We fabricated the amorphous chalcogenide As_2S_3 thin film by thermal evaporation. We also measured and analysed the optical constants of refractive index, absorption coefficient, thickness of deposited amorphous As_2S_3 thin film and optical energy gap by simple measurement of transmittance spectrum.

Fascioliasis is a zoonotic helminthiasis caused by the trematode Fasciola hepatica, which is a parasite that infects the hepatobiliary system of herbivorous animals such as cattle and sheep. Humans are accidentally infected after ingestion of the water, raw aquatic plants and raw liver of herbivorous animals that are all contaminated by metacercaria. Fascioliasis produces no symptoms in most patients, but adult Fasciola hepatica occasionally gives rise to intestinal obstruction or pancreatobiliary disease. The metacercaria can migrate along the vessels or lymphatic ducts, and they can induce disease of the liver, lung and heart. We report here on a rare case of a 68-year-old male who presented with acute abdominal pain. He was diagnosed as acute pancreatitis associated with Fasciola hepatica.

Adsorption desalination (AD) system is considered to be an environmentally-friendly and yet low-cost desalination technology that can produce two useful effects, i.e., high-grade fresh water and chilled water for cooling, using a low-temperature waste heat source. In this study, in order to design and fabricate the pilot-scale AD system that employs commercially-available silica gel as an adsorbent, its physical properties are analyzed by adsorption-desorption isotherms of nitrogen on silica gel at 77 K, followed by an evaluation of the adsorption isotherms of water vapor used as an adsorbate. Then, the performance evaluation of the pilot-scale AD system housed in Hanyang University has been experimentally carried out for a wide range of heat source temperature and feed water quality. Here, its performance is assessed in terms of specific daily water production (SDWP) and specific cooling capacity (SCC).

The availability of both potable water and air conditioning is becoming increasingly important to sustain an improved quality of life. In this regard, adsorption desalination (AD) cycle is an environmentally-friendly and yet low-cost desalination system that (i) utilizes a single low-temperature heat source, which is available in abundance from renewable energy sources or exhaust of industrial processes, and (ii) produces two useful effects, such as high-grade fresh water and cooling capacity for air conditioning. This paper presents the performances of the AD pilot plant employing silica gel and water vapor as an adsorbent–adsorbate pair, housed in the laboratory of Hanyang University. The performances of the AD cycle are extensively evaluated in terms of specific daily water production (SDWP) and specific cooling capacity (SCC) for assorted operation conditions.
