Lipomyelomeningocele is the most common malformation leading to spinal cord tethering. Nonetheless, these lesion continues to pose a challenge in patient management. The purpose of this study was to identify the clinical feature, candidate for surgical repair, and outcome of lipomyelomeningocele in young children and adults. We studied the magnetic resonance images and/or lumbar myelo-CT of lipomyelomeningocele performed between January 1987 and September 1995 at our institutions and reviewed the pertinent medical records and radiologic studies to determine clinical feature, surgical candidate, and outcomes of these patients. Of the 14 cases(11 female and 3 males) studied, the most common factor that caused these patients to seek help was the cosmetic effect of the mass on their back, followed by urinary incontinence, and weakness of lower extremities. The patients' age ranged from 2 months to 21 years(mean, 5.0 years). All the patients underwent immediate surgical management that consisted of removal of lipoma, untethering of the cord, and complete dural sac repair. Follow up for these patients ranged from 6 to 82 months(median, 54 mo). None of the patients that underwent surgical correction before the emergence of neurological deficit had ever developed neurological deficits at the end of the follow up. However a few of the patients, despite presented with neurological deficits or urinary incontinence at the time of surgery, improved significantly. In conclusion, early detection and prophylactic surgery is imperative to prevent permanent neurological deficits and urinary dysfunction.

Tracheobronchopathia osteoplastica is a rare disorder of unknown cause characterized by the projection of numerous bony or cartilaginous submucosal nodules into the tracheobronchial lumen with sparing of the posterior membranous portion of tracheobronchial tree. In the past, most of the cases were diagnosed as secondary finding at autopsy. Nowaday, the key component of the evaluation is flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy, which typically demonstrates irregular spicules of subrnucosal bone and cartilage projecting into the tracheobronchial lumen and causing various degrees of airway obstruction. A 45 years old man was visited Sunchon St. Carollo hospital due to discomfort on throat. We saw several nodules just below vocal cord via laryngoscope. The computed tomography revealed multiple small calcified nqdules on trachea and both main bronchi. Pathologic finding of bronchoscopic biopsy showed abnormal proliferation of bony and cartilagious nodules in the tracheal submucosa. These fingdings were consistent with tracheobronchopathia osteoplastica. We report here on a case of tracheobronchopathia osteoplastica with review of literature.

Arteriovenous fistula of uterus is a very rare cause of massive uterine bleeding. However, it is important to make a rapid and precise diagnosis when it does occur, because life-threatening massive vaginal bleeding may occasionally be a symptom of this disease. Uterine curettage or surgical trauma can cause vascular abnormalities, including pseudoaneurysms, acquired ateriovenous malformations, ateriovenous fistulas, and rupture of vessels. The diagnosis is made by angiography, and gray scale ultrasonography, color and duplex doppler ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging is helpful. Ultrasonography is the most commonly performed initial imaging examination for evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding. Color and duplex Doppler US is an appropriate modality for the detection and diagnosis of uterine ateriovenous malformations and for follow-up after embolization. Transcatheter embolization has replaced hysterectomy as the treatment of choice in women wish to retain thier fertility. A case of arteriovenous malformation of the uterus which was diagnosed by ultrasonography. So reported this case with a brief review of the literature.

High blood pressure causes various cardiovascular diseases and is associated with mortality. Periodic selfmonitoring and recording of blood pressure is very helpful in preventing the occurrence of secondary diseases caused by hypertension. However, existing cuff-type blood pressure monitors have many limitations. As an alternative of that, a method of estimating the blood pressure by measuring the velocity change of the blood flow using the photo plethysmography is widely known. However, photo plethysmography have a low correlation with blood flow. So, we will propose an algorithm for estimating blood pressure using the relationship between velocity change of blood flow measured by magnetic field instead of photo plethysmography and electrocardiogram. For this purpose, First, we analyzed the correlation between photo plethysmography and magneto plethysmography. the correlation between MPG and PPG was r = 0.9449. Second, we compared estimated blood pressure and measured blood pressure. In the four experiment each result was r = 0.5737, r = 0.7863, r = 0.5669, and r = 0.7445.
Asphalt Mixture for the First Asphalt Concrete Directly Fastened Track in Korea

<P>The research has been initiated to develop the asphalt mixtures which are suitable for the surface of asphalt concrete directly fastened track (ADFT) system and evaluate the performance of the asphalt mixture. Three aggregate gradations which are upper (finer), medium, and below (coarser). The nominal maximum aggregate size of asphalt mixture was 10 mm. Asphalt mixture design was conducted at 3 percent air voids using Marshall mix design method. To make impermeable asphalt mixture surface, the laboratory permeability test was conducted for asphalt mixtures of three different aggregate gradations using asphalt mixture permeability tester. Moisture susceptibility test was conducted based on AASHTO T 283. The stripping percentage of asphalt mixtures was measured using a digital camera and analyzed based on image analysis techniques. Based on the limited research results, the finer aggregate gradation is the most suitable for asphalt mixture for ADFT system with the high TSR value and the low stripping percentage and permeable coefficient. Flow number and beam fatigue tests for finer aggregate asphalt mixture were conducted to characterize the performance of asphalt mixtures containing two modified asphalt binders: STE-10 which is styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) polymer and ARMA which is Crum rubber modified asphalt. The performance tests indicate that the STE-10 shows the higher rutting life and fatigue life.</P>
Comparisons of structural behavior between level and cant area of asphalt concrete track

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study compares the behaviors of asphalt concrete level track and cant track under static and dynamic loadings. The asphalt tracks were constructed with attached and embedded gauges for measuring earth pressure, settlement of the structure, and strain at the bottom of asphalt layer. Full-scale tests were performed to simulate train movements on the rail tracks. According to the measurement results, there are certain differences in the earth pressure, settlement, and strain between level track and cant track, and between the outer and inner sides of cant track. Both level track and cant track are applicable in long-life service.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The behaviors of asphalt concrete level track and cant track were investigated. </LI> <LI> The asphalt tracks were constructed with gauge system. </LI> <LI> Full-scale tests were performed to simulate train movements on the rail tracks. </LI> <LI> There are certain differences between the outer and inner sides of cant track. </LI> <LI> Level track and cant track are applicable in long-life service. </LI> </UL> </P>
