainbow trout. Even though few reports involve toxicogenomic studies with fish, a few groups have successfully fabricated and used cDNA microarrays or oligo DNA chips when studying the toxicological impacts of hypoxia or some toxicants with fish. Furthermore, it is strongly believed that this technology can also be implemented with non-model fish. With the standardization of DNA microarray technologies and ample progress in bioinformatics and proteomic technologies, data obtained from DNA microarray technologies offer not only multiple biomarker assays or an analysis of gene expression profiles, but also a means of elucidating gene networking, gene-gene relations, chemical-gene interactions, and chemical-chemical relationships. Accordingly, the ultimate target of eco-toxicogenomics should be to predict and map the pathways of stress propagation within an organism and to analyze stress networking.
