고상반응법(solid-state reaction)으로 산화물 초전도체 Bi_2-xGe_xSr_2CaCu_2O_8+8(x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5)을 제조하여 치환에 따른 산소량의 변화가 초전도 특성에 미치는 영향에 관하여 조사하였다. 이차 가압(intermediate press) 방법으로 제조한 시편은 온도 폭 △K(온도 임계온도 T_c^on과 영저항 임계온도 T_c^zero와의 차)가 상당히 감소함을 알았으며 80 K 단일상 고용한계는 Ge 치환량이 x<- 0.3영역임을 알았다. 고용한계 영역 내에서 Ge 치환량 x의 증가에 따라 격자상수 c가 감소함을 보였으며, 온셋 임계온도 T_c^on은 증가하였고, 과잉(여분) 샨소량은 감소함을 보였다. Samples with the nominal composition, Bi_2-xGe_xSr_2CaCu_2O_8+8(x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. We have studied the effect of substitution Ge for Bi and investigated the superconducting properties by changing oxygen content with Ge substitution. It was found that temperature difference, △K, between T_c^on and T_c^zero was considerably smaller in the samples prepared by the intermediate pressing method than that in the samples by the solid-state reaction method. We found the solubility limit of Ge to the 80 K single phase, the onset critical temperature T_c^on increased and excess oxygen content decreased with increase of x.

Film dosimetry as a part of patient specific intensity modulated radiation therapy quality assurance (IMRT QA) has been accomplished to develop the new optimization method of film isocenter offset and to suggest the new quantitative criteria for film doimetry after optimization. Five patients with head and neck cancers were measured in IMRT dosimetry by film method. Optimization method with the local minimum was developed to adjust the film isocenter offset error, which is the biggest part of systemic errors. The mean ratios were 5.33% and 7.09% for 5mm and 1 mm resolution dose data optimization respectively.

In this study a vision system with image processing method have been introduced to find the edge radius of curvature. It was applied to inspect the edge quality of the de burring process product with brush grinding. Size of data was found to be critical in calculating the radius of curvature. Results using laser measurement system were compared.

In part II, the process control methods of sizing machine were studied as follows. 1. It is current circumstances that most of factories cannot control the mixture of sizing agent ratlionally because of the many defects of installations. It is necessary to repair these defect as soon possible and the time and temperature control in the cooker should be more emphasized. 2. The important point of the process control of the size box is the temperature, concentration and viscosity of the sizing solution. If the process control of the high pressure squeeze roller which is one of the problems these days could be kept strictly, it can be reduced the ratio of the absorbed amount of the size, energy and it is possible to get the higher productivity of the weaving process. 3. The most important process control of the sizing machine is tension and draft control. It is easy to neglet these tension and draft control because of learning towards the emphasis of the importance of the productivity of the sizing machine. If they are neglected, it resulrts in bad effect on the yarn quality or the fabric quality. 4. About the energy saving or prevention of the environmental pollution which became a social recently, they ahould have more careful management and research and development should be more invested in the aspect of economics.

This study was carried out to obtain the basic data on salted and fermented damsel fish(Jari-Jeot), one of the important traditional marine foods in Cheju-Do. and also to seek salt lowering method for the development of a new local tourist food. The results are as follows : The best organoleptic results were obtained after 60 days' fermentation for 25.0, 12.5 and 10% of salt-added group, and around 45 days for 7.5 and 5% of salt-added group. In raw fish ingredient IMP was abundant which marked 17.7 μmole/g while in fermented fish hypoxanthine was predominant but ATP and ADP were not detected after 30 days' fermentation. Sixteen kinds of free amino acids were detected and identified in Jari-Jeot instead of 17 kinds of those in raw sample. The abundant amino acids in Jari-Jeot after 60 days' fermentation were lysine. alanine, glutamic acid, glycine and leucine, and those were consisted of approximately 60% of the total free amino acids. During fermentation the content of TMAO was decreased gradually and no TMAO was detected after 75 days' fermentation while that of TMA was increased during fermentation up to 45 days' and decreased afterwards. The fatty acid of low-salt Jari-Jeot was composed of 31.9% of saturated acids, 13.2% of monoenoic acids and 54. 9% of of polyenoic acids. While the content of EPA in polyenoic acids was 1.9%, that of DHA was 23.0%. In order to lower salt concentaration of fermented damsel fish, additon of Pediococcus halophilus culture as a starter together with 10-12.596 of salt, 4-5% of KCI, and 2% of glucose gave as good quality as traditionally made Jari-Jeot.

S-Adenosyl-L-methionine : protein-carboxyl 0-methyltransferase (EC 2.1. 1. 24, protein methylase II) was purified from bovine renal cortex approximately 6, 780-fold with a 9% yield by combination of ammonium sulfate precipitate, Sephadex G-75 chromatography, S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine-sepharose 4B chromatography and hydroxyapatite chromatography, and then its properties and physiological role were investigated. 1. The enzyme showed a pH optimum around 5.6-6. 0. It is heat labile, inactivated by heattreatment for 3 minutes at 60℃, and when stored at -20℃ in the presence of 10% glycerol, its activity has been almost stable in a month. 2. Copper ion (Cu^2+}) and zinc ion (Zn^2+) were a potent inhibitors, the activity being completely inhibited at 2 mM. The inhibition of copper and zinc ions were recovered 85%and 63% of its activity adding of 4 mM EDTA, respectively. The inhibition of copper ion was completely recovered by adding of 10 mM mercaptoethanol, but zinc ion did not almost affect. 3. The apparent Km value for S-adenosyl-L-methionine was 4 x 10^-6M. Kinetic analysis of the enzyme in the presence of 25 uM copper ion showed that the nature of the inhibition to the enzyme was noncompetitive, considering that Km was constant and Vmax was decreased, and 50uM zinc ion showed that it was uncompetitive, considering that both Km and Vmax were decreased. 4. Immunoglobulin A, histone II and histone H3 were relatively good substrates for the enzyme. 5. The enzyme activity was completely inhibited by 0.4 mM of p-hydroxymercuribenzoic acid, but all of the activity was recovered in adding 10 mM mercaptoethanol, and the molecular weight of the enzyme was 24, 000. 6. The carboxylmethylated fractions of the brush-border membrane of bovine renal cortex had molecular weight of 70,000, 67,000, 45,000, 40,000, 31,000 and 27,000 etc. (6 fractions), as determined by SDS/polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. 7. The carboxylmethylation of the brush-border membrane increased with time, S-adenosylmethionine, substrate concentration, and methylated brush-border membrane was demethylated by 50% for 10 minutes at pH 7.4. 8. D-Glucose uptake was inhibited by carboxylmethylation of brush-border membrane. These results suggest that protein methylase II may play some roles in regulating physiological function of brush-border membrane.

During a three-year period, 600 patients were admitted to the Asan Medical Center because of biliary tract diseases. Both aerobic and anaerobic cultures were performed in 313 patients with cholangitis (bile : 253, blood : 113, both : 53). Of these patients, 189 were positive(bile 159. blood 68. both 38). The most common organisms were E. coli, K pneumoniae, and P. aeruginosa in both bile(respectively, 49.7%, 20.8%, 51.5%) and blood cultures(respectively, 45.6%, 26.5%, 22.1%). Antibiotic therapy did not sterilize bile, but selectively increased the proportions of P. aeruginosa. There was no significant difference in biliary bacteriology according to the history of biliary surgery, or the presence of percutaneous biliary drainage or underlying disease. More than 95% of gram-negative organisms isolated was highly susceptible to imipenem and amikacin. P. aeruginosa was resistant to ceftazidime in 63.3% which might be associated with overuse of the drug during the study period. Further studies will be necessary in patients with cholangitis to determine whether newer antibiotics replace previous combination therapy.

The authors describe two cases of unusual intracranial metastatic adenoid cystic carcinomas. A 42-year-old woman had a right pariental epidural metastatic mass. presumed hematogenous. spread from a primary tumor in the parotid gland. In second case, a 32-year-old man had a intracranial metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma mimicking calcified psammomatous meningioma on CT scans. We present these unusual cases with a review of relevant literature and a discussion of possible pathogenesis.
